Hi Marc, I think that the main question is : want you help someone in this list or not? In Italy we say that No one is born master... Re: [libreoffice-users] Top posting
Hi :) I did not change them but i applaud whoever did. The main argument that the bottom-poster-fanatics use in order to demand that everyone else is only allowed to bottom post is that the guidelines suggest doing so. That is clearly not working so the guidelines needed to be changed to support what the target-market of this list are more comfortable with. In my opinion people should be allowed to post as they want without being subjected to the bullying of the bottom-posters. That view seems to be supported by everyone that top-posts that has commented in this thread. Can we not accept that the main purpose of this thread is to answer people's questions and make them feel comfortable about asking questions? Clearly not. It seems the main aim of this list, according to the bottom-posters, is 1. to keep subjecting us all to this pointless argument, 2. to bully anyone that doesn't obey them 3. to make people uncomfortable about asking questions for fear of intimidation. If the guidelines now say that only top posting is acceptable then that is great because none of the top-posters are going to use those guidelines to bully people. None of the top-posters are going to claim that the guidelines are rules and not really guidelines at all. Sorry you have not had any answers from the Users List so far. Hopefully someone knows how to solve this! Good luck and regards from Tom :) Body500 wrote Hi all, I've noticed something annoying with AutoLayout objects in Impress. This is what I did: 1. create an empty presentation and edit the slide master 2. edit the height of the main AutoLayout text box (the one that usually contains the main content) 3. Make sure that the text box is not set to auto size, either under text... or under size and position 4. close master view Now if I choose a layout that displays this AutLayout area, the height of it is set to whatever I made it be and all is fine. Here's the problem. I now save this document and close it. When I open it again the AutoLayout is still the same as before I closed it, but if I change the layout the height of the AutoLayout goes back to what it was before I changed it in the master. If I now open the master view I see that indeed the master has also changed. I can change the slide master again and repeat the whole process but nothing fixes this. I've tried locking the size and position of the text box but that is ignored. I've flipped all sorts of checkboxes but haven't found a solution yet. All this is happening in LO 3.5.0 rc3 but also happened in the 3.4.5 version. I haven't tried older versions. Running win7 64-bit. Anyone else see this happen, and if so is there a fix (I'm assuming it's a feature and not a bug). [libreoffice-users] Impress dies without indications - how do I research further?
Out of a bunch of 19 PowerPoint PPT files I have the same problem with 4 of them (the other 15 works perfectly): They all open fine, look very good (much more accurate than LibO 3.3 :-) ) and I can modify them without problems. When choosing control on either a rightclick menu, or the toolbarbutton, the session crashes, not allowing you to change any of the properties. This might be the same with other types as well. A workaround to remove the border is to create a Label field first, and replace it with a text box. Good afternoon Dries Feys, Provided that I got your problem correctly try this: A text box is a control you insert in different sheets LibreO-Writer, Calc, Base etc. right-click the text box control and click 'control' the drop down list shows the text box control's properties = find 'border' click the selection arrow (at right hand) and select the border property you desire: e.g. 'no border' OK? A better way is not setting a hard formatting but using the styles. So open StyleFormatting window and set the desired font in the cell style default. The important step is indeed to save it as template and afterwards make it your default template. If you want to use document creation from right click in Windows, you need to change the common template as well. Re: [libreoffice-users] Restoring List of 'Recent Documents' [RESOLVED]
Hi :) Lol, almost none of the devs get paid. Most of those that are probably have to manage people rather than code. So, it's a PITA for them as it only stops them from working on the more fun stuff like long-runing issues or awesome new features and generally being like a rockstar. That sort of thing would only be useful for proprietary systems and even then it's unlikely the same dev would be assigned to fix it. It would be someone new that had no experience with that bit of code while the person breaking it would have been given something new to break. Ooops, was that a bit cynical? I'm outside the industry so i am only guessing. [libreoffice-users] Embedded OLE Objects in Write
Dear Collective Brains Trust, I spent about three hours yesterday creating some very nice draw documents from within write (Insert/Object/OLE Object/Create New). Now I open up the thesis this morning, and they've been replaced by large pixelated pictures of what I presume is supposed to be a plug (for the plugin?) A screenshot is available here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17999770/LOProb.png Now it's not a total nightmare. I can grit my teeth, spend the hours recreating the documents and save them as svgs (which I probably should have done in the first place). But I'd really rather not. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do about it? For reference, I'm running LO3.5 on a Mac. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Embedded OLE Objects in Write
Hi Dennis, Thanks for your help. In answer to your questions: 1. Are you making sure that the OLE object is embedded and not just linked? Are you also making sure that the option to show a thumbnail instead of the rendering of the OLE object is not selected? I'm creating the OLE objects from Insert/Object/OLE object, so I'm presuming they're embedded. I'm not quite sure where this is. If it's the one that is Libreoffice/Preferences/Writer/View/Tables and Objects, then yes. 2. Are you using more than one computer for this work? And is the original application that produces the OLE object available on each machine where you want to view the document correctly? No, I'm not. I am storing it and accessing it from Dropbox. However, as this service stores the file locally, it shouldn't affect this. 3. You might do better pasting the drawing from the application where you are creating it into the destination document, using Copy and Paste [Special...] as appropriate to select a vector-graphic insertion. I'll give that a go for ones I create from now on. It is certainly not any more important than support for any of the other numerous formats supported by OOo. Interoperability has always been very difficult. What formats would you continue to support. Nothing wrong with support of multiple formats, except that perfect behaviour/performance with the odf must be the top priority. Note that I am not in a position to dictate to my boss or my companies clients what products they will use. Note that I do have full access to pretty much any MS product that I care to use, so if a MS format is not supported, then I must do all work with a MS deliverable in MS. That should continue; if the output required is m$, use m$. There is no advantage to use LO to create m$ documents. I could provide a list of reasons as to why I would prefer to use LO and then simply write to DOCX if that is what is needed, but, the brief version is (1) I just like LO much better that MSO interface just kills me. (2) Historically, there have been things that I did trivially in OOo / LO that I and a group of long time MSO users were unable to reproduce in MSO that was trivial in OOo. Is the issue related to download speed or the internal document arrangement? if it is the later, resaving the document with a newer version may help, but I have not touched that document directly in a bit because there was a bug in OOo that caused it to crash. The bug was fixed but never made it into the last OOo release. LO deals with the document just fine, but since the latest version of LO sometimes drops graphics, I am hesitant to touch the document with that either. Don't know.
