Re: [ovirt-users] Moving Hosted Engine NFS storage domain

2016-06-01 Thread Beard Lionel (BOSTON-STORAGE)
Hi,

Path is neither shared not mounted anymore on previous NFS server, but storage
domain is still up and cannot be removed…

Is there a possibility to remove it from command line ?

You must create a situation where vdsm would fail to monitor that domain. I.e
stop sharing that path or block it and then the status will allow you to force
remove

[ovirt-users] Gluster + ovirt + resize2fs

2016-06-01 Thread Matt Wells
Hi everyone, I had a quick question that I really needed to bounce off
someone; one of those measure twice cut once moments.

My primary datastore is on a gluster volume and the short story is I'm
going to grow it. I've thought of two options

1 - add a brick with the new space
** Was wondering from the gluster point of view if anyone had a best
practice for this. I've looked around and find many people explaining
their stories but not a definitive best practices.

2 - as I'm sitting atop LVMs grow the LVM.
** This is the one that makes me a little nervous. I've done many
resize2fs and never had issues, but I've never had gluster running atop
that volume and my VM's atop that. Has anyone had any experiences they
could share?

As far as I know we already force a redirect to https for anything that
requires it. Basically the only pages that do not are the welcome page and
some of error pages. But when you try to actually access anything like the web
admin or user portal we force a redirect to https.

I am not able to do that, "Remove" button is greyed.
And it is not possible to place it into maintenance mode because hosted VM is

Any clue?

[ovirt-users] ipxe and nslookup

2016-06-01 Thread Cam Mac
Hi,

I am using pxeboot with oVirt, which I believe uses ipxe as it's pxe
implementation. In our kickstart menu, we need to do a hostname lookup to
choose the appropriate local server as there are different boot servers in
different global locations. For this, we are currently relying upon the
'nslookup' command, which is available in Xen and VMWare pxe command sets,
but the oVirt/KVM one does not have this command enabled. I've tried a
workaround using php commands, e.g.:

 set wds
 set net0/next-server ${wds}

However, this does not work. Is there a possibility to get the nslookup
function enabled in ipxe (apparently it is a compile time option). I could
probably recompile the pxe rom, and substitute it on my install, but then
when I update it will get clobbered.

Or is there another way of getting this functionality?

Thanks,

Cam

You have to do a "force remove" in the UI (without clicking the
destroy checkbox) of that storage. Then it should be reimported
automatically.

Re: [ovirt-users] Moving Hosted Engine NFS storage domain

2016-06-01 Thread Beard Lionel (BOSTON-STORAGE)
Hi,

I have followed these steps :

- Stop supervdsmd + vdsmd + ovirt-ha-agent + ovirt-ha-broker

- Modify config file

- Copy files (cp better handles sparse files than rsync)

- Umount old hosted-engine path

- Restart services

-  Hosted VM doesn't start => hosted-engine -clean-metadata. I get an
error at the end, but now I am able to start Hosted VM :

o ERROR:ovirt_hosted_engine_ha.agent.hosted_engine.HostedEngine:Metadata for
current host missing.

I can connect to oVirt interface, everything seems to be working fine, but the
Hosted storage domain has an incorrect path, it is still pointing to old one...
I think this information is not correctly reported by web interface, because
this path doesn't exist anymore, and hosted VM is working !
Does anyone knows how to fix that ?

Lionel BEARD

Hi,

I'm trying to move Hosted storage from one NFS server to another.
As this is not a production environment, so I gave a try with no success, with
a plan similar to yours.

But I don't like to stay on a failure, so I will give a second chance by
following your plan :)

Hello,

we would like to move our NFS storage used for the HostedEngine.

Plan would be

  *   enable global maintenance
  *   shut-down HostedEngine VM
  *   edit  /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf on hosts

 *   storage=newnfs:/newnfsvolume

  * copy storage domain from old to new nfs server
  *   start HostedEngine VM
  * run engine-setup on HostedEngine VM
  *   disable global maintenance

Has anyone had any experience doing this?

Have I missed any steps out

we are currently running oVirt 3.6.2

Thanks,

  Paul S.

[ovirt-users] What network test validates a host?

2016-06-01 Thread Nicolas Ecarnot

Hello,

Last week, one of our DC went through a network crash, and surprisingly,
most of our hosts did resist.

Some of them lost there connectivity, and were stonithed.

I'd like to be sure to understand what tests are made to declare a host
valid :

- On the storage part, I guess EVERY[1] host is doing a read+write test
(using "dd") towards the storage domain(s), every... say 5 seconds (?)
In case of failure, I guess a countdown is triggered until this host is
shot.

But the network failure we faced was not on the dedicated storage
network, but purely on the "LAN" network (5 virtual networks).

- What kind of test is done on each host to declare the connectivity is
OK on every virtual network?
I ask that because oVirt has no knowledge of any gateway it could ping,
and in some cases, some virtual networks don't even have a gateway.

Is it a ping towards the SPM?
Towards the engine?
Is it a ping?

I ask that because I found out that some host restarted nicely, ran some
VMs, which had their NICs OK, but inside those guests, we find evidences
that they were not able to communicate with very simple networks usually
provided but the host.
So I'm trying to figure out if a host could come back to life, but
partially sound.

[1] Thus, I don't clearly see the benefit of the SPM concept...

Those informations should be updated after next login of the user. We did
synchronization in the past, but we decided not to do that any more due to
performance/sync issues.

You can create as many aaa-jdbc profiles as needed, please take a look at
README.administrator inside aaa-jdbc package

We do not support modifying content of LDAP server, to do that you need to
use tools provided by your LDAP provider.

yes, but it depends on the roles. If you have a user which is allowed only to
start/stop/reboot the vm and connect to console (UserRole I think) than in user
portal he will see only the basic user portal. Otherwise both basic and power.

no, this is not possible

[ovirt-users] Automated users/groups creation and updating them

2016-06-01 Thread Alexis HAUSER
Hi,

I'm trying to find what are the different ways / approaches to automated
users/groups creation, based on a LDAP/AD database.

This is my first problematic : when a LDAP/AD provider is joined, and a user is
created in ovirt from this provider, the user heritates a part of the
attributes from this LDAP database. Now if I change one attribute on the LDAP
side (for example "first name"), it isn't updated on the ovirt user.
Would there be other way to update this information than creating / deleting
the user ?

My second problematic is what should I use to automate creation of users.

It seems possible with :
- shell scripting : using ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool
- python SDK
- java SDK
- rest API

Which one of these approaches would be the most simple ? I'm more familiar with
shell scripting than other languages. That would be nice to find a way with it.

Concerning ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool, I've heard it was only adding/deleting users
from the internal DB, not the others. In that case, is there a way in shell
scripting to interact with other profiles than internal ?

Is there files somewhere containing users and their informations I could modify
?

What would happen if a user is in use and it is modified/deleted at the same
time ?

I know it makes a lot of questions, but I can't really get started before
having those answers.

+1 no need to rerun engine-setup

After that change make sure the old domain isn't reachable anymore. When
the engine will start that domain will appear at Storage main-tab as
unresponsive or some other error state. Right click it and choose "force
remove" (don't choose the checkbox in the dialog)
The import should retrigger itself.

The only problem I see (ATM) is that the configuration disk image under
this domain has a copy of hosted-engine.conf which is stale and has the old
ID.

If this is working I would appreciate if you can jot down a small post on
it, thanks!

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt Engine - Wait For Launch

2016-06-01 Thread Tomas Jelinek
We will need some more details:
- VDSM and engine version
- logs (engine and vdsm)
- please make a REST request to /ovirt-engine/api/vms and check if
the VMs are reported as UP or wait for launch

A quick and nasty recommendation would be to restart VDSM and engine and lets
see if helps.
