so the proxy line seems populated in both the portals...

Initially I got 11 TCP connections to proxy ip
After about 18 minutes I see that they are only 4 in ESTABLISHED state, the
other ones are CLOSE_WAIT

remote-viewer app itself seems to work (I can select menu options) bit I
have black screen without being able to interact.
Also switching to full screen I only have black screen

Yes, the user was the same. I gave admin PowerUserRole on the VM so to be
able to connect as admin also in User Portal.

After the fault was solved I cleared all events in Events tap, and they 
disappeared.

But the Dashboard still shows the alarms.

[ovirt-users] remove gluster storage domain and resize gluster storage domain

I have a  3 node cluster with replica 3 gluster volume.
But for some reason the volume is not using the full size available.
I thought maybe it was because I had created a second gluster volume on 
same partition, so I tried to remove it.


I was able to put it in maintenance mode and detach it, but in no window 
was I able to get the "remove" option to be enabled.
Now if I select "attach data" I see ovirt thinks the volume is still 
there, although it is not.


2 questions.

1. how do I clear out the old removed volume from ovirt?

2. how do I get gluster to use the full disk space available?

Its a 1T partition but it only created a 225G gluster volume. Why? How 
do I get the space back?


All three nodes look the same:

Yaniv,

I am looking at the page that talks about ovirt-provider-ovn, and it sounds
like something I want to try. However the document seems to be not
complete, and I'm not sure i fully understand how it should be deployed.
When I downloaded the "ovirt-provider-ovn-driver-0-1.noarch.rpm" and try to
install on the oVIRT nodes it complains about needing other packages such
as:

- openvswitch-ovn-central
- python-openvswitch
- firewalld-system
- openvswitch-ovn-host

I don't see anywhere where it talks about getting access to the RPMS for
openvswitch-ovn-central. Also I presume like Neutron I would install OVN on
a Master node and then install some clients on the nodes? Can you provide
me additional information on this?

I only tried with the admin portal.  I just now tried the user portal
but something seems to be broken -- when I log in to the user portal
with my admin@internal credentials I don't see any of my VMs!  I know I

since I upgraded to 4.0.5.  Not sure what's going on there.

I just tried logging in with another user and I see the authorized VMs.
So there's something about admin@internal and the user portal in 4.0.5
that's causing me issues.

I just tested from my user account.  I opened a console to a VM and let
it sit idle.  After 15 minutes the first connection closed (the same as
the admin portal).  The second connection closed after about 70 minutes
at which point the console became unusable.  This implies to me that
user vs admin portal does not affect the console becoming unusable after
some period of idle time, after which the second of four connections
drops.

Is there anything else you'd like me to test?

There is no technical limitation, AFAIK.
I've looked last night at ConfigShell[1] (and see example @ [2])], and it
looks nice and simple (then again, all examples are simple at first).
I'd be happy to see someone developing a CLI on top of the Python SDK using
it.
Perhaps we can write it down as a Google Summer Of Code project.

Ok ok

When you make a full restore you have a whole new VM, but what if you 
just need  just one directory? "/etc/puppet/environments" for example


So there is where granular backup works, because if you don't have that 
option you will have to restore the whole VM, copy that directory, then 
delete the restored VM


I don't know if my english is good enough to explain perfectly, but do 
you understand my point?

I can suggest waiting for 4.1 for this as we are adding download ability as
well.
This will allow you at first to backup and restore base images and later on
in 4.1.z uploading and downloading snapshots.

I believe that both full and granular restore can be done via the API as we
support offset uploads, can you give more details on the different between
these options?

+1, yes deleting an old v3 API ok, but why not adapting ovirt-shell to 
the new v4 API? I use ovirt-shell every day, often to replace the slow

python or java to write my own scripts, and I find ovirt-shell very 
useful, easy and fast. We've been used to have ready-to-go CLI in almost 
every opensource software as a simple way to manage, why not going on 
with ovirt 4 if people do need it? Is cloud approach something to do 
with that idea?

Rational reason would be much appreciated.

- I'm creating a software to make full backup and restore of VMs using 
python and the backup/restore api


- The main difference is, i want to have the option to make a full 
restore or granular restore.


- The backup process is:

- Create snapshot off the vm

- Mount snapshot disk to a "backup vm"

- Identify device name of that disk, this means "/dev/vdc" and so on.

- Create a qcow2 image from disk

- Get vm configuration in a xml file

- Create a compressed file from both files

- Detach disk from backup vm

- Delete the snapshot

- The full recovery process is:

- Upload the qcow2 files throw image io api

- Create a new vm based on the xml file

- The granular recover process is:

- Mount the qcow2 image to as a loop device

- Copy files

I will create a kind of new format, this "new format" will be a .tgz 
file with:


- qcow2 images, ordered by number, example:

- 00-vm.qcow2

- 01-vm.qcow2

- the vm xml file

I working on this a few days ago, so if you are interested it will be a 
pleasure to me provide a solution to the community.

Please try this, from the engine machine, as user root:

ssh -i /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/keys/engine_id_rsa HOST

Replace "HOST" with the name or address you input in the field "Address"
in the "New Host" dialog. I think that's 'node1', from above.

Does it work? If not, please check sshd configuration/logs on the host.

Hi Yaniv,

Yes, the provider gives me access to the power management of the server, by
using the user web portal and their java applet (the provider is OVH, in
case you have worked with their enviroment). Sadly, their IPMI device is
connected to a non accesible network for me, but only accesible by those
"web" means of using their java appleat via the web user portal.

I'm not sure I'm fully understanding your workaround, sorry :/ In any case,
if 4.1 brings the functionality described (hope it does!) it would be more
than enough for my case. Also, I'll try to "play" with the ipmilan to see
if I can get someplace with it. As my main problem is that one of the hosts
is suddenly rebooting with apparently no software reason, what I'll try to
do is to as soon as the host becomes non-responsive, start sending the
"restart" command to it from my hosted-engine (which HA works no matter
power fencing). So, after the unexpected rebooting of the host, a
controlled reboot should take place allowing the VMs to power on in the
other host.

I'll try to make some time next week to give that a try. Hope it works!!!

Not sure about node specifically.

You can try preventing host-deploy from trying to update packages using:

Search there for 'OFFLINE'.

SSH connection between this two hosts work fine so I do not understand why

It is planned to be replaced with the image IO streaming API.
With this API you will be able to upload and download VMs disks and
snapshots.
We are also planning to add OVA download and upload in one of the next
releases.
Until this is done we will not be removing the export domain.

Does he give you access to a smart power grid? If so, you can probably use
that as a fencing mechanism. If there is no access via IPMI nor power, how
can you cycle a stuck host?

A not very good workaround is to run the VMs themselves pinned to different
hosts with a clustering between them. I think it's a bad idea (wasteful),
but it is HA. And in some applications it can be active-active.
You can use virtio-SCSI with passthrough to do SCSI based fencing on a
shared disk (quorum disk), for example.

engine-manage-domains has been depracated in 3.5 and completelly
removed in 4.0.

I was replaced by ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap[1].

But you can also use ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc, which actually
should full-fill your requirment to have it on same host. This is
pre-installed extension, as @internal domain is using it by default.
If you want to add more users to this extension you have to use tool
named 'ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool'. You should follow it's help:

 $ ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool --help
 $ ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user --help
 $ ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user add --help
 $ ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user password-reset --help

 $ ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user add my_user
 $ ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user password-reset my_user 
--password-valid-to="2017-01-01 00:00:00Z"

users, because I am still stuck with admin user and nothing else. I've done
my research and discovered you need to use engin-manage-domains to add
extra domain which would host users for you and then you just load them in
your oVirt enviroment and assign roles to them. However, on my server,
nothing like engine-manage-domains exists, it only shows "command not
