Is this generally expected?

If it's working as expected, and you only ask us "how?", then you might
want to check openuds docs. Perhaps it logs you in with different users?
No idea. What OS is running on the VM?

When you check oVirt's admin console, do you see only one VM? Where are
VDI_1 and VDI_2 defined, and how? Did you define the vm by yourself, or
used openuds to do that for you?

You might want to change the subject of your email to something like
'oVirt and openuds'.

You can add the host to ovirt, converting the hosts to ovit host.

There is no way to external host.

Hi,

Are you using the rpm from the nightly builds.
Please add this line to your inventory file

openshift_logging_es_nodeselector={'node-role.kubernetes.io/infra':
 'true'}

I believe it will solve this error.

Hi Marcelo,

I'm sorry you are having issues with the installation, we are working to
improve that.

I wanted to update you that I have update the OpenShift version to install to
3.11 instead of 3.9,
so that it will fit to the OpenShift latest version and this should simplify
the support for the installation by the OpenShift team.
It is available in the latest oVirt nightly and documentation is up to date
https://ovirt.org/documentation/metrics-install-guide/metrics-install-guide/

Also, I want to let you know that in the next release we plan to add support
for an all-in-one installation that will create the vm/s for you and install
OpenShift on them.
This should simplify immensely the process of setting up the oVirt metrics
store.

I'll contact the OpenShift team for help about your issue as well, But you may
want to install version 3.11 instead.
Please let me know if decide you want to try installing the latest version.

Best regards,

[ovirt-users] Re: Replicated storage gets erased when added to new environment.

2018-11-13 Thread Christopher Cox
Don't think so. AFAIK, but this might have changed in 4.x. But usually
to float "stuff" between datacenters, you have to export to an export
domain and then do an import.

1. Attach non-attached export domain
2. Export VMs (must include templates if from templates)
3. Detach export domain.
4. On new datacenter, attach export domain
5. Import VMs
6. Detach export domain.

There might be come sort of unsupported way to take a Storage Domain
into a different datacenter, I'm just not aware of such. Thus, the idea
of a "replicate" would have to be a full "replicate" in a failover style
scenario where you can't really tell the difference between the two (the
storage domain works on the replicate because it can't tell the
difference). Thus, only one could ever be "up" at any time. Even so, I
haven't tried to do this. If the metadata contains something so
intrinsic to the the hypervisor cluster that it can't be effectively
replicated, obviously this isn't going to work without some sort of
assist that can massage/convert the metadata.

IMHO (again, I'm not up on any 4.x stuff that might have made this
easier/possible)

On 11/13/18 5:01 PM, Jacob Green wrote:

'80dcf277-9958-4368-b7dd-2a5d5d29b3ec' is already attached to a
different storage pool, clean the storage domain metadata."

So I am assuming in a real disaster recovery scenario the Ansible stuff
is doing some magic there.

However, I would like to know if I properly detach a Fiber Channel
storage domain, is it simple to import it to a new environment. Any
guidance before I undertake such a task?

On 11/13/2018 04:34 PM, Jacob Green wrote:

Ok I hear what your saying and thank you for your input! By the way
this is a test environment I am working with so I can learn, so there
is no risk for dual brainy-ness. Also I figured out where I was going
wrong earlier on site B, I was clicking "New Domain" instead of
"Import Domain" So I was able to import the replicated iSCSI domain,
however now when I try to attach the storage domain, I get the
following in the even log.

"VDSM jake-ovirt2 command CleanStorageDomainMetaDataVDS failed: Cannot
acquire host id: ('80dcf277-9958-4368-b7dd-2a5d5d29b3ec',
SanlockException(5, 'Sanlock lockspace add failure', 'Input/output
error'))"

It is my opinion that my problem now is that since the data domain was
not properly detached before replication, that my replicated storage
will not attach because of some "lock" on the storage domain? Is that
what this error means or am I missing the mark completely?

On 11/13/2018 02:41 PM, Christopher Cox wrote:
Normally a "replicate" or RAID 1 style scenario is handled by a SAN
frontend (like IBM's SVC) or some other mirroring mechanism that
presents an abstracted mirrored LUN as a Storage Domain to oVirt.

So, the answer lies with your storage supplier and/or SAN abstractor.

With that said, reading your full text, this would still be likely
for a failover scenario and not a "live/live" scenario. A "live/live"
scenarios risks the problem inherent to two things being "split
brained".  And this is usually very bad for non-cluster aware storage
(and the complexity of cluster aware storage could be great in this
case).

replicated storage would look like. However when I import it I get
the follow, and the vms are wiped from the replicated storage I

So is this possible with iscsi? Is there another way to go about
doing this?

My iscsi solution is freenas.

[ovirt-users] Re: Replicated storage gets erased when added to new environment.

2018-11-13 Thread Jacob Green
Ok I found my answer in the *engine.log *"Domain
'80dcf277-9958-4368-b7dd-2a5d5d29b3ec' is already attached to a
different storage pool, clean the storage domain metadata."

So I am assuming in a real disaster recovery scenario the Ansible stuff
is doing some magic there.

However, I would like to know if I properly detach a Fiber Channel
storage domain, is it simple to import it to a new environment. Any
guidance before I undertake such a task?

It is my opinion that my problem now is that since the data domain was
not properly detached before replication, that my replicated storage
will not attach because of some "lock" on the storage domain? Is that
what this error means or am I missing the mark completely?

So, the answer lies with your storage supplier and/or SAN abstractor.

With that said, reading your full text, this would still be likely
for a failover scenario and not a "live/live" scenario. A "live/live"

[ovirt-users] Networking - interface and security questions

2018-11-13 Thread davidk
Hello,

I'm trying to setup a new ovirt install and have run into some general issues
that I hope someone can help with.

I'm somewhat new to ovirt (but not virtualization).

First off, I've been doing lots of reading and I can't seem to find what the
generally accepted method is for firewalling access between networks and VMs is
in ovirt? I see references to network filters, but no obvious ways to set
ports or modify the configuration beyond a set list of general good-practice
policies (no arp spoofing, etc).

What do people use in a production environment? Trunk out to an external
firewall and do the filtering there? Run iptables or some rules locally in
each VM? Or just run pfSense or other firewall software as another VM and
manage it there?

And lastly, I'm trying to setup a new interface using the external ovn provider
but am having problems.

I can define the external provider network just fine (not connected to physical
network), but can't seem to actually use it.

When I create a new VM and assign the new network to an associated interface,
the VM fails to start.

The error I get is:

"VM testvm is down with error. Exit message: Cannot get interface MTU on
'br-int': No such device."

Am I missing something obvious here?

I'm running oVirt 4.2.7 with the latest oVirt Node on a few hosts (also 4.2.7).

All my configuration has been via the web interface so far.

Sincerely,

[ovirt-users] Re: LDAP Bind failing because of SSLHandshakeException after Virtualization Manager was rebooted

2018-11-13 Thread Will Hegedus
So, it turns out that one of the domain controllers had a different certificate
chain (outside of my team's control) which was inexplicably causing the whole
thing to fail.

I would run "ovirt-engine-extensions-tool --log-level=FINEST
--log-file=/tmp/aaa.log aaa login-user --user-name=prea...@liberty.edu
--profile=liberty.edu" and everything would look fine up until the point that
it needed to "doFetchPrincipalRecord", at which point it would fail to get the
principal record for the account. The bind would succeed, but because "Creating
LDAPConnectionPool" would fail on *just one* of the domain controllers, it for
some reason seemed to invalidate all of the entries in that pool, thereby
causing the fetching of principal records to fail even though the bind
succeeded on one of the OK domain controllers.

Is this behavior intended? I really think this should be classified as a bug.

For what it's worth, this was resolved by getting the certificate chain from
the problem DC and then adding it to the Java Keystore with the other
certificate chain that all the other domain controllers use.

[ovirt-users] LDAP Bind failing because of SSLHandshakeException after Virtualization Manager was rebooted

2018-11-13 Thread wbhegedus
After moving and rebooting our Red Hat Virtualization Manager box to another
node in our cluster, we are unable to make LDAP login work using StartTLS. No
networking or configuration changes were made, but the logs indicate that the
TLS negotiation is failing with our Active Directory domain controllers now.
Specifically:

"2018-11-13 10:33:12,500-05 WARN
[org.ovirt.engineextensions.aaa.ldap.Framework] (ServerService Thread Pool --
49) [] Exception: The connection reader was unable to successfully complete TLS
negotiation: SSLHandshakeException(sun.security.validator.ValidatorException:
No trusted certificate found), ldapSDKVersion=4.0.5,
revision=b28fb50058dfe2864171df2448ad2ad2b4c2ad58"

I have tried everything I can think of. I removed and reimported the
certificate for the domain controller in the Java Keystore. I deleted the
profile entirely and recreated it. I tried using the full certificate chain and
I tried using single certificates from the chain, and all combinations together.

For now, we have it working by specifying "pool.default.ssl.insecure = true" in
the .properties file, but I'd prefer to have this working again using StartTLS.
Is there something I am missing? I want to make sure that I'm not overlooking
something before submitting any sort of bug report.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

PS - this is what the properties file looks like:

[ovirt-users] How to force a QoS IO limit update to all disks

2018-11-13 Thread Florian Schmid
Hi,

oVirt version: 4.2.5.1

I have a strange problem with IO limiting.
I have a storage domain for our dev environment and I have set the default Disk
Profile to a QoS rule with IO limit enabled.
This rule is working so far, but when I change the QoS rule of this default
Disk Profile to a different IO limit, all the disks have still the old limit
active.

Only when I edit the disk and click OK without changing anything, I see also in
Events, that the new IO limit is set.
This behavior would cause me a lot of work, because we have several 100s of
disks and I can't edit all, only to have new QoS active.

Is there another way to do this bulk change of disk IO limit?

What data do you need to have a look on?

EDIT:
I saw now, that the QoS policy is automated updated on some VMs and there only
on some disks, but not on all. Is there a rate limit active or so?

[ovirt-users] Can I Move a Fiber Channel Domain between different environments?

2018-11-13 Thread Jacob Green
We have two Ovirt environments, our existing environment is Ovirt
4.1 And we want to migrate to our 4.2 environment, we chose this path
because upgrading had a lot of issues for us, also we are migrating our
cluster environment to a new IP scheme. So this made the most sense to us.

The question we have now is can we simply move an existing Fiber Channel
domain from our Ovirt 4.1 environment to our 4.2 environment. I see
information here that suggests we can,
https://ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Storage/ however there
is information further down in the document that seems conflicting or I
am confused, I am willing to accept that.

*Near the top of the page I linked it says the following*

"Note:The export storage domain is deprecated. Storage data domains can
be unattached from a data center and imported to another data center in
the same environment, or in a different environment. Virtual machines,
floating virtual disk images, and templates can then be uploaded from
the imported storage domain to the attached data center. SeeImporting
Existing Storage Domains
for
information on importing storage domains."

**Ok cool so I should be able to import the storage domain into a new
environment? According to that information it would seem so.*

*

*However further down it says the following,*

"Reusing LUNs

LUNs cannot be reused, as is, to create a storage domain or virtual
disk. If you try to reuse the LUNs, the Administration Portal displays
the following error message:"

So I do not want to make a mistake, and remove my storage domain from my
original ovirt environment just to find I cannot re add it to the new
ovirt environment, and if I do that will I be able to import the VMs?

Thank you for any guidance on this topic, It would be much appreciated.

I guess the TLDR would be is the part pasted below of the linked
documentation accurate for fiber channel?

"Data
Importing an existing data storage domain allows you to access all of
the virtual machines and templates that the data storage domain
contains. After you import the storage domain, you must manually import
virtual machines, floating disk images, and templates into the
destination data center. The process for importing the virtual machines
and templates that a data storage domain contains is similar to that for
an export storage domain. However, because data storage domains contain
all the virtual machines and templates in a given data center, importing
data storage domains is recommended for data recovery or large-scale
migration of virtual machines between data centers or environments.
Important: You can import existing data storage domains that were
attached to data centers with a compatibility level of 3.5 or higher."

Please forgive my confusion.

[ovirt-users] [ANN] oVirt 4.2.7 async update is now available

2018-11-13 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
The oVirt Team has just released a new version of the following packages:
- ovirt-engine
- ovirt-hosted-engine-setup
- ovirt-release42

Corresponding oVirt Node is being built and will be released tomorrow.

The async release addresses the following bugs:

- Bug 1647032 - Update gluster volume options set on the volume
- Bug 1645757 - VMs running on the deployed host are removed from the
engine after backup/restore
- Bug 1620314 - SHE disaster recovery is broken in new 4.2 deployments as
hosted_storage is master
- Bug 1568841 - Can't restore hosted-engine backup at deployment

The following enhancements are also included:
- Bug 1469908 - [RFE] Support managed/automated restore
- Bug 1406067 - [RFE] have the option to install hosted engine on specific
datacenter and cluster.

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] Ovirt VDI

2018-11-13 Thread Hari Prasanth Loganathan
Hi Team,

I created a VM which has one disk.
For this VM, I created two Virtual Desktop (VDI_1 and VDI_2) using
open-UDS and it created successfully.

*Consider the following scenario* :

1) I took a console for VDI_1 and created a file in it using the console
2) I took the console for VDI_2 and checked whether the file created in
VDI_1 is available in it but as per the VDI concept it is not available

Could someone clarify the below use case,

Now when I looked at the Disk associated with the VDI, It seems the Disk of
the VM is same for the VDI_1 and VDI_2, so How does the file created in
VDI_1 is not reflecting in VDI_2?

Thanks,
Hari

[ovirt-users] Re: Ovirt Python - SDK

2018-11-13 Thread Hari Prasanth Loganathan
Thanks, Valentin and Brad.

I modified the UDS code to support ovirtSDK4, so everything works as
expected now.
Your thoughts are much appreciated.

Ansible 2.7.1 has been released in EPEL repositories. We are going to issue
an async update including oVirt Node by the end of this week.
CentOS hosts can be already updated consuming ansible 2.7.1.

Hi Shirley,
I will wait to install all in one, do you know when this feature will be
available?

Very thanks.

[ovirt-users] Re: Memory usage is inaccurate on ovirt web manager.

2018-11-13 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi,

please notice the Shared Memory lines:

node2:
 Shared Memory:57%

vs.

node3:
 Shared Memory:98%

It seems you have overcommit enabled and KSM started deduplicating
pages. This frees memory when there are multiple VMs that use
identical pages. And node3 either has VMs that are similar or was just
faster when searching for identical pages.

Best regards

[ovirt-users] VM ramdomly unresponsive

2018-11-13 Thread fsoyer

Hi all,
I continue to try to understand my problem between (I suppose) oVirt anf
Gluster.
After my recents posts titled 'VMs unexpectidly restarted' that did not provide
solution nor search idea, I submit to you another (related ?) problem.
Parallely with the problem of VMs down (that did not reproduce since Oct 16), I
have ramdomly some events in the GUI saying "VM x is not responding." For
example, VM "patjoub1" on 2018-11-11 14:34. Never the same hour, not all the
days, often this VM patjoub1 but not always : I had it on two others. All VMs
disks are on a volume DATA02 (with leases on the same volume).

Searching in engine.log, I found :

 (sp:1230)OK : so, DATA02 marked as blocked for 20s ? I definitly have a
problem with gluster ? I'll inevitably find the reason in the gluster logs ? Uh
: not at all.
Please see gluster logs here :
https://seafile.systea.fr/d/65df86cca9d34061a1e4/

Unfortunatly I discovered this morning that I have not the sanlock.log for this
date. I don't understand why, the log rotate seems OK with "rotate 3", but I
have no backups files :(.
But, luck in bad luck, the same event occurs this morning ! Same VM patjoub1,
2018-11-13 08:01:37. So I have added the sanlock.log for today, maybe it can
help.

IMPORTANT NOTE : don't forget that Gluster log with on hour shift. For this
event at 14:34, search at 13h34 in gluster logs.
I recall my configuration :
Gluster 3.12.13
oVirt 4.2.3
3 nodes where the third is arbiter (volumes in replica 2)

The nodes are never overloaded (CPU average 5%, no peak detected at the time of
the event, mem 128G used at 15% (only 10 VMs on this cluster)). Network
underused, gluster is on a separate network on a bond (2 NICs) 1+1Gb mode 4 =
2Gb, used in peak at 10%.

Here is the configuration for the given volume :

[ovirt-users] Re: Ovirt Python - SDK

2018-11-13 Thread Valentin Bajrami
Hi Hari,

It would be best to create a venv(virtual environment) as follows:

python3 -m venv ovirtsdk

Then while in ovirtsdk venv directory you can use pip to install the
following packages:

- ovirt-engine-sdk-python==4.2.9
- pycurl==7.43.0.2

Install these packages using:

pip install ovirt-engine-sdk-python==4.2.9 pycurl==7.43.0.2

Then, when you run your code use,  ovirtsdk/bin/python yourcode_py

Let me know if this works for you!

Unfortunately you are trying to implement an unsupported setup as discussed
already here:

participated in the thread on the email to/cc sections, it will improve the
chances the thread is tracked by them.

I really depends if you are on hosted-engine or not and if on hyper
converged or not, if power management is configured and so on.
If not hosted-engine at all and no power management, I'd suggest:

shutdown:
1. shutdown all VMs
2. set host1 and host2 in maintenance mode from the engine (just to ensure
that all the locks on storage side are properly removed otherwise the
restart could take more time)
3. shutdown the engine host
4. shutdown hosts
5. shutdown your SAN

start:
1. start the SAN
2. start hosts
3. start engine host
4. remove hosts from maintenance
5. start VMs

Thanks,I read the link just now,But I would like to do it manually(Just
because I am not often to do it).Would you like to tell me the sequence about
shutdown?

Like as:
shutdown>>
step1:shutdown all VMs is running
step2:shutdown host1
step2:shutdown host2
step3:shutdown engine
step4:shutdown FCSAN storage
start>>
step1:start FCSAN storage
step2:start engine
step2:start host1
step3:start host2

I don't know whether I am right.

Hi,
of course you can manually simply shutdown the VMs on the storage domain
you want to migrate, detach it from the first engine and import it back in
the second one.
I'd also suggest to take a look to manageIQ which is the best response to
manage complex environments composed by multiple engine from a single panel.

[ovirt-users] what the sequence of shutdown in Cluster enviroment

2018-11-13 Thread max zhang
Hi man,There is always a doubt what the sequence of shutdown in Cluster
enviroment.
The enviroment like as:
  engine.host.com
  node.host1.com
  node.host2.com
  FCSAN
host1 and host2 are in the same cluster.

By the way, after I shutdown all the host, what the sequence of start in Cluster
enviroment.

Best regards.
