Hi,

Does anyone know:

* how to get the watch list to work with Microsoft Exchange server to send
emails out to users?
* how do you edit a users email address - it's not in their profile - you
only seem able to set it when registering a user

Thanks AK,

It would be great if in futture it was more easily visible i.e. in the
profile.

My colleagues and I were also wondering if in future it was easier to add
users to groups - at the moment you have to type in the user name it seems
to add them to a user group. It would be better to be able to edit a user
and select their user group from a populated drop down list of user groups,
or in the user groups page to assign a user to a user group from a populated
drop down list of users.

And if anyone else knows how to get the Watchlist to work with Microsoft
Exchange we'd be grateful - thanks.

It is really good that you got it but I think it is very important for
people to share with others what they got, so if someone has a similar
problem  he/she can at least see a possible solution rather than repost
the same question again.  This happens very often on all forums. In my
mind it doesn't matter how simple / trivial the solution is (user error,
one line code etc) the point is it should be described and posted for
future use.

Hi guys,

I have some points that I don't understand in XWiki, which occur
somehow like bugs to me.

I just edited the WebHome article of the Main Space which came with
the default XWiki-Xar-File.
In that WebHome there are 2 sections defined, the first one being the
started by a Title1 format caption and the second one being started by
a Title2 format caption. First thing is, how can I get another section
with Title2 format in that page. I couldn't find any documentation on
this.

When editing the page in XWiki1.0 syntax I tried to add a section by
having a 1.2 prefix after the existing 1 and 1.1 section, but
that results in 1.2 being printed on the resulting  page instead of a
Title2 headline and a new section. When I format Title2 using WYSIWYG,
I get HTML syntax in Wiki-Syntax instead of 1.2 (which didn't work
before). The result is, that the page has a new bold Title2 headline,
but still no new section (besides the syntax being strange - HTML).

Another point is, that I just reedited that page and now, after
saving, the first section, the one with the Title1 headline is no
longer editable. WebHome points to section 2 directly, though I still
see the content in the page.

Last point is: How can I get XWiki2.0 Syntax working? I enabled it in
xwiki.cfg, but that doesn't seem to have any effect.

I really hope, you can give me some hints on my troubles. BTW, I'm
using MSSQL 2000, if that could be involved in the problems.

You need to edit your class' ClassSheet.

Edit the page you're looking at in wiki mode. Look for something like

#includeTopic(Space.SomethingClassSheet)

On the right of the page, click on  edit included document
Space.SomethingClassSheet 

Using HTML, CSS  Velocity you can now change the contents of the ClassSheet
that defines how items from that class will be displayed in inline view.

If you're editing the page in wiki mode, you can create new sections using
titles :
1 Level 1 title
1.1 Level 2 title
1.1 Another level 2 title
In WYSIWYG mode, you can do the same thing by writing content, highlighting
it and selecting the title level you want to use in the drop-down menu.
Please note that the WYSIWYG editor associated with XWiki 1.0 syntax is old
and will be updated soon.

Do you succeed in making it work on a per-page basis? That is, when you edit
a page, select XWiki 2.0 in the syntax menu on the right, save the page then
edit it again has it switched to XWiki 2.0?

I don't know muwh about MSSQL 2000 but I think it doesn't matter at all
since Hibernate provides an abstraction layer here (I may miss an unexpected
bug though).

Hello,
I have faced a similar issue with the search panel having disappeared
both from the column and from the panel wizard. I tried changing all
the possible page layouts and every time i changed the layout i went
and checked the panel in the panel wizard. It just wasn't there!
The one thing that i distinctly remember i did before the panel
disappeared is that i changed the look  feel of the search box by
adding a different button and set a background image. In fact, i had
playing around with the skin for quite a while not just the panels.
Don't know if these two are related.
I had to scrap one of the instances of XWiki 1.7 final because of this
problem. I have managed to setup the whole thing again. However, i am
afraid i might just end into the same thing again.
I am running XWiki 1.7 final version on a tomcat 6 server with mysql 5
and the corresponding jdbc:mysql driver. This time, however, i've not
changed the skin or the css at all except for the logo at the top.

Thank you very much. I managed that by entering it in the Url directly. But
your first suggestion doesn't work as I can't find new page panel under
the tools. Only search panel is shown under tools. Is it a xWiki bug?

thanks for your quick reply. Though I didn't find anything new on that

What I still don't get is How to create sections - or get an edit
icon at the top right at all. While the original WebHome and the
edited version of it has it for each section, new pages don't get such
an icon. I looked at the WebHome page and found, it is using the
XWiki.ArticleClass object. Unfortunately adding this object to a new
article doesn't resolve the issue. Any idea, what I might be doing
wrong?

Ajdin,

You are absolutely right, especially since there seem to be so few people
posting information from a users perspective. So here's what I did.

The key to getting it working was an example I found in the snippets section
that talked about how to create new documents with Tags. It showed an
example of how to check if there was an instance of a certain class already
attached to a document and create one if not (I already knew how to do this
more or less). The important piece was how to set a property on that object
once you have a handle to it. I don't have the code done completely yet but
the basic shell is something like:

I still need to implement a few things but I know should work for what I
need.

The main thing I'm trying to determine at this point is if I can't require
someone to have an account in order to vote, how do I keep them from voting
multiple times? I can't use cookies, and I'm not sure using their IP address
will prove of any use. Even if users do have to register in order to vote,
I'm not sure there's an API method available that allows me to access their
unique user ID as opposed to their user name. If I have to track usernames
on each of these objects for all of the people who have ever voted on a
particular question it could get out of hand really fast!

Any ideas?

 I don't know muwh about MSSQL 2000 but I think it doesn't matter at all
 since Hibernate provides an abstraction layer here (I may miss an unexpected

If you are getting it on some pages then you have it turned on in the config
so that's step one. Now the magic bit...

Use a header for your section, any of these will create you a new section in
the page that can be edited separately.

I believe all of these create new sections. To be honest, I think that this
behavior is annoying. I'd much rather have a Tag or some other indicator
that I want a given heading to be individually editable. There are times
when I may want to use one of those headings and NOT have it create a nee
editable section in the page. But that is neither here nor there...

thanx for your answer. Yes, this helps a little and I also think, to
have a seperate option of distinguishing between title and section
would be nice. But, as I just wrote, here the following does not
create editable sections with XWiki Syntax 2.0.

and so forth...

Can someone check this please, could be a potential bug.

[xwiki-users] New macros not loaded

Hi!
I've created some simple macros (for html otput), but they are not
loaded after I restart tomcat (5.5). Old macros work fine, but the new
are just rendered as a text.

I just found out, that the section editing icons I mentioned appear
when using Syntax 1.0 over Syntax 2.0. Bug?
Only remains open for this post, if it is possible to automatically
convert XWiki Syntax 1.0 articles to XWiki Syntax 2.0 article.

Thanks for your response.  The server is definitely shutting down.  I am 
running linux, so unfortunately, no dtrace.  However, I did strace the process 
(with '-f' and  '-ff' so it follows forks), and it never tried to open the 
file.  Atime is also definitely enabled on this filesystem.  If I cat the file, 
I can see the atime is modified.

I think a first implementation of this is included in the latest XWiki
Enterprise release (1.8M1). To use it, simply go to a page that is written
in XWiki 1.0 syntax and select XWiki 2.0 in the drop-down menu on the left.
This will automatically convert your page's syntax (a couple bugs may occur
since it's only a first implementation, especially on heavily code-loaded
pages).

Good point this is not documented yet. It should go on that page too.  
Basically on a xwiki 1.0 page you just select the 2.0 syntax and

 If you are getting it on some pages then you have it turned on in  
 the config
 so that's step one. Now the magic bit...

 Use a header for your section, any of these will create you a new  
 section in
 the page that can be edited separately.

 I believe all of these create new sections. To be honest, I think  
 that this
 behavior is annoying. I'd much rather have a Tag or some other

ever voted on a particular question it could get out of hand 
really fast!

Not sure if storing IDs instead of usernames makes much difference.
Also IP addresses will change but maybe not that often.

Just thinking but perhaps you could create a new property in your page 
class and add username to it each time someone votes.
Then on load (view mode) you can get this list of usernames as an array 
and loop to check if current user already in there. If so then do not 
show the vote form.

You are absolutely right, especially since there seem to be so few
people posting information from a users perspective. So here's what I
did.

The key to getting it working was an example I found in the snippets
section that talked about how to create new documents with Tags. It
showed an example of how to check if there was an instance of a certain
class already attached to a document and create one if not (I already
knew how to do this more or less). The important piece was how to set a
property on that object once you have a handle to it. I don't have the
code done completely yet but the basic shell is something like:

 in xwiki.cfg you have the property xwiki.authentication.logoutpage
 which is a regexp to match a logout request but this does not match
 URL based multiwiki because it not enabled by default. To fix the
 problem you can set

 xwiki.authentication.logoutpage=(/wiki/[^/]+/|/[^/]+/|/)logout/*

 Now I'm not sure if we can consider this has a bug or just indicate in
 xwiki.virtual.usepath comments that the

Unfortunately, all the emails mention example links that no longer exist, so
there's no obvious Xwiki examples providing Simile widgetry in Xwiki ...

somehow creating links in XWiki Syntax 2 doesnt work anymore (in all wikis).

[xwiki-users] Workspaces and ldap issue

I'm currently working on a pilot install of Xwiki workspaces at our University 
and have installed Xwiki on a RHEL 5 server with tomcat5 and that seems all 
good and well.   I've been working lately on getting ldap authentication setup 
and working and I can now successfully log into Workspaces using ldap 
credentials.  However, once logged in using ldap I get the following message.  
 You cannot create a personal space since you are not registered on this wiki 
!  So I'm hoping that what I'm trying to do is possible because if not its 
pretty much a show stopper for our attempt with Xwiki.  I'm using Xwiki 
Workspaces 1.1.1.
