[vchkpw] vpopmail variables
hi all... what other variables besides $EXT and $USER does vpopmail have access to at delivery? is there a list on line somewhere? is there a way that the variables [EMAIL PROTECTED] can be set to the address in Return-Path: in a .qmail-username file? thanks.
RE: [vchkpw] spamd vpopmail qmail
I was wondering whether it is plain (a) stupidity, (b) ignorance, (c) arrogance, or any combination of these, that made you mail _three_ mailing lists with the same question, none of them being the qmail-scanner mailing list. Don't do that again. Ever. or what? you'll sue me, dumbass?! did i insult you intelligence?! or it's just pms?! now... ask me again... politely.

Dear Mr. Mintchev, Will you be so kind as to enlighten me as to which of these personality disorders apply to you? (a) Stupidity (b) Ignorance (c) Arrogance (d) All of the above ok. since you asked politely - here is my answer: b. if i wasn't ignorant on the issues i was asking about i wouldn;t post on all of 3 lists together. since my question doesn;t really apply directly to the qmail-scanner list - like you suggest (d) - i posted on the tree lists that kinda relates to. politely. and respectfully. because all of those softwares are working together and interact directly i was hoping to get some advice on the issue from people on any of the 3 lists that had to deal with the same or similar combination/issue before. if you don't like it - don't reply. but don't give me orders (c) or insulting me with your retarded comments (d) on what made me post on all the 3 lists which i've been using before with relative success. nobody else did. even if you wrote all of those 3 things together in a day you are still not qualified to give me any orders #EOF (end of flame) indeed
[vchkpw] spamd vpopmail qmail
hi all.. i was wondering if i can use the qmail-scanner (with qmailqueue from SPAMCONTROL) for tagging mail using spamd on smtp level and then on delivery - using vpopmail - scanning the messages that weren't tagged using individual vpopmail users preference files.. i guess the biggest problem is that the qmail-scanner wants spamd to run as qscand and on delivery it would have to be under vpopmail. maybe i can make it run under vpopmail?! the other thing i'm trying to figure out is that currently the way vpopmail is set up to call spamd is through a .mailfilter file for each user. that's ok but when using qmailadmin to generate vacation files/directory it's just looping because of the .qmail file in the virtual user directory. is there a better way to call spamd from within vpopmail so that the .qmail files in each users directory are respected... any input on these issues will be seriously appreciated... thanks...

hi all.. i have noticed in recent days that some vpopmail accounts that have temporary vacation autoresponses set make the autorespond dump core. the reason is segmentation fault according to gdb... was wondering what would make autorespond to dump core. the autoresponds are set up through qmailadmin and not all of them crash it. this is the gdb output: Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault. #0 0x280c2814 in ?? Re: [vchkpw] vacation .qmail in the wrong place?!
vdelivermail is part of vpopmail, deliverquota is part of maildrop. The older versions of vdelivermail did not correctly update the quota when reading .qmail files in the users home dir. That seems to be fixed in 5.4.12 hi Rick... thanks for sticking with this... right now i have a test set up like this: in the domain dir i have .qmail-default that call sthe mailfilter script with |maildrop mailfilter mailfilter checks if there is a .mailfilter in the individual user's directory and uses that one instead of the default. for the purpose of this test i switched vdeliverquota to vdelivermail in either mailfilter. i get the mail in the mailbox but the vacation message is not sent. .qmail is not being read... are you saying that if i upgrade to 5.4.12 this will work? i guess i'd have to upgrade qmailadmin too after that Regards, Rick --
[vchkpw] vacation .qmail in the wrong place?!
hi all using qmailadmin to create vacation messages. a .qmail file for the vacation message is created in the users directory. that one is not being read by vdelivermail because there is a .qmail-default in each domain's directory. i manually have to move the .qmail one level up to .qmail-vacation_user in order for the vacation message to work... i don't want to move it manually. i don't know when users would like to go on vacation. it doesn't work for them until they call me... on this machine versions are like: qmailadmin 1.2.0 vpopmail 5.4.0 i know both have newer versions.. is this taken care of in the newer versions? thanks... --
Re: [vchkpw] vacation .qmail in the wrong place?!
vdelivermail will read the .qmail file in the users directory. You should not need to move anything. You might need to upgrade your vpopmail version though. it doesn't... all domains use maildrop in .qmail-default like: |maildrop mailfilter and the relevant lines in the mailfilter: xfilter /usr/bin/deliverquota $VHOME/Maildir i guess then deliverquota doesn't read the .qmail file... copy is kept but vacation hasn't been used. there is nothing in the maillog about sending mail back either Regards, Rick --
Re: [vchkpw] vacation .qmail in the wrong place?!
Yes, vdelivermail does read the maildirsize file and enforces quotas. You may need to upgrade to 5.4.12 to get all the latest fixes though. what will be the difference between vdelivermail and vdeliverquota then? and i did change to vdelivermail in the maildrop scripts. still doesn't work... does that mean that in vpopmail 5.4.0 vdelivermail in a maildrop script doesn't read the .email files in the user directory, but it does in the latest version? thanks... Regards, Rick --

Re: [vchkpw] smtp after pop
1. how come i'm able to use the same smtp on two different machines on the home network without having to authenticate for smtp on the imap account? It is possible that you're using a NAT router/gateway between your home network and your ISP? If so, the NAT address on the WAN side of your router serves both of your home computers. That address is the one that is known to the Qmail/Vpopmail server, not the different internal addresses. To the mail server, you're coming from the same address. thanks Eric. that was what i was suggesting in my third question. i'd think that the vpopmail sessions are id-ed on mac numbers. isn't it true then that if i go to a public space where i use my laptop to retrieve my mail everybody in that space will be able to use my smtp server - if they knew which is it - to send their mail and maybe spam? To see ensure that your mail relay filters are working, go here: http://www.abuse.net/relay.html and follow the instructions for the anonymous test. great i got this.. blinking: THIS MAY OR MAY NOT MEAN THAT IT'S AN OPEN RELAY. that doesn't really resolve it for me is that because of qmail first accepting the message and then checking against the rcpthosts. what about the tcp rules in tcp.smtp.db? -- Eric Ziegast --
