[videoblogging] Re: Black Woman YouTube Vlogger Murdered by Stalker

2009-04-15 Thread Gena
You know I think there are U.S. laws about using online networks to promote
hate speech. The problem is defining hate speech. I have seen on both sides of
the political spectrum in YT that the comments get beyond vicious in their
responses to each other.

Just take a look at what some of the comments are saying about Susan Boyle?

There is no dialog, there is Springer-speak, it is insecure young men jocking
for attention. There is also the push out of original content for the
equivalent of online DVR. That is why Hulu is kicking butt.

There will be a solution to this problem. Economics are going to force it to
come to pass. Having this happen is too risky for Google to allow the
possibility to continue. If they are smart they will act now.

Because the next time it will be a young white women full of life that someone
will stalk and kill. And FOX, Nancy Grace and every tabloid will run to the
bank with it.

YouTube will have to move to a model of corporate/PR/creative advertising and
safe source videos. Citizens, unless it is truly a breaking news story, will be
pushed out.

I don't want that to happen but unless they hire 24/7 moderators and have a
mechanism for knocking down the vile level in the comments I don't see they
would have a choice.

It is past time for YouTube to evolve.

FW to USB cables/adapters will not work reliably for capturing DV.
If you are going to work with DV from tape, you need firewire for capture,
and ideally firewire or an esata card and drive for your media drive.

I don't know if this is gonna work but I would do some investigation. A
firewire to USB adapter cable. (sorry if this has already been mentioned)
Here's a starting point.

And yes Apple dropping firewire on low end macs blows goats... that's a
technical term.

Agreed - they won't mind you taking it back. I know people who have
bought an old model a week before a new one is released, and have
taken the old one back a week later and swapped it for the new one.
You have your consumer rights... and your right is to capture your
tape direct to your computer ;)
Also, why would you want to spend hundreds of dollars on an old, used
machine so that you can do an unnecessarily slow and complicated
capture and file transfer process? Just because the machine you
bought smells new. That's just weird, isn't it? Better to spend that
money on a better new machine, no?

Apple's heartwarming policy of differentiation between products
 means
they killed Firewire in the standard Macbooks to force you to go
 Pro
if you're a Firewire user, because they think you're more likely
 to be
an advanced or Pro user and therefore more likely to spend the
 extra
 cash.
Take it back and get either a Macbook Pro or a White Macbook - I
 think
they still have the older Macbook model available which has
 Firewire.
The Macbook pro doesn't have a Firewire 800, though, only 400 - so
 if
you get that, you'd have to also get a 9 pin FW800 to 4 pin DV
 camera
 cable.

2009-04-15 Thread J. N. P.
Hi Randy,

the firewire target mode was lost on the macbook (non pro and non
white), because there is no equivalent for that on usb 2.0.

if you still want to use your XL1 and ingest video without the
firewire, you could also think of another way... sony sells this device:
http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-HVRMRC1K/
and the must be others selling similar stuff, but its expensive
normally. :(

the great thing about it is that it records to SD memory cards, at the
same time you record to tape, it can use DV or HDV formats. i think in
HDV this sony product don't work with the different Canon HDV (it has
to do with progressive / interlaced and 1080 / 720).
You probably in the end would use a USB 2.0 SD memory card reader and
you were done. and you could have the cassette tape as backup anyway.
it depends a lot on the kind of work you do with the camera.

its just a crazy idea. :)

Re: [videoblogging] work around for no fire wire?

2009-04-15 Thread J. N. P.
Hi!

I would like to add that presently the white macbook they are selling
has the same chipset/cpu than the new ones, because they renovated it.
so you just get stuck with the old design but get everything else and
the firewire (400) port.

http://theappleblog.com/2009/01/21/white-macbook-gets-nvidia-better-specs/

the new macbook pro only has the faster firewire in it (FW 800), but
as others said, you can have a cable to connect a FW800 port on the
computer to the XL1 or disks that have FW 400.

in the end if you need firewire either you go with the old design or
the macbook pro...
