I admit it -- I don't have my phone in a case; I have it in my
pocket. I did use a case for a while because of the issue with the
antenna but I didn't like the bulkiness of the case or the way it made
it hard to take the phone out of my pocket and decided that I'd just
rather learn to not put my fingers over the grooves where the antenna
is.

The iPhone is actually very robust. And the glass surface is very
tough. According to Jonathan Ive of Apple, speaking on the iPhone 4,
the glass is comparable in strength to sapphire crystal but about
thirty times harder than plastic.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorilla_Glass

There is a site that I really like called 'Will it blend
http://willitblend.com/
where they put various consumer items into a blender to see what
happens

On the iPhone (listed under Don't try this at home), they blend an
iPhone 4S and phone comes to pieces before the glass breaks

http://willitblend.com/videos/view/129

They also have an app for the iphone

(and yes, the site really does sell blenders)

I have the OtterBox Defender case on a 4S and scanning bar codes and other

With Digit-Eyes, I hold the phone about 6 inches from the package and it
doesn't take very long to find the code.

I have never gotten any bar code to work for me.  I guess I will have to be
super desperate to remove the phone from its case, can't imagine using it

Ted, my spouse noticed something recently. She thought there was a greenish
tent to her photos. She removed her phone from the case, and pictures came
out colored as they should. I don't think her case was green, but somehow it
 was affecting the photos.

I don't know if they are making the camera holes too small so there is some
reflection, etc., but you make a great point that people may consider using
the camera without a case for better results.

For kicks, I took my 4s out of its case, and things began to work like a

there has been an interface change since the last 2 updates on Navigon. the map
tab now has a main menu and doesn't display a usable map. I have had this
confirmed visually. there could be an invisible frame that neither I or my room
mates can access. prior to 2 updates ago, I could get a displayable map that I
could finger around and have nearby streets read to me. I cannot seem to do
that now.

I am going to try some other GPS apps but I am not holding out hope that I will
have any success.

as an aside, Sendero needs to release their full gps app. the lookaround
version is limited in such a fashion that it makes getting around difficult
(listing local points of interest and direction plus distance). I need
something that can give me turn-by-turn, read local streets around me, current
location, etc. so far, I have to use 5 different apps to get the functionality

Hi,
It was very helpful, and more or less what i thought. I think though that in
the classic version of MyWay you can use OpenStreetMap to plan your routs,
but this, judging by the experience i had using Voxtrek is very iffy at best
here in Sweden.

Thanks a lot for the explanation.

22 apr 2012 kl. 11:38 skrev Anne Robertson:

Hello Krister,

Ariadne tells you where you are, and if you select Start monitoring, it
updates you on your position as you walk. It also tells you as you
approach a favourite, but it doesn't tell you how to get to that
favourite.

MyWay Classic allows you to plan routes, including along paths that are
not shown on maps. So, if your route includes crossing a park or going
through a wood, MyWay will help you keep to your route, but you do have to
plot it yourself in the first place.

Navigon gives you turn-by-turn directions on routes shown on maps. It runs
in the background, making it possible to have Ariadne running in the
foreground.

So, if the area you're moving to is properly mapped by Navigon, you won't
need MyWay.

I hope this is a clear explanation of the differences between these apps.

Cheers,

Anne

question about syncing gmail with iPhone

2012-04-22 Thread alex wallis

Hi list,
I suspect this is probably a question that has come up lots on list, but
can't seem to find anything in the archives.
I use imap with my gmail account, I have this account checked for mmail
by both thunderbird and my iPhone.
My question is, how do I make the mail client on the iPhone download all
messages held on the gmail server?
at the moment, the client only seems to download new messages, and won't
download everything.
If I hit the get more messages button, it will download older mail, but
obviously this is a time consuming process, and I would rather get the
lot in one go. I seem to remember setting some value to download a
thousand messages, but the phone is still only grabbing new content.
Last question, is there a way to have thunderbird e mail synced
automatically to the iPhone?

Many thanks for any help,
Alex.

Re: Brailiant 40 disconnects from phone when on a call

2012-04-22 Thread David Chittenden
Hello,

Yes, all displays disconnect whenever the proximity sensor is activated
disabling the touch-screen. If you take the phone away from your face and it
switches to speakerphone, the braille display should reconnect. I suspect the
behaviour is the same with a bluetooth qwerty keyboard.

Just a question about editing texts/statuses/e-mails in vokul. I try to
delete a character in the text field but everytime the app hears the

delete the current message. This is driving me insane and I was wondering if
anyone knows how to work around this.

Re: need some help

2012-04-22 Thread Lois Butterfield
I just had to do that. They are having you set up new questions and
answers. You have to choose one question from each of the 3 sets and write
an answer. When you finish, there is an okay button.

I suppose if you ever have to change something again, they'll ask you one of
the questions.

Accessible stopwatch/timer app

2012-04-22 Thread Marc Rocheleau
Hi everyone,

I am looking for a specific type of timer/stopwatch app. I know that
the native clock application has both but there's a specific feature I
need. I'm looking for something that will go off like a timmer but
repeatedly... so say if I set it for one minute intervals, it'd go off
continuously every minute until I stopped/shut down the app, instead
of just once after a minute like the timer in the clock app.

Any suggestions would be grately appreciated. I wanted to try some
interval training and though this would be a good way to be accurate
while doing it. :)

around it is to use a head set, either bluetooth or wired, so when on a call

Re: anyone using a Wi-Fi Thermostat with an accessible app?

2012-04-22 Thread Frank Tom
Hello Brett,
My son has two of the new Nest thermostats. You can set the temperature
remotely and see what your house temperature is remotely, but that's about it.
When he comes to dinner tonight, I'll ask him if he has contacted the
manufacturer concernING VO ACCESSIBILITY.
SINCE the fellow who designed the thermostat is the same person who designed
the I Pod, it should be easy for him to make his app accessible.

Re: Voxer and handling users

2012-04-22 Thread Thomas Stivers
You cannot delete them all at once, but you can delete them one at a time. Open
each conversation and hit the speakerphone/handset on menu button in the top
right. A rather strange menu will open overlaying the screen. VO still detects
the screen behind the items if you are not exactly on top of one. The buttons
each show up as two controls because there is a picture and text below it which
voiceover treats separately. The delete chat button is the bottom right button
of the six buttons in the menu. There are two other buttons which say delete
chat as well, but the upper of these allows you to toggle alerts for an
individual conversation, and the other clears the screen of a conversation
window. I hope this is helpful.

Dear all.

There is an app for this comedy central show but as far as I could
understand from the description, it doesn't let you listen/watch the
shows.

The app keeps you updated with the schedule and various announcements. Is
there some way for me to listen to this show? I went through Hulu Plus
description and it doesn't mention comedy central shows. So, I understand
it

is of no help either.

If someone has managed to listen to this show, I will appreciate your

I tend to agree here. For some reason I'm always logged in as Ofelia21 and
a ton of channels are listed as testing and you can't play them at all or
at least I haven't been able to. Only a buck but a buck times a few hundred

A Question for My Way Classic Users

2012-04-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Listers,

I just finished my first real test run with the My Way Classic GPS App and I
am most impressed.

I have but two question:

1.
What does it mean when the iPhone vibrates as I travel along a route?

2.
After creating and saving a route, when I attempt to rename any points along
the way, I get an invalid latitude error message. As a result, all of my
waypoints, so far, are labeled as P1, P2, P3, etc.

So, what must I do to successfully rename waypoints?

Thank you for any help.

Mark

RE: Deleting music

2012-04-22 Thread Rose Combs
Absolutely not turned on, I use Voice-over always have, never even
considered using assistive touch.

I deleted the whole thing through the usage menu, then started over again,
forgetting that my normal ring tone was considered music, so was surprised
today when it rang with the Apple ring instead of the one I have the one
that is unlike anyone else has around me so I know it is mine. doing
transcription many of the doctors and others have iPhones and for a while I
was constantly reaching for mine because I was hearing that standard ring so
I fixed mine so it sounds different than anyone and for the very few who
wanted to know where I got it I said it was a secret so they won't go get it
also, people who are not around me can have it, I just don't want anyone I
might hear on dictation or anyone in my office to use the same one.

Re: Apple Store security questions - Was Re: need some help

2012-04-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
I was prompted to do this tonight. For what it's worth, I had an
easier time of doing this when I used a Bluetooth keyboard to move
around, It did take me 2 tries, but that was mainly because I first
entered an email address in the optional field and kept getting error
messages, then couldn't find a done/continue button, so I started the
process over. I finally got everything entered and all is well again.
Not sure why you can't use the same email address that is your Apple
ID, but oh well.

I'm afraid that you can't get around this. Everyone is being subjected to

when I was getting an app. The screens to do this are pretty easy and so
once you get past this, everything will be as it was before.

 Hope this helps.
