Yes, for example if it's a windows computer, it needs to be on and you
need to be logged in. If it goes to the logon screen because of the
screen saver, that is ok.

Music, but I will tell you about Audio Galaxy. First off, it's free.
Second, it doesn't have a 25,000 song limit like iTunes Match does.
Third, if your audio is comprised of many different formats such as mp3,
wma, ogg, wav, ETC, it's all playable with Audio Galaxy because it
re-encodes your music when it streams it to your device.

First the iTunes link to download the app.

Next the Audio Galaxy web site.
http://www.audiogalaxy.com

You have to sign up with Audio Galaxy and create an account. You can
make a stand alone account or you can link your Facebook account with it
and that creates your account. Once you do that, from your mac or
windows pc, you download the Audio Galaxy helper. This is a small
program which runs all the time from your machine. This means that your
computer must be online and logged in so that you can stream your audio
from anywhere. Once the helper is downloaded and installed it will by
default add the user account music folder to the list so that everything
you have there is available. If you want to add additional folders, you
need to right-click the helper from the system tray, and choose the
manage folders link. This opens a list of all your folders in the
standard Windows open dialog. Sorry Mac users, I don't know how to do
this from the Mac. Unfortunately for windows users, arrowing through the
folders doesn't give you keyboard access on checking and unchecking the
folders you want to select. However, at least with Window-Eyes users, if
you know how to use the mouse pointer, you can do this. If you are using
another screen reader, I don't know how to tell you the following.
Reading the steps for Window-Eyes users might help you do the equivalent
in your preferred screen reader though.

Assuming you are using the default layout of Window-Eyes, when the
folder selection dialog opens, use your regular arrows to navigate this
tree. Window-Eyes will tell you if the folder is checked, unchecked, or
partially checked. If it is partially checked, it means you can right
arrow the folder to see subfolders and one or more of those is checked.
Now to check or uncheck a folder to be excluded or included in Audio
Galaxy's folder list, do the following.

1. Arrow to the folder you want to add or remove.

2. Route the mouse pointer to the focus by pressing Insert-Numpad-Plus.

3. Press Numpad-5 to read the current line under the mouse to make sure
it reads out the folder you want to add or remove.

4. If it doesn't, use Numpad-8 or Numpad-2 to move the mouse up or down
a line at a time so you can reach the folder you want.

5. Once the mouse pointer is on the folder you want, press Numpad-4 or
Numpad-6 to move left or right by characters until you reach the first
character of the folder name. For example if the folder I want to add is
called Music Hits 2012 I would place the mouse pointer on the M of Music.

6. Here's the slightly tricky part. You have to move the mouse pointer
to the left a little to place it on the check box to toggle whether this
folder is included or not. If it's unchecked, it will be checked and
vice versa. To do this, press Control-Shift-Numpad-4

Hi, unfortunately each time you download the helper is generated, it is
with your own credentials. So this means that my helper won't work for you.

If you go to the site and it shows that your helper doesn't appear to be

Has anyone else experience this after the last update. If not, can someone
give me suggestions to remedy it other than removing it and reinstalling it?

Thanks in advance.

Pageonce - Was Re: Capital one app

2012-04-27 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Mark, yes that is correct. The link for it is below. Also note that you
can sign up with www.pageonce.com and you can get email notifications on
your upcoming bills. So it works as both a push notifications app on
your iOS device and as an email notifier. It is read-only access,
meaning that you give it your login information to your stuff, and it
simply reads the information and presents it to you. They have a Gold
service for paying your bills, but the cost is around $5 per month and I
already pay all my bills with either free bank bill pay services or with
mycheckfree.com which also doesn't cost me anything. What I really love
about this app is for example it tells me how much data I've used with
Comcast. As some may know, Comcast has placed a 250 GB monthly cap on
home accounts and the pageonce app tells me right away what the usage
data is. For the ATT Wireless portion, it tells me my minutes used and
data used as well. Sure, I can get this information from the real ATT
App, and if I want to do ATT only stuff, I still use that, but still,
pageonce is really neat for a centralized way to see what's up with your
finances.

The iTunes link is http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id285056092?mt=8

I hope this helps.

Re: The Possessed iPhone

Hi, this is one of those cases where turning off certain features of the
iPhone comes in handy for the middle of the night. I really wish Apple
would have provided a profiles scheduler so that you can set things to
be off or silent during specified hours or during a calendar meeting.
Unfortunately jailbreaking is the only solution if people want that
convenience. Maybe Apple will add something like this in the future.
After all, they included many features in iOS 5 which used to only be
available to jailbreakers.

details of iTunes Match or Google Music, but I will tell you
about Audio Galaxy. First off, it's free. Second, it doesn't
have a 25,000 song limit like iTunes Match does. Third, if your
audio is comprised of many different formats such as mp3, wma,
ogg, wav, ETC, it's all playable with Audio Galaxy because it
re-encodes your music when it streams it to your device.

First the iTunes link to download the app.

Next the Audio Galaxy web site.

 http://www.audiogalaxy.com

You have to sign up with Audio Galaxy and create an account.
You can make a stand alone account or you can link your
Facebook account with it and that creates your account. Once
you do that, from your mac or windows pc, you download the
Audio Galaxy helper. This is a small program which runs all the
time from your machine. This means that your computer must be
online and logged in so that you can stream your audio from
anywhere. Once the helper is downloaded and installed it will
by default add the user account music folder to the list so
that everything you have there is available. If you want to add
additional folders, you need to right-click the helper from the
system tray, and choose the manage folders link. This opens a
list of all your folders in the standard Windows open dialog.
Sorry Mac users, I don't know how to do this from the Mac.
Unfortunately for windows users, arrowing through the folders
doesn't give you keyboard access on checking and unchecking
the folders you want to select. However, at least with
Window-Eyes users, if you know how to use the mouse pointer,
you can do this. If you are using another screen reader, I
don't know how to tell you the following. Reading the steps for
Window-Eyes users might help you do the equivalent in your
 preferred screen reader though.

Assuming you are using the default layout of Window-Eyes, when
the folder selection dialog opens, use your regular arrows to
navigate this tree. Window-Eyes will tell you if the folder is
checked, unchecked, or partially checked. If it is partially
checked, it means you can right arrow the folder to see
subfolders and one or more of those is checked. Now to check or
uncheck a folder to be excluded or included in Audio

Re: Location Tracking

2012-04-27 Thread Wayne Merritt
Yes, I have found several apps that were tracking my location when I
did not want them to, such as AudioBoo, iBlink Radio, and various
other radio, GPS, transportation or other apps. I think (but don't
know for sure) that they track your location to provide better
services to you. For instance, iBlink Radio wants to know where you
are so you can get appropriate local radio results, etc. I would
definitely recommend looking through that list every so often to make
sure you approve all of the apps you want to track your location.
Also, going through the list of apps that can send push notifications
is a good idea too. Many apps that I have installed and which I use
are not turned on in the notification screen to send notifications to
me. I don't necessarily want my phone to keep going off every few
minutes whenever a new notification comes in, but that's just me. I
would think that if you had a lot of notifications going off that this
could drain the battery as well, perhaps not as much as the phone
spontaneously turning on, but still.

of those apps I'd downloaded but had not gotten around to ever launching. I
removed its permission to track my location but then removed it altogether.
Has anyone ever seen something like this where apps track your location
without even being in operation? I wonder how much of that may have been
 contributing to my battery issues.--Joe

Re: Blood Glucose Tracking

I simply write my blood sugar readings in a text note from the Notes
app. Perhaps not as versatile as an app that send results to the
printer, but it works for me.

 Subject: Blood Glucose Tracking

I never did hear back from anyone using the GlucoseMate app, so perhaps
people are using something else for tracking blood glucose readings,
 carbohydrates, etc.

I want to be able to print results to take to medical appointments.
GlucoseMate allows you to mail your record, but when received they are all
jumbled together, both columns and rows.

If anyone has any ideas how to resolve the current issue, that would be
optimal, so I can preserve the records I have kept thus far. But, if I have
to change applications, I would sure appreciate knowing what you find useful
and accessible. I looked at several over the weekend, but there are so
 many...

All help will be most appreciated!

 Eric

Re: Another Does Such a Thing Exist?

2012-04-27 Thread Wayne Merritt
The big thing about Status Report that I was not fond of is all of
your social network updates appear in 1 massive list. If I want to
read new posts from FB, then I'd like a separate list of just FB only
updates, instead of wading through both Twitter and FB. However, for
what it does, it does it well. I have chosen to only get FB updates in
Status Report and Twitter updates with TweetList.

many people have iOS and Android devices. Plus, these days, people
want to be mobile and not tied to their PC's. No news yet, though I
would expect one sometime this year. I don't have any inside info
here, just speculating, but it makes sense given the number of blind
people that use iOS. Also, when one does come out, I will replace the
24 GB of music on my phone with NLS books, and my next iPhone will be
a 64 GB model so I can really load it up with books!

Re: Status of possible NLS Bard app for the iPhone?

2012-04-27 Thread Wayne Merritt
It may be a case of being in the right place at the right time. I
would expect that some of the testers are probably librarians that
work at cooperating libraries. Other times, you may see an email on a
list such as this asking for testers. I would imagine that if you are
developing a big app that will likely be popular, like the NLS app,
you probably have a list of private testers and use them to test the
app.

Hi, this is one of those cases where turning off certain features of the
iPhone comes in handy for the middle of the night. I really wish Apple would
have provided a profiles scheduler so that you can set things to be off or
silent during specified hours or during a calendar meeting.
Unfortunately jailbreaking is the only solution if people want that
convenience. Maybe Apple will add something like this in the future.
After all, they included many features in iOS 5 which used to only be
available to jailbreakers.

Cursor Acting Weird!!!

Hello Anthony

I think I know what this might be as I also experienced this:

Sometimes, when typing or doing things around the screen with the apple

If you press the left and right cursor keys together, you will hear either:
Quick nav on or quick nav off. When you get stuck just try that.

Hope this helps.

is all of
your social network updates appear in 1 massive list. If

just FB only

However, for

The problem I gather is that when you plug the device in you loose speech

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good blue tooth or usb

Looking for something that is portable and is sold in a store so I can have
a look at it.

Thanks.

Horrible Experience with MLB At Bat

2012-04-27 Thread Eric SS
Not strictly access related, but I went to a pro ball game yesterday in
Cincinnati. This didn't occur to me beforehand, but when I tuned in the San
Francisco feed, the lag was almost 75 seconds. This was on 3G. They did not
have WIFI in the park.

Okay, I guess there is a lot going on there, so I can't fault the app too
much. So, I switched to the Cincinnati radio broadcast. And, for a baseball
game, they kept the 7-second delay in place. Real smart! What, they don't
trust their broadcasters or sponsors not to say poo-poo on air?

After a play, I waited the 7 seconds for the description, but that was
drowned out by the PA system with the next batter, etc.

Sheesh!

So, if you plan to enjoy a game at a ballpark, you may want to decide just
to enjoy sitting in uncomfortable seats in heat or cold or wet with very
loud people very apt to spill on you. It can be a wonderful experience!

Hi,

One thing you have to keep in mind, all streaming is generally going to be
far behind an actual radio broadcast of the same event.

RE: Horrible Experience with MLB At Bat

2012-04-27 Thread Eric SS
Fred, I guess I wasn't too clear when I said I switched to the Cincinnati
radio broadcast. I meant that I did switch to listening via radio, but they
maintained their usual 7-second delay.

Has anyone tried following the pitches? It is pretty neat those times when
listening to the broadcast is not desirable. I wonder how it works; how it
knows it was a screw ball or 4-seam fast ball, etc. It also has a delay, so
does not solve the issue of keeping up when at a live game or even when you
have the game on TV with someone watching.

Remember the days when they said turn down the television and listen to the
radio? I guess radio is so irrelevant these days...

RE: Question about Speedup Player Pro

2012-04-27 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi Nicki,
The XX-speed button would seem to be the control you want to use in order to
change the speed, but next to it is a slide control you can flick up or down
to actually do the job.
Counterintuitive and frustrating at first but it's a great app once you
learn to think illogically, smile.

Re: Resetting Phone for Siri, often lately

2012-04-27 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Tracey,

Well, I had similar issues for a few weeks with Siri. Yesterday, my phone
broke as the power switch malfunctioned. The phone was replaced, and at least
for now, Siri works better than it ever has. It's more responsive as it
responds to my requests immediately on a regular basis. I'm on Verizon, so I
don't begin to know what's going on here. I think my phone may have been
defective, as calls placed on speaker are much clear as well, but again my
theory may be wrong. Well, I'll enjoy Siri while she works properly.

 Traci,

This has been an issue for a while now. There was a thread not too long ago
where several have been experiencing the same thing.

 Best,

Subject: Resetting Phone for Siri, often lately

Does Siri seem off kilter to others lately? I'm curious if it is just a me
 thing. My phone, or Verizon?

It feels like I am needing to power off/on my phone more and more. Siri and
 dictating aren't responding as consistently.

 Curiously,
 Traci
