Finding out How much iCloud space each App Uses
Hi All, I have ios 6.01, and I'm trying to find out how much space each app uses on iCloud backup. I went to Settings, iCloud, Storage and Backup, Manage Storage, iPhone. It shows total size, but it doesn't tell me how much each app uses. I can only find out certain app like camera, not every app that's switched on for backup. I guess I can turn off each app and check the next backup, but that would take forever. I understand that the list has the app that uses the most space on the top, but it'd be cool to be able to find out exactly how much. I vaguely remember that VoiceOver told me how much space each app uses in previous ios. Is this bug on ios 6.01? Re: Fast Balance - Was Re: New HSBC APP
I think I found it by searching for HSBC in the App Store. It might be UK only of course though. I think it only came up with the name fast balance once you had downloaded, you know, one of those apps that changes its name annoyingly. It doesn't do much really, tells you how much you have, and gives you a few transactions I think, the last five. Apparently you can top up your phone with it, but I don't need to do that stuff never tried. The other annoying thing about it is, I have an HSBC credit card and I can't see how much I have on that. You can't do any transactions in anything or make any payments, but you can see what has come in and out of your bank very recently. To make it really worth while though, you have to check regularly, every two days maybe depending on the amount of action in your bank of course. RE: Trying to have itunes announce the number of songs in my library when I press insert 3 on my computer keyboard
Hi Anna, I know there shouldn't be a difference between the menus in iTunes here in Canada and the States. But I read in an article about turning on/showing the status bar and that you can do so by going to the View menu, but I also have no such option in my View menu. Jen is also in Canada so this is strange. Is it called Show Status Bar? What exactly is the wording and maybe you can let me know the 2 options just before or the one before and the one after. By the way, Jen, as a work-around you can find out how many songs you have if you tab into the list view of all songs. Are you using Jaws? If so Jaws should announce it as soon as you are in the list view, i.e. it will read the first song title and so on and at the end it will say 1 of xxx where xxx would be the total number of songs you have in your library. RE: Finding out How much iCloud space each App Uses
Hi James, You can go here to see how much data is used by each app you have installed: Settings General Usage At the top you see the storage space of your device, both what's free and what's used. Next you see how much is used by your apps, I believe this is in the order of most to least, e.g. for me Music shows up first with 25.8 Gigabytes, then Audible with 1.8 Gigabytes etc. You see I think 10 apps listed and then Show All Apps, double tap on it and you can swipe through all your apps. Below that is a heading iCloud and it also shows you total storage available, 5 Gigabyte if you haven't purchased more, then what's available and below that a Manage Storage button. Now here it will tell you how much space is used for Backups. After that you will hear James' iPhone, This iPhone (assuming that is what your iPhone is called). Double tap on that. Now at the top you find information about when your last backup was and how large it was, then you find Backup Options - Choose the data you want to back up. Below that it announces the size of the next backup and it is followed by a listing of some of your apps, after the last one there is once again the Show All Apps which if you double tap it does just that. In this list you only see if the app is on or off, i.e. if it's included in the iCloud backup (on) or not included (off). If you turn an app off the size of the Next Backup goes down as long as the app you turned off had data in it. I found that apps like Skype, Light Detector, ColorVisor and so on can be included in the backup, but turning them off makes more or less no difference because all that is being backup up is maybe some settings which take almost no space. Re: Help with iPad Mini
Hi stacy. This is an easy fix. Go into settings then general. Under general go into date and time. There's a button there that says set automatically and it's probably on, so toggle that to off. Now go down to time zone and set it to New Yourk which is the only East coast listing available. After you have done that, you can now set the adjust automatically toggle back to on and you should be good to go. You don't have to redo your Mini setup. Stacy, So sorry, you are on central time so in my previous message, I should have said to set the time zone to something that reflects central time. Re: Free ap for today: Ringtone Architect
You can get the exact position to start and stop from iTunes. I made numerous ring tones using iTunes and after I used my watch to time where I wanted to start and stop I discovered that if I pressed the space bar to pause the song where I wanted to start the ring tone and tabbed about 15 or so times it finally gets to a spot where it tells you exactly how far into the song you are. After making note of this I then pressed the space bar again to start the music and paused it again where I wanted the ring tone to end. Then tab, tab, tab, 15 times to get the exact elapsed time. and I think the beginning of most songs do not contain the “good parts” that I want in my ring tones. I found many different directions for making ring tones with iTunes and they don’t seem to involve much more fiddling than making them on the phone and then having to put them back on the computer before you can use them. You can play that 40 second portion of the song and, if you don’t like it, approximately figure out how many seconds into the song you want to start. If, for example, you think you want to start 6 seconds into the song, just change the start position to 6 seconds, the duration will still be 40 seconds so when you play your selection it will play from 6 seconds to 46 seconds. Then you may decide that you have to nudge the start position a bit more ahead or back to make it sound good and you can do that because each tap on the or symbol only moves the position by one tenth of a second. Once you have it where you want it you can do the same to the end position. If the song fades out in the middle of a word and you want to make it a couple of seconds shorter you can just move the end position back, in my example instead of from 6 to 46 seconds you may want to go from 7 to 44 seconds which will result in a ringtone that is 37 seconds long instead of the full 40 seconds you can have. Once you play around with it it’s really quite easy to do, it does require a lot of taps if you want to move the position by 8 or 10 seconds as you have to tap the or symbol ten times for each second, but if you split tap it’s pretty quick and it’s way more precise than using a slider. With that many tabs, try a Shift-Tab to see if backward scrolling through tab-stops is quicker. Hey all, I was wondering something with the braille displays and the devices they interact with. Who's decision is it when more functionality is added? Here's an example: Adding a command to switch between keyboards. Say if you had British English, American English, and emjoi keyboards, and you wanted to cycle through them. The braille command would be space bar dots 4 6. Is it Apple or the braille display manufacture who adds this in? Google Maps app
Hi all, I have downloaded the new Google Maps app for iphone and have given it a quick test run. Note: I am not going to give details on how to use this app this is best learned by playing with it. Like the Apple maps app spoken directions only work in driving mode. I tried to walk a route in driving mode, but the app took me about a half mile out of the way, opting for more car friendly streets than the most direct route. Many of the buttons are vaguely labeled, but i could figure out what their purpose was. I tried the app while riding in the car. It worked very well, giving options on routes and clear turn by turn directions. The voice in this app is very good. I have sent feedback via the app. Below is what I sent. I downloaded the Google Maps app and I have a few suggestions. I an visually impaired and use the voice over program to navigate the iPhone. The Google maps app does work with the voice over program, and worked well in driving mode. However, the walking mode is basically useless for a visually impaired user, which is ironic, considering that visually impaired users would utilize this feature more than any other demographic.. Giving the walking mode spoken turn by turn directions would be a great help to the visually impaired community. Also, having the buttons more clearly labeled would aid in user friendliness. Another suggestion would be to have the option to have every street spoken as it is walked by. This would give the visually impaired user assurance that they are on track, and also help them learn the neighborhood If you are interested in more input from me or other visually impaired iPhone users, do not hesitate to contact me at: cadean...@gmail.com. The Ocado mobile app.
Hi All, Just updated the ocado app and I find it not very accessible. I am really annoyed because I have done 3 shops on the mobile app and it was working perfectly well. Just updated the latest version and I am totally lost with it. Has anybody else tried this app at all and if you have, what do you make of it? I feel like I need to write a letter to them or something. I thought when things were updated there should be improvements in this case, they have gone backwards. I would appreciate any help or suggestions from any of you. Thanks in advance. take care all and a very merry Christmas. RE: Apple Products Braille dispays
Yes indeed, drop Apple's accessibility team a note if you want anything changed in Braille. They write both the driver, and the screenreader. Nice News App
Hi All, My Media Specialist told me I should take a look at an app called flipboard all one word. It is a news app that lets you choose the categories of news you want then presents you with the headlines. If you find one you want to read just double tap on it and it opens and can be read with VO. Flipboard is quite accessible. All the buttons work. There is also a guide that I haven't played with yet. Three finger swipe to move down a page works but the sound we are used to isn't there but the page does advance. There are buttons at the top of the screen and the bottom of the screen. I have to play with it a lot more but it looks promising. There is a sign in but you don't need it. I use the two finger swipe down to read an entire article. Have fun -Steve P.S. Flipboard is nice and you can link different accounts to it like your Facebook profile, Twitter and so on. It's supposed to be similar to a magazine so there's a big visual emphasis to it, but even then, it's still pretty accessible. I believe that there's a democast on how to use it with Voiceover out there on one of the technology blindcentric sites, but I forgot which one. It is a news app that lets you choose the categories of news you want then presents you with the headlines. If you find one you want to read just double tap on it and it opens and can be read with VO. Flipboard is quite accessible. All the buttons work. There is also a guide that I haven’t played with yet. Three finger swipe to move down a page works but the sound we are used to isn’t there but the page does advance. There are buttons at the top of the screen and the bottom of the screen. I have to play with it a lot more but it looks promising. There is a sign in but you don’t need it. I use the two finger swipe down to read an entire article. Have fun –Steve P.S. RE: Nice News App
No, but you have to understand the concept behind Flipboard. It's meant to look for sighted people like a page that you cam flip upwards and see the next page-like if you had a legal pad with the pages attached across the top and you flipped each page upwards to see the next one. The way to see the next story is to do a three-finger flick upwards from the bottom of the screen. Hope this helps.
