Hi Aman, Thanks for letting me know. I'll use zamzar and convert the mobi files. I used to use it to convert youtube videos to mp3. Pitty that feature is disabled on that site but I have other software to do that. I'll keep the epub and use them with voice dream and see how I go. Better watch your step, some people on this list don't like people talking about getting free stuff, or breaking the DRM on paid files. But to answer your question, it depends on the format. If it is a movie, it needs to be in the MP4 format. There are a few paid programs out there that do this. But it all depends on the os your using. On windows I use a program called movavi, not a miss spelled word there. And on the mac a lot of people like DVD remaster but it costs 50 bucks. Handbreak also does this, and it is free for both windows and mac. There is another program that removes incription for you, converts the file, in one process, and it is called mac DVD ripper PRO, it's 25 bucks, but does everything you need it too. Unable to Open Feed in Lire 1.9.3
Hello, everyone. As long as I have a list of only five feeds with Lire, I have no problems. However, if I add a sixth feed, I cannot open it with VoiceOver. Touching the button and double-tapping doesn't work, and neither does flicking right from the top of the screen or flicking left from the bottom of the screen. If I disable VoiceOver and then tap the button for the sixth feed, the feed article list is properly displayed. Another way I can conquer the problem is to add a seventh feed, but then, it is the seventh feed that refuses to open. In other words, the feed closest to the Refresh button is problematic. Hello, A quick search of this group came up with the two below: Paprika Shopi Paprika is the only one of these I have used, and it allows you to create meal plans and then generate a grocery list from those meals. I believe you can also just add items to the grocery list, without using the meal plan options, but I have not tried that. It is very accessible. Hi Ramy, You could use Dropbox if you have a Dropbox account and have Dropbox installed on your laptop and iPhone. However, doing this with iTunes is also easy, here is what you do: 1. I recommend you make a folder (you could make a subfolder in your Pictures folder) and call it iPhone or something like that. 2. Copy your photos into that folder (just the ones you want on your phone. 3. Open iTunes and make sure your iPhone is connected 4. Go to your device and tab until you get to the Photos radio button, it's the last radio button of the ones that start with Summary, Info, Apps etc. 5. Check Photos with the space bar, then tab 3 times and check Sync photos from 6. Tab 3 more times and you get to a radio button called All Folders, one more tab will be Selected Folders. I recommend checking Selected Folders. Tab one more time and check to include videos if you want to include videos. 7. Tab 2 more times where it says Albums List View. Here you now see a list of all subfolders in the Pictures folder on your laptop. Any subfolders you see and check and which have pictures in them will be synced to your iPhone and show up as Albums in your Photos app. 8. I am not having any issues with this update in using the .calendar command and having my calendar appointments inserted into the native calendar app. I gave 2 examples on how I wrote the enteries. If you need further help, you can write me off list. There is no need to edit what has been brailled on the phone. Remember, to use quotes before and after your arguments. HTH. Either one of the 2 options listed in her message work and are as straight forward as can be. In both cases you end up on a webpage with an edit field where you enter your email address, then there is a combo box with options where Subscribe is the first one and already selected in both cases. All you have to do after typing in your email is click on Subscribe. Hi all. I know a lot of you on here use Drop Box. I wanted to let everyone know about an accessible program that I found and use along with Drop Box. It's called Cloud Beats. I have all my music library on drop box and as most know, drop box does not have a good music player built in to it. This cloud beats program picks up where drop box leaves off. It connects to your drop box account on your phone and gives you a fully featured music player including playlists and bookmarks for audio books. They recently made the app completely voice over compatible. I am no way affiliated with this company but just want to share another good accessible application for the iPhone. It also connects to other type cloud services and not just drop box. If you want to read up on it, just do a search on the app store for cloud beats. These are arranged one on top of the other just as I put it below: Front Camera Back Camera No Camera Once again, you can find these by putting your finger in the middle of the screen and exploring or you can swipe left from Video which means you first get to No Camera, then you get to Back Camera and finally to Front Camera. Swipe left again and you once again get to the call timer. Now all you have to do is find which camera option you want and double tap on it. Once you do the menu with the camera choices goes away, if you switched to the Back camera and want the front camera or turn off the camera, then you have to first double tap on Video again to bring up the camera choices. Kindle for iOS Updated with In-App Sample Search and Downloads Juli CloverYesterday, 11:18 AM Amazon has updated its Kindleapp for iOS to version 3.9, adding a feature that allows users to search for book samples using the app's existing Library Search tool. Rather than simply searching through a user's library, the app now searches through Amazon's entire catalog of books and brings up samples that can be downloaded directly within the app. Though users can download in-app book samples to read, ebooks are still unable to be purchased within the app. While the Kindle app used to include a link that directed users to the Kindle Store for purchases, Amazon was forced to remove the feature two years ago when Apple implemented new In-App subscription rules thatbarred links to third party web stores. All Kindle purchases are still required to be made outside of the Kindle app, but the availability of sample books is a welcome perk for regular Kindle users. When a sample book has been read, instead of directing users to the Amazon website to purchase the book, the app sends an email with a link to the Kindle Store, allowing the company to skirt Apple's rules while directing traffic to the Amazon site. Amazon also recommends similar books, offering a wishlist, another sample, or an e-mail about the recommendation. Hello, Thanks for your answers. I find that, when I enter the hyphens in the dates, they are being transformed into hyphen followed by colon. This also happens when I enter phone numbers. Af After further testing here's what I found: If contractions are off, I cannot enter hyphens in numbers. Anything following the hyphen is treated like letters. I did reenter the number sign before the figures after the hyphen. With contractions on entering the number sign after the hyphen introduces an additional colon that confuses the format. However as you have helped me realise, with contractions on I can insert hyphens without reentering the number sign and all is well in this case. Hope this makes sense. Hi Again, I want to explain about the numeric indicator. When beginning to use the .calendar command, I would use a numeric indicator sign after the hyphen. However, this is not the correct usage of the numeric indicator sign. The numeric indicator sign is used at the beginning of a line. It is also used in front of a number. However, if you use a hyphen in between a string of numbers such as a date or a phone number, the numeric indicator sign is not used. If you enter a space between the date and the time, you need to add the numeric indicator first before brailleing the numbers. I hope this makes sense. HTH. Hi! iSpellChecker is a free app and totally accessible. The way it works is, you type in 1 pain and your text document shows up in another.When you spell check, word choices are offered and you double tap the one you want. When your finished with it, then you export what you've wrote to the email program, text app etc. I personally think it's better suited to documents rather then to texting and email. Pages app and spell check?
Hello everyone! Trying to use my iPad mini for education purposes. I was recommended Pages app to use as a word processor. I have found all my commonly used features in the pages except a spell checker. My sighted friend says that there is one feature where all misspelled are underlined or she is saying that there are just lines thingies underneath the word/words. Voiceover, however, does not seem to recognize it. Any suggestions? Any of you pages users, how do you use the spell-checker feature in pages equivalent to Microsoft word? It's like F7 thing for us Jaws users. Hope you know what I am talking about. Using iPad mini with latest IOS installed. I just bought pages so I am assuming it is the latest update. I didn't see anyone talking about getting anything free or breaking any DRM. Torrents are used to distribute a lot of material perfectly legally. I'm also not sure why anyone would think this is off topic for the list since it has to do with getting media on to your iDevice. I'd agree with Kliphton though. The idea I think would be to convert your DVD into a media format recognized by the iPhone and then using iTunes to transfer the media to your iDevice just like you would any other media. I am saying this because unless something changed in the last update, Skype always seemed to default to the front camera. Anyhow, it is very easy to change it from front to rear or vice versa or even to turn the camera off or, to turn it on if you start out as a voice call. Here is what you do: Once the call is connected to another Skype user, you have the End Call button across the bottom just above the home key. Just above the End Call button is a row of 4 buttons, you can explore by sliding your finger up just a bit from End Call or just find End Call and then swipe left. The buttons from left to right are: Video Call, Mute, Earpiece, Show Options If you swipe left from the End Call button, you will of course get to Show Options first, then Earpiece which, if you have a headset connected will say Headset, then swipe left again to get to Mute and finally to

$50 Canadian iTunes Gift cards for $40 at 7 11 - promo ends today
Hello Canadian List Members, I apologize that I didn't post this before, but I only learned about it this morning. 7 11 has a promotion on $50 itunes gift cards which ends today at Midnight and I assume it is Canada wide. I don't know if American 7 11 stores have it. The promotion is 20% off which means you get $10 off a $50 iTunes gift card paying only $40. I have only once come across a better promotion when Safeway had $50 itunes gift cards for $37 about a year and a half ago. I picked up 3 of them, $120 gives me $150 credit which means I can now buy the 3-year subscription for the Seeing eye GPS app and basically get it for $104 instead of $130. And, just for the fun of it, I briefly share how I found out about the promotion. Ever since the Seeing eye app came out I have been checking with Safeway, Shopper's Drug Mart and even asked friends in Vancouver to keep an eye on promotions at Costco or Best buy. This morning I stopped in at Shopper's Drug Mart to get a drink and one of the ladies who work there came up when I was at the till and said Hey, Sieghard, you asked about iTunes gift card promotions last week. I was at 7 11 last night and noticed they had this promo on their $50 cards. I called 7 11 and they confirmed that it was still on but this was the last day. Well, I guess it helps if you look like Brad Pitt when it comes to the ladies remembering who you are! OK, I was just joking, but it does help if you live in a town of 6,000 where you are the only blind guy with a very good looking 90 pound golden retriever/black lab guide dog. I prefer an app named AnyList. You can creat multiple lists of different types. The developer has made several improvements for those who use Voiceover, and has also committed to keeping Voiceover users in mind for future features and improvements. downcast error playing files
dear all. I heard many positive reviews about downcast. I am not having that great a time with this app. Most of the time I get media file playing error and the app is not able to play many of the downloaded files. It works fine for some of the episodes and with others it gives a media file error. these podcasts are from recognized sources. so, what could be hapapening and how can avoid these errors? I want to be able to download all the files on my ipod 4 and want to play them when I am traveling i.e. when there is no internet connection. I did a Google search on iSpellChecker and got no hits in the Apple Store as I normally do for available apps. I did get the following C_Net link which seemed the most promising: http://download.cnet.com/iSpellChecker/3000-2124_4-75466007.html The page said clicking download would take you to the iTunes Store. When I tried it, iTunes did open and presented a dialog box stating that this app was not currently available in the US Store. The C_Net link shows the developer as being Luis Solano. I don't know why Apple doesn't allow torrent apps, and in fact, I'm not sure Apple doesn't allow torrent aps. It isn't because torrents are illegal though. You can go into the App Store, double tap on the Updates tab and then double tap on the Purchased heading and then double tap on the app you're looking for. This will give you the information on the app, and I think you can find the link to the app in the iTunes store as well. Both my iPhone, and iPad mini, all buttons are notes by voice over in the mail app. You may want to try turning off your phone letting it sit for about 10 seconds and then turning it back on. Hi, Simply Yoga does a nice job of describing the poses in its yoga routines. All In Yoga has a lot of preset routines, and the degree of clarity varies; the Sun Salute one is pretty good, while some others aren't so great. It has really nice descriptions of individual poses, though, so you can listen to those. You can also make classes from those individually-described poses. My son arranged one; I think I could have done it, but I'm not positive. But if you did need help building the routine, you would be able to play it back afterward and hear nice, detailed descriptions. I have also tried Pocket Yoga. I needed help figuring out what a few of the poses were in the half-hour classes. I haven't used the longer classes. It's fully accessible, though. I'd love to hear of other good yoga apps if others have had good experiences with them. iSpellChecker is gone from the App Store, Was: Re: check for spelling mistakes, on iphone?
Hello DJ, Christopher and Alan, A google search for iSpellChecker on iTunes brought up an iTunes link. However, the link wants to open iTunes and when I allowed this, I got a message that the app was removed for the Canadian app store, but was available in the US App Store and I was asked if I wanted to switch stores to view details about the item. I clicked Yes and received a further message that the app was also no longer available in the US App Store. I then went back to my Google search results and found a post from an app review website which stated that this item had indeed been removed from the App Store and was no longer available. I did find the developer's name, Luis Solano, as well as a support email, ispellchecker+supp...@luissolano.com, so I guess you can always write to him and ask whether the app is gone for good or whether he will release another version of it. However, it was apparently a free app and released originally back in 2010. I think I saw a version number somewhere and it appears it was never updated, either. In short, Alan who has a copy of the app can of course use it as long as it works, everybody else is out of luck. The way it works is, you type in 1 pain and your text document shows up in another.When you spell check, word choices are offered and you double tap the one you want. In my area there are 6 of them along with their addresses and phone numbers etc. When I double click on the one I want, then I can view their menu.. However, the link wants to open iTunes and when I allowed this, I got a message that the app was removed for the Canadian app store, but was available in the US App Store and I was asked if I wanted to switch stores to view details about the item. I clicked Yes and received a further message that the app was also no longer available in the US App Store. I then went back to my Google search results and found a post from an app review website which stated that this item had indeed been removed from the App Store and was no longer available. I did find the developer's name, Luis Solano, as well as a support email, ispellchecker+supp...@luissolano.com, so I guess you can always write to him and ask whether the app is gone for good or whether he will release another version of it. However, it was apparently a free app and released originally back in 2010. I think I saw a version number somewhere and it appears it was never updated, either. In short, Alan who has a copy of the app can of course use it as long as it works, everybody else is out of luck. Hello friends, I had to reset and restore the Iphone and had taken the backup of my Iphone. But after restore I did not get my podcasts. Could they be in Itunes library? If so how do I get them? Hello Lee and Larry, Larry's suggestion is not the correct podcast feed for the Accessible World Tek Talk series. Instead, try: http://accessibleworld.org/taxonomy/term/16/all/feed I pulled this up by searching the mail archives using the link at the bottom of each post, then going to the text box and typing in from:Esther podcast feeds (without the quotes) and then pressing return, which brought up my post on how to find podcast feeds. Using apex as Braille display
Hi all, I haven't used a Braille display for a while now and decided, having just upgraded the apex, I would give it another go. However, I can't remember how to produce a full stop (Period) character. I thought it was lower E , but this does not work. I can't find it in the help! Anyone got an answer for me, please?
