Hello Dennis, you don't have to be jailbroken to go to a different company,
you just have to have a GSM operating phone. Which most companies are.
Verizon and Sprint are the only ones that are not so thought I would just
point that out. Just out of curiosity which company are you thinking of
going with?

Hi Dennis,

There was a very nice Podcast about how to Jailbreak on Applevis just last
week I think or maybe it was within the last 2 weeks. I recommend you go to
www.Applevis.com and check it out.

Just out of curiocity, what is your reason why you feel the need to
jailbreak?

got more information previously with various alerts whether they were

Has anyone else noticed this and if so could let me know when it happened?
If this is related to something I can correct with a setting, I'd love to

Hi Christopher,

You are correct in that Chrom and Firefox are truly multi-platform browsers,
however, you're a bit out of date on Safari and Windows. Apple discontinued
updating Safari for Windows in 2012 and a year later even stopped supporting
bookmark sync with Safari in the iCloud Control Panel. See this link for

A Tip For Poor Spellers

2014-05-27 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi all,

Some of you will have thought of this before, but I'm passing it along
in the hope that it helps a couple of you out.

I'm dyslexic, which for me means that my spelling generally leaves a
lot to be desired although looking back at some of my previous
writings I'm getting better.

When trying to find the spelling of a word, I sometimes find that
typing my best effort into Google will give me the correct spelling,
although this isn't always the case - iOS auto correction doesn't
usually help in these situations either. For example, I was recently
trying to find the spelling for adage. I typed a d i d g e into Google
and I got results about an Adidge family & took this to assume that
the spelling wasn't correct.
I then tried saying adage to dictation and low and behold, the correct
spelling (a d a g e) was provided. This was the first time I tried
this approach but I'll be using it a lot more in the future when my
best guess at the spelling is so far out that even Google doesn't know
what I'm talking about.

Hope this is of help to someone.

Cheers,
Ben.

RE: Question about iTune and iCloud

2014-05-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I think Rina is talking about the iCloud Control Panel and that she
downloaded and installed it on her computer along with iTunes.

Rina, I would use iCloud Control Panel to sync Contacts with Outlook on your
computer. This way Contacts will be uploaded to iCloud and both Outlook and
your iPhone will sync to that information. Think of the iCloud Control Panel
as the connection between the Contacts in your iCloud and Outlook.

Sieghard

Hello Rena,

iTunes is software that runs on your computer. It includes a player that can
play music, videos, and audiobooks. It allows you to make digital copies of
your CDs. It lets you arrange tracks into playlists. It includes a store
that lets you buy music, videos, audiobooks, and apps for an iPhone and
other iOS devices. It lets you subscribe to podcasts. You can also use it to
get content onto an iPHone and back up your iPhone.

iCloud is not an app on your phone or computer. Instead, it is a service
that lets you back up and synchronize information. You can use it to back up
your phone. If you sync information on your computer and iPHone with it, it
will keep that information synchronized. So if you change a contact in one
place, it will change it in both. The same is true for calendar events,
bookmarks, and more. If you buy content from iTunes, it lets you download
that content on all your devices that are synced with iCloud.

I hope that helps.

Best,
Anna

hi,

This might be late but, if you don't wanna use iCloud you could always goto
said bookmark then double tap the shair button and you can send a message to
your ipad I suppose tap the link on your iPad and just set the book mark up on
your iPad. Sounds kinda round about to me but, it would work.

If you sync both your iPhone and your iPad with your PC or Mac then I would
think you could do this through iTunes. Last I knew, Safari wasn't accessible
on Windows, so if you have a PC and not a Mac, then I'm not sure how well this
would work. Here's an article on how to do this with a Mac
http://www.maciverse.com/sync-safari-bookmarks-to-your-ipad.html

I'm not trying to talk anyone into using iCloud, I don't use it myself, but
this is exactly why such cloud services exist, namely to have content
consistent between separate devices. You can configure iCloud, so if you don't
want to use it for anything else, you could still use it to sync your Safari
data.

Re: Question about iTune and iCloud

2014-05-27 Thread Teresa Cochran
Itunes and iCloud work together. iTunes plays music and will let you sync some
things to your computer. icloud is a server that will let you sync to it. It is
online. You can put encrypted backups of iPod onto your computer. You can also
put backups on iCloud, but they won't be encrypted. This means that if you use
iCloud to restore your phone, you'll have to reenter some passwords.

As for contacts, I'm not sure if you can back those up onto your computer
anymore with iTunes. Yu can with iCloud, though.

Well, if you set two languages in the rotor, turn the rotor to language.
Single-finger vertical flick to your language rather than default language and
VO will only speak text in your language.

Just add US English to your language rotor and flick to it when VO starts
speaking in another tongue. Easy fix.

The automatic language switching is by design and is part of VoiceOver.
If you use the default language of your choosing and there is text written
in a different language VoiceOver will automatically switch to that
language. You cannot turn this on or off I'm afraid.

Re: Question about iTune and iCloud

2014-05-27 Thread gracewellness
I'm still a little confused. The other day when I updated iTune, iCloud
asked to be installed, so I have both installed in my pc. I have the
impression that both do similar things.
I used iTune to add contacts to the phone using Outlook. If for instance, I
lose the contacts in my phone, can I backup the contacts from iTune?

Or do I need to to have the contacts in iCloud?
Thank you,

Hello Rena,

iTunes is software that runs on your computer.

Best,
Anna

Hi Todd,

That depends a lot on what you mean by "work with." I use the FB app
on my iPhone with my focus 14 display and find most things are doable.
The way FB constantly changes you really have to have patience to
accomplish certain functions, but mostly I find FB is more usable on
the iPhone than on the laptop.

I hope that helps.

I have noticed that voiceover reads a text message from certain people with a
different language. When I read the text message word by word, it does read it
properly. As far as logging out of Facebook, you must go to the more tab and
swipe on the way to the very bottom it says logout.

Re: Automatic language switching was Re: A few facebook questions regarding the native facebook appg

2014-05-27 Thread Jen Colley
But some of the status updates are in English. Voice over just reads them
strangely because if I go on my computer and look, all is normal.
That's what I don't understand. This must be a new feature because it
wasn't like this in previous versions.

The automatic language switching is by design and is part of VoiceOver.
If you use the default language of your choosing and there is text

I don’t have any other language set for it to do this.

Also, when you select most recent, it gives you so many statuses in order and

RE: Alternative browsers on iPhone

2014-05-27 Thread Brett
Hi,

I doubt it. I have several browsers here and all exhibit the same behaviour.
I do believe this is an iOS bug that occurs when you scroll with VoiceOver
to something that is off-screen. For Example when navigating by headings,
VoiceOver will read the next heading you flick too, but then focus will jump
back to where you originally began navigating from.

I have reported this to Apple accessibility, but since the bug has been
there for at least the last two updates, it would be great if others who are
seeing this also report it to apple. More people reporting the issue will
hopefully give it a higher priority.

Cheers,
Brett.

Hi all
I tried Safari with the marks and Spencers website and VoiceOver kept
jumping all over the place. Would Chrome or another browser I tried
Instabrowser solve this problem? If so I'll go ahead and install
Instabrowser on my iPhone since I have Chrome already. I'll also install
Chrome and Instabrowser on my iPad. Any comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Has anyone had luck with alternative browsers? I tried using Google

get the address bar to show up on that browser.
