Re: Bluetooth speakers

2014-07-13 Thread Gmail
You could also try a pair of logitech UE Booms. If you get two of them, you can
use an app produced by the company to pair both of them and have stereo output.
I haven't done this yet, although I have one speaker. I plan to buy another
when money affords. They're normally $200, but you can find them on eBay for a
bit cheaper. The seller I bought mine from, who is based in Canada, is called
something like North Electronics. The speaker arrived on time and undamaged, so
I would do business with the seller again. I'll post the sellers name once I
find it.

 Dear Reader,

At BAUM we are preparing step-by-step the introduction of VarioUltra 20 and
 VarioUltra
40, BAUM’s new ultra-cool braille display with note taking functionality for
 blind and
 visually impaired persons.

VarioUltra is a brand new refreshable braille solution from BAUM and a
 VarioUltra 20
will be shown at the upcoming SightVillage Birmingham show 15 and 16 July.
First deliveries will start in September / October 2014.

If you are intending to come and visit SightVillage exhibition in
 Birmingham, we like
to invite you to visit the booth of our Distributor Pamtrad Customs Ltd.,
 where we will
have the VarioUltra 20 in our booth.
We will also show some existing models of BAUM braille displays and a
 Pronto! 18
 notetaker.

 Here’s why VarioUltra matters:

 · VarioUltra is the world’s first and only braille device that
 supports connectivity
with up to 5 devices, simultaneously. So unlike other solutions that require

you to constantly connect and disconnect, VarioUltra lets you stay connected

all the time. Switching between your devices is achieved quickly via a
 keyboard command.

 · VarioUltra is offered with a choice of 20 or 40 braille cells;
 both models come
with integrated cursor routing, and a comfortable 8-key braille keyboard.

 · VarioUltra is not just the world’s most connectable braille
 display; it is also a
powerful note taker, with a suite of productivity apps that includes, among
 other things:
Editor/word processor for working with DOC and DOCX files
Spreadsheet viewer for working with XLS and XLSX files
 PDF viewer
 Scientific calculator
 File manager
 BRF reader

 · VarioUltra is very light. Thanks in part to its brushed, annodized
 aluminium
construction, VarioUltra 40 weighs 530 g and the 20-cell model weighs
 only 320 g.

 · VarioUltra is designed like no other. Whether it’s the crisp
 braille cells that
users report as feeling almost paper-like, or the amazing keyboard that is
whisper quiet and feels great as you type, VarioUltra is Tactile Nirvana!
 It’s that good.

 · VarioUltra: this is what a braille display is meant to be.

Sonos multi-room Wireless music system was: Bluetooth speakers

2014-07-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi List,

For those who are in the market for a good speaker/boombox, I thought I
remind people again about the Sonos multi-room wireless music system. I feel
that their offering is superior to most everything else because what they
offer is more than a Bluetooth or Airplay speaker. Sonos doesn't natively
support Airplay, but one can Airplay enable a Sonos system by hooking an
Airport Express up to one of the players via the 3.5mm audio out on the
Airport Express. Basically the Airport Express is just a source and if you
Airplay to it you can access this from any Sonos player in your house.

Currently Sonos makes 7 different players:

1. Connect: a small box which can be connected to an existing receiver via
Optical Digital, Coax Digital or analog RCA.
The Connect also has 1 set of RCA inputs which let's you hook up a CD
player, portable player like a VictorReader Stream, a laptop etc. Anything
that has a 3.5mm or RCA output.

2. Connect Amp: This is similar to a Connect except that it has an
integrated 110 Watt Class D amplifier (55 Watts per channel). It also has
the RCA input as well as an RCA output for hooking up a conventional powered
subwover.
Furthermore there are regular speaker terminals like you would find on any
receiver or amplifier and with a good set of speakers the Connect Amp sounds
fantastic, well, basically as good as your speakers; the amplifier is of
very good quality.

3. Play 5: This is their first and top of the line portable boombox type
player. It has 5 separate Class D amplifiers and speakers in a traditional
boombox style player.

4. Play 3: a smaller version of the Play 5, I don't have one of those so
can't say anything about it from my own experience.

5. Play 1: yet a smaller and more economical portable player, once again I
only own a Play 5 and a few Connect and Connect Amp players and have no
experience with it. I believe both the Play 1 and Play 3 can be used as a
pair for stereo.

6. Playbar: A long speaker, actually multiple speakers, designed to sit
under a TV for surround sound. This can be used in conjunction with Play 1
or Play 3 units to create a wireless system with front and rear speakers.

7. Sonos Sub: This is a wireless subwover which works seamlessly with the
Connect Amp, the Playbar and I think the Play 5.

What I like about Sonos is the versatility and the fact that you can expand
the system by adding any of the zone players into the mix.

The Sonos system requires an internet connection and you can achieve this
either by hooking up one of the players to your router (they all have
Ethernet network ports) or, if you want the freedom to move the player
around, you can get the ZoneBridge for I think $80. It connects to your
router and creates the network the Sonos system uses.

You can then play any internet radio station you would find in apps like
Tune In or Ootunes and Sonos supports just about every music service there
is such as Sirius/XM, Spotify, Rhapsody and many many more.

Your entire Sonos system can be controlled either from the iPhone app (of
course this also works on an iPod Touch and iPad), they have an Android
controller as well as controllers for the PC and Mac. The iOS app has
recently undergone some major updates and while it was quite accessible and
very useable before, it's now near perfect and a joy to use.
The desktop controller for the PC works fine with Jaws and I can't speak for
Android or the Mac.

I am sure there are many good speakers out there but most of them are mostly
just that, speakers. Sonos goes beyond that by creating a music system which
is more than just a speaker because it works seamlessly across an entire
large house if you wish, you could have a dozen of their various players
from the portable ones to the Connect or Connect Amp + a Playbar with a few
Play 3 players for front and rear speakers and another Sonos Sub for a
surround sound system.

Yes, I know, this can get pretty expensive, but I just wanted to show that a
Sonos system can be as little as $250 or $300 or as much as many thousands
depending on how big your house is and whether you want music in every room.
You can, of course, play different stuff on each player or put them all in
party mode so that every player is synchronized and plays the same.

Sonos also continues to release new product and I wouldn't be surprised if
one of their next releases would be either a set of high-end headphones
which of course would connect to the Sonos system or maybe a small headphone
amplifier one could carry around or clip to the belt for use with whichever
headphones you want to use.

Lastly I want to mention that they have excellent technical support, most of
their tech support guys know that there are blind users out there who use
their product and they won't ask stupid questions when you tell them you are
a Jaws or Voiceover user.

Anybody who wants more info can check out www.sonos.com and if I can answer
any questions I'd be happy to try, just email me directly

When I first got my 5S I read somewhere that the recognition is more
successful if you scan, for example, your right thumb on 2 or 3 of the
available 5 spots. I did this and just as with you it worked well for
a bit and then it got worse. After the 7.1 update which was supposed
to bring improved recognition it actually got worse for me. Then at
one point I decided I would delete all my prints again and start over.
I did this and set up my right thumb just on the first fingerprint
spot. Ever since this my recognition rate is I would say very close to
100% and also much faster. I think having scanned my thumb 3 times on
different spots just caused the processor to do unnecessary
calculations and it apparently did more harm than good. I also found
that the success rate is much better if you don't use the very tip of
your finger but use the pad of your finger sort of half way between
the fingertip and the first joint. I only use the fingertip when it asks
you to scan the edges of your finger.
Like I said, I couldn't be happier now, it's fast and works absolutely
fantastically with the only exception being when I just done a bunch
of woodworking and I might have little cuts on my finger, glue residue
or stuff like that, but that's to be expected.

 Sieghard

Hi,
From what i've heard, and remember this is just what i've heard from a friend
who's a mac- and Sonos owner, and this makes me a bit hesitant to the system,
only the IPhone- and the Android apps are accessible. The Mac controler
doesn't work at all from what i've gathered. Maybe i'm wrong and in that case,
please correct me as i'm actually thinking of getting a sonos system when and
if i ever can afford it. The reason why i'm hesitant though is that if only
say the phone app is accessible and you have the Sonos as your only source of

RE: Sonos multi-room Wireless music system was: Bluetooth speakers

2014-07-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Krister,

I have had my Sonos system for 4 years and for all these years the app was
useable with a few areas where improvements would have been nice. Some of
these seemed simple, e.g. the labelling of some buttons, but Sonos seemed to
ignore repeated requests for accessibility improvements. Neil Barnfather as
well as myself continued to impress upon them that they really needed to
make accessibility a priority and this finally occurred several months ago.
I first received an invitation to Beta test and once again the first Betas
seemed little improved. Then they came out with a major release which
totally changed the app. Accessibility was apparently given a lot of
consideration as everything in the app is beautifully accessible now. I feel
that Sonos has made a commitment with respect to accessibility and
personally am not very worried at all that suddenly they release a version
which makes the app completely inaccessible again.

I will check with respect to Mac accessibility, as I said, the Windows
controller works just fine with Jaws, one of the few things I can think of
right now which is not accessible is the information as to what is playing.
For example, if I play a particular radio station I can see in the app on my
iPhone who the artist is and the song title. I have not figured out a way to
do this on the PC although I haven't spend a lot of time checking since
mostly I just find music and play it. Even on my iPhone I rarely look at
this information, but of course for others this might be more important.
Basically when you use the app with Jaws you have to use the tab key to tab
through the various controls similar to how you tab around in iTunes. You
then use enter or the arrow keys to expand menus or select something and if
you check the screen with the Jaws cursor it reads absolutely nothing just
as it doesn't really read anything useful in iTunes or how in Firefox you
can't read the screen with the Jaws cursor. But it works well with the tab,
enter and arrow keys, it would be nice if Sonos was able to enable keyboard
shortcuts for some stuff, but the app is fairly simple so it's OK.

As I said, I'll check with their tech support about the accessibility of the
Mac app and let you know what they say. Maybe in the meantime a Mac user who
also has a Sonos system can contribute something more. I haven't seen Neil
post anything for some time, but I'm pretty sure he's a heavy Mac user and I
also know he has a lot of Sonos players.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi, all,

I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem, which acts like a bug to me.
When using my Braille display or even occasionally my bluetooth keyboard, if
I go to the search iPod field and type something, I get endless
repetitions of a random key, and I have to reload Voiceover. This doesn't
happen with the onscreen keyboard. Does anyone else notice this?

Re: Within Pulse2 versus Fitbit Flex monitoring and tracking devices

2014-07-13 Thread Joanne Chua
Hi,
I'm considering the fitbit series a little while now and did some intensive
readings and reviews about the different products within the fitbit range.
Most reviews and readings suggest that fitbit One will be a better, and more
accurate tracker compare to Fitbit Flex. With Fitbit Flex, apparently it will
consider your hand movement as actual steps. E.g. if you are talking to someone
sitting down, but your hand is moving while you are talking, the Fitbit Flex
might consider you as taking steps.
Hope this help

Re: Text Grabber Not Capturing The OCR With The StandScan Pro

2014-07-13 Thread Sandratomkins
Hi Eileen,
Obvious things first: are the lights on? Are you using mains or battery for the
lights and, if the latter, do you have the 12 V battery supply? Next,
positioning the phone is crucial! I presume you have the stickers that came
with the stand Scan Pro, these are useful for positioning the phone correctly
every time. I did kind of cheat with mine, I got my partner to check on the
best position before applying the stickers. However, I know that other people
have managed this without any sighted help. Once you have your stickers in
place, the lights on, you should be good to go! Because I have a case that is
easily removed, I tend to take the phone out of it for best results. Finally,
it is also worth buying Prizmo. Sometimes, one or other of these apps has
problems or, perhaps, a faulty update, in which case, you will have an
alternative.

HTH and I hope you will keep us posted as to your progress,
Sandy

Factory Reset, Was Re: Keyboard Repeats in Spotlight Search

2014-07-13 Thread Teresa Cochran
It hasn't happened to me at all until recently with my iPod 5G. It used to
happen with all text fields on my iPod 4G.

As fr resetting, you can choose to reset whatever you want to. There's a list
of several things to choose when you open that dialog. However, if you do the
full reset you might have more of a chance of eradicating the problem. The
factory reset restores your device to the way it was when it came out of the
box: no user-added settings or apps at all. If you have a backup either with
iTunes or iCloud (or both) then yu could choose in the setup process to restore
from the backup. I personally would try that, since you would get your data and
folders back, and see if the problem gets fixed anyway.
Just after your reset, try triple-click-home and see if VO switches on, or ask
Siri to turn it on for you.
If you don't restore from a backup, you could always add apps from the
purchases section of the app store, which lists all of your purchased apps.
Then you could download a few at a time and monitor any changes. In my case,
I've only been experiencing it in the spotlight search iPod.

RE: Keyboard Repeats in Spotlight Search

2014-07-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Haya,

If you want to do a complete factory reset you have 2 choices:

1. After the reset you can choose to set up your device as a new device. If
you do this you will have to redo everything, redownload your apps, setup
any mail accounts you have, sign in to any apps you have and there is a
possibility that you may loose data inside apps unless said apps back up to
iCloud or their own cloud. You will also have to resync any media such as
music, tones etc.

2. Do the reset and select to restore from a backup instead of setting up as
a new device. This of course means that you have to backup first. I don't
know if you backup using iTunes or iCloud or both. However, if you are OK to
use iTunes which for some reason some people avoid like the plague, I highly
recommend that you do an encrypted backup with iTunes and then restore from
iTunes by going to your device and tab until you get to Restore and then
activate it. It's near where you also go to check the checkbox to do an
encrypted backup.
Your encrypted backup will backup all configurations and passwords as well
as text messages, voice mails etc. You will loose text messages by the way
if you reset your device and set it up as a new device.
Apps are never actually backed up, but if you sync apps with iTunes and all
your apps are therefore backed up on your computer, they will resync with
your device after the restore is complete and all your folders and home
screen layouts will be preserved.

Good luck,
Sieghard

RE: Determining When A Third-party Keyboard Battery is Low?

2014-07-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, and the Logitech K760 can also do this and it's solar powered. Keep in
mind that the K810 is designed for use with PC. It will work with Apple, but
you have to use a different key combination for the Voiceover key since it
does not have the Command key and I think the Option key on a PC keyboard is
the Alt key.
I accidently also bought the K810 before and while it works I think I
remember that it didn't have a button at the very top right to show the
virtual keyboard. You could of course just turn off the keyboard to achieve
this, but I like to have the button.

Hello again Eileen,
Well, it seems I have the latest versions of both TextGrabber and Prizmo. I

Freehand. Firstly, let me say, I find a little bit of erratic behaviour in both
apps. Prizmo, four example, keeps bouncing me out back to the home screen. I
emptied out my app switcher and found things improved. TextGrabber seems to be
behaving okay here. However, particularly TextGrabber, gives me that error
message when I take a free hand shot more often than not. By the by, I leave
the flash on in TextGrabber. Can I suggest two things for you to try, if your
problem with TextGrabber persists? Firstly, reset your phone, by this I mean,
either turn off completely leave it for a bit and turn it on again or do the
press of the home button and power button held for 10/20 seconds etc. Secondly,
delete TextGrabber and download it again. I have experienced, with Prizmo,
problems after a faulty download. Two other things to think about, perhaps… is
your camera lens nice and clean? And do you have a nice lot of space
available on your phone for the processing process?

Re: Google App For Groups?

Hi,

I looked into this a couple of months ago unfortunately there is
not. There is an app called Google admin which lets you administrate a
Google group, but this only works if you have Google apps for
business, so, for example, the moderators wouldn't be able to moderate
this group with it.

Cheers,
Ben.

this issue?
Thanks!

Thanks,

Posting New Topic On Google Groups Mobile Site?

Hi, all,

Just wondering if anyone has found a way to post a new topic in a group from
this site? I had to go to the full site. I'm a member of some groups for which
I don't choose to receive email, so this would be a handy thing to be able to
do.

Thanks,

Hi Haya,

Before going through the recovery, first try something as simple as
unloading all apps from app switcher then fully powering down your iDevice
then restarting it. If you continue to experience the same behavior, you can
then move on to more aggressive troubleshooting.

New types of Braille displays

2014-07-13 Thread Sandratomkins
Hi,
Does anyone know anything about a new type of braille display called midas? It
is being developed by Bristol Braille technology. It may be a haptic display,
but I am only guessing…

They also seem to have a multi-line braille display which appears to be much
cheaper than our usual fare. I would like to know more about both of these, but
can't seem to find much in the way of detail. If anyone has more success
searching the net…

Re: New types of Braille displays

2014-07-13 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hi Sandy,

In the mid to late 1990s, at CSUN there was a company that had a full page
display and also a tactile full page display. What caught my eye with the
tactile (may not be using the right name) was that one could track the second
hand on the computer in the time dialog box. It never came to the general
blind community because I remembered the price was out of sight and the pockets
of most consumers. I'll be intersted if more information comes out about this
or a multi-line braille display. For myself, I think I could only handle a 4-6
line display. Otherwise, I think I would get lost. JMO.

Oh by the way, I'm still working on the Text Grabber issue and will post later.

were working on. It's not haptic, but some kind of film that is touch-sensitive
and produces electrical virtual buttons, etc. This film is supposedly very
inexpensive to produce and program. It was speculated it could be used for
buttons on touch screens, so why not Braille? Pure speculation, of course.Teresa

Re: New types of Braille displays

2014-07-13 Thread Alex Hall
I was in touch with Bristol Braille a couple years ago, and told them about
SenseG's E-Sense technology. They contacted the company, and were told that, at
that time, E-Sense lacked the necessary resolution for braille dots. Hopefully
the technology improves. I have heard nothing since that email in 2012, so who
knows what has happened since. Last I looked, though, Bristol had no hard
details, just more prototypes and goals than solid products. I don't mean to
put them down, as I am totally behind what they are trying to do, I'm just
saying I don't think development has gone the way they hoped it would.

I haven't had it disconnect, but I do have it freeze a lot. I don't have to

RE: Sonos multi-room Wireless music system was: Bluetooth speakers

2014-07-13 Thread Victor Tsaran
Hi,
I am also an avid user of Sonos products.
1. Yes, their Mac client is very minimally accessible with VoiceOver and I
opened a support ticket to that end. I think more users need to write to Sonos
to let them know we are out there and that we want the software to be
accessible across all platforms.
2. The recently-updated app for iOS is now beautifully accessible. By
beautifully I really mean what I say. You cannot mis the fact that the
accessibility was treated with care and not just as an patching activity.
3. Just to make sure you are aware, the Spotify account will have to be premium
in order to be usable with Sonos. One huge limitation, presented by Spotify, is
that the radio feature will not work even if you have a premium account.

If you want to give Sonos a try but not sure if you want to spend the money,
they have a 45-day return policy, so you can always ship it back if you don't
think this satisfies your needs.

Best,
Victor

Re: Text Grabber Not Capturing The OCR With The StandScan Pro

2014-07-13 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hi Sandy,

I want to thank you again for all of your suggestions to troubleshoot this.
After reading all of the threads, I wanted to double check and perform some
general maintanence on the phone.

I am using an iPhone 4 with 32 GB. The storage left on the phone is 9.6 GB, so
there is still plenty of storage. I started only with turning off the phone
with the power switch and then back on.

I have one of the original StandScan Pro, so it didn't come with stickers back
then. I used pennies at first to measure the correct position of the phone and
camera through the aperture hole on top. My method of stickers are 3/8 inch
clear velcro that I use for my clients. In a sense they are stickers. I do have
a battery pack, but I usually use the AC adaptor and plug in for the best
results. With the first version of the StandScan, I don't think the 12 volt was
offered until later on.

This all said above, I just tested out the StandScan Pro with Text Grabber. All
is working like it should except when there's no text to OCR. It was you who
inspired me to be persistent so I could perfect the ability to OCR to capture
written materials while I was at a clients home and needed to obtain essential
medical information. Oh by the way, I do have Prizmo and several other OCR apps
installed on the phone, but the two that gets my votes for productivity are
Text Grabber and Prizmo.

Thanks again for brainstorming and getting me back up to stuff. It's happy
scanning now

Best,
Eileen

seems to be behaving okay here. However, particularly TextGrabber, gives me
that error message when I take a free hand shot more often than not. By the

try, if your problem with TextGrabber persists? Firstly, reset your phone, by
this I mean, either turn off completely leave it for a bit and turn it on
again or do the press of the home button and power button held for 10/20

a nice lot of space available on your phone for the processing process?

To be honest, the keyboard I got was less expensive, but I will probabl get
an Apple one when I get an iPad. I couldn't pass up the good reviews and $30
US discount on this one from Amazon. :) I also wanted to experiment to see
if a bluetooth keyboard was a good option for me. It apparently is.

On my keyboard, it will work until the battery runs dry and all of a sudden,

plug in the keyboard's power supply, wait 20 or 30 seconds for it to build

Is anybody here using the latest Logitech Folio case for the iPad Air? I have some questions

2014-07-13 Thread Victor Tsaran
Curious if anybody here is using the latest Logitech folio case for iPad
Air? I have the following questions:

After covering the case and the screen appears to be locked, it will unlock
itself if you turn the iPad around. Have you experienced the same or is my
case faulty?

On the prior version of the Logitech keyboard for iPad Air I had more
shortcut keys, e.g. FN+F4 would open the task launcher, etc. Anybody knows
why I do not have these with the Folio case anymore?
Also, from the it would be nice if department... They've decided to move
the control key to the right of the keyboard. Do you think there is a way
to remap those keys?

Thanks for any answers.
Best,
Victor

Re: Help, I think I broke my copy of Prizmo.

2014-07-13 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hi Julia,

I just opened the settings in Prizmo. I will list them here, so you can compare
what you have.

iCloud- Mine is off by choice. This is a toggle button.
General- Under themes, the default is neutral.
OCR- detect text orienntation is on.

Export image quality is high.
Accessibility- Under voice reading, you can change the reading speed, so this
is personal preference.

I also did a quick capture scan with prizmo. It gave the normal up, down, back,
away, right etc. to locate the text. I tapped on the take picture button and
the normal chimes were heard. Do you think it's time to contact support with
Prizmo? They may have something that they can suggest. HTH.

Cheers,
Eileen

 Hi list.
Today I was experimenting with scanning free hand with Prizmo. My first
attempt wasn't very successful, so I changed some settings in the hopes of
better results. I have no idea what I did, but now the app won't work
properly when I use quick capture to try to take a picture of the text. When
I double tap the button, it now says take picture heading, and sits there for
a minute or two, even when I hit cancel, the app still vibrates like it is
detecting a page. It does eventually sometimes take a picture, but not the
speedy way it did before. The settings I changed are, detect text orientation
from off to on,camera flash from auto to on, I set the recognition language
to English, and I changed the paper size to U.S. Letter. I have tried
deleting the app and downloading it again, but it looks like it remembered my
previous settings. Is there perhaps a way to set it back to default? I didn't
 see any option like that.
Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.
 Thanks, Julia

Re: Help, I think I broke my copy of Prizmo.

2014-07-13 Thread Julia

Hi Eileen and list.
I'm happy to report that I didn't in fact brake Prizmo. I just
misinterpreted what was going on, I thought that when my iPhone
vibrated, that meant that it had detected a page. Now, on further
experimentation, I see that it has to say page detected, ready to
shoot, and then it will take a picture. Thanks very much for your help
Eileen.

Hi list.
Today I was experimenting with scanning free hand with Prizmo. My first
attempt wasn't very successful, so I changed some settings in the hopes of
better results. I have no idea what I did, but now the app won't work properly
when I use quick capture to try to take a picture of the text. When I double
tap the button, it now says take picture heading, and sits there for a minute
or two, even when I hit cancel, the app still vibrates like it is detecting a
page. It does eventually sometimes take a picture, but not the speedy way it
did before. The settings I changed are, detect text orientation from off to
on,camera flash from auto to on, I set the recognition language to English, and
I changed the paper size to U.S. Letter. I have tried deleting the app and
downloading it again, but it looks like it remembered my previous settings. Is
there perhaps a way to set it back to default? I didn't see any option like
that.
Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Julia

If you just plug the recharge cable in to it's recharger, you can start typing
again in about a minute or less so it really isn't a problem unless your in the

Re: Determining When A Third-party Keyboard Battery is Low?

2014-07-13 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Hi Alan,

When your Amazon Basics keyboard goes into sleep mode after some 30 minutes
of nonuse, how long does it take to wake up? That is, how long is it
before you type a key and have it register via iPhone speaking the key?

Mine certainly doesn't have that feature but it certainly would be nice if
it did. Mine does have an LED to tell you that it's on. If the LED isn't
on, your not typing but then that much is obvious I figure.

LOL, I know it seemed like an obvious question, but I was looking for
telltale warning signs, like maybe some keys not registering, etc. and
hopefully not having the keyboard simply stop working before it needs a
 charge.

Re: Sonos multi-room Wireless music system was: Bluetooth speakers

2014-07-13 Thread Traci Duncan
I have a couple Sonos questions.

1. Does voiceover speech remain on the device, or is it sent to the Sonos
speakers?
2. How does it work with multiple devices. Say I am using Sonos to listen to
Pandora, when I'm done, is it easy for another household member to use their
device to use Sonos for Songza?
3. How do you find battery drainage? Say you are streaming internet radio via
Sonos for 3 hours, what sort of battery drop do you see?

Thanks,
Traci

 1. Yes, their Mac client is very minimally accessible with VoiceOver and I
opened a support ticket to that end. I think more users need to write to
Sonos to let them know we are out there and that we want the software to be
 accessible across all platforms.
 2. The recently-updated app for iOS is now beautifully accessible. By
beautifully I really mean what I say. You cannot mis the fact that the
accessibility was treated with care and not just as an patching activity.
 3. Just to make sure you are aware, the Spotify account will have to be
premium in order to be usable with Sonos. One huge limitation, presented by
Spotify, is that the radio feature will not work even if you have a premium
 account.

If you want to give Sonos a try but not sure if you want to spend the money,
they have a 45-day return policy, so you can always ship it back if you don't
 think this satisfies your needs.

 Best,
 Victor

I just opened the settings in Prizmo. I will list them here, so you can

iCloud- Mine is off by choice. This is a toggle button.
General- Under themes, the default is neutral.
OCR- detect text orienntation is on.

 Export image quality is high.
Accessibility- Under voice reading, you can change the reading speed, so
 this is personal preference.

I also did a quick capture scan with prizmo. It gave the normal up, down,

support with Prizmo? They may have something that they can suggest. HTH.

When I double tap the button, it now says take picture heading, and sits

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly

Subject: RE: Sonos multi-room Wireless music system was: Bluetooth speakers

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi alan,

On my Amazon Basics keyboard I'm not experiencing this 1 second performance
you have described. While in the search box edit field, I then go to turn on
the Bluetooth keyboard, and it takes me about 15 seconds of tapping on keys
before I get any speech conveying what it is I'm typing. Maybe I got one
from a bad batch.

Whoa!--just had a major crash. Lost all sound and had to attach to desktop
and fire up iTunes. All looked normal, so powered down and restarted. Voice
came back on iPod, but I don't know why it disappeared to begin with.

RE: Sonos multi-room Wireless music system was: Bluetooth speakers

2014-07-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tracy,

Yes, Voiceover is always on the iPhone. Actually, Sonos is really a
self-contained system although you can play music that is on your iPhone.
Because Sonos itself is connected to the internet via your router and works
independently, there is no battery drain. Once you start a station playing
you can exit the app, you could even turn off your iPhone and the stream
will continue to play. The app really is just a remote control for the Sonos
system.
It is also no problem to play different streams in different rooms or zones.
If you play Pandora in the bedroom and somebody else in your family is in
the living room and they have an iPhone or other controller, they can select
the living room zone and play whatever they want there. If they want to
group say the living room and the kitchen and listen to Songsa then that is
also completely independent from you listening to Pandora in the bedroom.

I have a couple Sonos questions.

1. Does voiceover speech remain on the device, or is it sent to the Sonos
speakers?
2. How does it work with multiple devices. Say I am using Sonos to listen
to Pandora, when I'm done, is it easy for another household member to use
their device to use Sonos for Songza?
3. How do you find battery drainage? Say you are streaming internet radio
via Sonos for 3 hours, what sort of battery drop do you see?

Thanks,

 Hi,

One huge limitation, presented by
Spotify, is that the radio feature will not work even if you have a
premium account.

If you want to give Sonos a try but not sure if you want to spend the
money, they have a 45-day return policy, so you can always ship it back if
you don't think this satisfies your needs.

 Best,
 Victor

RE: Sonos multi-room Wireless music system was: Bluetooth speakers

2014-07-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, Sonos has to be hard wired to the router. This can be achieved by either
wiring one of the players to your router if your router is in a room where
you also want a player, if not just use the Sonos Bridge and connect it to
your router. The bridge then creates the Zigby network which is what all the
other Sonos players use to communicate with each other.

Sieghard

Sieghard,
That's exactly why I'm excited to have the K810--it works with both my
Windows 8.1 tablet as well as my iPhone! I haven't used the Option/Alt

does not have the Command key and I think the Option key on a PC keyboard

I accidently also bought the K810 before and while it works I think I
remember that it didn't have a button at the very top right to show the
virtual keyboard. You could of course just turn off the keyboard to achieve
this, but I like to have the button.

Thanks so much for telling us about the Logitech K811 Bluetooth keyboard.
Not too long ago, I purchased the Logitech K810 and just found out, from

 Hi Teresa,

The Apple Wireless keyboard is quite nice, but I think the Logitech
K811 is nicer. It's just as small, feels just as well-made but it has
 2 big
 advantages:

 1. It has a physical on/off slider on the right side instead of that
silly button on the Apple Wireless keyboard which inevitably gets
pushed if you have the keyboard in a bag or backpack.
 2. It is capable of being paired with up to 3 devices so if you have,
for example, an iPhone, an iPad and an Apple TV you can pair all 3
devices with the keyboard and simply pressing F1, F2 and F3 will allow
you to select which device you want to control. Whichever device you
pair first will be F1, the second device you pair can be selected with
F2 and F3 obviously then is for the last device you pair.

Another nice feature is that it's rechargeable via a standard USB
Micro cable so no batteries to replace.

 $30

Incorrect Reporting of Cellular Data Usage Possibly Related to VoiceOver

2014-07-13 Thread Craig Werner
Hello, everyone.

Sometimes, my iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2 reports an incorrect figure
for cellular data usage and claims there has never been a data reset.
This problem occurs if I try to access the cellular data usage as soon
as the iPhone starts speakin. Here's what I do to force this
behavior:

1. Turn off the phone, and turn it on again.

2. As soon as VoiceOver starts to speak, unlock the phone.

3. Go to Settings - Cellular.

4. Under the Cellular Data Usage heading, check the figure for
CurretPeriod. It may not be correct. At the endd of this section,
check Last reset. The iPhone may report never instead of the last
date on which a data reset occurred.

If I wait perhaps twenty seconds after the phone has started to speak
on power-up and then access the Settings menu, this behavior is much
less likely to occur. I am guessing that VoiceOver starts to speak
before the phone has finished loading the components necessary for its
correct operation.

Can anyone replicate these findings?

Thank you for all help.

RE: Incorrect Reporting of Cellular Data Usage Possibly Related to VoiceOver

2014-07-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Craig,

No, can't say it does this on my 5S. I just rebooted the phone and
immediately after Voiceover came on I put in my passcode and went to
Settings, it still opened right on the cellular page where I had left it and
a 4-finger tap put me right on the reset button and it told me my last reset
date which I happen to know is correct. Data usage was also displayed the
same as before the reboot.
I don't think this is necessary an issue with Voiceover. I guess to be sure
you would have to turn off Voiceover, then ask a sighted person to shut down
your phone, restart it and then log in and check as soon as the lock screen
appears.
I know, however, that the lock screen and the unlock button for a sighted
user shows up a few seconds before Voiceover speaks just as on a Windows PC
the login prompt is displayed usually 3 to 5 seconds before Jaws starts
talking. Yes, I know this might not be a good comparison since Jaws is
third-party software which is loaded after Windows loads, but what I am
saying is that if the lock screen appears with the unlock button the phone
is ready for use and whether Voiceover is running or not should make no
difference.
