RE: Standscan, Fopydo Book Reading Aid, ScanJig Pro Plus?

2016-05-25 Thread Jeremy
If you're not looking for a high level of document fidelity or high level of
accuracy, then KNFB reader and alike will help you quickly scan daily mail to
determine the difference between junk and important mail.

If you're looking for accuracy in your scanned books, you should probably stick
with a flat bed scanner and K1000 or OpenBook. I've tried to scan a textbook
page with KNFB reader, and it just wasn't practical to use this method to scan
the book. I did not try any scanning aids, but I doubt it will make much of a
difference when it comes to a textbook as the level of accuracy and fidelity
should be much higher for a textbook than a novel. Maybe you'll get good
results in near perfect conditions, but you're asking a bit much for this type
of app if you think you can use it to scan and read a textbook.

Update: Re: A Question Regarding Twitter Hash Tags

2016-05-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am cross-posting this.

Well, I have a couple of things to report along with a recommendation of a
fabulous free app that is designed to do one thing and to do it well; you
guessed it, to follow Twitter hash tags.

First, however, after reading Jonathan's reply, I discovered how to save a
search in Twitterific. This is a very nice feature of the app.

Second, subsequently, after returning to the native Twitter app, I
discovered that the app, itself, appears to save recent searches. And
although I could see and activate the saved search, I created from within
Twitterific, the native Twitter app does not appear to allow one to actually
save searches. Interesting, eh?

Finally, upon doing an app store search from my iPhone, in the US store, I
came across a free app called Tag Stalker.

I am delighted to report that this app is VoiceOver accessible, complete
with push notification options.

This app is remarkably simple with only five things that VoiceOver users
should keep in mind:
1.
There is an advertisement banner across the top that reads as a long string
of numbers. Just ignore this line as it will not be read unless you touch
it.

2.
It is not necessary to type in the hash tag symbol.

3.
The search results list of hash tags is auto-populating. This is to say, as
you type, a list of already-in-use hash tags will appear just below the edit
field. Simply find the one you seek and single-finger, double-tap to
activate the search.

4.
There are only two tabs, located on the bottom row of the app. The tab on
the left is Favorites and the tab on the right is Search. When you first
open the app, the Favorites list will be displayed. If you have not yet
saved any Favorites, the area will be empty. This can be a little confusing
to a VoiceOver user. Simply activate the Search tab and begin exploring.

5.
In the upper right corner of the search results list is the button that
allows you to save the search to your Favorites area; as far as I can tell,
this is the only un / mislabeled button in the app. That's pretty much all
there is to the app.

If you find Tag Stalker as useful as I, please write a review in the app
store being certain to comment on VoiceOver accessibility.

Happy Twitter hash tag surfing to us all.

Mark

Hi,

I have audio description enabled on my iPhone, but my parents have a Roku and
that option is not available. Other languages and subtitles are, but English
audio description is not an option. Why might this be?

Thanks,

Try double tap and hold on the link in your email and keep holding until you
hear the multi-tone sound. Then you should find an "open in" button. Double tap
on that and VDR should be one of the options if it isn't just an option from
the beginning.

Yes you can; the process for getting the book into VDR would be First upload
the book to Dropbox, which you must have on your PC and then on your phone;
once there, go into VDR and where it says Add, and from there Dropbox; Search
in your Dropbox on your phone, double-tap on the book which must be zipped in
order for voiceDream to transfer it into the app, and wait until VoiceDream
says the book is ready.

Thanks for any advice on how to do this.

Re: Standscan, Fopydo Book Reading Aid, ScanJig Pro Plus?

In my opinion, the Fopydo Stand with Book Reading Aid is the best bet for books.
The ScanJig Pro Plus can be used with books, but it won't help you keep the
pages open the way the Fopydo system does.

Hi James,
I use the Scan Jig Pro. I really like it as it can be used with multiple

KNFB Reader and my iPhone 6.
Hope this helps,

question virus on mac java

Hi friends,
When I open safari on the mac I sometimes get the message that there is a virus
on my mac. I need to install a virus scanner. All sorts of windows with games
open up.
I went to my terminal and tried to get the mackeeper shit off of my mac. I
think that worked with this command:
sudo rm -rf /Library/Preferences/.3FAD0F65-FC6E-4889-B975-B96CBF807B78 && sudo
rm -rf /tmp/*mackeeper*

But now java pomps up in my safari and says I have a virus. What can I do. What
do zou guys use to get virussen away?

deleting from one device with it still on another and syncing, help please

2016-05-25 Thread Regina Alvarado
An emergency of sorts. A friend has Drafts on 2 devices with saved documents. I
was trying to show her how to delete an unwanted document by touching on title
of document and flicking through the menu up and
down. Apparently she did not understand and touched delete at the top. It
erased all documents on that device. They are still on the other device. She
has the cloud so if it is on one device but deleted on the other when it syncs
will it wipe it clean or will the documents from the other device going to
replace the ones deleted? If
it will not sync, is there a process to get the documents back on the device
deleted from? Is there an undue or similar way to get them back? I am going
through all I know about syncing. If one device has documents, wouldn't it sync
to the deleted device? I hope this is clear and makes sense. She was not quite
staying with my instructions, but I feel rather responsible for the goof so
want to get back to her soon. Thank you in advance for extracting us from this
small phopaw!

RE: Asking again- which app to import photos from phone to Win10

2016-05-25 Thread Cher Bosch
That’s the problem. It would be difficult to select the new photos- the ‘import
pictures and videos’ dialog which came up automatically in Win7 ONLY imported
new pics without having to do anything. All I had to do was name the folder if
I chose- and everything else was automatic. I’ve lost that in Win10 and would
like to retrieve that automatic way of importing just the new photos once
again.

I haven’t located anyone who is using the Win10 ‘photo’ app and don’t know if
it’s accessible or know how to use it- but it looks as though it requires much
more interaction on the user’s part.

Windows 10 is an upgrade from Windows 7 so no, you can’t use Windows 7 together
with Windows 10, it would be like using iOS 8 together with iOS 9.

As far as getting pictures off your iPhone and onto the computer, you don’t
need to use anything except Windows Explorer.

In Windows 10 use Windows Key + E, your iPhone should be listed as a drive, you
can open it and drill down through the various subfolders (very much like using
an SD card from a camera) and when you get to you rlist of pictures highlight
the ones you want to copy, press Control+C to copy them to the clipboard, go to
the folder where you want them and press Control+V for paste and they will be
copied to that folder.

Let me know if you need more help with this, but it’s pretty straight forward.

You could of course also use iCloud, Dropbox or OneDrive if you use any of them
and turn on the feature to upload your photos then it will happen wirelessly in
the background. If, for example, you are a Dropbox user, you can turn on Camera
roll or Camera Backup (can’t remember what exactly it is called), but it is in
the Setting of the Dropbox app. It will create a Camera Uploads folder in your
Dropbox folder and any pictures you take will automatically get uploaded there.
If you have Dropbox set up on your computer they will download to that folder
on your PC.

Regards,

Sieghard

Are you all using the ‘Photo’ app in Win10 to import pictures? I don’t
understand all the buttons to select from. The Win7 program just did it all
without asking me to make all these non-intuitive selections. Can you use the
Win7 program in Win10? Thanks.

Yes, I can reproduce this on my iPhone 6S Plus with 9.3.2.
A single finger triple tap when on the search box seems to do the trick,
however.
As for the main search box when you first open Facebook (at the top left)
that seems to be once again accessible with a regular double tap.

Evening everyone.

The subject says it all. Here’s how to reproduce the serious bug.

1. Double tap the status button to begin composing your status.

2. Double tap “choose friends”.

3. There is a search field. See if you can bring up the keyboard there. I
bet you can’t? You should hear VoiceOver saying “Search text field” and it
will be impossible to activate at least with the standard double tap
gesture.

Cheers for any feedback. Very much appreciated.

RE: Bluetooth headsets for multiple devices, was Bone Conduction headsets

Hi Everyone,
I have a severe hearing loss and wear two hearing aids. Does anyone know if
these bone conducting devices work for hearing impaired. Do you hear through
the check bone or are you still hearing the sound through your ears? Any advice

Do you know the specific model of your Bluetooth earpiece? I'd like to

The documentation for my Sennheiser Presence states that when two devices are
connected at the same time, pressing the up and down volume buttons
simultaneously switches between devices, so you can control which phone makes
the call. I don't have two phones to test this though. The documentation also
states that Phone 2 is always the one that responds to the headset's voice dial
command, so when you connect two devices, especially if one is not a phone,
your phone has to be the second paired device.

Most all Bluetooth headsets can be used with multiple devices, you just
have to turn off Bluetooth on the devices not accessing the headset.

With iDevices, that is as easy as bring up the control center and
toggling Bluetooth off.

If you do not know how to bring up the control center, just touch in
the status bar on the clock or number of cell bars,, whatever, and flick up
with three fingers.

I’ve not heard of a Bluetooth headset that has a switch to change
devices.

RE: Questions regarding audio description and Netflix

I think by "wheel" he meant the big cursor button with the up/down and
left/right arrows and the select in the middle, it's a big round button which
looks a bit like a wheel I guess although you can only push on it at the top,
bottom left, right and middle and not turn it.

Hi once more,

Ok, I can get described stuff in Netflix, on my phone. I have a 3rd generation

Maybe this is on the newer models?

So are you saying that I also have to go in to Netflix, on the TV, and turn it
on in there, as well?
If so, that would make some sense.

Thank you,

As I recall, when I was watching a program on Netflix on the third

After selecting that, all Netflix shows with audio description played the

Hi once more,

Ok, I can get described stuff in Netflix, on my phone. I have a 3rd
generation Apple TV. So there is no wheel I know of.

Maybe this is on the newer models?

So are you saying that I also have to go in to Netflix, on the TV, and turn
it on in there, as well?

If so, that would make some sense.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Serious bug with latest Facebook update, please attempt to duplicate

2016-05-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, I can reproduce this on my iPhone 6S Plus with 9.3.2.
A single finger triple tap when on the search box seems to do the trick,
however.
As for the main search box when you first open Facebook (at the top left) that
seems to be once again accessible with a regular double tap.

Evening everyone.

The subject says it all. Here’s how to reproduce the serious bug.

1. Double tap the status button to begin composing your status.

2. Double tap “choose friends”.

3. There is a search field. See if you can bring up the keyboard there. I bet
you can’t? You should hear VoiceOver saying “Search text field” and it will be
impossible to activate at least with the standard double tap gesture.

Cheers for any feedback. Very much appreciated.

Questions regarding audio description and Netflix

2016-05-25 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everybody,

I have a question regarding Netflix, and audio description. I am not sure if
this question, or answer, may go further than just Netflix.

Ok, I have Netflix on my IPhone 5S, and on my 3rd generation Apple TV.

A few weeks ago, I was watching the show Fuller House, on my phone. The episode
did have audio description. I started to watch episode 2, but had to stop in
the middle of it.

When I decided to go back and watch it, I decided to watch it on the tv.
The show had to start all over again, but I really did not mind this. But I
realized there was no audio description this time.
I checked in my settings, and it is set to play the audio described shows.

So what is possibly going wrong?
Or what should I do, to get this to work?

Also, how can I tell if something on Netflix is described?
Or any show on any network, for that matter?

Thank you for any help.

Terri

RE: Bone Conduction Headsets

2016-05-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Multipoint I don't think means you can listen to the audio stream from two
devices simultaneously. I don't know if you meant that you can hear one in one
ear and the other in the other ear or that both play at the same time one on
top of the other, but that is not how this works. It just means you can connect
multiple devices and they can take turns using the headset.

Wow! Thank you Carla for posting this great information. By making the purchase
of the Aftershokz Trekz, I'll be killing two birds with one stone; I can listen
to two audio streams at once as well as able to hear the sound around me.
.

Also, if you're the individual who produces all those great iDevice podcasts,
thank you for that too since they've helped me out lots. I really loved your
Dropbox and Mbraille podcasts.

Hi,
I use the Aftershokz Trekz Titanium bluetooth headphones. I know that the
battery states that you only get 6 hours but in practice, you actually get
more. There is good stereo sound separation and if you experiment with where
you place the transducers, you can get a good bass response. Just have to get
used to the vibration on your face though which will feel strange at first. The
other point to make about these headphones are that they are lighter than the
previous model and better made and much more jurable. They are also multi-point
which is great for listening to two devices, in my case, my iPhone and iPod.
Hope this helps.

RE: Asking again- which app to import photos from phone to Win10

2016-05-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
HI Cher,

If you have Dropbox set up on your computer they will download to that folder
on your PC.

Sieghard

Are you all using the ‘Photo’ app in Win10 to import pictures? I don’t
understand all the buttons to select from. The Win7 program just did it all
without asking me to make all these non-intuitive selections. Can you use the
Win7 program in Win10? Thanks.

RE: Jabra BT headset

2016-05-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Danny,

I can’t say I am having any of the problem you described with the Edge, it just
seems that there is a problem with the microphones picking up my voice. I will
contact Plantronics first to see if this should be replaced by them or if I
should go through Amazon, but I’ll give the Edge another go to see if the next
one I get is better.

Hello Sieghard,

Thanks for the email.

I too bought the Plantronics voyager Edge and have to sent back after couple of
weeks. My situation were (1) sometime the Edge turned itself back off when I
switched it on; (2) often the audio went back and fore the headset and the
phone when I was on the call. Holding down the call button did not work. (3)
often the play and pause feature did not work when pressing the button. In
short, I found it very unreliable and could not help me much. Especially I am
very depending on BT headset because of my work.

I owned couple pairs of Aftershokz headsets but they were not great for
talking. Now I am in the market of shopping for a good BT headset.

I have a Jabra Supreme which is sitting on the ear and is held in place with a
plastic bar/loop that goes behind the ear. It is a folding design which is
actually nice, as soon as you unfold the little boom it is on and when you fold
it in again it is off.
It has voice controls as in you can say things like “Answer” when the phone is
ringing and it picks up the call and it works well. Call quality is good and I
think all in all Jabra makes good products. Mine is some years old and
primarily I don’t like one thing and that is the fact that it does not have a
Play/Pause function. On my new Plantronics Edge I can push the little button at
the top of the boom and hold it for a moment and that will do the Play/Pause. I
also think the Edge with it’s in the ear design is more comfortable. It doesn’t
really sit deeply into the ear, just a bit and I don’t notice much of a
difference as far as how much outside noise it blocks versus the Jabra. Only
problem is that my Edge which is only a few weeks old seems to be already not
working properly. Lately I get a lot of people telling me they can’t hear me to
the point where I switch it off and use the phone and SIRI rarely understands a
command which leads me to believe the the microphones are not picking up my
voice properly any more. This was not a problem at all in the beginning and
I’ll have to call Plantronics next week to see if I can get this replaced.

Hi all,

I am interested to buy an over the ear type of BT headset. Currently I am

Wondering has anyone use any of the above Jabra headsets? Can you give me some
feedback about them?

Or any recommendation for the over-ear type of BT headset beside the above 3
models?

Many thanks in advance for the feedback.

RE: Bone Conduction Headsets

2016-05-25 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi,

I find my Treks Titanium are more flexible than all the previous models. They
are also much lighter. I have stretched them quite a bit wider than my head
and found that the pressure did not increase. The band at the back of the head
is only about one quarter inch wide at most.
Much better design. Also, if positioned properly, they offer more bass than
previous models.
In my opinion, well worth the difference in price.
If I want to listen to music seriously, I use another blue tooth device or
simply use the ear buds that seem to give me better quality than any blue tooth
device.

facebook

2016-05-25 Thread Paul Richard McGann
to all,

I do believe that yo use siri, and I am braille user. no problem.

I have a question for yo about facebook.

when I notice an option on facebook app on iphone, I would see name of person I
would click in to find out who the person is and where the perosn is from. when
I use advance button to go forward, but somehow, it behaves weird as won’t go
forward, it keeps step back a pace or two pace. I try to go on forward, but it
won’t step over after the word “cover” and it keeps jump back. I try to go to
the bottom as I hit space bar plus dot 4,5,6 to go up but it ends up with
different person and would not change who the person I want to know who.

any advanceadvice? thank you1

RE: Can you play a mp3 book on Voice Dream Reader?

2016-05-25 Thread Richard Turner
Russ,

You do not have to use iTunes file sharing, but that is one option, frankly
made ridiculously difficult in iTunes 12.

The Open In, or DropBox are much easier and more direct.

Yes you can; the process for getting the book into VDR would be First upload
the book to Dropbox, which you must have on your PC and then on your phone;
once there, go into VDR and where it says Add, and from there Dropbox; Search
in your Dropbox on your phone, double-tap on the book which must be zipped in
order for voiceDream to transfer it into the app, and wait until VoiceDream
says the book is ready.

RE: Jabra BT headset

2016-05-25 Thread Danny Leung

Regards,

Sieghard

Re: Bone Conduction Headsets

2016-05-25 Thread Carla Savage

Hello jr,
Really pleased that you find my podcasts helpful. Yes, it's lovely to be able
to switch from one device to another without disconnecting. If you listen to
one device, just stop it and unlock the other device and the headphones pick up
the audio. Also, if I'm listening to music and my iPhone rings, the music stops
and i can just press the button on the headphones to answer the call.
Hope this helps,
Carla.

Can I tell it to notify me in advance when the next show I am interested

It can be a little tricky, the first time you open it as the introduction

think it's great.

If you have a sighted friend near you, they can get you through the setup

Also, for the best experience, I suggest that you visit tvguide.com and create

Issue With Latest Trivia Crack Update

2016-05-25 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi all. I'm having an issue with Trivia Crack. What happens is when I open the
app to take my turn and I click on one of my games, everything's fine. However,
when I go to take my turn after I got a question wrong or when I challenge
someone, Voiceover only reads me the answer and not the question. The only work
around I've found is to close and reopen the app. Anyone else having this
issue? This is with the original Trivia Crack, not Kingdoms.

I’ve not heard of a Bluetooth headset that has a switch to change
devices.

RE: Bone Conduction Headsets

2016-05-25 Thread Jeremy

JR

Hi,
I use the Aftershokz Trekz Titanium bluetooth headphones.
