Sharing apple music by email.

2016-11-12 Thread terri elliott
Hi. I'd like to send some music to a friend from my apple music library by
email. Is there an app out there that I can use to do this? I tried the
shared option but he would have to install Itunes and he would have to buy the
song. Is there another way that I can send this music to them? Thanks.

Re: Sling tv

2016-11-12 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hi Kliphton,

It's under guide. I played around with it, and found the channels. Of
course, like you mentioned, it doesn't say what they are. But it lists
the numbers, and says when I am on one. It says, sellected. I can get
the channels to play, so far.

I signed up for the blue, and orange package. I would like to know what
the orange extra package is, if I plan to keep this.

By the way, apparently, channel 1 is FX.

I'm sorry you have been dealing with a loss, and a funeral.

Thank you for your help with this. If you think of anything else, please
let me know.

Thank you,

Terri

Hello Kliphton, and list,

Ok, I decided to play with the Sling TV one more time. I wasn't planning
on it. I had actually un-installed it. So I had to re-install it.

I had some trouble signing in, which I didn't before. So I found that to
be a bit odd.

Anyway, I couldn't find a watch now option. I found my tv, on now,
search, settings, and possibly something else. I just can't remember
what it was. But I know for sure it wasn't watch now.

Here is where things get interesting.

I went in to the on now. I slid my finger down, and I was shocked to
hear programs being announced. Now I think I could go left and right as
well. But I don't remember for sure.

It would tell me the name of the show, but not if it was a movie, or a
show. Some of it was obvious. It would tell me the tv rating, the start
time, but unfortunately not the channel. Also, when I entered on an
option, not sure if it was a movie, it did come up. Once it came up, I
learned it was an episode of Nashville.

I just found this interesting, and thought that I would pass this on. I
think I will fiddle around with it a bit more.

I wish the website offered a list of channels. But I don't think they do.

Terri

mean, I know nothing about making a product accessible. But you can read
the menu.

So how hard can it be?

I decided to install the App for my computer. That experience was worse
than my Apple tv. When I open the program, it's as though there is
nothing there at all. There isn't even a way to sign in.

I just thought I would share my thoughts, and experiences with you all.
Even if many of you already knew all this.

Thank you,

2016-11-12 Thread Kliphton Miller
I tried it, and it is usable depending on how much patients you have, and if
you are willing to try different methods. Watch now wasn’t accessible, adding
favorites wasn’t accessible, but if you go in to watch now, there is a list of
channels from left to right. Now, the channels weren’t read by voiceover, but
I went threw the channels with my sited children, and wrote down the ones I
wanted to remember in a note on my iPhone. After going threw them a few times,
I remember what each one was. So, if I wanted to watch TBS, I knew it was 14
of 67, if I wanted to watch oxygen, I knew it was 34 of 67, and if I wanted to
watch USA, I knew it was 18 of 67. a little getting use to, but that method
worked for me. I am only using it until direct TV now launches its service
next week, once it does, I am gone! They will be offering more channels for
less. HTH

Re: Sling tv

2016-11-12 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hi mama peach,

I totally agree with you really. It wasn't that I was not trying to listen to
what other people had to say. I guess I was just hopeful. I'm missing not
having some certain cable channels, so I just really wanted something to work.
Luckily, I really did not cause myself any stress. I was disappointed it didn't
work. But nothing more than that. Plus, I didn't spend any money. So that made
a huge difference. Now if I had spent money and it hadn't listened to what
others had said, I would've really been upset with myself

But I just took the free trial, and I gave it a shot. It didn't work. So now I
have to decide what I want to do. I don't mind not having cable. I really
don't. If I could find a way to watch some stuff that I really would like to
watch in other ways, I just do that. I don't mind helping antenna TV type
stuff. Well over the air.
I already canceled my free trial. So all is good.

Thank you for your advice though, and your thoughts. I appreciate them as
always.

Yes Andy, you are so right. LOL! I think that is why the man on the

I deleted the entries in the passcpcode field several times. It would say 0 of
6 values entered when I finished deleting. I’d input them again and it only
took 4 values. Well, it didn’t happen when I charged the phone overnight last
night. As you say, I won’t worry about it unless it becomes a recurring

Thanks.

Subject: Sling tv

Hello everyone,

I have heard that Sling tv is not accessible. I have heard this more
than once. But I was curious to try it out, because they offer a 7 day
trial.

I had a little bit of a problem getting my account set up on the
website, so I called the phone number. The man I talked to was nice, but
he really did seem rather shocked, when I told him I was totally blind.

I informed him that I tried to sign up on the site, but that it wouldn't
let me submit my information. He told me that this can happen, because
their site gets over-loaded right now, with people trying to sign up. He
said for some reason, it had accepted my password. That was interesting!

So I got all set up, and I went and installed Sling on my Apple tv. I
was hoping it would work, though I had my doubts.

It doesn't work!

I could easily sign in. But once I was signed in, I didn't get any sort
of feedback. So I touched the gesture area, and that got a response.
Sadly, I could see the menu. But anything I tried to enter on, would not
come up.

I really think, and feel that if they would just put some effert in to
this product, it wouldn't be too difficult to make it more accessible. I
mean, I know nothing about making a product accessible.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Liner Notes

2016-11-12 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Tom,

A few, and I really mean a few, albums come with a PDF booklet when you buy
them through iTunes Store. They have some of what you are talking about. I'm
not sure they have everything the old liner notes used to have, or if liner
notes are just not as complete as they used to be.
The Book of Mormon CD has a booklet. Many of the songs are shown as
"explicit," which is true.
Holly Happy Days, a Christmas album by the Indigo Girls came with a digital
booklet. They are accessible and will download with the album, but you may
have to open then in iBooks to get them to show up where you can read them.

HTH,
Richard

Hi all,
I use Apple Music on my iPhone a lot and have amassed a huge library including
rock, classical, jazz, country, all kinds of good stuff. It's a fairly
eclectic collection. When I open an album to play it, I notice a button which
will show the artwork for the album, which, I presume, includes cover art and
the like. Way, way back when, when I used to buy vinyl albums and CD's, I used
to sit down with an Optacon and read the liner notes that came with the album
or CD, which was cool because I could look at such things as the personnel on
the various tracks and even what kind of musical gear was used, et cetera. Is
there a way to get that kind of information through Apple Music? I would
absolutely love to get access to liner notes if possible. Any ideas? Thanks.

hi,

I've heart that some music you buy from the iTunes store comes with a

this would be accomplished on just an apple music subscription.

Accessible Apps for buying, saling, or even looking for housing?

2016-11-12 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I usually use Craigslist on my laptop, if I want to sale something
locally, or if I want to purchase something. I have even found
apartments this way.

I guess it's been a week since I last went to the site. I went there
about an hour ago, as I would like to find another apartment.

However, the site was strange, and didn't make sense. When I went to
view apartments, I saw all these numbers, instead of links that said 1
bedroom apartment, and so on. I tried to enter on one of the links. But
from what I could tell, nothing happened. So I am not sure what is going on.

I tell you all this long story for a reason.

Is there an app for Craigslist, that works with the Iphone, or Ipad?

How accessible might it be?

Also, if there isn't an App for Craigslist, are there other accessible
Apps that offer apartment, or roommate listings, as well as other
things. Such as computer stuff, and the like?

I have a sighted friend who uses offer-up, though I know this doesn't
have a housing section.

I tried this on my Iphone a couple of months ago, and unfortunately it
didn't seem accessible at all.

I mainly want a site that will offer a range of housing options, but
more with private landlords. I don't like big management companies.
That's a personal choice.

If anyone has any ideas for me, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Focus automatic in camera

2016-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Rich,

If you have the phone on a tripod you can definitely use sign language and then
take the picture, just make sure the people you are photographing don't move
once you have aimed the camera. The camera will auto focus on what it sees in
the centre of te picture/view finder so if it's all lined up and the people
them move a step or two to the side the picture will most likely not turn out
good.

In the camera app you can change between back and front camera, by default it
uses the back camera until you have a 3D touch capable iPhone and you use 3D
Touch on the camera app where one option is "Take a Selfi", then it will
automatically be set to the front camera.
I don't think in KNFB Reader you have a choice, it uses the back camera.
Always remember that sighted people want to see what they are taking a picture
of on the screen, therefore the back camera is normally used when taking a
picture of anything that is in front of you, you look at the screen and the
camera points towards whatever you are taking a picture of.
If you are taking a selfi you still look at the screen, but then of course the
camera has to be facing you and if you were to turn the phone around so the
back camera would be facing you then a sighted person couldn't see what the
camera shows on the screen. The front camera which is used for selfis or during
Facetime or other video calls doesn't have to have the same good resolution
because at best you are taking a selfi which is really close up and not
something further away which a sighted person may want to enlarge digitally
which is when the number of pixels matters. If you enlarge an image with fewer
pixels it gets grainier more quickly.

Hi,
If you are wanting a good quality picture, you want the back camera, which is
the one on the back side of the phone, not on the screen side.

If you want to take a selfy, that is the front camera and it is lower quality
than the back camera, so not good for quality photos or OCR.

Hi Sandra,

There is absolutely no reason why a picture or KNFB result should be any
different whether screen brightness is 0% or 100% or if the screen curtain is
on especially with the rear camera.
The camera takes the picture and the screen displays it so at best a sighted
person would not see the picture very good if screen brightness was very low
and it was bright outside and of course they wouldn't see anything if screen
curtain was on.
Just to make sure I am not spouting nonsense I just did 2 tests:

1. I took a picture of a printed page with KNFB Reader, first with screen
brightness at around 46%, then manually set to 0% and then with screen curtain
on and still at 0% brightness. All 3 scans were read equally well and I could
not detect any difference.

2. I asked one of my employees to take a picture, again first at a normal
brightness level, then with brightness at 0% and then with screen curtain on.
Afterwards I put brightness back to auto brightness, opened the Photos app and
asked her to look at the 3 pictures, she said they all were the same.

The above is true for both the back and front camera. One thing I wasn't sure
about is whether the front camera which uses the LED backlighting for the flash
would actually flash if the screen

One thing I wasn't sure
about is whether the front camera which uses the LED backlighting for the flash
would actually flash if the screen curtain was on. We went into a dark room and
tried a picture with Flash set to automatic with the front camera once without
and once with screen curtain on. My employee said the flash went off both times
and the pictures looked the same.

Re: battery draining need to reboot

2016-11-12 Thread Donna
Well...I can't say whether the battery draining problem is specific to the
iPhone 6, a bug for those who have the iPhone 6 & running the latest IOS 10.1.1
or if after 2 years my iPhone 6 battery just needs to be replaced. Being my
contract with AT was complete & my phone is no longer under warranty; I
decided instead of continuing to get frustrated with a rapidly draining battery
or having to be connected to a wall charger all day, I went & bought myself an
iPhone 7. The battery in the iPhone 7 is not draining rapidly. I have been
using my iPhone almost continuously since noon (5 hours) listening to music,
playing games, texting & searching Bard, my battery is now at 62%. I'm now a
happy iPhone user once again!

RE: Focus automatic in camera

2016-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Do you have the keypad on the screen? If so you have to first hide the keypad,
the hide button is at the bottom right, if you can find the End Call button
above the home buton you just have to swipe right once from there.
Once the keyboard is hidden the mute button is the top button, here is the
bottons that are present, keep in mind that at the very top is the name or
number of who you are calling followed by the call duration timer:

Mute
Keypad
Speaker
Add Call
Facetime Video
Contacts
End Call

Interestingly enough when I just did a test call to a regular toll free phone
number the Facetime Video button was not showing as dimmed or unavailable, but
obviously it wasn't working and when I tapped it I was kicked back to the
keypad showing on the screen.

Hi Todd,

The iPhone’s camera, just as many point and shoot cameras, is an auto focus
camera. This means it automatically focuses on what is in the centre of the
picture. This is why Voiceover say “Focus unlocked” it simply means focus is
not locked to anything outside the auto focus area which is in the centre of
the screen.
As a blind person all you can do is to try and focus the camera so whatever it
is you are taking a picture of is hopefully about in the middle of the screen
where the auto focus area will do its job.
If you take a picture of a person Voiceover will tell you when it sees the face
and if the face is centred and if it says “face near left edge” you can try to
move the phone a tiny bit to try and get it to be in the centre where the auto
focus area is located.

You can force the camera to focus on something that is not in the auto focus
area

Chip, with the latest iTunes, don’t even think about using it for getting MP3

There is a way to transfer zip files with iTunes, but it now takes a sighted

That is my take on it. It used to be super easy with iTunes 11 and prior.

Hi Chip,
My favorite way is through DropBox.
Now, if you are using iCloud Drive and iCloud Sync with Voice Dream Reader, be
aware that large audio files take a very long time to sync, so I would not keep
them long in your library.
Also, if you have a book in mp3 format that has lots of chapters that are
separate files, you want to first make sure they are labeled so they will play
in order, then zip them into a zip file and name the zip file with the name of
the book.
Then, put that zip file on Dropbox, for example, and then add it to Voice Dream

Then, Voice Dream will treat it as a book with each file being a chapter.
It is quite slick.

HI.

i’m having some issues with voice dream reader.

I am running a 6 s with the latest iOS update.

Sometimes when I launch voice dream reader, I get a message saying that iCloud
isn’t available. Not sure if this is a connection issue. Nothing will play
after dismissing the message, until I reboot my phone.

The more annoying problem though, is this.
I have an audio book which has 4 parts to it. Each part is about 4 hours
long. I’m fine if I play the file straight through, but about an hour before a
part of the book is about to end, , If I try to rewind or fast forward I end
up at odd places in the book. It’s almost like at certain parts of the file,
the rewind and fast forward act like I’m skipping by an hour or something. If
I skip forward too far, I end up at the next part of the book. It also doesn’t
tend to keep my place when it’s at , the particular spot where i’m having
problems. I really love this app, but have had to resort to using downcast, as
if the book is paused at problem spots, it jumps back or forward to the next
part, and it’s impossible to rewind or forward to find where I was up to. I
was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these issues with audio
books, before I write to the developer.

thanks

One thing I wasn't sure
about is whether the front camera which uses the LED backlighting for the flash
would actually flash if the screen curtain was on. We went into a dark room and
tried a picture with Flash set to automatic with the front camera once without
and once with screen curtain on. My employee said the flash went off both times
and the pictures looked the same.

Re: Focus automatic in camera

2016-11-12 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
hi, I may be wrong, but certainly screen brightness will affect your
photograph. for examples, to get a good shot with KNFB reader, I have to
remember to turn brightness right up, Normandy, it is zero. this isn't true of
all camera apps, but very difficult to predict which ones it affects and which
ones it doesn't. same with the screen curtain, some barcode apps don't work
when the screen curtain is turned on.

just my observations,

Re: battery draining need to reboot

hi,
I may be wrong: but it seems to be the iPhone 6 that is more likely to be
affected by this bug. I have an iPhone 6. It is draining more than before, but
has improved since I turned off location based services, which I managed to
switch on in the setup process. it is now acceptable, but not as good as before…

 Hello Donna,

When you did a complete restore, was that a restore to factory settings
followed by reinstalling all your apps? That’s what I had to do to stop
 the battery drain.

Hmm. I had forgotten that screen curtain should be off when taking a screen

You can force the camera to focus on something that is not in the auto focus
area in the middle of the screen by tapping on it, but obviously this is a
photography feature which is of limited or no use to a completely blind person.
Note that if a sighted person taps on something off to the side, maybe a flower
or person that is not in the centre of the frame then the camera will still use
auto focus and focus will still be “unlocked”.
A sighted person can also “lock” the focus on an object or person on the screen
by tapping and holding on the object or person instead of tapping it just once.
If somebody did that and then you turned on Voiceover it would say “Focus
locked” instead of “focus unlocked”. I have not yet discovered a way to “lock”
focus when Voiceover is running, a double tap and hold doesn’t seem to do it, I
tried a double tap and hold and then to tap with another finger and I tried
force touch. On the other hand, if I toggle Voiceover off with a triple click
of the home button and then touch and hold somewhere on the screen and the turn
Voiceover back on, Voiceover will then say “Focus Locked”.

There are also third-party apps which allow for “manual focus” instead of “auto
focus”, but once again these would be of no use to a blind person and the same
applies to adjusting the exposure which you can do even with Voiceover running
if you double tap and hold and then slide a finger up or down on the screen. Of
course you don’t really know what exposure will be best and here it is simply
best to let the camera of the iPhone which is a very good camera do it’s job
and let it auto focus and auto expose the picture.

particular on the iPhone works even if many of the features require you to see
what you are doing, the below article explains this quite nicely:

Apple sending you the next version of iOs? It has to download at some point
before it tells you iOs blah.blah is now available...
and so on.

But yes, irritating as it is burning off your bandwidth without your permission

RE: Focus automatic in camera

2016-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

You can force the camera to focus on something that is not in the auto focus
area in the middle of the screen by tapping on it, but obviously this is a
photography feature which is of limited or no use to a completely blind person.

For anybody who is interested to learn a bit more about how photography in
particular on the iPhone works even if many of the features require you to see
what you are doing, the below article explains this quite nicely:

What does it mean when it says Focus unlocked image?

That is concerning iPhone 6S iOS 10.1.1.

RE: Network Connection In Progress

2016-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Arnold,

Maybe check in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This
is at the end of location services and I would turn off most of what is in
there except of course Find my iPhone and so on. But there are things like
traffic, frequent places, cell network search, Wi-fi Network search, automatic
time zone and all of that which you can turn off, maybe that makes a difference
as far as the message in the status bar that your Wi-Fi connection is active.
Also make sure you go to Settings > Cellular and again almost at the bottom
above Reset make sure WiFi Assist is turned off. This is more to protect
yourself from using excessive cellular data since this setting means that if it
is on your cellular data/connection is used to make up for situations when your
WiFi signal is poor. I just realized when I checked it that it is on on my
phone, I received a warranty replacement a couple of weeks ago and this setting
is on by default and I hadn't turned it off yet. However, looking at the amount
of data used, 3.8 Mb, it is very minor as this was over a two-week period.
Lastly, make sure you don't, for some reason, have Personal Hotspot on.

Regards,
Sieghard

I apologize for taking so long to get back to you on your question! Honestly,

Have you tried calling Apple Support with this perplexing issue?

Re: battery draining need to reboot

2016-11-12 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello,

This has happpened on my iPhone SE and I know of it happening on an iPhone 5S.
Mine is now working fine again so there is nothing wrong with the battery.
I’ve had iPhones for over 7 years now and this is the first time I’ve had this
issue with a fairly new phone.

Cheers,

Anne

 Hello Donna,

When you did a complete restore, was that a restore to factory settings
followed by reinstalling all your apps? That’s what I had to do to stop
 the battery drain.

 Cheers,

 Anne

Re: rapid battery drain problem

2016-11-12 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Paula,

I reported this issue to Apple Accessibility and they took my crash reports and
said that there was definitely something strange going on.
Mine is an iPhone SE which was new in June. The problem started with iOS 10.1
and continued with 10.1.1 but I fixed it both times by restoring to factory
settings.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Comcast app to notify/forward voice mail?

2016-11-12 Thread Joseph Hudson
Time Warner cable, has text message alerts enabled for voicemails, I don't
currently use it but it is one of the options that is available. It is a
transcription of the message that is being a left by the individual. So if this
is what you're looking for, you might want to see if they're available in your
area.
