Thanks, for telling us about this, I was taking a photo of my chocolate
Labrador earlier today on my 7 plus and I wondered why there was no sound when
I took the photo and when I went into my camera roll it said I had taken a live
photo, I didn't realise I had taken an live photo in the first place, best
wishes, Sarah.

RE: Bluetooth headsets for use with IPhone 7

2016-12-29 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi,

I am not sure why the rating is only a 3.7. I would rate them a 5. I have been
using them for over 2 years. I have two pair and have not had an issue with
either one of them. I have a friend who has the same headset longer than I do
and he has no issues. I use the headset at least five to six hours every day.

The reason I have two pair is when I am using them for more than six hours they
need to be recharged so I switch to my other pair so I can keep using them. As
far as the reviews go I guess you will have to go and read them. I did go and
read some of them and the first ones I read said they like them real well and
they had good sound and everything worked well. One guy said all that but he
only gave them a 4 rating. He had no negative comment.

What is it about this device that stops it getting 5?

Hi,

They are over the ear and have nice padding on the ear pad. I use them for six
to eight hours every day with no issues. I wear hearing aids. They go on top of
your head and are very light. The microphone goes up behind the hear pad when
you don’t need it. They also fold up real nice for traveling. All though I
don’t travel with them. When you unfold them they lock in place real well. The
nice thing about these headsets is you can use them on a windows pc, iPhone,
and any Bluetooth device. I just move a switch to go from my pc to my iDevice.
I have no complaints on these headsets. I go all over my house and down in the
basement and they don’t lose connection.

Hi

I like the Logitech H800. They are Bluetooth and wireless. You can use them on
your pc by plugging in a small Nano in the USB port and you can also Bluetooth
them to your I device. They have volume, pause, mute on the headset. They are
nice and light with big ear muffs that go over the ear. The lag is very minimal
on them. They also fold up for travel. They last for about 6 hours on a charge.
I use them every day for six to eight hours a day. I talk on Skype, listen to
my book with the BARD Mobile app, and listen to my pc so I do not bother my
wife. One great feature is I go to bed with them on and listen to a book on
BARD Mobile app and when I am tired of reading I push the pause button on the
headset and turn them off and go to sleep. I don’t have to go and get my
iDevice to turn it off. I have two of them and love them. You can get them on
Amazon for about 42 to 60 bucks.

I have had mine I believe for over two years with no issues.

Re: Phone Number to the Accessibility Group

2016-12-29 Thread Brent Harding
How does this laptop solution work? I'd rather just have a remote and a box,
use a phone app, or even an Apple TV app, and I'd probably then buy one of
those. I'm still in a TWC area, yet they're running Spectrum Business
Internet ads for cheaper than I am paying on a promo for ultimate 50, and
that has 60. I have to imagine they jumped the gun on the inserted ads, as
they wouldn't likely be having their own business class internet undercut
what's available for residential, as commercial everything is usually more
expensive, but I think you get faster resolution if you get an outage.

Oh trust me, they know. The rep that set up my appointment called after to
see how it went and I told him everything. The gentlemen who came to set up
the laptop have my name and have sent in a full report on this experience to
TW. They said they would call me as soon as they find out when better
accessibility will be available. I told them that I wanted the box. Which
is what I asked for in the beginning but was told that was not what I was
going to get. I am glad I went through with the appointment anyhow just to
show them what would not work.

So we'll see what happens. Thing is I don't think our Time Warner company
have totally merged with everybody else.

They are still calling themselves Time
Warner. When we went from Insight to TW, they still made us use the old
equipment from Insight, rather than bring in new. The wheels of whatever,
grind slow around here, trust me.

Okay, here is the numer to the recently created accessibility group at
Spectrum. It is: (844(762-1301. I'd encourage a call to register your
interest in the accessible box. You do not have to accept a laptop. Mike
Arrigo, who posts to this list has the box and speaks very highly about its
functionality. I certainly trust his comments on his experiences with the
box. The key question is when the boxes will be available system wide. The
reps may not know that. But they are the ones responsible for taking our
calls and registering us in their database as interested and in need of
these boxes. Good luck.

Using Airpods with an Apple watch

2016-12-29 Thread Chuck Dean
Hello everyone,

I have had some success using Airpods with my Apple watch. Here is what I
do.
1. I remove one of the Airpods from the charging case, and set it down on
the table. It is important to not put the Airpod in your ear at this time.
2. Go to the watch face and flick up twice to open the control panel,
double tap the watch face.
3. Flick right until you hear air play. Double tap the watch face. 4. Flick
right until you hear Airpods. Double tap the watch face. 5. Now you can put
the Airpod in your ear. The focus will stay on the Apple watch as long as
you do not use the iPhone.

The quickest way to change the focus to the iPhone, is to do a two finger
double tap on the screen to start music. The focus will switch to the
iPhone almost immediately.

In order to change the Airpods' focus back to the Apple watch, you must
remove the Airpods from your ears and repeat the above steps.

It is not elegant, but it does work.
Good luck,

Chuck (mobile)

RE: speech rate adjustment

Hi:
Can the rotor be accessed from the home screen, or do I need to access a

Hi Louise,
You put two fingers on the screen with them spread apart about ¼ of an inch or
so. You can also use your thumb and your pointer finger. This is what I use.
Then rotate your finger like you are turning a knob. You can turn clockwise or
counter clockwise. Keep your fingers on the screen when you are turning them.
Then as you are rotating your fingers you should hear things listed like,
words, characters, and other things depending on what you have chosen to be on
the rotor. Now keep turning until you hear speech rate then stop turning and
lift your fingers off the screen. Now flick up or down with one finger on the
screen to change the speech rate. VO will announce what the rate is every time
you flick up or down.
If you learn this method of changing your speech rate it is a lot faster than
going into settings. One suggestion I recommend is after you change your speech
rate to where you want it turn the rotor to something like characters or words.
The reason for this is if you leave the rotor on say speech rate and you flick
up or down with one finger to do something else you might change the speech
rate again by mistake. By putting the rotor on say characters when you flick up
or down you will move the cursor one letter forward or backwards depending if
you flick up or down with one finger.

Play audio from both iphone and apple watch through same headphones?

2016-12-29 Thread Jared
Is it possible to play audio from the iphone and apple watch through the
same headphones? I'd like to listen to all my music and podcasts over
bluetooth headphones as well as the apple watch workout stats. So far I
have not found a way to do this and I will have to sync all my music I want
to listen to while working out to the apple watch. I simply can't listen to
podcasts unless I convert them to music tracks and sync through iTunes.

I went to Amazon.com via the given link, and found that the Logitech H800
headset has an average rating of 3.7 stars out of a possible 5.

Do they come with voice prompts or guide?

Wil check them out more.

Are they over the ear or in the ear headphones and how light are they and
comfortable to wear too?

Thanks.

Here is the link on Amazon:

accessible to with the possibility of audio prompts?

Thanks.

I also highly recommend the HBS 1100. The utility of it is the most desirable
attribute. It’s not going to bowl you over with bass, but it sounds ok. The
ability to simply pull out one or both ear buds whenever you need them is quite
wonderful. The latency is ok; not perfect. I have seen other blue tooth devices
with less. However, it’s not bad either.

I’m going to have to re-purchase it because someone lost mine. Going to check
to see if there is possibly an updated version since I am not certain when the
1100 was released.

One of their advantages is that when not in use, they are very unobtrusive,

I’m going to have to re-purchase it because someone lost mine. Going to check

Hi Michael,

I like the ones from LG which fit around your neck in a loose horseshoe shape,
but they rest on your shoulders. You pull either one or both earbuds out of
the base unit (they extend on wires) to use it, and when done you press a
button and the wires automatically wind the earbuds back up into the base unit.
The base unit has buttons not only for talking to Siri and making or
disconnecting calls and volume, but also for play/pause and fast forward/rewind
of played audio material (which often are not present).

The model I have is the LG HBS 900 but I believe someone here said there’s now
a 910 available (not sure of the difference). They come in a variety of colors
(mine is silver gray).

One of their advantages is that when not in use, they are very unobtrusive, so
they can be worn in professional or social environments and they don’t draw
attention.

I have a notes file which describes where the buttons are and what they do if
you end up buying these, just drop me a request at:

acora...@comcast.net

They run around $90 I believe.

it is possible that the box offered to Charter customers was developed before

According to their press release which you can find on

www.acb.org

Spectrum or Time Warner ,whatever they are calling themselves now, have three
accessible options, and you get what they choose to give you according to your
location.

So what they wanted to give me was a laptop with the guide on it. That was it.
No receiver or box, no way to manage a dvr, no way to manage menus, to turn on
or off AD.

I said this was not acceptable, what my definition of full accessibility is. I
can get the guide on my phone, o I should be able to.

So they didn’t set up the laptop. And besides, when I asked them to disable
the mouse, it wouldn’t work at all, using the keys, to access the guide. The
screen reader is NVDA, by the way which is fine.

But it really was not of any use to me.

Again, according to your location, you may get the receiver, as it seems Terri
has got; but here, that is not what they are willing to give us.

RE: Finding my Lost IPhone

2016-12-29 Thread Terrie Terlau
Hello Mr. Ed and everyone,
I used Find my IPhone on my IPod. Before doing so, I had already asked my
provider to temporarily suspend the phone. So Find my IPhone indicated that the
phone was offline. However, this is promising in that the app located something
about my phone.

I will search in my friend's car tonight (she has already done so but a second
pair of eyes/hands can't hurt), and if it is not there, I will purchase a new
one.

If anyone is interested in selling a 6 S Plus, please write me offlist at:

Messaging ID issue

2016-12-29 Thread M.Nelson
this is actually a problem on my daughter’s IPhone SE. She recently upgraded to
IOS 10.2 and after the update, when she texts, the receiving phone shows her
ICloud ID instead of her normal contact name as in the past. In addition, I get
no notification alert sound when she texts my phone. The message shows up as a
contact rather than from an unknown sender even though I do not have her ICloud
ID in her contact info. Any ideas what might correct this?
Thanks, Marie

Re: OT my experience with spectrum re accessibility

2016-12-29 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

You know it's odd, I don't remember writing a message regarding this, to this
list. Maybe someone else did it with the same name. But I doubt that. LOL!

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I haven't tried out the Spectrum App for my
Iphone yet. I have tried it out quite a while back, and I didn't find it all
that accessible.

If I did send the message to the list, I probably mentioned that I live in
Missouri. There seems to be different accessibility numbers for different
areas, from what I understand. When I called the main one I found through the
website, it re-routed me to another number in my area.

I will say that so far, the accessability support has been quite good. I wasn't
sure that it would be.

My service was installed on Monday. It was an awful experience, because I got a
sub-contractor. He was new to the job, and even though what I needed was
supposed to be included in the work order, he had know idea as to what he was
doing. He continually told me that maybe it wasn't in my area yet.

Then when he called his supervisor, he kept trying to tell me the same thing. I
was pretty frustrated, but not willing to give up on what I knew was offered in
my area. So I called the accessability department back, asked for the actual
model number of the box I needed, and got another appointment set up. They
tried to get me another appointment for that day. But the office had already
closed.

So on Tuesday, this awesome man who actually worked for Charter, came out. I
was very impressed by him, and told him so. He had 3 boxes with the number that
was supposed to have the narritive guide. All 3 had problems. After trying to
get just 1 to work, making multiple phone calls and not getting anywhere, he
decided to go to the warehouse himself. He promised me he would not leave me
hanging, and that he would be back. He said he was going to get it all set up
there, and then bring it back to my house, and hook it up.

And he did just that! Then he even showed me the buttons I needed to know, and
gave me an idea as to how the guide worked.

That man seriously deserves an award!

He told me that he had just been trained on these boxes in the last day. He
said that hardly anyone seems to know about them, especially the
sub-contractors.

Yes, depending on the area you live in, will depend on what you are able to
receive. In some places, you are only offered an App. But I don't know if this
is the regular App that already exists, or something different.

So far, my experiences with the guide has been wonderful! I honestly did not
expect it to work as well as it has. I thought only part of it would work, or
that it would just be crappy!

The only things I can't seem to do yet, or maybe never, is search for stuff, or
look at my DVR settings. There may be a few other things I can't do. But if so,
I haven't found them just yet.

Oh yes, I had the man that came out on Tuesday, turn on the audio description
for me. I knew where to go, due to the guy from Monday, who thought that was
the narritive guide.
If I remember correctly, it's under settings, and then audio settings. Or
settings, accessability, and then audio settings. Either one of those is
correct. I just can't remember exactly which one is right.

I am going to try out the Iphone App again, soon. Although, I really don't feel
I have much use for it at the moment.

If anyone would like the main accessability number, please feel free to contact
me off-list.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Bluetooth headsets for use with IPhone 7

2016-12-29 Thread Mr. Ed

Wondered what do any of you recommend for a good comfortable Bluetooth had set
either in or over the ear that isn’t that expensive; but, has good quality and
accessible to with the possibility of audio prompts?

Thanks.

2016-12-29 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi to all,

I use hearing aids and have a severe hearing loss. These Logitech H800 that I
give a description below work great with my over the ear hearing aids.

RE: OT: Spectrum and Accessibility

2016-12-29 Thread pattigj1206
This is true, the techs who came readily admitted this was a "rush" job and
that is why nothing is as it should be.
They waited too long, as you say.
I am very seriously considering getting a TIVO which is accessible, that would
solve my dvr issues, and if I record a show that has AD it will play back from
the TiVo that way.

I have tried the TWC iPhone app on my iPhone 6+, and I can watch channels live,
but I haven't found a way yet to turn audio description on and off. I wouldn't
count on the accessibility office to know the answer right away, though they
are willing to research things.

We also said "no" to the laptop option. By talking with two different members
of the escalation team and asking the same question more than once, we were
able to get one of the techs to program the remotes for our set top box to
toggle SAP on and off with one button press instead of the 8-key sequence
required. Had the company embraced accessibility before the CVAA went into
effect, they would already know this stuff instead of having to figure it out
as they go.

The Apple ID conundrum when it comes to sharing family photos

2016-12-29 Thread Robin Christopherson
Dear listers

Currently my wife and I share the same Apple ID for photos which means that we
both get a synched view of all photos and videos taken on all our iDevices.
However there are down-sides to this approach too. Is there any way we can
share all our photos without having the same Apple ID? I’m aware that you can
create shared albums but you always have to manually add photos to shared
albums. It seems like you can use Family Sharing for apps and many other
things, but when it comes to photos you need to use this shared album approach
and also pay separately for the storage they take up.

Thanks, Robin

RE: Bluetooth headsets

2016-12-29 Thread gs
I also highly recommend the HBS 1100. The utility of it is the most desirable
attribute. It’s not going to bowl you over with bass, but it sounds ok. The
ability to simply pull out one or both ear buds whenever you need them is quite
wonderful. The latency is ok; not perfect. I have seen other blue tooth devices
with less. However, it’s not bad either.

I’m going to have to re-purchase it because someone lost mine. Going to check
to see if there is possibly an updated version since I am not certain when the
1100 was released.

They run around $90 I believe.

Oh trust me, they know. The rep that set up my appointment called after to see
how it went and I told him everything. The gentlemen who came to set up the
laptop have my name and have sent in a full report on this experience to TW.
They said they would call me as soon as they find out when better accessibility
will be available. I told them that I wanted the box. Which is what I asked
for in the beginning but was told that was not what I was going to get. I am
glad I went through with the appointment anyhow just to show them what would
not work.

So we'll see what happens. Thing is I don't think our Time Warner company have
totally merged with everybody else.
They are still calling themselves Time
Warner. When we went from Insight to TW, they still made us use the old
equipment from Insight, rather than bring in new. The wheels of whatever,
grind slow around here, trust me.

Okay, here is the numer to the recently created accessibility group at

in the accessible box. You do not have to accept a laptop. Mike Arrigo, who
posts to this list has the box and speaks very highly about its functionality.
I certainly trust his comments on his experiences with the box. The key
question is when the boxes will be available system wide. The reps may not know
that. But they are the ones responsible for taking our calls and registering us
in their database as interested and in need of these boxes. Good luck.

That’s very interesting. That indicates they haven’t fully merged the services
into one unified platform.

Spectrum is the branding for Charter Communications. They just finished taking
over Bright House Networks here in central Florida.

Good to know, at least, that the accessibility may leave something wanting.
I’m glad I at least have NFB Newsline to tell me what is on each channel at a

www.acb.org

Spectrum or Time Warner ,whatever they are calling themselves now, have three

location.

So what they wanted to give me was a laptop with the guide on it. That was it.
No receiver or box, no way to manage a dvr, no way to manage menus, to turn on

I said this was not acceptable, what my definition of full accessibility is. I
can get the guide on my phone, o I should be able to.

So they didn’t set up the laptop. And besides, when I asked them to disable
the mouse, it wouldn’t work at all, using the keys, to access the guide. The
screen reader is NVDA, by the way which is fine.

But it really was not of any use to me.

Again, according to your location, you may get the receiver, as it seems Terri

RE: OT my experience with spectrum re accessibility

2016-12-29 Thread Bill Outman
That’s very interesting. That indicates they haven’t fully merged the services
into one unified platform.

Spectrum is the branding for Charter Communications. They just finished taking
over Bright House Networks here in central Florida.

Good to know, at least, that the accessibility may leave something wanting.
I’m glad I at least have NFB Newsline to tell me what is on each channel at a
given time, but have no idea for instance how I would access described
programming.
