RE: Sieghard Weitzel

2017-05-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Nancy,

I Googled "Reading ePub books on a PC" and found a number of ways to do this.
There are free applications and also extensions for Firefox and Google Chrome,
I just never have done this either since the only ePub book I have is Jonathan
Mosen's book and I would use Voice Dream Reader on my iPhone to read it. If you
write to Jonathan he can also send you the book in Word or PDF format and maybe
even in text format or you could Google "epub to PDF converter" and you will
probably find online converters which can convert it so you could then use
Acrobat Reader to read it.
I never read eBooks since I work with my computer all day long and when I read
for pleasure I want to hear a human voice so for me it's Audible all the way.

Regards,
Sieghard

Sieghard ,

Per your suggestion, I got _IOS without the Eye_ in EPub format.

I have a VRStream that reads that format, but how do I read EPub on my PC?

Thank you for your suggestion and help.

RE: Emergency contacts

2017-05-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Peggy,

If you go to the Health app, tap on the Medical Id tab at the very bottom right
and then set up your medical Id you will have an on/off switch at the top which
controls whether your Medical Id will be available from the lock screen.
If you do turn this on, you first have to wake up your phone, then double tap
on the unlock button, then when you are on the screen with the keypad where you
enter your Pin you have a button called "Emergency Calls" at the bottom left,
double tap on that and on the next screen in the exact same location at the
bottom left will be the "Medical Id" button, tap it and all the information
including emergency contacts with their relationship to you, name and phone
numbers will be displayed.
Anybody who has your phone can call any of the contacts listed here without
having to unlock the phone simply by tapping on their name.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Chip,

OK, sorry, I guess this would make sense and this would be similar to how you
add a contact to Favourites. I guess the reason why I didn't describe it this
way was because I forgot that this is what happened and when I tried it earlier
today I used a contact which only had one number listed so it went straight to
where you select the relationship.

Hi once again!

OK, I found the key to success! You're not adding an entire contact's info,
but only one of their phone numbers! So, you tap on "add emergency contact",
then tap on the contact, and then finally tap on one of their phone numbers,
and then you are asked for the relationship.

I added my wife twice, once for home and once for mobile.

Does this sound right to the rest of you guys?

I see the button labeled "add emergency contact" which opens up your list of

I have been trying a single finger double tap, but that just opens up all the
options for the contact (to call, to message, to edit, etc), but I think my
problem may be that I don't know the proper way to just "select" the contact so
that I can close the list of contacts. It's probably not to double tap the
contact?

What Richard says about downloading the voice is correct, but nonetheless if
you are running iOS 10 and of course your friend would be if she has an iPhone
7 then all the voices should be there and any you haven’t downloaded will
simply have a download button next to them.

There you will have the default voice, Punctuation, then rotor voices.
You will have to select and download the voices one at a time.

Go into the speech settings for VoiceOver and you should be able to select them

RE: Emergency contacts

2017-05-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just to emphasize this one more time, when I do this I am in the Health app, I
double tap on "Medical Id" at the bottom right, now that my medical Id is set
up I double tap on "Edit" at the very bottom.
Now when I'm where I can edit the information I swipe past the 3 emergency
contacts I have already set up, my wife, my brother and my mother, then I am on
where it says "Add Emergency Contact", Voiceover does not identify this as a
button, but I double tap on this and my contacts open up.
I now find the contact I want and double tap on it which really is the only
thing you can do, there is no action rotor or "More Info".
Once I double tap on it I get a screen with a cancel button at the top left, if
I swipe right from there or touch at the top of the screen Voiceover says
"Relationship" which is a heading. Underneath this is a list, I have the
following choices:
Mother
Father
Parent
Brother
Sister
Child
Friend
Spouse
Partner
Assistant
Manager
Other
Roommate
Doctor
Emergency
As soon as I double tap any of these I am back in the main editing screen for
my medical Id and the person I selected is now listed with the label I chose.
The name when it is spoken is followed by "Text Field", but double tapping on
it doesn't do anything, but there is a delete rotor option if you want to
delete one of them.
If this is not how it works for you then I have no idea why it is different.

Sieghard

Hi again Sieghard,

I still cannot get this to work either.

I see the button labeled "add emergency contact" which opens up your list of
contacts, but exactly what do you do in this list to choose a contact?

I have been trying a single finger double tap, but that just opens up all the
options for the contact (to call, to message, to edit, etc), but I think my
problem may be that I don't know the proper way to just "select" the contact so
that I can close the list of contacts. It's probably not to double tap the
contact?

Thanks,

Chip

Yes, this sounds right, but for some reason I could only get my emergency

2017-05-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
All the voices are listed whether they are downloaded or not.
After you tap on speech tap on “Voice” which is the first button.
If I do this I have headings for all the different english dialects, e.g.
English Australia, English Ireland, English South Africa, English UK and
English US.
Once I get to English US I swipe right, the first is Alex, then Allison, Ava,
Fred, Samantha, SIRI Female, SIRI Male, Susan, Tom and Victoria.

I did go into the Speech/voice option but the only voices showing are Fred and
Samantha but perhaps the other two have not completed the download as they are
both large files. I did not think of this earlier so I will just try to be
patient and my friend also. LOL!

Hello,
Go into the speech settings for VoiceOver and you should be able to select them
from there. You will need to find American English and double tap that, and you
should see all the voices there. There have been some bugs in the past with
voices not downloading, so make sure the phone is updated to the latest version
of iOS.

Re: New app for finding traffic lights

2017-05-08 Thread Erjon B. Hatillari
Hey Marie and Andy,

I don't have the DATA for New York yet. Sometimes municipalities need a
little bit of push. When i came here in Halifax i asked CNIB to step in and
they sent an email to the city and i got the DATA the very next day. If you
know any institute near you, contact them and tell them about this app and
perhaps they can send an official request to the department of
transportation.

Thanks for getting in touch.

It's also depending on when your iPhone was last backed up. If it was less
backed up like during the night, it may not have unless call that you made

is the emergency contacts in the Health app only on newer devices?
I have the 5s and I'm not finding any place to identify emergency contacts.

I'm not able to search for music in "for you" and add to apple music

2017-05-08 Thread Larry Lumpkin
I used to could search in the "for you" window and see results and add to
library because I have a subscription to apple music. I can't seem to do
this any longer in the latest itunes. Any ideas?

RE: Emergency contacts

2017-05-08 Thread Chip Orange
Hi once again!

OK, I found the key to success! You're not adding an entire contact's info,
but only one of their phone numbers! So, you tap on "add emergency contact",
then tap on the contact, and then finally tap on one of their phone numbers,
and then you are asked for the relationship.

I added my wife twice, once for home and once for mobile.

Does this sound right to the rest of you guys?

Thanks,

Chip

I still cannot get this to work either.

I see the button labeled "add emergency contact" which opens up your list of
contacts, but exactly what do you do in this list to choose a contact?

I have been trying a single finger double tap, but that just opens up all the
options for the contact (to call, to message, to edit, etc), but I think my
problem may be that I don't know the proper way to just "select" the contact so
that I can close the list of contacts. It's probably not to double tap the
contact?

RE: Playing Two Bluetooth Speakers In Stereo

2017-05-08 Thread Chip Orange
Hi Arnold,

As Michael says, the speakers must be designed to do this. I purchased two Jam
Plus units more than 2 years ago, and they are absolutely wonderful at doing
this ... while one is very small and portable when you just want that. They
have switches you set on their bottoms to indicate if they are being used in
mono mode (just one) or stereo mode (using both).

They are still for sale on Amazon for around $29 each (I looked a few days
ago); the link is:

Subject: Playing Two Bluetooth Speakers In Stereo

I have heard this is possible, but do not know how to do it. When I first got
my Bose Soundlink, before I sold my Jawbone Jambox, I tried this. They both
played, but were not in stereo. If it can be done, how do I do it? I could buy
another Soundlink and have a very portable stereo. ,Thanks for any information.

Re: Voices on IPhone 7

2017-05-08 Thread Richard Turner

did you go into the VoiceOver settings, then Speech?
There you will have the default voice, Punctuation, then rotor voices.
You will have to select and download the voices one at a time.
Especially Alex since it is almost a gigabyte.

Hello,
Go into the speech settings for VoiceOver and you should be able to select them
from there. You will need to find American English and double tap that, and you
should see all the voices there. There have been some bugs in the past with
voices not downloading, so make sure the phone is updated to the latest version
of iOS.

Question about iPad Wifi + Cellular

2017-05-08 Thread christopher hallsworth
Evening everyone.

I am considering the idea of acquiring an iPad model with wifi + cellular
connectivity for times my home wi-fi is unavailable. So here is a beginner
style question. Where is the sim tray located? Is it at the back compared to
the right hand side on the iPhone? Thanks.

Hi Chris. The stand-alone mode doesn’t give you much in the new version. I

know if categories appear. I’ll check mine when I get to my feeds.

Hi all,

I am using lire version 3.0.12.

I went to add a subscription, and couldn’t find any categories to choose from.
Every time I press add subscription, I am put in a search box right away.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or could offer any
suggestions on what I should do?
