Re: Niv text version of the Bible wioutout the footnotes andreferences.

2019-11-13 Thread terri elliott
Hi Doc. Success! I had to recopy the Niv Bible again onto the thumb drive.
This time it copied the whole folder without any error messages coming up. Now
all I have to do is to figure out how to find the chapter and verse I want to
look up. Take care.

I suspect it is similar or cheaper at Amazon.
I know the Logitech H800 is about $10 less at Best Buy or Amazon than at
Walmart.
I think Carolyn has already dismiss the Bose as an option given their price tag

wouldn’t recommend them, I have tried all sorts of these including
relatively expensive ones and they never work as well as I would like them to

I am always surprised at the implementation of /Bluetooth even on new

as using /Bluetooth on an iPhone.

I have Bluetooth speakers which work perfectly and with hardly ever a
single drop out on my iPhone, but if I connect them to my PC it’s
choppy and just not good.

You can have two things to switch between.

A bluetooth paired item, like a cell phone.

Then something with a usb port that can route the audio through the
USB dongle, normally a computer.

I've not heard of TV'S with a USB audio out port, or bluetooth for
that matter.

There is a three position switch on the back of the right ear.

Off, Bluetooth, and RF usb which communicates through the little dongle.

Thanks. Removing the old, and starting over did the trick.

My original plan was to leave the old one, and add a new one in case my
fingerprint had temporarily changed due to dry skin. But that didn’t work.

Did you make sure the Touch Id home button was also clean? Could be as simple
as very dry hands or a small cut. If it doesn’t resolve itself just delete all
fingerprints and redo them.

After a bit more research, I've learned that around 200 movies are audio
described at launch, as well as the original shows they are creating for the
service, such as, "The World Accordign to Jeff Goldbloom." Setting the audio
description up is another story. I had to use Team Viewer on my computer with
Aira to set the option. The app is accessible, but there are spots where it has
some accessibility issues and other bugs, such as within the media player.
Anyway, once the audio description is enabled, it remains so on all devices
used to access the service. In other words, I set it with Aira's help on my
computer, and when I started watching the same show on my phone, I heard the
audio description. I read a comment on AppleVis on the Disney Plus app
directory entry that Disney has been made aware of the issues and are working
on fixes. There is a free 7 day trial before subscriptions start, so it is
worth checking out for fans of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Muppets, and
more.

RE: Has anyone experienced this?

2019-11-13 Thread Karen Poulakos
With the colder weather, my hands have been pretty dry. I thought that might
be the problem, so I added a fingerprint. That didn’t help.

I’ll give Apple Accessibility a call tomorrow.

Did you make sure the Touch Id home button was also clean? Could be as simple
as very dry hands or a small cut. If it doesn’t resolve itself just delete all
fingerprints and redo them.

Re: Managing Subscriptions on the iPhone

2019-11-13 Thread regina alvarado
Hi, On app store double tap and hold. This brings up the context menu. Swipe to
updates. Double tap and when the app store opens swipe from the top of the
page. I think it is about the third item down. It is my subscriptions or
something like that. Double tap and you are in the page to manage your
subscriptions. Hope this helps.

Re: Disney Plus accessibility and described movies

2019-11-13 Thread Wayne Merritt
After a bit more research, I've learned that around 200 movies are
audio described at launch, as well as the original shows they are
creating for the service, such as, "The World Accordign to Jeff
Goldbloom." Setting the audio description up is another story. I had
to use Team Viewer on my computer with Aira to set the option. The app
is accessible, but there are spots where it has some accessibility
issues and other bugs, such as within the media player. Anyway, once
the audio description is enabled, it remains so on all devices used to
access the service. In other words, I set it with Aira's help on my
computer, and when I started watching the same show on my phone, I
heard the audio description. I read a comment on AppleVis on the
Disney Plus app directory entry that Disney has been made aware of the
issues and are working on fixes. There is a free 7 day trial before
subscriptions start, so it is worth checking out for fans of Disney,
Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Muppets, and more.

Re: Please Join Me in Requesting that the Developers of the Audible for iOS / iPad OS App Add a Playback Sound Equalizer Feature

2019-11-13 Thread Richard Turner
in the US, an annual Gold membership is $149 for 12 credits.
That is roughly $12.50 per credit.
The idea of being able to return books is if you are dissatisfied with the book.
Returning them for any other reason is unethical at best.
The Audible app is easy to use.
Personally I'm waiting for the commercial books to show up on BARD Mobile,
which many more are doing these days.
The subject line was about adding an equalizer, but it was based on a false
premiss.
BARD has a tone setting, but it is not in three separate parts, which a true
equalizer would have been.
You can adjust the Tone setting to more bass, normal, or more treble, but you
cannot say; add more bass, and at the same time add more mid-range.

I have the option to buy 3 extra credits every time I have only 1 credit left

I always see that option.

I am going to have to agree with Marry deleting books in the app is a pain.
They shouldn't have ever changed the way it use to work. @Josh I would have to
really hate my books to return them. I am hoping to build up a massive library

RE: Help needed navigating Photos app to attach a screen recording to an email

2019-11-13 Thread Alan Lemly
Sieghard,

As always, your help below is spot on. Thanks so much for directing me to the
Albums button where everything is laid out as you described. I should have done
more exploring but I got focused on trying to puzzle out how things were
organized under the Photos tab and got lost in the process. Also, thanks for
directing me to the iCloud program on my computer where I did not have Photos
ticked for storage in iCloud. Operator error seems to be the source of most of
my problems under this thread.

I was able to reply to the Apple Accessibility email and attach my screen
recording after digesting your excellent instructions. Thanks again.

In the Photos app I usually select the “Albums” tab at the bottom, then if you
start from the top you have items like this:

See All button

Recents, 564 photos (that is what it says on my phone)

Favorites, 4 Favourites (again, that is the number on my phone, you can mark
any number of pictures as Favorites)

WhatsApp, 21 photos (those are photos people sent to you in WhatsApp if you use
it, if not you probably wouldn’t have this at all)

Seeing AI photos, 2 photos (again, probably specific to everybody’s phone and
their usage of the Seeing AI app)

Next is a heading called “Shared Albums”, if you haven’t shared any nothing
will be under this heading.

First there again is a “See All” button, then whatever shared albums you have
with the names you gave them.

Next is the heading “People and Places”

In my case I have:

People, 2 photos

Places, 490 photos)

Next is “media types” and this is the heading you want. You can, by the way,
turn the rotor to headings at the top and then swipe down to get to all these
headings.

Under Media Types I have the following:

Videos, 51

Selfies, 10

Live Photos, 82

Bursts, 7

Screenshots,4

Screen Recordings, 1

As you can see if you turn the rotor to headings and then flick down to Media
Types you can then swipe right to Screen Recordings, double tap on it and you
see all your screen recordings. Tap on any of them and then find the share
button.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi List,

I'm corresponding with Apple Accessibility regarding loss of focus in the
native Mail app when expanding and contracting message threads. They asked me
to make a screen recording of the loss of focus issue with Mail and gave me
excellent instructions on how to create the recording. Apparently, what I
really needed was instructions on how to locate the recording from within the
Photos app after making it. I'll admit that I scarcely ever use the Photos app
but I find it to be one of the least intuitive apps I've ever used with
VoiceOver and limited vision. I need to be able to reply to the Apple
Accessibility email and provide either a link or an attachment to the recorded
video I made on my iPhone. I can do this either with my desktop computer and
Outlook or the native Mail app. My problem is that I can't for the life of me
figure out how to find the recorded video I made when attempting to access it
with the Photos app. If there is order and reason to how the Photos app
presents its content, I haven't been able to figure it out without vision. I
have iCloud turned on for photos but I also can't locate the recorded video on
my desktop computer in my iCloud Drive folder. I would have thought it worked
like Dropbox and automatically uploaded to iCloud.

If someone could offer some guidance on how to find the recorded video made on
my iPhone 8 so I can submit it with an email to which I'm replying, I would be
forever grateful. I'm running iOS 13.2.2.

RE: reclaiming space on my iphone

2019-11-13 Thread Marcia Yale
Deleting books from Audible should definitely free up space. Just make sure you
have it set to "device" and then you need to hit the delete button beside each
book--it's not as intuitive as it could be.

Subject: reclaiming space on my iphone

Hi,

I was looking at the memory usage of my iphone 8 last night and noticed that I
have used 60gb of my 64 gb.

Looking at the apps I see that overcast has used 20gb and audible has used 17gb.

How do I reduce the space used by these two apps?

I tried deleting books from audible, but that doesn't seem to help, and as yet
I haven't figured out how to delete downloaded podcasts from overcast.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, they are only $349.00 US at Walmart.
You could buy almost 6 of the H800 for the same price.
20 hours of battery life is quite impressive, but not worth that much to me.
Yes, they probably sound amazing too,.

I am sure they are quite nice, but the discussion about the Logitech H800
focused more on it's ability to connect to a PC via a USB dongle as well as to
an iPhone via Bluetooth and the fact that they only cost $60.
I doubt you find a Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II for that price, here in Canada they
cost $449 at Best Buy. The ability to use Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
natively on the headset is interesting and a great feature, but if I think
about what else I can buy for this amount many other things come to mind first.

Carolyn,
They come with a very small USB dongle that transmit the audio to the
headphones over a specific Radio Frequency; at least I believe that is what RF
stands for.
So, you could pair them via Bluetooth with the computer instead of the
phone, but they are designed to pair with the phone via Bluetooth and the
computer via the USB dongle.
In the box, the little USB dongle was tightly in the middle of the
plastic that the headphones sit in, inside the box.
But, there is a cover on the left earpiece that you can turn about an
eighth of a turn and remove, and there is a spot in there to store the USB
dongle when not in use.
The cover has a dot on it that is tactile, and one on the rim of the
opening that is also tactile. If you line them up, the cover can come off, or
you line them up when putting it back on and then turn it clockwise about an
eighth of a turn or less and it locks into place.
I like them very much and seem to be getting at least 5 or 6 hours out
of a charge in the first couple of days.

Walmart does carry them, but they charge $72, while Amazon and Best Buy
are 60.99 and 61.99 respectively.

only difference is that my password on the IPhone had an exclamation at the

A tip for disappearing keyboards

2019-11-13 Thread Duane Steele
Hello iPhone friends,

Recent notes to this list have included several from users of Braille devices
about disappearing keyboards. Unfortunately for us, if our qwerty keyboards
vanish, we sometimes don't know they're hiden until we're away from our Braille
devices. The keyboards hide sometimes just because we've forgotten to check to
see if they're there or not. On our devices, hiding or showing qwerty keyboards
is toggled by using the space bar plus keys 1, 4 and 6 (the sh sign). My advice
is to go into a text field and press those keys to be sure your keyboard's
visible, and not hiden. Unfortunately, there's no way to bring back the
keyboard if your Braille device is somewhere else. Maybe this issue will be
addressed in future updates. Meantime, check it before turning off your braille
device.

Peace & Blessings,
Duane L. Steele

RE: Adding call ability to favorites iOS 13.2.2

2019-11-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I do have WhatsApp installed and yes, it does say Call, WhatsApp or Call via
WhatsApp, but if you double tap the “expand” thingi which comes if you swipe
right you then have all your numbers listed for the contact and you can select
any of them. I just tried it and selected Mobile and the entry was added to
call that person on their mobile.
If anything it’s just the way Voiceover reads it, but if you expand either Call
or Video Call all the options are still there.

I just tested it on my work iPhone that is running 13.2.2.
I do not use Whatsapp, so Call work was an option on the one I tested.
My suspicion is that if you added it, even though it says call via Whatsapp,
the end result would be the same.
They can call you, and you can call them; and only the label is different.
As someone who doesn't use Whatsapp, that could be completely wrong.
Is there a unique number for Whatsapp?

RE: Bluetooth headphones

2019-11-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Don’t forget that they are still Bluetooth and while Bluetooth has certainly
improved with respect to sound quality it’s still not the same as a high-end
set of wired headphones or a Sennheiser wireless in that price class which
works with a digital transmitter. I am still waiting for Sonos to release a
headset and I would have no problem paying $400 or $500 for that, but also only
if it had replaceable batteries because there is simply no point in paying that
much for a device which has a 4 or 5 year life span because after that the
built-in lithium battery doesn’t hold much of a charge any more.

Well, they are only $349.00 US at Walmart.
You could buy almost 6 of the H800 for the same price.
20 hours of battery life is quite impressive, but not worth that much to me.

cost $449 at Best Buy. The ability to use Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
natively on the headset is interesting and a great feature, but if I think
about what else I can buy for this amount many other things come to mind first.

There are, however, Bluetooth dongles which you can plug into 3.5mm

wouldn’t recommend them, I have tried all sorts of these including
relatively expensive ones and they never work as well as I would like them to

I am always surprised at the implementation of /Bluetooth even on new

I have Bluetooth speakers which work perfectly and with hardly ever a

You can have two things to switch between.

A bluetooth paired item, like a cell phone.

Then something with a usb port that can route the audio through the
USB dongle, normally a computer.

I've not heard of TV'S with a USB audio out port, or bluetooth for
that matter.

There is a three position switch on the back of the right ear.

Off, Bluetooth, and RF usb which communicates through the little dongle.

Re: Adding call ability to favorites iOS 13.2.2

2019-11-13 Thread Richard Turner
I just tested it on my work iPhone that is running 13.2.2.
I do not use Whatsapp, so Call work was an option on the one I tested.
My suspicion is that if you added it, even though it says call via Whatsapp,
the end result would be the same.
They can call you, and you can call them; and only the label is different.
As someone who doesn't use Whatsapp, that could be completely wrong.
Is there a unique number for Whatsapp?

RE: Help needed navigating Photos app to attach a screen recording to an email

2019-11-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Tap on any of them and then find the share
button.

Sieghard

2019-11-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you have Photos turned on in iCloud Control Panel then the folder is usually
in your Pictures folder and I think by default it is called “iCloud Photos”, in
that folder you should have subfolders for Downloads, Shared and Uploads. Look
under Downloads.

RE: Bluetooth headphones

2019-11-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You asked about using it for a TV, the PC is no problem, all you have to do is
plug in the little USB receiver, it is already paired to the headset so once
that is plugged in and the slider switch is pushed all the way up to the top
it will automatically work. If you push it up one click into the middle
position which is Bluetooth you then have to look in Settings > Bluetooth on
your iPhone and see if the Logitech H800 are listed, tap on them and they will
also pair. This is just a one-time process, after that whenever you push the
switch into the middle position they reconnect to your iPhone automatically.

Walmart does carry them, but they charge $72, while Amazon and Best Buy
are 60.99 and 61.99 respectively.

RE: Appliance App Accessibility

2019-11-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Todd,

My wife and I purchased a GE Café induction range and the only way for me to
use the oven is via the GE Kitchen app or using Geneva via an Alexa speaker.
The induction cooktop has regular dial controls, very nice stainless steel ones
at that.
The range we bought has two ovens, a smaller upper oven and a larger
full-featured lower oven with true European convection heat and so on. The
upper oven is meant more for simple baking, doing frozen fries, keeping
something war etc.
I used to use the Geneva app, but found that often it was getting confused, it
would tell me I still had a certain number of minutes left on the timer, for
example, and it then asked if I wanted to clear that. I said yes and it said it
cleared the timer, but next time it would say the exact same thing and at times
it would turn the oven off once those minutes had counted down.
I mostly just use the app now although I wish GE would get their act together
and make it a lot better than it is. I think it only gets 1.5 Stars on the app
store, but while there is a lot of clutter on the screen and sometimes
Voiceover reads stuff that visually isn’t there, it is useable. I can select
which oven I want to use, set the mode, e.g. Bake, Broil, Convection Bake etc.
and then I can set the temperature and, if I want to use it, the timer.
I also discovered that the included meat probe shows up in the app if I plug it
in and I was able to set a temperature with Voiceover which once it was reached
should then turn off the oven.
What is missing from the app at least as far as I can tell are functions like
the self-cleaning, I also don’t see a keep warm function which I believe my
wife can choose on the touch screen.
How well this would work with multiple GE appliances such as a microwave, range
and/or dishwasher I don’t know. Like I said, it could use serious improvements,
but I can use the oven and for me that is what counts.
One thing to remember is that before you can use the app or use Alexa voice
control you have to enable the remote connectivity. This is done by pressing a
button on the touch screen. My wife has marked that button with a tactile dot,
but you have to be careful because the touch screen is super sensitive so often
I use a towel to first find the dot and then touching it through the towel I
peal it away and touch right under the dot which is how she has marked it.
Also, when you set a timer and it finishes you get a constant beeping on the
oven which even though the oven is already turned off you have to cancel by
touching the touch screen near the bottom left corner, but not a difficult
place to also mark with a dot.
All in all this range is amazing, we love it and I don’t regret the $4,500
Canadian price tag.
Unfortunately we had bought a Samsung microwave a few years ago which is also
an exhaust fan and mounted over top of the range, It’s OK, but of course maybe
at some point down the road I’d like to replace it with a GE microwave as they
offer the same type of design where it is mounted over the range and includes
your exhaust fan.
When it comes to dishwashers I think it is Bosch all the way, they are so
incredibly quiet and well-made and even though ours is not accessible out of
the box, we mostly just use one program which is called Speed perfect and my
wife has marked the on/off button, where I have to touch for speed perfect and
then where I have to touch to start (the model we have, the 800 series, also
has touch controls all the way across the top sort of on the inside of the
recessed handle.
The washer and dryer we have are Miele, again, not really accessible, but any
settings are done with actual tactile push buttons so with some instructions I
wrote down and, if need be, an Aira agent who can check the display for me it’s
not a problem.
Our last major upgrade would be our fridge, I bought it about 23 years ago and
it was not an expensive one back then. Not sure yet what we’ll do there, but I
doubt we get a smart fridge since I just don’t see the point. For me a fridge
does not need to send me notifications as to what’s in it and I don’t want to
waste time scanning in stuff and entering expiry dates and all that, it is not
so hard to manage the content of your fridge the good old fashion way.

Best regards,
Sieghard

microwave control? If so what is your opinion of the app? Trying to choose
smart appliances for a new house.

Thanks,

Todd
