A couple of weeks ago, someone graciously suggested I download the Does app for

Hi everyone hope you're all doing well and staying safe. I have a record
label discography that I would like to sync to my iPod touch buy record
label I know that Apple Music doesn't really support this as such is there
a way to add the record label discography folder in the Finder directly to
a playlist? Or is there any way I can use a smart playlist to add the
record label discography to my iPod touch?
Also can I sync the record label discography folder directly from my Finder
in a play list format or do I have to use Apple Music to do this? Your
help with this situation would be most welcome everyone thanks again for
your help :-)

RE: Touchscreen laptops

2020-11-06 Thread Simon A Fogarty
But in the case of the del latitude devices,
It's sounding to me like a 15 inch notebook,
Which has the full keyboard and number pad on the right side of the keyboard.

I can't say I'm a fan of the windows touch screen machines but that's a
personal thing
Mainly due to my knuckles brushing the screen if typing at the top of the
keyboard,
If they have touch screen models of dell latitude,
Check with them on non touch screen models as I'd think they would bee or
should be cheaper,

But the latitude is a good make of machine,

I spent a lot of time early this year working with the 5400 and 5500 series
models.

Most models come with a non touch version. That could bring down the price. I
feel the Apple products make for a better touch experience, but that could be
that I'm just more accustomed to iOS gestures.

Apple music

Has anyone noticed since iOS 14.1 or so that a lot of elements in Apple music
aren’t labeled or that it just seems a lot more buggy than it used to? For me,
iOS 14 started out really nice, and I didn’t notice a lot of the bugs others
talked about in this list, but all of a sudden Apple Music is all kinds of
messed up.

How to Return Amazon Items the Right Way: Fast, Easy and Usually Free, cNet

2020-11-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am posting the following article because I know that many of us make
purchases from Amazon via our Apple Devices.

Just two days ago, I returned an item because of some cosmetic damage that
must have occurred during shipping.

To my delight, I received a replacement product, today.

Got to hand it to Amazon; when it comes to convenience, they are second to
none.

I hope you find the article as useful as I.

Mark

How to return Amazon items the right way: Fast, easy and usually free
Send back Amazon purchases just as easily and conveniently as you ordered
them -- from the comfort of your own home.
By Angela Lang, cNet.
Posted on Nov. 2, 2020.

Don't spend a single penny returning your unwanted Amazon package if you
don't have to -- not even on gas.

Amazon has earned its reputation by making online shopping fast and easy,
and package delivery free, but the same can't always be said about its
return process. Although Amazon's plethora of return options does mean more
choices when shipping back purchases, Amazon often presents only the default
return method, making you dig for cheaper or more convenient ways to send
your stuff back.

Amazon's preferred return service very well could be the most convenient for
you, if, for example, you live near a Kohl's. All Kohl's store accept Amazon
returns, and have been known to hand out Kohl's coupons while you're there.
But if a trip to Kohl's isn't on your itinerary any time soon, accidentally
clicking that option -- or a different one -- can add an unnecessary errand
to your list.

If you'd rather return items to Amazon the same way you ordered them --
without ever having to trek beyond your own front door -- here's the quick,
easy and (oftentimes) free way to send stuff back.

If you're already a Kohl's shopper, it might be convenient to return Amazon
purchases there.

Give a reason, not an excuse
The first thing Amazon will ask after you start the return process is the
reason for your return. It's important to be as honest and precise here as
possible. Amazon, as well as Amazon's third-party sellers, will want to
resell merchandise in good working order (like Amazon does through Amazon
Warehouse Deals) so your items will be checked against your return reason.

Not only can misclassifying a return result in negative repercussions to
your Amazon account (the company has been known to ban shoppers who misuse
the return process), you also might end up paying for return shipping when
you didn't need to.

For example, if you select "no longer needed" by default, you may be charged
for the return. If your reason for return is actually more specific, you may
not.

Here are all the various return reasons Amazon gives you to choose from as
well as a description of exactly what they mean:
. No longer needed: You changed your mind and don't want the item any
more.
. Bought by mistake: You accidentally hit Buy it Now or forgot to
delete an item from your cart before checking out.
. Better price available: You find the same thing at, say, Walmart for
less than what you paid for it at Amazon.
. Inaccurate website description: Example: The photo shows a deep
royal blue, but the item is a light sky blue. Similar to but different from
"Wrong item was sent" (see below).
. Item defective or doesn't work: Could be that it's broken or simply
doesn't do what it's designed to do (for example, a can opener that spins up
but doesn't cut the lid off).
. Product damaged, but shipping box OK: The box isn't dented, cut or
scratched, but the item inside has cosmetic or mechanical damage.
. Item arrived too late: The item was delivered past the guaranteed
delivery and missed, for example, a birthday.
. Missing or broken parts: Similar to "Item was defective or doesn't
work" but applies not to the item itself but the attachments, etc. that come
with it.
. Product and shipping box both damaged: Somewhere between being boxed
up and arriving at your door, the package was mishandled, and the product
arrives broken.
. Wrong item was sent: If you received a completely different item,
not just that the size, shape or color wasn't what you selected (see
"Inaccurate website description").
. Received extra item I didn't buy: Something extra got packaged with
your order, and you feel obliged to return it.
. Didn't approve purchase: Someone, either in your family (a child, a
spouse) or a friend (say, one on whose computer you logged into Amazon and
forgot to log out) ordered something and you got charged.

Tell Amazon where to send your refund
Next you'll have to choose how you want your money back. The quickest way is
to receive a credit to your Amazon account, which Amazon will issue as soon
as UPS scans your return into its system. But then you're stuck spending the
money at Amazon.

You can also have the funds put back on your debit or credit card. But even
though Amazon will issue the refund as soon as UPS

RE: App to track movies you have seen

2020-11-06 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I keep track of the books I've read in a file as well, but I suppose for books
someone could check out the Good Reads app. I haven't taken a look at it myself
though. I have sent in some feedback to the BARD team so that you could use
BARD Express or the web page to keep track of the books you've read and not
just the books you've downloaded, but although they've been receptive to my
suggestions, I'm not sure they're getting enough feedback to make it worth
their while.

For movies, I've got nothing except for the same idea of using a file or spread
sheet. It's not as important to me to keep track of the movies I've watched
since the big reason I keep track of the books I've read is to keep track of
where I am in a series of books.

I forwarded this message to my iPhone and opened the link from the mail app,

Here is the link to the Apple Translate again.

See if it says to Open the app if you activate it on your phone.

I may have downloaded it earlier and just thought it appeared after iOS 14,
I’d believe just about anything right now.

You're not going to believe this, but here goes. I went into the App
Library and activated the drag option on the Translate app and dragged the
Translate app to my Home Screen. Well, I went to the Home Screen and loe
and behold it was Google Translate! LOL Go figure! That explains why
Translate wasn't installed into the Settings app, Google Translate is
already there.

You got me there.

I’d call Apple Accessibility at this point.

I would think dragging it out of the app library would put it on the home
screen, not just a shortcut, but, like I said, I have not dealt with the app
library.

Best of luck,

No I didn't move the app but, I had one hell of a time finding it! LOL

In the App Library with the Translate app selected, I turned the rotor to
Actions and now I'm able to access the drag option. If I drag the app to my
Home Screen will this put the app in Settings? From what I understand that
dragging the app will for lack of a better term create a shortcut on the
desktop but, the Translate app will physically remain in the App Library.

This is very interesting and confusing.

Did you move the app out of the Library?

I have not tried dealing with the extra layer of the App Library.

One way to do the long press in iOS 14 is a single finger triple tap…

Richard,

I don't have the Translate app in Settings, only in the App Library. I

Thanks in advance.

Here is the link to the Apple Translate again.
See if it says to Open the app if you activate it on your phone.

I may have downloaded it earlier and just thought it appeared after iOS 14, I’d
believe just about anything right now.

Oh yes, I remember this being under discussion sometime within the last year.
Yeah that’s a definite plus. I agree wholeheartedly! I’d forgotten about that

Re: new translation feature now available on iPhones

2020-11-06 Thread Mike B

I just tried it by typing in a phrase.

I then pressed the Go button which is where the Return button normally is on
the onscreen keyboard.

It showed the text translation.

I then double tapped the play button and it spoke it.

This is on my SE 1st generation.

It works the same on my SE 2020.

Something to be aware of.

On my phones, the translate settings are in the main settings screen between
News and Maps.

If On Device Mode is on, for me, I am stuck in a loop where it wants me to
download the languages, but never does.

I turned On Device Mode off and it works fine.

After you double tap the listen button, and finish your speaking, did you
flick right twice to finish and double tap?

You should hear the phrase and have it in the text field.

Hello,

does anyone know an iOS app to track movies you have seen? I checked out

RE: Air Pods Pro

2020-11-06 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I got a pair of Airpod Pro’s last summer. I was debating between the standard
Airpods and the Pro’s, and it was due to feedback on this list that I went with
the Pro’s. I have no regrets. The only downsides I see is the price and the
fact that transparency mode isn’t quite the same thing as just not having any
passive or active noise cancellation at all. The flip side to the noise
cancellation though is that you do get better sound quality.

Hi,

I have a pair and I love them except one thing. They tend to fall out of my
ears more than the original air pods did. I have messed with the ear tips that
came with them, but they still just fall out. Anyway, that is my two cents
worth. Other than that, I love them. The noise canceling is awesome!

After you double tap the listen button, and finish your speaking, did you flick

You should hear the phrase and have it in the text field.

There is a listen button about an inch and a half up from the home button,

if you have a home button.

Double tap that listen button, say what you want translated, then flick

Then, after a very short time, it says in Spanish what you said in English,

but says it so fast even if I understood Spanish, I am not sure I could get

it.

But, there is a play button that shows up then that plays the Spanish at a

more reasonable speed.

There does not seem to be a setting for speed at all.

I have not tried typing, but I suspect if you type, there is also the button

to translate, then you may hear or be able to read the other language.

If you use the app, you theoretically could have a conversation with someone
who speaks another language and have the iPhone be your translator.
It also says that if you have the phone landscaped, it will show each language
on its own half of the screen.
Plus, if you are trying to understand how words are written in that other
language, it shows you the text and you can store phrases as favorites.

I don’t understand what’s new about this other than it appears to be an app now
available on the phone. I use Siri and I simply ask something like how do you
say such and such in Spanish and I get an immediate answer and I can also go up
a liner down a line and remind myself what I’ve asked and what the wording is
and then I can arrow down and see the spelling and spell it out however I
please. So what is this big new feature? it sounds a bit more cumbersome to
use. It probably would be useful if you wanted to save all the stuff that you
had searched for which you can’t do when you use Siri because as soon as you
ask the next query it will only save just so much. Such as messages you might
get a string of messages that you’ve asked Siri to send but that’s only going
to go so far. And as soon as you leave the homepage and that screen there’s
nothing left to go back to to check. Or double check in this case.

Natural amplifier/stand

2020-11-06 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all, does anyone use a stand that naturally amplifies their phone and/or
iPad? I remember years ago, I set my iPod touch in a bowl and it naturally
amplified the music a bit. It was a silly, perfect solution on my dresser.

I’d love some sort of stand for my iPad mini. I often hold it cupped in my hand
at the bottom. This naturally amplifies the speech when I’m reading a article
or something.

Any suggestions, or do you own something that has worked for you?

Thanks,
Traci

RE: new translation feature now available on iPhones

2020-11-06 Thread Richard Turner
If you use the app, you theoretically could have a conversation with someone
who speaks another language and have the iPhone be your translator.
It also says that if you have the phone landscaped, it will show each language
on its own half of the screen.
Plus, if you are trying to understand how words are written in that other
language, it shows you the text and you can store phrases as favorites.

Subject: Re: new translation feature now available on iPhones

After you double tap the listen button, and finish your speaking, did you flick
right twice to finish and double tap?
You should hear the phrase and have it in the text field.

I just tried it with speaking.

It defaults to from English to Spanish.

There is a listen button about an inch and a half up from the home button,
if you have a home button.

Double tap that listen button, say what you want translated, then flick
twice to the right passed the close button to finished listening and double
tap.

It does also show the text of the Spanish, so it could kind of be used to
teach oneself some useful phrases I think.

Sadly, there are some pages that just do not work correctly with VoiceOver.
Do you have a computer to try it on?

Rarely, if I do the three finger swipe up to scroll below the troublesome field
and then do left single finger flicks to get back to it it becomes useable.
The other thing to check, is if it is a picker item and you double tap on it,
check lower on the screen. Sometimes, the picker list is near the bottom.

Hello Listers,

I'm trying to make a contribution to help my granddaughter on a project. When I
go to the first page, I'm told there's a picker item from which I must choose
the amount I wish to give. But all I'm getting is a blank page, and no such

this would correct the problem. But it doesn't. Any suggestions for completing
this transaction and supporting my granddaughter? Thanks.

Re: Air Pods Pro

2020-11-06 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi,

I have a pair and I love them except one thing. They tend to fall out of my
ears more than the original air pods did. I have messed with the ear tips that
came with them, but they still just fall out. Anyway, that is my two cents
worth. Other than that, I love them. The noise canceling is awesome!

Trying to make a contribution

2020-11-06 Thread Duane Steele
Hello Listers,

I'm trying to make a contribution to help my granddaughter on a project. When I
go to the first page, I'm told there's a picker item from which I must choose
the amount I wish to give. But all I'm getting is a blank page, and no such
item. I've tried changing the format options to show the reader view to see if
this would correct the problem. But it doesn't. Any suggestions for completing
this transaction and supporting my granddaughter? Thanks.

RE: Touchscreen laptops

2020-11-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are lots of 15 inch laptops out there which have a numeric pad. I don't
think you need to spend the extra money to get something with a touch screen
display, I did about 4 years ago and bought a fairly high-end Asus Zenbook with
a 4K resolution touch screen display and while I love the laptop I virtually
never ever use the touch s creen display. It's like Joe said, sometimes when
Jaws doesn't behave I might try, but it's literally 2 or 3 times a year and if
I didn't have it I would get by another way.

Thank you Joe, this is very useful. I too would rather keep my hands on a
keyboard. The only plus about this Dell latitude– I don’t remember the model
number right off is that it had a full-size keyboard that included numb pad.

2020-11-06 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
I spent a long time on the telephone with Apple Accessibility who went away and
consulted the engineers and then rang me back. And when we added my wife by
invitation to the HomePod suddenly a new toggle appeared with my name on which
was off! That toggle had not been there before but suddenly was there and when
I talk of it on suddenly everything started working. So, mysterious but a happy

RE: HomePod intercom not working

2020-11-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Might be time for a call to Apple Accessibility.
The way I understand this allows you to send a one-way message to another Home
Pod, is that correct? I don't think it gives you an open, full two-way
connection like the Drop-In feature on Amazon Echo speakers?
If so I don't think it's a feature I would find very useful just as I always
thought the WalkieTalkie feature on the Apple Watch was more of a gimmick.
I think given today's technology and fast networks you should be able to open
an Intercom connection which allows both people on each end to freely speak
just as on a speakerphone call except the quality of the connection should be
better than a regular call, more like a Facetime Audio call.

having enabled the intercom feature every time I ask Siri to activate it, Siri

Remember that to Email a video it will have to be reasonably short.
For most people, email attachments cannot be more than 5 or 10 MB.
The size will vary based on length and quality. The higher the quality, the
larger the file.

You can use the Camera app to create a video. At the bottom of the screen is a
picker where you can select the camera mode. When you get to that picker, you
can use the up and down arrow keys on a Bluetooth keyboard or flick up or down
with one finger until you get to the video mode. You will e told whether you
are focused on a person or not. After that, you can VO left/right arrow until
you find the record video button. Then press VO Space on a Bluetooth keyboard
or double-tap.

Re: 14.2 update question

2020-11-06 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I have always wondered what it is doing when it takes much longer to prepare
the update than it took to download it, sometimes longer than it takes to
install it. This is only my speculation, but I will bet that what it initially
downloads is an installer, which then goes out to get the actual files to
install. All that preparing is its gathering together the files to install.
Again, this is my speculation, I don't really know.

There is no set time, it takes what it takes. It seems to vary widely based on
internet speeds, and how busy the server is at the time you update.
Mine older SE did not take a half hour, but I've had updates in the past take
close to an hour and this is a big update.

I just tried it with speaking.

It defaults to from English to Spanish.

There is a listen button about an inch and a half up from the home button,
if you have a home button.

Double tap that listen button, say what you want translated, then flick
twice to the right passed the close button to finished listening and double
tap.

Then, after a very short time, it says in Spanish what you said in
English, but says it so fast even if I understood Spanish, I am not sure I
could get it.

But, there is a play button that shows up then that plays the Spanish at a
more reasonable speed.

There does not seem to be a setting for speed at all.

I have not tried typing, but I suspect if you type, there is also the
button to translate, then you may hear or be able to read the other
language.

It does also show the text of the Spanish, so it could kind of be used to
teach oneself some useful phrases I think.

Has anyone else tried it out yet?

RE: Touchscreen laptops

2020-11-06 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I have an HP Envy with a touch screen. My Dell at the office also has a touch
screen. I got the touch screen on the HP Envy mostly because it was a good
deal, but also because I wanted the flexibility of being able to use a touch
screen. I end up using it so little though, that for my next laptop I would not
be spending extra for a touch screen. That's assuming touch screen technology
doesn't change a lot over the next few years.

The touch screen on your laptop will work similarly to your iPhone, although if
you're using a PC with JAWS, NVDA or Narrator, then the gestures will be
different. Basically you explore by touch, swipe and double tap, just like you
would on your iPhone. The idea with the clam shell form factor is that you can
use it as a standard laptop, but you can also swing the screen around and use
it like a tablet.

Like I said, I don't use my touch screen much, and I mostly forget that I even
have a touch screen. Like Joe said, I'll use it occasionally when I don't think
JAWS is telling me everything on the screen. My wife also has a touch screen on
her Asus laptop, and she doesn't use it much either, but she does find it
convenient, and she'll occasionally use it to do something on the screen rather
then reach for the mouse. I've also seen people at the office do this as well.

2020-11-06 Thread Joe Orozco
Most models come with a non touch version. That could bring down the
price. I feel the Apple products make for a better touch experience,
but that could be that I'm just more accustomed to iOS gestures.

Re: HP air laser jet printer

2020-11-06 Thread Joe Orozco
If you look around Amazon, people have found hacks to trick the
printer into bypassing the message you are out of toner. Look under
the user reviews for some of the HP models. It's a common problem. The
workarounds might require a little sighted assistance if you can't
make out the lights on the printer. It's horrible that manufacturers
find creative ways to squeeze people out of money.

Thank you Joe, this is very useful. I too would rather keep my hands on a

Re: Touchscreen laptops

2020-11-06 Thread Joe Orozco
If you use something like an iPad in a laptop configuration, that is
to say in a clamshell keyboard case, I feel the experience is
smoother. Yes, there's the whole business with the split screen at
times, but it's a familiar layout if you are already using an iPhone.
I have a touch screen on one of my PC laptops, and without going too
far astray into Windows land, I have only really found it useful when
it comes to figuring out where JAWS is not reading something
correctly. Swiping around makes it a little easier to get a sense of
the screen layout. Otherwise, and this could just be a personal thing,
but I find myself wanting to keep my hands centered on the keyboard
itself to be productive.

I hope that's the start to more helpful feedback from others.

Re: new translation feature now available on iPhones

2020-11-06 Thread deidre muccio

Touchscreen laptops

2020-11-06 Thread deidre muccio
Hello all,
I don’t have access to a lot of exposure to the latest and best or popular
adaptive technology equipment, so here I am asking of you what you know about
touchscreen laptops? I guess all I need to know is how they work. Do they work
like the face of an iPhoneWith some equivalent of voice over or other
accessibility feature to speak what it is with some equivalent of voice over or
other accessibility feature to speak what it is you’ve touched let’s say to
open a program or app such as word? Or does the touchscreen serve as a regular
monitor as you would have on a PC desktop computer? I don’t need to use a
computer with a touchscreen, and I want to have easy cited help by having a
laptop that includes a monitor. Is there any conflict here? The local little
computer store where I might buy such a refurbished unit is not open to full
capacity so it’s a little hard getting through to them sometimes. If you think
this is an inappropriate question for the list I will just wait till I get
through to them. Thanks.

Double tap that listen button, say what you want translated, then flick

twice to the right passed the close button to finished listening and double

tap.

It does also show the text of the Spanish, so it could kind of be used to

teach oneself some useful phrases I think.

I just looked and I have the same tabs as you do. I did find how to search, but
it is not obvious.

1, Go to Find tab.

2, Go to the very top of the screen. You should hear, actions available,
Possible Text, Q Actor, title, or genre. This is your search field.

3, double tap to activate the search field. You should hear, search field is
editing.

4, Type what you are looking for and double tap the search button on the right
side of the space bar of the keyboard.

5, To exit the search field, if you swipe one time to the right from the edit
field, you will find a back button. Double tap the button to cancel the search.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi list.

Can someone explain to me how to find the search box in the amazon prime video
app? I can see a ist of categories and genres, but no way to search or anything.
Also i am getting a message asking me to use the rota to enable direct touch,
but can’t find this in my rota options.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Derek,

You can always try to remove the one that you have just installed and then
reinstall it. Or you can even try turning off the internet and then
reconnect to it.
Hope this resolves the issue.

HomePod intercom not working

2020-11-06 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
I’ve just updated my iPhone SE 2020 and my HomePod to iOS 14.2 and despite
having enabled the intercom feature every time I ask Siri to activate it, Siri
tells me I have to turn on the feature on my HomePod. I have completely reset
my HomePod but the problem is still the same. I have updated my Apple Watch as
well and tried it from there and it does not work. Has anybody found a fix?
