Re: Groups.IO

2021-01-27 Thread Joseph Hudson
Hi Steve, yes they do. But it is in beta form at the moment. However, due to
other things that of come up, he is not doing any development on the app right
now. I will let all know whenever it is back up and good to go. But you have to
be a part of the beta group in order to know about all the goings-on.

RE: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-27 Thread Simon A Fogarty
You mean once to authorise the installation and once again when your phone
restarted and you had to access your phone

Yes that would be correct as the last step in the installation process is to
restart the phone / tablet and then of course you have to unlock it with your
passcode

I had to put in my 4 digit code twice. Once before I downloaded the update,
and once after it installed. I had no issues updating to IOS 14.4.

Yes, of course. Nothing has changed.
The original poster did not have a passcode to begin with, and was confused
because they were being asked to create one.

Re: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-27 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Entering a passcode is no big deal. I've got an easy 4 digit code,
and even if the only person who uses my phone is me, I would never
under any circumstances not use a passcode. I think of the passcode
kind of like if I had a password on my computer to put in whenever I
turned it on. I don't have a password on my computer, but I know some
people do.

Re: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-27 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I had to put in my 4 digit code twice. Once before I downloaded the
update, and once after it installed. I had no issues updating to IOS
14.4.

You are being prompted to enter a passcode because you didn’t have one before

  Hi Marie,

So I'm curious. Did you set up another 4 digit passcode on your 12 Mini

pattern as to why some folks upgrading their devices were taken to a new

expect there must be something similar between Cher's and your facts that
resulted in both of you being taken to the new passcodes screen.

  Cher,

I'm a bit confused because I thought I'd read all the posts in this thread.
Are you saying that you upgraded your device which previously had a 4 digit
passcode to iOS 14.4. and during that process you were presented with a screen
requesting a new 6 digit passcode? If that is the case, your experience seems
to differ with what everyone else who has posted experienced including myself.
That leads me to believe that either my understanding of what has happened is
incorrect or you need to provide some additional details in order for us to
help. Based on my experience, it sounds as if you are on a new device setup
screen where the default is to prompt the user to set up a 6 digit passcode but
also provides an option to opt for a 4 digit passcode as others have posted. I
was not presented with any such screen when updating to iOS 14.4 so either your
facts disagree with my understanding or your facts need a different subject
line. I would agree with Richard that you might call Apple Accessibility but I
suspect they will ask for the additional details I requested above.

I hope you can get this sorted.

If you have a pass code that is four characters,

The phone should not need you to change that to a 6 digit code before
installing the update,

If anything it would prompt you after you restart as part of a setup option to
create a new and longer pass code,

And even that I would think is crazy of apple to force at that point.

Re: Question about IOS update

2021-01-27 Thread Brad Snyder
These security patches are really nothing new. Apple has issued this kind of
update before without the news media giving it so much attention.
I don’t understand why the update is getting so much attention this time.

Re: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

No, this is a phone which stays home so there was no previous passcode. Could
be the reason I was prompted to enter one.

Hi Marie,

So I'm curious. Did you set up another 4 digit passcode on your 12 Mini before
you were able to upgrade to iOS 14.4? I'm trying to establish some pattern as
to why some folks upgrading their devices were taken to a new passcodes screen
while the majority of those replying were not. I had to provide my existing 4
digit passcode before the upgrade would even download and install and I was
never taken to a new passcodes screen during the process. I expect there must
be something similar between Cher's and your facts that resulted in both of you
being taken to the new passcodes screen.

No, she is not wrong about it asking for a new passcode. I updated my 12 Mini
to 14.4 yesterday and was also asked about face ID and Passcode. However, I did
see the passcode options button.

Cher,

I'm a bit confused because I thought I'd read all the posts in this thread. Are
you saying that you upgraded your device which previously had a 4 digit
passcode to iOS 14.4. and during that process you were presented with a screen
requesting a new 6 digit passcode?

If you flick right, you should get to a point in the screen where you can
choose different options including a shorter four digit passcode or something
alphanumeric. Just remember you'll have to remember and use it whenever you
unlock your phone and don't use touch or face id. There are also other
circumstances when you'll be occasionally asked for your passcode.

Hi,
I have found if you are in a two person facetime call you cannot add anyone

Hi Hary, et al,
When you are on the first call, flick right to Cart Controller, minimized.
Double tap on that.
Then, about half way down the screen on the right side is an Add Person button.
If you only have items that say the other persons video or your video, double
tap on the other persons video, then the ccart controller button should show up.
When that is expanded by double tapping it, then you find the other options
including Add Person.

When on a FaceTime call on my iphone SE, double tapping on the screen will
bring up the controls. Richard sent me an article which describes how, if
sighted, on the control panel you can go down that menu and add another person
to the FaceTime call. But when you first double tap on the screen during your
FaceTime call, only the top controls are visible to the eye or to voice-over.
If I turn VoiceOver off. It is just possible to push the control panel up to
reveal the list of options and then turn VoiceOver on again. Surely there must
be a VoiceOver gesture to move the control panel up to reveal these options?
Swiping right on the initial four options does not reach those other options
nor does a three finger swipe up. Any ideas?
Thanks
Harry

Sorry Richard,
I probably wasn't clear. Of course, it's too easy!
I just want to tell, if you do the update and before, you wasn't using a pass
code and after you are invited to enter a code, Apple says that you should use
123456 or 00. They add this security but when don't know you try many codes
and you lock your device.

2021-01-27 Thread Julie Dawson
I just went up to 14.4 from 13.7. I had to install through iTunes. I couldn't
upgrade through my SE iPhone. What a mess!

Wow! I wonder if there was an earlier option. Only thing to do here is
create a six digit passcode and then after setup, go into settings and change
it to something more suitable later. I can't imagine they'd remove the option
to customize your passcode from the passcode and id settings. Unfortunately, no

If you flick right, you should get to a point in the screen where you can
choose different options including a shorter four digit passcode or something

You would only use those passcodes if you wanted your phone used by anyone on
the planet. That is like using the word password for your password.
Too easy to guess.

Unwanted Verbage after Upgrading to IOS14.4 on iPad

2021-01-27 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi All,

I upgraded to the latest IOS version from IOS 13.7 on my iPad mini. Now, when
I swipe to or touch a different area of the screen such as the status bar, the
main part of the screen, or the doc, it says the word "cooking" before saying
anything else. Cooking is the name of a folder I have on my iPhone, but it is
not on my iPad.

I had similar behavior several years ago, and then it was magically fixed when
I upgraded to IOS 10, if I am remembering correctly.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this. I will be making a call
to Apple accessibility.

Pam

If you have a pass code that is four characters,
The phone should not need you to change that to a 6 digit code before

If anything it would prompt you after you restart as part of a setup option to

And even that I would think is crazy of apple to force at that point.

RE: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-27 Thread Alan Lemly

Cher,

I'm a bit confused because I thought I'd read all the posts in this thread. Are
you saying that you upgraded your device which previously had a 4 digit
passcode to iOS 14.4. and during that process you were presented with a screen
requesting a new 6 digit passcode?

Question about IOS update

2021-01-27 Thread Johna Gravitt
Hello All,
I just got some sort of alert from a news app I subscribe to that says there is
some sort of warning for Apple users with the newest update. Does anyone know
what that is all about? I was unable to click on the news article and read it.

Dear Requestors,

The AT Center would like to share with you this update from APH regarding
the Mantis Q40 and Chameleon 20...

"We have identified connection issues for the Mantis Q40 and Chameleon 20 after
upgrading to iOS 14.4. We recommend that you turn off automatic updates, and do
not upgrade to 14.4. This is a regression introduced by Apple in this release.
We alerted them to this issue during 14.4 beta testing, and we hope they will
correct it in a possible 14.4.1 release. Stay tuned to your inbox for further
updates.

Once upgraded to iOS 14.4, and as soon as users lock their iPad or iPhone with
the Mantis or Chameleon connected, the braille display will not automatically
reconnect once the device wakes back up. You can force it to reconnect by
leaving the terminal and reconnecting from there, but then you won’t get
braille. The only way to get braille back is to toggle Bluetooth on the iOS
device, but the issue will happen again as soon as you lock your device or it
goes to sleep.

To stop an iOS device from auto updating, do the following:

* Open the Settings app

* Activate the General option

* Activate the Software Update option

* Activate the Automatic Updates option

* Turn off both, “download iOS updates,” and “Install iOS updates.”

If you’ve already updated to iOS 14.4, please refer to this link for
instructions on how to downgrade your iOS device:

Yes- your understanding is correct. I called Apple and all the same screens
presented themselves- with the same lack of options. After several attempts to
find alternatives, he had me do a 3 finger swipe up and flick through the
screens again- both left and right. Suddenly the options button magically
appeared and this allowed me to choose a 4 digit code again. Thanks to all who
replied- it is great to have so many folks in your corner when you’re about to
pull your hair out!

Re: How do I turn off capslock when writing in eight-dot mode?

2021-01-27 Thread Duane Steele
Good news, Richard. It's the same command for the BrailleEdge 40, and,
apparently for most Braille displays. Now why didn't I think of that? I
appreciate the wisdom you and others bring to this list, and I'm glad to be on
it.

note on Braille display problem with IOS 14.4

2021-01-27 Thread Paul JOrdan
Not sure if anyone has seen or verified thinformation. I got it from a
different list. If it isn't correct then I send my apologies in advance.

God bless!

Paula and the pups

Here is some extremely important information for anyone who uses any Braille
display with their iDevice running IOS 14.4. I know this only talks about
the APH products but it is true for all Braille displays.

Dear Requestors,

The AT Center would like to share with you this update from APH
regarding the Mantis Q40 and Chameleon 20...

"We have identified connection issues for the Mantis Q40 and Chameleon 20
after upgrading to iOS 14.4. We recommend that you turn off automatic
updates, and do not upgrade to 14.4. This is a regression introduced by
Apple in this release. We alerted them to this issue during 14.4 beta
testing, and we hope they will correct it in a possible 14.4.1 release. Stay
tuned to your inbox for further updates.

Once upgraded to iOS 14.4, and as soon as users lock their iPad or iPhone
with the Mantis or Chameleon connected, the braille display will not
automatically reconnect once the device wakes back up. You can force it to
reconnect by leaving the terminal and reconnecting from there, but then you
won't get braille. The only way to get braille back is to toggle Bluetooth
on the iOS device, but the issue will happen again as soon as you lock your
device or it goes to sleep.

To stop an iOS device from auto updating, do the following:

* Open the Settings app

* Activate the General option

* Activate the Software Update option

* Activate the Automatic Updates option

* Turn off both, "download iOS updates," and "Install iOS
updates."

If you've already updated to iOS 14.4, please refer to this link for
instructions on how to downgrade your iOS device:

RE: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-27 Thread Alan Lemly
Cher,

I'm a bit confused because I thought I'd read all the posts in this thread. Are
you saying that you upgraded your device which previously had a 4 digit
passcode to iOS 14.4. and during that process you were presented with a screen
requesting a new 6 digit passcode?

RE: Mentions in Texts

2021-01-27 Thread Chris Szostak
Hi All!

The actual subject line is "Mentions in Texts". It's refering to the
"mentions" that have been added to texts. I'm really sorry for the confusing
subjectline I made:(!! Please forgive me for any confusion this has caused.

"Your value is only what God says. He thinks YOU are worth dying for!" (Our
Daily Bread Ministries)

I dare you to give this a try! Believe in and start to live by the following
promises: Psalm 46 10a, Philippians 4:6-7, and Exodus 14:14. Oh, and when they
prove to be true in your life remember to follow Philippians 4:4 and then
declare 1 Chronicles 29:13! If you want to live with these promises for all of
eternity and avoid what you'll find in Revelation 20:15, then I strongly urge
you to follow and accept Romans 10:9-10 and then ask Christ, through prayer
into your life before it's too late! What are you waiting for! It's the most
amazing and life-changing decision you could ever make! Want even more, then I
dare you to check out the whole Bible for even more amazing promises that could
change your life.

On the Orbit displays, the Toggle Shift is dot 4, plus dot 8, plus spacebar.
If you don't have an Orbit, open the VoiceOver Braille settings.
Find your device and flick up to More Info and double tap.
Double tap then on Braille commands. Flick right to keyboard and double tap.
Then, the Toggle shift is near the end of that list.

What you may have to do is go into your commands and find which one is the
toggle for shift key always on. This needs to be toggled off again. I think

How do I turn off capslock when writing in eight-dot mode?

2021-01-27 Thread Duane Steele
Hello Listers,

Sometimes I am sending a text having to write using 8-dot mode on my Braille
display. Somehow, capsLock has been turned on on my phone and I can't get rid
of it. Can anyone using a display help me correct this? Thanks.

Peace & Blessings,

2021-01-27 Thread Larry Lumpkin
I updated my iphone 7 to 14.4 and the option never appeared. I entered my
4-digit passcode just fine.

Wow! I wonder if there was an earlier option. Only thing to do here is create a
six digit passcode and then after setup, go into settings and change it to
something more suitable later. I can't imagine they'd remove the option to
customize your passcode from the passcode and id settings. Unfortunately, no
brilliant ideas occur to me.

I’ve noticed that too on some messages.
It is like the subject field is hidden.
But, it isn’t true with all messages.
No clue what is going on.

Yep but sadly it's still there:).

2021-01-27 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Hary, et al,
When you are on the first call, flick right to Cart Controller, minimized.
Double tap on that.
Then, about half way down the screen on the right side is an Add Person button.
If you only have items that say the other persons video or your video, double
tap on the other persons video, then the ccart controller button should show up.
When that is expanded by double tapping it, then you find the other options
including Add Person.

Subject: VoiceOver gesture in FaceTime?

Any ideas?
Thanks
Harry

If you flick right, you should get to a point in the screen where you can
choose different options including a shorter four digit passcode or something
alphanumeric. Just remember you'll have to remember and use it whenever you
unlock your phone and don't use touch or face id. There are also other

Re: VoiceOver sound and computer Zoom iOS 14.3

2021-01-27 Thread Brad Snyder
I am a little confused on what you are trying to do.
If you are in a Zoom meeting on your iPhone, and want your VoiceOver to be
heard while doing a Screen Share, then I recommend turning on Original Sound.
You may first need to enable this option via setting on the Zoom.us
website, then turning on Original Sound in the iOS app on
your iPhone, during a Zoom call, before beginning Screen Share.

I hope this helps you do whatever it is you are trying to do.

Hello,
I am trying to share VoiceOver sound through my computer with iOS 14.3.
I installed the Zoom plug in and selected share iPhone/iPad on the
share sheet. I then selected screen mirroring and selected Zoom ad-on
from control center on my iPhone. All audio such as music does come
through while sharing; however, VoiceOver speech does not.
I looked for audio destination in the rotor to attempt to change
VoiceOver sound to the Zoom ad-on but that was not an option even
though I have audio destination selected.
Has anyone gotten this to work?
I am using a Windows10 computer.
Thank you in advance for any responses.

Re: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-27 Thread Richard Turner
there should be an option, though Apple recommends 6 for better security, but
you should be able to choose a 4 digit passcode, and if that is what you had,
you should be able to just use it.

Richard

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon
airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep
space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was
young."
"Why, what did she tell you?"
"I don't know, I didn't listen."

VoiceOver sound and computer Zoom iOS 14.3

2021-01-27 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am trying to share VoiceOver sound through my computer with iOS 14.3.

VoiceOver gesture in FaceTime?

2021-01-27 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
Any ideas?
Thanks
Harry

"Your value is only what God says. He thinks YOU are worth dying for!" (Our

2021-01-27 Thread Richard Turner
Right before it says that you will be notified when your name is mentioned even
if conversations are muted, there is a button that says notify me. If it is on,
then you will be notified when your name is mentioned in any conversation. If
that button is off, then you won't be notified when your name is mentioned in a
conversation.

young."
"Why, what did she tell you?"

Re: can you convert wav files into mp3s

2021-01-27 Thread Bill Gallik

Just a point I thought I’d make in this thread; it is not feasible to convert
the other direction. That is, converting from MP3 to WAV format will render
less than desirable results. This s because the MP3 format excludes some
sounds that cannot easily be presumed by any conversion tool. This is why an
MP3 version of a sound stream is typically much smaller than a WAV format of
the same stream.
