RE: cannot gift app, App Store says to set up payment information

2013-11-28 Thread AnonyMouse
Alex,

As others have mentioned. If you have received money from a iTunes gift card
for yourself or by others. You can't use any of that money for gifting it to
others. So at this point you have to use a bank card and such that will use
to allow you to purchase a gift for others. Another Apple rules that I found
out the hard way. ;)

Subject: cannot gift app, App Store says to set up payment information

Hi all,
I'm trying to gift an app. Each time I do, the App Store pops up a dialog
telling me I have to set up payment information for my account. I can buy
apps just fine, and I have enough in my account to cover this transaction,
but I cannot complete it. Does anyone know what is going on and how I can
get this to work? I want to do this soon because the app I'm gifting is
fifty percent off. I've googled the problem, but everything I find talks
about a prompt to verify, not to set up. I've removed the App Store from my
app switcher, and restarted my phone. Thanks.

Have a great day,

RE: Sending an app as a gift in ios7

2013-11-27 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello,

Sure, I could certainly try. :)

1. Get your device up. In my case it would be my iPhone 5.
2. Open the AppStore app
3. Search for the App you want to send as a gift. So say you want Voice
Dream Reader. Do a search for this from the Search tab.
4. Find the app as in this example the Voice Dream Reader. Just double tap
on this app and it will bring up the page on the Voice Dream Reader.
5. At the top right and flick once to the left. There should be the Share
button. Double tap on the Share button.
6. Now select and double tap on the Gift
7. Just need to provide the email address of their Apple iTunes account and
go to the Next button at the upper right hand corner
8. Finish the process and the gift is now sent off

RE: Sending an app as a gift in ios7

2013-11-27 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello there,

In what Richard has mentioned. All apps that is FREE. You can't gift but
rather you can send them an email by the Share button. The WhatsApp has been
FREE since July 16, 2013 of this year. Before this it used to be $0.99 to
purchase. I believe at one point I heard that they were going to a monthly
pay subscription toward the end of this year. However, I have not heard
anything since that article back in the summer when they had announce this.

Actually, this has been there since the iOS 7 Beta phase. A number of people

Hello Alex,

Totally agree with you. It is not consistent. As with myself. I do not have
this issue all of the time. Just certain times. You make a good point about
having the headset on. Which I do wear my headset a lot with my device. I'll
have to pay more attention to that observation.

Thanks for pointing that out!

Well, I've noticed it before, but here's the odd thing. To my knowledge, it
only happens when I'm using headphones. Unless I'm missing it, I never hear
the double message if no headphones are plugged in, and even then it only
happens sometimes.

RE: Status report doesn't fetch Facebook updates

2013-08-18 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Alexandra,

Unfortunately, the Status Report app is no longer around. They have removed
this app from the store and are no longer available for anyone to download.
So over time I would assume that this app would eventually decease to work.

So sadly I don't have any easy fix to your problem. As Facebook continue to
change things I'd only imagine at some point it would stop working because
of the changes they have done and this app will no longer receive any
updates to resolve those problems.

Hopefully, I can only hope somebody on this list might have a solution that
could extend the life of the app. It was also one of my favorite app to use.

Subject: Status report doesn't fetch facebook updates

Hello,

I'm using status report to check my facebook feed, as it's very comfortable
to use and shows much more postings than the regular facebook app or
website. However, every few months, it doesn't fetch any uptades at all.
Instead, the app closes, and you can only read the time and date of the
presumable last refresh. I told the developers about this issue which they
weren't aware of before, and they said they'd take care of it - somehow.
Today, I was confronted with the same issue, so I uninstalled the app,
re-installed it and logged into facebook. But nothing works. Also tried to
turn off the phone which sometimes helped, but no success. I'm using an
iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3 and the latest version of status report. Do you
know how to make the app work again? Or can you recommend an alternative?
I've never seen an app that works so well but at some point always refuses
to do the job and has to be re-installed regularly.

Best wishes,

Alexandra

RE: Status report doesn't fetch Facebook updates

2013-08-18 Thread AnonyMouse
Well, second thought. It looks like I just may have given you bad
information.

Not sure why I had thought they have vanished. That isn't the case at all.

As you can see they are still there at:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/status-report/id474219737?mt=8

However, they haven't been updated since January. So giving that some
thoughts. I would definetly contact them and see what's up?

Sorry about that. My bad.

Bummer, I had no idea that it had been pulled. Any idea why? I had my
troubles with it and twitter a while back, but the devs fixed it and even
address the link text not being read by Voiceover when I wrote them about
it. Facebook still doesn't even do this.

Oh well.

Regards,
AnonyMouse

Alexandra

RE: Dice world and how to change sides when scoring your role?

2013-07-28 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello MamaPeach,

Well that is a good question. MamaPeach I believe from the Main Page itself.
You have the list of games. To remove a game like those Practice game you've
created. I think all you have to do is tap on the game itself. Now flick up.
This gives you the option to delete it. I believe you can also do the same
method by double tap and hold. Swipe to the right. It should also give you the
option to delete it.

Remember that the Rotor must be on the Actions mode for the vlick up to work.

Choice is like chance in Yahtzy. If you cant score it anywhere else, put it in
the choice row. There is a way of getting rid of the practice games, I think it
is like a zig zag gesture or something like that, but I cant remember for sure.

Absolutely more fun with an opponent. Does anyone know how to play Balut? Think
I know, but what is choice? Also, is there a way to throw away a practice game?

RE: dice world

2013-07-24 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Maria,

I am really glad you like the Extra Bonus. It really is more useful in the
Ballut and the Yahztee for me.

The main problem I have is that for example. I rolled a 56 on my first roll
because of the Bonus option to unPig that die. Thus, really making it almost
a bit unfair. I dunno know. I've also got 4000 on a single roll as well on
the Farkle game. So I guess it depends which side is getting lucky and
getting slammed. ;)

No, not at this time. There are no hints for the Yahtzee or the Ballut game.
However, some one has requested that to the developer today as the matter of

As for the gold. Umm, I thought it cost +1 Gold to play a game. So if you

Hello MamaPeach,

You are indeed correct. I apologize for the incorrect information. At one
point it did cost +1 gold to create a game. As you have mentioned it does
not appear to do this any more. Interesting. Thanks for the update.

As for the Dice World Store. Yes, at this time is strictly for buying more
gold for those bonus games. Plus, the ability to purchase different packs
and dices. For some with little vision can still use this.

I have suggested to the developer that he would consider in sound packs. A
variety of different kind of sounds. Sci-Fi, Sea, and other kind of sounds
that would replace the existing sounds. He seem adaptive to the ideas well
but uncertain if he will put it in the future updates.

Anthony,

You can find out more about Forecast Now and the link to it to the iTunes

There is also a podcast on it that I've posted on to the site as well.

 Hello Jed,

I use and love forecast now as my main weather app.
Here is how to add a city:

After opening the app, I tap at the bottom of the screen, and flick
left until I hear, change location.
On this screen, it will list all of the cities you have added to the
app, and it is where you can add additional cities.
On the top left, I have the back button, then an edit button, and then
 an add button.
Double tap the add button to add a city.
Now I only have one edit field.
Now from the add button, just right flick until you hear:
 Enter town, state, or zip
This is not an edit field.
Right flick one more time and you should hear:
town, state, or 5 digit zip, text field Now if you have hints turns
off, you might not hear the text field part.
After the edit field is the ok button.
So if you have hints turned off and do not hear the text field part,
then go to the ok button, then left flick one time and that is the edit
field.
Double tap on it to enter your city and state or zip.

 I hope this helps.

Just double tap on the edit field to activate it, enter the city,
State or zip code of where you want to add, and then double tap the add
button.

Hello Lisa,

Hope that I can help you out with the Weather Underground IOS app.

From with in the Maps tab itself. If you touch the upper left hand corner of
the screen. You will find the Location Selector button. To the right of this
or just flick once to the left you will find the Play button. Just double
tap on this. It should now start downloading the maps to create the animated

Hi, all.

I'm using an iPhone 5 and the Weather Underground app. How can someone
using this app without voice over get the weather radar to work in real
time?

This afternoon I was using my phone with 3G access and while people could
see the radar, they couldn't see in what direction rough weather was
heading. They didn't see any buttons and moving fingers around on the
screen wasn't working. They're not iPhone users, so I really couldn't offer
any suggestions.

TiVo Suggestions

2013-07-11 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello all,

Just wanted to forward an email that I have recieved from Mike May. He is
having issues in posting a new topic. So he ask if I post this on behalf of
him.

So he would greatly appreciate any suggestions that you may have.

Here is the message that he wrote:

I am a big fan of the TiVo app as the only way in the US to have full
control of a television. I have never been much of a television watcher
partially because of having to depend on a sighted person to run most of the
controls. The Apple TV certainly opened up many possibilities. It doesn't
however have access to many cable channels and live TV the way other set top
boxes do.

The TiVo app is very accessible. It even has a simulated remote but it is
usually faster to use the hardware remote for simple functions like play and
fast-forward.

I am on the TiVo alpha team. If anyone knows of things they would like to
see fixed on the TiVo app, let me know off the list in the next week or two
so they can get it into the next release. I have been very impressed at how
open and interested TiVo has been and very excited to know they have one of
the only fully accessible means for a blind person to run their television.

Maybe one of these days we will get close to the access our British friends
have.

Mike

RE: Twitterrific no longer works?

2013-06-11 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello James,

Just to let you know along with others. Today was the day that Twitter has
pushed over to their v1.1 API. So this means as of this afternoon. That a
few apps will no longer work until they get this updated. Not certain if
this is in your case.

This includes the The Qube on the Microsoft platform as well.

As for Twitterrific. Make sure you have the Twitterrific 5 for Twitter
v5.2.2. This is still working. All other older version most likely will no
longer be working.

Lastly, there are reports coming out slowly that other apps that use the
Twitter as part of their app are having the same problem. I have confirmed
this in a handful as of tonight.

If you do have the latest version of the Twitterrific 5 for Twitter and
continue to have problems. I highly advise you in contacting them since this
is still working for the most of us.

RE: The Apple list Zello channel

2013-06-11 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Joseph,

That is a very good question. Since the scheduled events are typically
undetermined when they will be scheduled. May I suggest that you follow
AppleVis on Twitter? The Twitter name for AppleVis is @AppleVis. You can
also follow me at @thomas_domville.

We will take in considerations in maybe highlighting the event by the
Newsletter that we put out from time to time. If you are not registered to
receive those Newsletter. Come over to AppleVis and sign up to receive them.
However, we don't typically post those events in the Newsletter. So no
promises.

I can only offer you the Twitter suggestions as that will certainly be
tweeted for sure. Plus, of course visiting the AppleVis site.

Hello Kieth,

No fret. The past two years they have made some announcement on the new

It hadn't always been that way but that is Apple for you. So we have to wait

RE: Google Maps with voice over

Hello Sly,

Unfortunetly, the latest version of the Google Maps makes it impossible for
you to use the turn-by-turn in Voice Over. As of v1.1 you will not be able
select this button which can't be seen by the Voice Over. Google is aware of
this problem and says that it should be fixed in the next version.

RE: Some good news for potential and existing Viber users!

2013-05-31 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello all,

Recently, I have had interest in the Viber app myself. Now that there is a
discussion here about it. I too am wondering what advantages that Viber has
over the Skype?

I'm not a fan of revealing neither my phone numbers nor my e-mail address to
where people can search for them. Plus, I wouldn't want all of my friends to
have my phone number. So this was great in how Skype handle that problem of
just having a User Name.

I can see in some that a direct number could be useful for getting a great
deal on talk time for international calls but it would just be free if they
just use the Viber or Skype itself. They are all cross platform compatible.
So it isn't just tied to a particular device but you can use it on the
desktop as well.

So I'm sorry but I just fail to see any clear advantages this offer over
Skype of where I have a good list of friends on already. Unless, I'm missing
a key point of maybe the quality is better or such? Since, I must admit that
most of us would only be using the Audio call for the majority of the time.

Would love to hear in things that I may be missing out?

Thanks,
AnonyMouse

There is a limitation on incoming numbers in case of skypr. You have to
pay for it and in many countries incoming numbers do not exist in case of
skype. That is the second advantage for some people.

 Good evening all
I have great news for potential and existing Viber users.
Calling a contact on Viber is absolutely a breeze.
I called a friend from messages we have exchanged. Although the call
didn't
go through (after ten times the call will end), he did at least get a
notification to say he had an incoming call.
So he rung me back using the recents tab of Viber, which absolutely
resembles the recents tab of the phone app, so no problem there! He
opened
Viber by double tapping on the above notification.
Anyway, I then got an incoming call, but because Viber was in the app
switcher, it was just a case of double tapping on the app then double
tapping on the answer button. By the way, nice ring tone they have!
Using headphones along with the phone's mike, the call went very
smoothly.
Quality was excellent. No breakups or drop outs, someting familiar with
cellular calls, and I was even able to activate the speaker by double
tapping on the speaker button! I was also able to end the call with a
double
tap of the end button. Not sure if two finger double tap works here to
both
 answer and end a call.
So as you can see, calling with Viber is very accessible and easy to do.
But may I suggest you wear headphones as you could inadvertently
activate
the phone when using the earpiece. Also, may I suggest you either mute
speech with a three finger double tap or turn VoiceOver off altogether
with
the triple click home method if you have that set. I found this out the
hard
way when VoiceOver blasted out a notification through my headphones.
Lol!
Anyway, hope this is useful. Just submitted this guide to Applevis.
 Enjoy!

RE: Some good news for potential and existing Viber users!

2013-05-31 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello there,

That is a good question. Here is what the iTunes says about Viber.

Viber - Free Phone Calls
With Viber, everyone in the world can connect. Freely. More than 200 million
Viber users call, text, and send photos worldwide - for free.

Viber is available for the iPhoneR and other smartphones. We are constantly
introducing new features and platforms.

On Viber, your phone number is your ID. The app syncs with your mobile
contact list, automatically detecting which of your contacts have Viber.

Free calls with HD sound quality
Groups with up to 40 participants
Send stickers and emoticons, making messaging fun!
Share locations
Push notifications guarantee that you never miss a call or message, even
when Viber is off
Send videos and photos with just a few easy steps
No ads and 100% free*
Localized to: Czech, Danish, Greek, Finnish, Hungarian, Polish Swedish,
Turkish, Korean, Dutch, Thai, Vietnamese, Malay, Indonesian, Russian,
Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional),
Spanish, Catalan, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Portuguese
(Brazil).

For more information on it you can look at it over at AppleVis at:
http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/social-networking/viber-free-phone-calls

Just noticed something that looks worth looking at and that Skype doesn't
support. The Groups with up to 40 participants is quite amazing but can that
be done from the app itself? Skype does not allow you to make a conference
group call from the IOS app. Plus, it doesn't mention nor have I tried this
but does this work over on 3G and LTE? I know that Skype you can but cost
extra to do so.

AnonyMouse

 Hello there,

Well, there is two areas that I would look at for starters.

Have you looked in to your Notifications for Dice World?

Just go to your Settings - Notifications.
Locate the Dice World game on the list
 Double tap on Dice World
Make sure the Notifications is turned On.
Select the Alert type of your choice.
 Turn the Sound to On
Turn View in Lock Screen to On

If all of these settings are set then make sure that your Do Not Disturb
 is
 On.

To locate this DND. Just go to the Settings - Do Not Disturb and see if
 this is turned Off

Hi there. It's possible that the extra push notifications may be
causing more of a battery drain. One experiment you can try is turning off
notifications for a a while and see if that makes a difference in your

not be something quick that you will get an answer to. By the way my

All, I have become addicted to dice world; thus, I often
have 10-15 games going on at once. As a result, alerts come in constantly
 for new games.

I expected a little more battery use as a consequence, but
yesterday in the afternoon I charged my battery and by this morning, it
 was
at 20% already. Should I be concerned that the battery may be failing or
just chalk it up to too many alerts.

 Anyone else experience this issue.

 Thanks.

RE: U-verse? - Re: Question rest Options

2013-05-26 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Karen,

Here is what I can tell you about the U-Verse in regarding to apps that they
offer for the iPhone/iPad.

U-verse
http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/utilities/u-verse

As you read from the review for this particular app. This is the one where
you could watch a selected few shows straight from your device.
Unfortunately, it is not very accessible. I have tried this myself and was
only merely disappointed.

However, there is another app that U-verse puts out and it works very well.

U-verse Easy Remote
http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/entertainment/u-verse-easy-remote

If you go to this page. I have done a podcast on it for you to listen for
yourself. This app does a great job letting you know what is on. Easily
change channels and many other things. I really love this app very much.

As for the Internet that they provide. I have been very happy with the
service. I came from being a past time DSL, Time Warner Roadrunner, and
trying other providers. This has been the most reliable for me. It does not
share the bandwidth with other people like RoadRunner did. You have your own
dedicated speed and I've seen it remain at that speed I bought every time
I've tested it.

So the U-verse has it Pros and Cons just like any other providers. I don't
require much and for watching television with my Easy Remote. I'm a pretty
happy camper. So you take the time to review the two app link that I have
given you so that you can make that decision for yourself.

RE: dice world, alerts, and battery drain

2013-05-25 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello there,

Well, there is two areas that I would look at for starters.

Have you looked in to your Notifications for Dice World?

Just go to your Settings - Notifications.
Locate the Dice World game on the list
Double tap on Dice World
Make sure the Notifications is turned On.
Select the Alert type of your choice.
Turn the Sound to On
Turn View in Lock Screen to On

If all of these settings are set then make sure that your Do Not Disturb is
On.

To locate this DND. Just go to the Settings - Do Not Disturb and see if
this is turned Off

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on why I don't seem to be
alerted when its my turn to play in Dice World? That's to say, whilst the
game is running I can hear the dice being rolled. but if the phone is in
locked/sleep mode, I get nothing.
Any ideas anyone?

Hi there. It's possible that the extra push notifications may be
causing more of a battery drain. One experiment you can try is turning off
notifications for a a while and see if that makes a difference in your
battery It might take you one day to check out this experiment, so it will
not be something quick that you will get an answer to. By the way my

using cell data or Wi-Fi? My phone is usually connected to Wi-Fi, so that
could be the difference. I suspect, though I don't have hard information on
this, that cell data use drains the battery faster than Wi-Fi. I'd also
encourage you not to be like me and let your app switcher fill up with apps,
some of which, such as Tune In Radio, like to drain the battery.

All, I have become addicted to dice world; thus, I often
have 10-15 games going on at once. As a result, alerts come in constantly
for new games.

I expected a little more battery use as a consequence, but
yesterday in the afternoon I charged my battery and by this morning, it was
at 20% already. Should I be concerned that the battery may be failing or
just chalk it up to too many alerts.

Anyone else experience this issue.

Thanks.

Hello JoJo,

Alright, here is what you do. Say we are searching for Google Search. Put
that in to your Search. Once the Search is completed. You should see that
the Google Search is the first one on the page. Go ahead and double tap on
this item. Now place your finger at the bottom left hand corner for
Features. Now start swiping backwards. You will eventually fine the Size. In

RE: rises reader

2013-05-14 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Rebecca,

Not sure if someone has already explained the benefits of the RSS to you. So
let me see if I can't tell you how I use them for myself.

The RSS subscriptions can be used in several ways.

In this case you have mentioned the Lire app. This is more designed for
gathering news for you in to one place. So let say I like to read the news
from the CNN site. I also go over to AppleVis to see what is going on. Other
times I want to read up on the latest Apple news from Macromeres site.

What Lire do and other RSS Reader Clients. Is that they go out and gather up
all of the news for you and put them in to one place. So no need to surf 8
different places for the news. It will gather up all 8 sites and place them
in like an e-mail format. You get the Article Subject follow by a small
summary of what is in that article. So double tapping on that article will
give you the detailed information about the article.

Now there are other apps like the Downcast. This takes advantage of the RSS
that are geared towards podcasts. Very much like the articles I've mentioned
above. Instead of having to go to a variety of places to see what new
podcast are available. It comes to you. In this example, I like to listen to
the AppleVis podcasts, along with 60 minutes, NBC Nightly News and others.

It just makes your life easier if you spend a lot of time surfing to a
variety of places to read the news and listen to podcast.

AnonyMouse

Sadly, as a user you don't have the control of the volume on Zello. This is

Hello Jennifer,

Well, you could always turn off the Wi-Fi and go straight in using your LTE,

However, I think you mentioned you are using the iCloud e-mail? If so, that is
odd it wouldn't work outside of your network.

So I'll give a better detail of what you should have set up if that is the
case. Plus, if your option does not work.

see that everywhere and wouldn't be able to send email at all.
Obviously, it's something to check though.

Jenny,

I'm curious, who's your broadband service provider at home and who's your email
provider? Are they the same? If so, your email provider may have their SMTP
server set up to only send out emails that originate on their own internal
network. Companies do this to keep their SMTP servers from being used for spam.
Time Warner used to do this. If so, check with your service provider on how to
send emails from your phone. If not, check your SMTP settings and report back.

RE: changing we fi settings

2013-05-04 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Crystal,

Not certain if somebody has already helped you on this or not. If you are
trying to change over to a different encryption on a Wi-Fi.

Several things have to happen.

First, if you are simply just want to start over with an existing connection
you have with a Wi-Fi. You just need to go to the Settings - Wi-Fi. Now
find the connections you want to change. Find the More Info for it. Double
tap on this.

You will find the Forget This Network button. Go ahead and double tap on
this.

Now you can re-connect to this Wi-Fi again in providing the credentials for
that Wi-Fi.

Understand that the iPhone is smart enough to know if you are going to a WEP
or to a WPA encryption. So once the credentials are entered. You are done.
It will set up based on the encryption on for that Wi-Fi.

On the actual Wi-Fi router itself. This is where if one wants to change the
type of encryption. There are no protection, WEP, WPA, WPA-2, and so and so
on. Once you tell the router what encryption you want. Reboot it.

Go back to your iPhone and do the steps I have mentioned above. It will then
automatically know what encryption the Wi-Fi router has set for it.

Lastly, there is a section for the more advanced users. If you go to the
Wi-Fi page it. Find the Other button. Double tap on this will lead you to a
page where you can manually enter a network name plus the encryption type.
You must correctly enter the exact same information that was given to you by
the router or by a person with that knowledge. It will then prompt for
credentials if needed.

RE: Mail When Away From Home?

2013-05-04 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Jenny,

Well, you would think that. Sometimes if your e-mail is coming from the
provider that is the same provider that gives you the internet bandwidth. At
times, I have seen where it isn't required as long you are inside of the
network. Once, you stop outside that becomes a whole different ball of wax.

This is only one suggestions and hopefully. Perhaps, somebody else has some
idea for you or this just may be the ticket you are looking for. ;)

If the SMTP server configuration was incorrect on her phone, I'd think she'd
see that everywhere and wouldn't be able to send email at all.
Obviously, it's something to check though.

Jenny,

I'm curious, who's your broadband service provider at home and who's your
email provider? Are they the same? If so, your email provider may have their
SMTP server set up to only send out emails that originate on their own
internal network. Companies do this to keep their SMTP servers from being
used for spam. Time Warner used to do this. If so, check with your service
provider on how to send emails from your phone. If not, check your SMTP
settings and report back.

If you go to the Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendar. On this page it
should have your email account that you are using. If you double tap
 on this account.

This will bring up your e-mail account settings. On this page make
sure that your SMTP is set up correctly. In most cases it also may
require that you enter a password for the SMTP.

RE: Changing Voices On iPhone After Jail braking

2013-02-14 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello all,

Just for clarification and understanding. Is this not illegal to do? We have
removed such topic and discussion on AppleVis because of the legality of
this procedure of taking a PAID voice that was designed for the NVDA and
specifically for that product.

My understanding from the EULA from Vocalizer is that the voices you
purchased for such product such as NVDA is not be used or shared by any
other person or products.

I don't run this mailing list but I am rather surprised that the moderators
continue to allow this to keep going without any interactions by them.

So if something like this that is illegal. Can we discuss about IOS Betas,
share apps with each other, tell how to crack files to use and such on here?

There are developers that I am sure that are on this Mailing List and would
probably like to know if their product was mentioned here and people are
showing them how to use them illegally would probably be frowning on this.

I think such practice shouldn't be allowed on the ViPhone and should be done
elsewhere.

That is just my two cents and I'm just really surprised that others haven't
mentioned or have said anything of this.

So I am curious if ViPhone allow and condone such practice and piracy?

Thanks.

Having trouble getting new voices to work after trying to change voices on
my iPhone 5. I'm following the instructions to the letter, but no luck. If
I outline what I've done, I'm hoping someone out there can tell me where I'm
going wrong. I've tried with Tom and Lee, and no luck either way. I've
tried changing the Irish voice and then I tried changing the U.S english
voice. No luck either way though. I even tried different variants of the
voices as well.

1. Put the following files into a folder so I'd have them all in 1 place.
clc_ena_cfg3.dat
clc_ena_lee_cfg3.dat
select_lee_bet2f22.dat
synth_lee_dri40_vssq5_f22.dat
uselect_lee_dri40.dat
I also renamed the proper .hdr file to broker.hdr and put it in the folder
as well.
I made sure that I chose the correct files depending on the variant and
voice I was using.
2. I navigated to the proper folder on my device and deleted everything in
the folder. Like I said, I tried with the U.S english folder as well as the
Irish folder.
3. I selected all the files I'd prepared for my voice and placed them into
the now empty folder on my device.
4. I rebooted the device, and when I went to the language in the router
where the new voice should have been, everything was silent.
5. I once again navigated to the folder on my device. Deleted everything,
and put the original files back.
6. The original voice is working fine again.

Can anyone see what I might be doing wrong? The Irish voice folder didn't
have a user rules .txt file and I didn't really think that mattered. I also
made sure that use compact voice was turned on. I'm totally stumped. Any
help would be most appreciated.

RE: Changing Voices On iPhone After Jail braking

2013-02-14 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Ben,

What Ben is talking about is that our main person of AppleVis had decided to
reveal a serious accessibility problem that was discovered in the beta of
IOS 6 right before it was released. David had decided to real what would be
considered a no-no by many people. Rightfully, so.

That was a serious mistake on our part. However, that was solely David
decision since he is the owner of AppleVis. He is not a developer unlike
some of us were and are still. David has no connection with Apple in anyway.

He somehow was managed to obtain the IOS 6 GM that was release as a final
release. It had felt it was serious to not to people that Apple had a
serious flaw in the App Store. At that time it was completely inaccessible.
So he wanted to warn all of the visually community of the serious flaw and
advise not to update your device to the IOS 6 with this flaw.

The day before it was release to the public is when they actually fix the
serious flaw on the App Store.

So Ben is thinking the whole team is a hypocrite or something. I have some
other words for him but I'll keep my tongue on this.

All other members of the Editorial Team had nothing to do with this release
of that article. Did it break the NDA? Sure, I suppose so if you were a
developer but he was not.

My point is that we learned quite a bit from that mistake. Lot of people
burned us hard on that. Some continues to rehash it. I won't mention names
because that isn't my style.

So we won't be doing that again anytime soon or ever for that matter.

I am trying to look over for the visually impaired community such as the
ViPhone. I don't want to see AppleVis nor is ViPhone get shut down because
some of the people think it alright to break the law.

Just like those that told us on AppleVis. So Ben if you are one of those
people that scolded David for doing that. I'm glad! Why don't you step up
like a man and do it on here for ViPhone then and be mature to state
something like that on here? That was low and I'm not going to steep down
low like you have done.

I'm no hypocrite because I didn't make that choice on AppleVis and said it
myself that it was wrong. So is this topic.

'Nuff said.

2013-01-28 Thread Anonymouse
Hello Julian,

Not certain but we haven't been able to duplicate the problem you are having
with the renaming of the Icon. Each and every time we have tried and used
the Save button. WE have had luck.

So I would be very curious if others have these problems as well?

As for the Screen Curtains. That is correct we have indeed mentioned that we
felt they had fixed this issues. Apparently, some are still experiencing the
problems.

Weirdly, we do still do not have this issue. Even though I had this problem
in my IOS 6.0.2. Now I don't have this problem at all. Be sure to check out
a comment that an user has stated about what they thought might resolved
this issue by going in to your iTunes on your computer.

As again, I also would like to see how many people still experience the same
issue where it does not stick for you when VO is turned off and on.

Thanks so much!

At times when you have the Screen Curtain turned on, toggling VoiceOver off

Yes. This appears to have been resolved.

Also, they apparently improved button labeling but not icon labeling.

Hello Nicky,

That is a good question. As far as I can tell from looking at my set of
Facebook Status that I am able to open the link. I just double tap on the
Status. On this page is another link which you can then double tap to open.

I have to use both the native app and this because. For odd reasons I will
get some status on Status Report that I don't see in my native app and the
native app will show some things I don't see in the Status Report.

Very puzzling!

So if you find just the native Facebook works great for you. I'm glad! Be
aware you aren't seeing everything. ;)

Hello,

That is a very good question. I almost have to say sadly they haven't had an
update to the app for a very long time. There was a lot of buzz around it at
first and the developer had lots of things they wanted to implement in to
it. We haven't had a peep for so long. That is a great question if they
simply gave up or not?

Sadly, I moved on.

I currently recommend the native Facebook app along with an app called
Status Report. I found using the both gets me by for my needs.

Someday I can only hope that something or somebody come out with a fantastic
all-in-one Facebook app. So until then. This is what we have to work with.

RE: Text Detective App

2013-01-27 Thread Anonymouse
Hello,

Some of the people on here have some great advice.

Must concur that lighting, glare, the level of your shot, the height, and
such are at great important.

Some things to note are that if you get garble messages. It typically means
you are too high when you take your picture.

Remember if you are using the 3gs you will have less accuracy. The 4 becomes
a bit better because of the higher megapixels in the camera. I find that a
phone height is the limit on those. For those on the 4s and the 5 will have
even a better camera and you can raise your phone higher. If you go to high
the less accuracy you will have.

So if you have great lighting. Use a sheet or some sort under the document.
Hold the phone not too high. You should have great results.

Ok, since there are several people who regularly report that they get very
useable results from both apps mentioned, the statement that they do not
work is clearly false. I have written how to use Prizmo several times on
this list. There is a write-up on applevis.com. These apps require lots of
practice to learn how to take a clear image for OCR conversion. Steady hands
and good lighting are essential. So is lots of patience whilst learning. I
use Prizmo every day. It has the best OCR engine. Text Detective is quite
good as well.

RE: is voicebook still being used / supported?

2013-01-26 Thread Anonymouse

RE: Creating a folder within inbox

2013-01-10 Thread Anonymouse
Hello Vicki,

I believe to answer to your question is Yes and No. ;)

Yes, we can create folders with in our email box but there are no set of
rules that we can make to have certain emails go in to those certain folders
other than the Inbox. :(

There is third party app that could do that for us but from what I've heard
is that the best way to do this is to have a Gmail account. Somebody told me
that we can then create rules on the Gmail server or on the site itself.
From here it can then be delivered to the folders that you want.

Hope that help?

RE: IOS 6.0 and Voice Over

2012-09-16 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello,

I'm going to try to put this to a rest. Our posting is correct. We did this
so others would be aware of this issue before upgrading.

This is one major flaw that we have found on the IOS 6. It is usable to a
sense. Just many other features are not. So it is not fully accessible nor
totally inaccessible.

I do plan on having a podcast on this issue for you to listen. I will show
you how to get around some of the problems. I will also show you what you
can't and can do on the podcast.

You can download the podcast on Wednesday. So before or after you have
installed your IOS 6 give this a listen. However, I highly recommend to our
users to listen to the podcast as I will mention many more things to note
besides the App Store. We are not saying not to upgrade but to know what to
expect when you do. That choice is up to you to make.

We are trying to let everyone know that there are problems with the IOS 6.

RE: IOS 6.0 and Voice Over

2012-09-16 Thread AnonyMouse
Jim,

We on the AppleVis don't blow smoke. If we have done that in the past I
certainly like to hear about it. I certainly like to say that AppleVis has
always been a reliable source of information.

As for the App Store issues this may not be a major issue if you consider
turning VO on and off to do certain things. However, this is a pain for most
others. The Features and the Charts I don't believe you can just do by
turning on and off the VO.

I will make this statement on behalf of AppleVis. The App Store is the only
major problems we have found. As for the other issues with in the IOS 6
itself is very minor. There are bugs but nothing major at all. I don't
believe we have ever said there were major issues but we have said there
were other issues.

So I don't like the way people on here would say we at AppleVis are blowing
smoke.

they were going to go as far as they did, they could at leastmention the
areas they were referring to. Let's hope they were blowing smoke and the
others are right that there are not other major issues. A few have said
there are not.

 Hi,

Also, you guys need to realize the changes to the store aren't going
to be completely rolled out until iOS 6 launches on Wednesday, so for
those that can vouch for what Jonathon said, me being one of them,
there's a chance we won't see improvements until the store changes are
completely rolled out.
Even if there are none, I'm sure it's something easily fixable since
the changes to the stores don't' require a new version of iOS itself.
Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

OK, this is my personal experience. The sky isn't falling in, and the
App Store isn't inaccessible. I update apps in iOS6 daily. I think it
is true to say that the information conveyed by VoiceOver could be
 more helpful.

First, the behaviour of the App Store has changed. As has already been
said in this thread, you no longer need to enter your password when you
update.
You do, however, contrary to some speculation in blogs a while ago,
still have to enter your password when you install a free app.

When you update an app, you are no longer taken out of the App Store
and placed on the page the app is installed on. Instead, you simply
stay in the App Store, right where you are. When you double tap the
update button, I can see nothing that gives you confirmation that the
app update has begun downloading. However, if you go to your home
screen right away, you will be able to see that it in fact has,
because you can see the percentage of the download and install
 changing.

So in no way do I think this should be seen as a reason not to update.
yes, it would be nice if the update button changed to an updating, or
downloading, button after it is pressed, but it isn't inaccessible at all.

speculated on, I would say that if you have information which helps to
clear things up, go right ahead. I'll let you be the judge of how much you
can say.

Hopefully people will read this thread in its entirety before commenting.

Lastly, to everyone, I still recommend you read all about the new
changes before you upgrade. The reason is because once you do, you
can't go back, and if you really don't like something, then you will
be forced to deal with it sooner than later. As it is, you will have
to move forward at some point, but maybe by not jumping the gun so
quickly, you won't be as surprised

Jeff,

On Zello this is called the hands free feature. To use the hands free
feature. All you need to do is the following. Use two fingers and double tap
on the screen. You will now be in the hands free mode. Start speaking
without having to leave your fingers on the screen. When finished. Just use
your two fingers double tap to send the hands free mode.

So there are no settings that you need to turn on to use this feature.

Hope that helps!

RE: youmail question

2012-09-15 Thread AnonyMouse
Rebecca,

One of the cool feature I have found that is quite simple to use when you
find yourself in the spot you are describing. What I do is just do a triple
fingers double tap. This will silence the Voice Over but not disable it.
Thus allows you to double tap the record without Voice Over rudely speaking
when you don't want her to talk! ;)

Once you are done. Just use the triple fingers double tap again to turn the
Voice Over voice back on.

Hope that helps.

I'm outside of the sf area, so can't listen to them direct on radio.

Is there a single app which will let you listen to all the games, preferably

Don,

Completely understand where you are coming from. I have tried a number of
these apps for listening to any of the NFL games. I have found that Pro
Football Radio and Live Scores is now my favorite choice.

You can find more information about it at:

This has probably come up before, but I didn't pay much atention until I
discovered I can't find the San Francisco 49ers game on the net anywhere.
I'm outside of the sf area, so can't listen to them direct on radio.

Is there a single app which will let you listen to all the games, preferably
free or close to it.

Thanks,

Don

RE: Muxic is an App Worth Checking Out

Courtney,

In the Settings tab you have the option to do the following two things.

You can turn off the Cross Fading and/or you can adjust the Time Between
Songs. Just use the adjustment to the spacing that you want.

the App Store.

Music lovers love Muxic.

Why?

Muxic gives you the most features of any music player on the app store. From
crossfading to volume normalization to artist info and exploration features,
Muxic is the music fan's best
friend.

If you're passionate about music, Muxic is the only way to listen.

Features:

* Intelligent Crossfading eliminates the gaps between your music, without
fading out too early or fading in too late. It analyzes your music to give
you that radio-style listening
experience you crave.

* Per-song customization to further refine the crossfading fade-in,
fade-out, volume and normalization levels.

* Volume normalization options that can make your quiet music louder.

* Genre stations for quick mixes of similar music.

* Similar artist stations makes playlists based on similar artists that
exist in your library.

* Learn about your music with the artist info screen that has tons of
information about the artists in your library, including similar artists,
biographies, and more! (Data provided by The Echo Nest).

* Tweet what you're listening to!

* Gesture-enabled playlist, library and now playing screens.

* Advanced playlist capabilities for easy playlist creation and maintenance,
including the ability to select whether you want to replace the queue, mix
into the queue, or append to the
queue whenever you want to add a group of songs.

* Informative lock screen image to show you what's playing now, and what's
coming up soon.

* Full song scrubbing.

* Airplay enabled (via the lock screen).

* Full support for headphone controls.

* Full accessibility features for visually-impaired users.

* Instructions built into the app.

* Ability to turn off crossfading.

Fine print: As is the case with most other crossfading apps, DRM-protected
music cannot be played through Muxic, as the crossfading and normalization
cannot be applied. MP3s, as well
as most recent purchases from iTunes in the past couple of years are likely
not DRM-protected.

Just adding my own comments to that description, it appears another thing
that should be added to the fine print is that songs need to be on your
phone, not in the cloud through iTunes Match.

If you're familiar with Winamp and the SQR crossfading plug-in many of us
have been using for over a decade, it's almost as good as that, very
impressive. It is making intelligent decisions about when to play the next
song based on the volume of the finishing one. The normalisation is also
excellent, it sounds like it is using a little dynamic compression.

Johnathan,

I'm in total agreement with you on this. I just tried this out last night. I
love it so much I've done the same thing. It is now my dock as well.

I really love the fact how it takes all of your music and categorize it all
by itself to create the Stations. That is something I have never seen

For $0.99 this is a must have. If you want a great music player.

RE: Talking gps?

2012-08-08 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello,

The MapQuest has some potential. It isn't perfect but does work. I love the
fact you can enter an address as well give you the ability to select from a
search. I sure wish it had a Favorite to store my locations.

AroundMe is nice if you want something FREE as well. However, this doesn't
give you the ability to enter an address as you would in MapQuest but it is
very easy to use. This app is great if you are walking to a certain business
or shop. It is free and does offer turn-by turn just like the MapQuest and
it also provides Favorites.

Navigon is very large. The more maps you want the more it will suck the
living space out of your phone. However, the upside is that you don't use
data. The downside is the space it consumes and the map and POI can get
outdated quicker. It is also very expensive. There a lot of people that love
this GPS program.

MotionX is very nice because the Map and the Search are quite up to date.
However, the downside is that it uses data. I'll be honest I don't know how
much. So if you are tight on the data then Navagon is your choice. I prefer
this one over all of the other apps I've used that are a paid app with a
subscription fee for every year.

There are other GPS such as Tom-Tom, Garmin, WASZ, MyWay and etc.

Don't forget that if you have the iPhone 4s or might be getting the iPhone
5. That the IOS 6 will have a whole brand new Map App. It will be accessible
and will offer turn-by-turn navigation for free. So before you shell out
those big bucks. Think twice because this is coming down the pipe. Poor
souls of Navagon, MotionX, Garmin and etc. that are a paid app with
subscription. They will soon disappear unless the new IOS 6 Map App doesn't
live up to expectation. Too soon to know!

Those with the iPhone 3gs and the iPhone 4 then you will be safe in
purchasing those expensive GPS apps. The IOS 6 Map will not offer the
turn-by-turn to those devices. :(

AnonyMouse

I don't think most blind people are narrow minded. I don't think the blind
are any more or less narrow minded than the rest of the population. I'd also
claim that someone who can't see that NaviGon might be useful to someone
else, even though they don't care for it themselves, is also exhibiting some
narrow mindedness.

I myself am partial to MapQuest from AoL, but I don't have a lot of
experience with other apps. I tried MapQuest, since it was free, and since
it's done everything I wanted to, I haven't look at much else, except for
YellowPages, which I don't like as much, although I'm still looking at it. I
would never think to call someone else who doesn't like MapQuest to be
narrow minded though.

Choice is good, and it's good that we have different options here so people
can find and use what works for them. It's not narrow mindedness if people
end up liking different options.

Heck with GPS Drive I don't even have to enter an address. Just type

 Hi,

Seconded. If your major complaint with Navigon is the point of
interest database, that's sort of like complaining about a car because
they don't make it in the color you want. The key to a GPS app is in
route navigation and directions. If you enter an address, navigon
does a great job of getting you there. I've never had issues with it
getting me from point A to point B.

If I have a complaint about navigon, it's in the destination entering
user interface. That definately requires some practice time. But,
despite the other post to the contrary, I've found the POI database
fine for my needs, and since it integrates with around me, and I can
send POIs directly to navigon from there, finding a point of interest is
quite easy.

Also, if you can't stand address entry, the third party app called
Navigon Now, can make that part simple too.

So, if there are other issues with Navigon beyond it didn't have the
one point of interest I happened to be looking for, then by all means,
bring itt up an dlet's discuss.

Hello,

You are quite welcome!

There is one more thing to note. Somebody had made a great point.

Depending where you live and where you go will make a huge difference. If
Navagon will be the only GPS program that will work in a non-data area or
dead spot. All other GPS program that I am aware of will fail to work.

It is a hard decision. I know. So if you hike, go off roading, or go to an
isolated area and need a GPS then the Navagon is your bet. If not, I really
would look at the other alternatives. It really comes down to your budget
and what and where you need it.

Somebody mentioned that Navagon that you pay up front and forget. I don't
think that is the case. I could be wrong but you have to pay for the
additional price for keeping those maps you downloaded up to date. Correct
me if I am wrong? I thought the update comes out 4 times a year if you paid
for that subscription?

Thanks so much, Anony - this is extremely helpful. It seems this 3gs user
has some research to do! :)

Take care,

Regards,

They think only one thing is the best. I have stated other problems
with this app in the past. Ariande, GPS Drive, Hop Stop are the main
 apps
I use.
Heck with GPS Drive I don't even have to enter an address. Just type
in the business name and most of the time I am going to the closest
 one in the list

RE: i have a dilemma

2012-08-05 Thread AnonyMouse
Technically, since I don't know the whole story but if your mom owns the
contract on the phone even if you had paid for it. It was on her account as
a contract. So if she reported it stolen and turned off the phone. She is
the only one that can call them to turn it back on. You won't be able to
unlock the phone to take it another carrier without it being reported
stolen. Verizon won't unlock it because it is reported as stolen and if the
contract hasn't been paid off then I'm afraid you own a brick until she
reverses it.

Sorry.

RE: Chrome question on iPhone

2012-07-29 Thread AnonyMouse
I would be curious as well if anyone knows of an easy way to do this? From
my experience with Chrome on the IOS is that on a non VO mode you just take
the page and flick it to the left to close the page. With the VO mode on you
can't do this. I've tried just about every gesture I could try and had no
success. That is the only place in the Chrome that I found to be not
accessible. Darn shame!

That is a real shame. I've tried in the past 3 years to get them to offer
the Audiopass on my iPhone and I get the same response every single year.
Sigh!

Look like I will be going back to my backup plan that I used last year. It
worked pretty well and I was able to get most of the games but not all. So I
thought I throw this out there since AudioPass is once again not going to be
available on the iPhone! Sigh!
