A BrailleTouch Discovery

2013-02-04 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, as I now
delete most emails concerning BrailleTouch. But I have found a
way to change how the phone is held in BrailleTouch. By default,
you hold the device with the home button to the right. However,
I have discovered that when I am in the braille keyboard, and
turn the rotor, it changes the keyboard so that the home button
is to the left. I get a click like I typed an invalid character,
but then, in order to type, I have to turn my phone so that the
home button is to the left. I could be wrong, but I don't recall
reading about this in the manual.

re: Alt F4 on iOS

2013-02-03 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. Hidden is definitely the best word to describe this
command. Not many people know about it. IOs provides a way to
force quit applications. This is normally used if an app is
non-responsive, but I have used it a few times when I've been too
lazy to go into the app switcher. (lol) To force quit an app, do
the following:
1. In the app you want to force quit, hold down the power button
until VoiceOver says Slid to power off.
2. Release the power button, and hold down the home button. In
a few seconds, you will be returned to the home scree, and the
app will be closed.

Hi all,

In the event I may be missing something, is there an equivalent
for
Alt F4 on an iOS device? I would like to launch an app such as
Clock,
set my alarm, then simply close the app completely. As is I'm
having

an
app to close. I realize Apple does what it does, and I realize
that
ultimately there may not be many memory resources used, and I

I've not come across, and I'm hoping someone out there may know

this close app command might be. (Smile).

re: access note, is it worth it?

2013-01-30 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. I have not tried AccessNote, and don't plan on doing so.
In my opinion, a notetaking app is not worth $20. There is a
built-in Notes app in iOs, and if you want more features, I'm
pretty sure that there are plenty of $0.99 alternatives on the
App store. This is just my opinion though.

re: Iphone5 Says Double-Tap To Delete?

2013-01-22 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. Firstly, when sending a post to the list, it is always a
good idea to present as much information as posible about your
problem. It will help people to better determine what is going
on. Under what circumstances does your iPhone say double-tap to
delete? If this happens on your home screen, this means that you
have used the double-tap and hold gesture (where you double tap
and hold on an app icon) After you have done this, double-tapping
on an app will delet it, rather than open it. You can fix this
by pressing the home button.

Here are some of the apps I've used.
1. White Noise
2. Sleep Machine (I don't think this one is accessible any more)
3. Astral Dreams
4. Pzizz Sleep
5. Pzizz Energizer
All of the apps I mentioned, except for Astral Dreams, have a

Re: any more voices for the i phone?

2013-01-13 Thread Joshua Klander

To change the voice:
1. Select settings general and accessibility.
2. Go to the VoiceOver button.
3. Go to the language rotor button.
4. As you swipe through the options in the language rotor, you
will hear what each voice sounds like. To add a voice,
double-tap on it.
5. Once you have voices selected, you should have a new option
in your rotor called language that will let you chose from the
voices you have added.

re: Unjail breaking an iPhone 4S running 5.0.1.

2013-01-12 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. Absolutely do not use the reset options on your phone.
Because your phone is jailbroken, these options will not work;
they will just render your device unbootable. Restoring from
iTunes is the only way to unjailbreak an iphone. The process can
take quite a while, so you may just need to wait awhile. If you
continue having problems with restooring from iTunes, there are
some things you could try, but I would recommend trying another
restore. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Really cool stuff I think.
IOS 6 may be lacking some real big features, but it seems to be

Hope you find this of use.

re: How to downgrade to IOS 5.1.1

2012-09-23 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. First of all, if you want to downgrade, your phone will
need to be jailbroken. After your phone is jailbroken, you will
be able to back up your shsh blobs. SHSH blobs are basically
apple's way of signing firmware, and also their way of preventing
users from downgrading. Apple is so against users jailbreaking
their phones, that they will force you to use the latest version
of IOS.
After your phone is jailbroken, it is easy to back up your
shsh blobs. You can either use a program like Tiny Umbrella, or
you can use a utility called ishshit to back up your shsh blobs
right from your phone. I'm not going to post downgrade
instructions at this point, because I don't know if your phone is
jailbroken. If you want more information on how to jailbreak or
downgrade, let me know.

re: my update did not go well!

2012-09-20 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with your phone, other
than something must have become corrupt during the update. The
first thing you should try is holding down the home and power
buttons for 10 seconds, to see if the device will reboot. If it
doesn't work the first time, try it again. If iTunes won't even
recognize your phone, I am doubtful that this will work, but its
worth trying before getting involved in a more complicated
solution. The next thing that you could try is putting your
phone in DFU mode and then restoring with iTunes:

1. Connect your phone to the computer, and have iTunes open.
2. To enter DFU mode:
- Hold down the home and power buttons for about 10 seconds.
- Next, let go of the power button, but keep holding down the
home button until you hear your computer making the USB connect
sound. This will usually take about 15 seconds.
Note: You may need to make more than one attempt to enter DFU
mode, as timeing is absolutely essential.

3. Finally, try restoring your phone from iTunes.
If you have any further questions, let me know.

re: MP3 Files

2012-09-09 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. If you do not want to use iTunes, you might want to try
an app called box player. You will need to have a dropbox
account for it to work, but it will allow you to actually
download your mp 3 files from dropbox.

re: Fixing an inadvertent folder

2012-09-02 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. You will need to drag the apps out of the folder. To do
this:

1. Open the folder.
2. Double-tap and hold on the app. Wait for Voiceover to
announce that you are moving the app.
3. Quickly swipe to the left. This should remove the app from
the folder. Once both apps are out of the folder, it should
disappear.

RE: Fleksy on Android devices

2012-08-23 Thread Joshua Klander
I also feel the same way. I love my iPhone way too much to want
to switch to another platform, especially with its accessibility
limitations.
I did, however, have a rather interesting thought about how
Syntelia could make fleksy a keyboard for iOs. If apple will not
allow Fleksy to be a keyboard for ios, then why couldn't Syntelia
either make a version of fleksy for jailbroken devices, or make a
tweak that jailbreak users could install that would make Fleksy a
keyboard for iOs? Although I can't think of specific examples, I
have heard of developers that make two versions of their app: one
for the app store, and one for cydia. This is just my opinion,
but I don't see why it couldn't be done.

This is how I feel as well. Fleksy on Android as a keyboard
default
wouldn't be enough to cause me to switch from iPhone to Android.
Although
Android has definitely improved in terms of accessibility, from
the reviews
I've read and the podcasts I've listened to, it still has a long
long way to
go before it's comparable to IOS. I would never consider
switching unless
access was at least the same if not better than my iPhone. Just
my
thoughts. Personally, I'm hoping that Apple sees how terrific
Fleksy is and
works something out so that it can be used across the OS as a
default. A

long shot I know, but one can dream.

Hi from the Fleksy team. We are writing to ask a question to
those in the

As you know, we are committed to develop Fleksy and make it
available for

more and more users.

One of the restrictions we've had so far, is that on iOS, Fleksy
cannot
replace your system keyboard across the device. We provide as
much
integration as possible, letting you email, SMS, tweet, and
(soon) post to
Facebook from within Fleksy. And you can copy and paste to any
other app.

We are trying to go beyond this: we could provide Fleksy as a
keyboard
across the device, so you can use it in every single app without
the need to
have a separate app, or to copy and paste. We've also noticed
that Android
is becoming more and more accessible for visually impaired users
with each

update.

So, here's a question for the list:

If there was a phone that was accessible, and that had Fleksy
built in from
the start. By built in, we mean that Fleksy could be used as a
system
keyboard on every app, and that Fleksy would come with the phone,
i.e.

without having to purchase the app separately.

How likely would this be to make you consider buying such a
device?

Obviously we are talking about a hypothetical scenario, so for
now let's
assume all other features will be the same as your current
device.

Would the availability of Fleksy as a system typing mode to use
in every app
make you consider an accessible Android phone in your next
upgrade?

Looking forward to your thoughts on this.

box player

2012-08-20 Thread Joshua Klander
Hello. I am writing to inform everyone about an app that I find
quite useful.
If you are like me, and don't like the iTunes interface, then
give box player a try. It is a media player app that can sink
with your dropbox account. So, instead of dealing with the
hassle of syncing playlists, you can simply import songs from
your dropbox account. Of course, the app lacks some features
that iTunes has, but I like having the ability to be able to
simply import my music from dropbox right to my iPhone. The app
is accessible, and only costs $0.99.

Hello. At one time, I had the same problem you are currently
having. Here are a few tips:
1. Know the qwerty keyboard. Before using Fleksy, you should
have a good mental picture of where everything is on the qwerty
keyboard.
2. Type with your index fingers. It does not work very well to
type exactly like you would on a qwerty keyboard. I have found
that the most productive and accurate way for me to use fleksy is
to type with my index fingers.

On another note, how do you do a wink and a smile with

It is fun to type the Fleksy way.

I was looking around for the ampersand sign and came across the

I was also successful in doing the smile wink via punctuation.

I like that there is the option to use the lower right button for

One question I have is, how do I enter a space. For example,
when I entered

Anyway, I just wanted to add in my positive comments on this app.
I'm
pleased more than I expected. I had fast fun composing a
