That full screen button only appears on apps designed for iPhone and iPod, so they do fill the full iPad screen. - Original Message - From: "Kimber Gardner" To: Sent: Friday, July 29, 2016 2:52 PM Subject: Re: Questions regarding the iPad mini Sieghard, On my iPad I have often seen a button that says something like "full screen mode." However, while it came preinstalled with iOS 9 just like the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus which were also released last September, the iPad Mini only has an A8 processor and not the A9 of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. That is Apple's second generation 64 Bit processor and I don't think for your purposes this will make a noticeable difference. Compared to buying an iPod fifth Gen I think you made a good decision as the iPad Mini will probably serve you better as a secondary device to use at home. The nice thing is that Apple made the iPad Mini 4 lighter and thinner than the previous generations, it is only 6.1mm thick which I believe is the same thickness as an iPod Touch. The iPad Mini 4 also has an upgraded 8 Megapixel rear and 1.2 Megapixel front camera for selfis and video calls. As Ed pointed out, if you want it to behave more like your phone, you can turn off split view which splits the screen into two areas for some apps like Mail. I think, however, that if you use the iPad Mini in portrait mode it is like the iPhone anyways. As for buttons it basically has just what your iPhone has: a home button with Touch Id, volume up and down buttons, the power/sleep button and a little flip switch like the one on the iPhone except on the iPad it isn't used for muting your iPad, but it can be set up to lock in your orientation in either portrait or landscape mode. All in all iOS 9 on an iPad will be very much like iOS 9 on your iPhone, but as Ray pointed out, due to the larger screen your gestures may have to be a big bigger although this is much more the case with a full-size 9.7 inch iPad and I don't even want to guess how it would be on the large iPad Pro. I would just search Amazon for "iPad Mini keyboard cases" and see what comes up. I was able to get a promotion on it, and it was a great deal for me. I'm very excited about this! However, I have never had an iPad of any sort. How do they work? Are they somehow different from an iPod? What sorts of things can you do with them, that you cannot do with the iPod? I got done I pad mini for. The lady said that this was the latest generation. I hope he is correct about that. I was able to get the 64 gig model, and this really made me happy. Plus, I got it in silver. Not like that really mattered. But I wanted to be a little different. They had gold. But I thought that was a bit much! Will I be able to turn on voice over by myself? If so, how would I go about doing this? Wooden buttons are on the iPad mini? Also, is there a case I can get for the iPad mini, that comes with a combination keyboard? Or is this product too small for that? Any help, or suggestions, would be very much appreciated. However, while it came preinstalled with iOS 9 just like the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus which were also released last September, the iPad Mini only has an A8 processor and not the A9 of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Yes, the limit is two apps open at once, and if you have the big iPad Pro, you can have full-sized apps both of them. On other iPads, it's more compromised. As a blind person, I have to say, I really don't see the point. But for sighted people, I get it. Re: Questions regarding the iPad mini
This is not split screen. Split screen is something that was introduced I think when they introduced the iPad Pro last fall. That is where you have to apps on the screen at once. Split screen. What you guys are talking about with the two panes has been around since the iPad first came on the scene, and it is just how the iPad interface is. I really don't think you can make it so it isn't split screen. Like in settings, the main group is on the left, and the sub group is on the right. I don't think you can change this. Hi Sieghard, I have the iPad mini second generation, and i have it set to portrait mode. I can't find any button, that will stop it, going into split screen. looked all over settings, to no avail. The iPad Mini 4 also has an upgraded 8 Megapixel rear and 1.2 Megapixel front camera for selfis and video calls. Re: Questions regarding the iPad mini
Hi Sieghard, Well, even on my very own iPad one, which is stuck back on iOS five point something, way before any sort of split screen mode came on the scene, you had that deal with the listing down the left-hand side and the right-hand side containing other stuff. It's even possible to get out of the thing that you thought had focus by accidentally touching or even flicking on the wrong part of the screen. So you can end up with some app down at the end of your apps list having focus in settings instead of the list of things under what you thought had focus. I hope that made sense. It seems harder to put into words than it is to actually do. Hi Mary, Thanks for clarifying the difference between split screen mode and the way some apps like Settings and Mail are displayed in two panels. I only have used my Mom's iPad 2 a few times and am not that experienced with iPads. I do, however, seem to remember that if the iPad (even the bigger one) is in portrait mode that apps are not displayed like that and instead it is like on the iPhone where, for example, you would have to double tap on Accessibility in order to open up that option and display the choices. Anyhow, I guess one would get used to how this work very quickly. Hi Terri, Yes, the iPad Mini is Apple's newest iPad Mini, it was first available for purchase on September 9, 2015. However, while it came preinstalled with iOS 9 just like the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus which were also released last September, the iPad Mini only has an A8 processor and not the A9 of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Hi, I believe you can turn off the split mode on the mini and the full size iPad. I have an iPad and I turned off split mode so it is more like my iPhone 6s plus. Re: Questions regarding the iPad mini
the short answer to your voiceover question is yes. If you are just pulling the thing out of the box and starting from a condition of ground 0 triple clicking the home button should bring up voiceover and if you recall the process you went through to set up your IPhone, You'll be off to the races. Can't comment on the differences between the devices but in many respects they should behave similarly. If you have an IPhone, the learning curve should not be that steep. You might have to retrain your hands a bit but that would be about it. Others may expand on or amend my comments. -Original Message- From: Terri Stimmel Sent: Thursday, July 28, 2016 00:22 To: Viphone Subject: Questions regarding the iPad mini Hello everybody, Today I ordered an iPad mini from AT&T. RE: Questions regarding the iPad mini
Have you ever placed your hands on an iPad mini? If not, then it may not have been a good decision to purchase something of this nature without first interacting with it. I'm getting the sense you're not really sure what it is you purchased. Here is a link where you can read more details in terms of what you may have purchase: iPad mini 4 - Specs - Apple - https://is.gd/dOZIg2 If you can specify exactly what it is you purchased, then you will get much more detailed feedback. You wrote the following but it doesn't make sense: "I got done I pad mini for. The lady said that this was the latest generation. I hope he is correct about that.
