2023-09-21 Thread Julian
Hi, I'm not sure if this is already been suggested. If you have access to a cited person for a few seconds, have them go in to voiceover settings and change the text to speech engine. I had this happen once while updating a clients phone. This is what fixed it. I used AIRA to help me navigate the screen and go in there and change the text to speech engine. Once I did that, Voiceover was happily talking again. Hope that helps.Sent from my iPhoneOn Sep 21, 2023, at 1:31 PM, Paula Pinder wrote:

What happen if you ask Siri for the weather forecast? Is that getting read?
If so, have you told Siri "Turn off Voiceover", then wait 5 or so seconds,
activate Siri and say "Turn on Voiceover".
If at that point you still don't hear Voiceover, do you have a wired headset
you can plug into the Lightning port. Try that and see if you hear Voiceover on
the headset.

Skipping the Android reference, if the VoiceOver sounds are playing, either
speech is muted which can be unmuted with a three finger double tap; or the
volume got turned down too low. To check the volume, Flick up with two fingers
which will start reading at the top of the screen, and immediately start
tapping the volume up button. If that is the problem, the voice will slowly
become audible.

Paula,

I'm sorry if a factory reset is the only thing to get your iPhone talking
again. Did you ever call Apple Accessibility and ask them to connect to your
device to help with this issue. One time they helped me when VoiceOver volume
got set to 0 when I was switching between the iPhone's external speaker and a
connected Bluetooth speaker. This is one reason why I recommend that everyone
keep a pair of wired Apple Earpods to connect when there are problems with
VoiceOver or other audio issues.

You've stated that you've done everything suggested in this thread to no avail
so I hope a factory reset makes things right.

Re: IPHONE UPDATE BROKEN MY PHONE

2023-09-20 Thread Alan Lemly
Paula, I've not yet upgraded to iOS 17 so this is just me thinking out loud. My experience with most major iOS updates since getting my first iPhone over 10 years ago is that audio issues abound for a day or two after the upgrade. Whether these issues relate to my TTS VoiceOver voice not speaking the same or some other audio issue such as pronunciation snafus, etc, I can't say. If you've tried the various other suggestions that have been made, I'd suggest asking Siri to set volume to 100 and see what happens. Alan Lemly Sent from my iPhoneOn Sep 20, 2023, at 3:46 PM, Paula Pinder wrote:Hi AllThanks for your replies. RE: IPHONE UPDATE BROKEN MY PHONE

2023-09-20 Thread James Bentley
I am getting in to the middle of this but try doing a 2 finger swipe up and
very quickly start tapping your volume up buttton to see if you can turn up the
voice over volume.

If you have your voiceover shortcut set to where you can just turn it off and on that way, you could do that. Otherwise, tell Siri to turn voiceover off. Then tell Siri to turn voiceover back on. That should do it.This sounds like a recurrence of the annoying now you see it now you don’t bug where periodically, VoiceOver speech just decides to go away. In my experience, getting back to the home screen and waiting a couple of seconds brings it back. That’s on iOS 16. Before, when it was worse, I used to have to turn voiceover off and back on. That always worked. If you have your voiceover shortcut set to where you can just turn it off and on that way, you could do that. Otherwise, tell Siri to turn VoiceOver off. Then tell Siri to turn voiceover back on. That should do it. Also, are you sure you didn’t turn speech off accidentally? Three finger double tap toggle between turning speech off and speech on.Sent from my iPhoneOn Sep 20, 2023, at 1:06 PM, Paula Pinder wrote:Hi AllI've updated my iPhone to IOS17 and I can no longer get it to speak.
