Re: Issue with Live Stream Stopping After Locking iPhone
I'm not in the US, but I do have both EWTN TV and EWTN Radio as satellite channels. Is it possible you're picking up the EWTN TV channel, not the EWTN radio one? - Original Message - From: 'David Goldfield' via VIPhone viphone@googlegroups.com To: 'David Goldfield' via VIPhone viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2014 2:19 PM Subject: Issue with Live Stream Stopping After Locking iPhone Normally, I can switch on a podcast or live stream from a radio tuner app, lock my iPhone and have the stream continue to play. There's one exception to this and that's with the EWTN app. When I load the app and play one of their live streams, the stream plays until I lock the phone, after which the audio stops. Is this a bug in the app or are there certain types of feeds which don't play when the phone is locked. If this information is helpful, when I play the feed Voiceover reads a hint saying that I can tap to show or hide video controls. This is odd, considering that this is an audio and not a video feed. RE: Issue with Live Stream Stopping After Locking iPhone
Hi Rob, I just tried this with Agogo and it plays fine for me in the background. If I start playing something and then press home to go out of the app it continues to play and if I then press the power button to lock my phone it still continues to play. Have you tried to reboot your phone? Occasionally Audible stops playing if I exit the app or lock the screen, a reboot always fixes this problem. Re: Issue with Live Stream Stopping After Locking iPhone
Contacting the developer is always an option, however a possible solution just occurred to me. It seems that the issue may go back to the screen locking after a certain period of time. To fix this, perhaps change the amount of time before the screen locks. The default is one minute, but I think you can go up to 5 minutes before it locks, or even opt to have it never lock. Be careful with the never lock item though since your battery could be greatly drained as a result. When in TweetList 4 or other apps where I know the screen lock to happen, I will touch the screen in some place after the screen dimmed message is spoken so that it will stay unlocked for another 90 seconds or so. I have realized that there are some apps that don't let videos play when the phone is locked. For instance, if I watch a video through TweetList 4 and then I lock the phone the video stops. It doesn't start again until I unlock the phone and go back to the video play screen. Best, Wayne On 6/25/14, Alan Paganelli alanandsuza...@earthlink.net wrote: Have you tried show on lock screan? Yes, this makes perfect sense. If it is a video, locking the screen deactivates the video component. Sighted people want video to stop automatically when they are no longer able to see it. If it is audio only, it will continue playing when the screen is locked, and therefore blank. This behaviour is normal, proper, and expected. You are not listening to a television stream, you are watching it. In order to watch a television stream, the screen must be unlocked so it is active. Sighted people do not want the sound without the picture. I seriously doubt this behaviour will change as many, many sighted people would become very upset. If it is in a video app, it is probably tagging to iOS as a video feed, so video rules would apply.
