Hello, I've used Uber a couple of times, and with good results. When I used the app, the only non accessible part was fine tuning your location via a graphical pin on a map. However, since you usually get a text or a call from the driver who is looking for you, you can clarify any GPS discrepancies directly with your driver. I was amazed at how well it worked and if you have a picture set up in your profile, the driver even knows who to look for. I cannot comment on the cost, but it is fairly competitive with other car services. Although, I think I could have done a little better on my airport ride prearranging a car. That said, it's nice not to have to think about the tip or cash or card. Uber does that all for you. I've at least razed the issue with voiceover on the iPhone with them last summer, so hopefully they are thinking about it as the app gets updates. --k Faith doesn't give you the answers, it merely stops you from asking the questions. If the VoiceOver user double taps the address of the location displayed on the app as the pick up location, an edit field appears. Here, an address can be entered or a landmark, such as a business name. Once this is submitted, the app finds it in its database and asks the end user to select the item. This is usually the full address or the complete name and address of the business. Once this is fully completed, the end user can proceed to selecting the drop off location. Uber does not document this and a helpful hint should be provided to VoiceOver users explaining the process of modifying the pick up location. This is strongly encouraged in Apple's app design guidelines, which Uber and the other rideshare companies do not follow precisely. Uber may need to be sued to take our concerns seriously. You don't have to use the map pins at all. Just tap on search for location, nearby ones will be listed and if yours is not, just type it in. The drivers prefer this anyway. I use Uber exclusively and just have no issues with it whatsoever. I highly recommend it. They have the potential of surge pricing but it has only happened once to me and you totally know about it. In my case, I waited ten minutes and the surge was over. Obviously that might not happen, but nothing requires you to use them so if there's a surge and you think you can do better elsewhere, go for it. That simple. It's been a while since I used a dob, but there are laws protecting dog users when accessing buildings and services available to the public. These are not municipal regulations but state laws. It may be harder taking legal actions against these services, but if they're offering their service to the general public then I'm confident dog guide laws would apply. I've heard that these companies use something called Demand Pricing. During high ride volume times, ride prices can actually go up, and sometimes up quite significantly, like during rush hour and rainstorms. I have used both Uber and Lift independently. I thought the Uber app was a little better, but both are fine. I love Uber in fact. I thought it was not accessible because of the map pins. You don't have to use them at all though. You can search for addresses or it will list addresses you've recently used in the area. If you schedule your pickup in a different location of the building than the actual address, it might appear a little different on the map for the driver. If you think there's any doubt at all, you can call the driver. I generally do unless I'm in front of a really obvious place. This way I can tell them I'm a blind person etc. and shift the responsibility of making that connection to them. They're fine with it. The only part of Uber that is not accessible is tracking the driver's location. but you can track the elapsed time. It's not always accurate but that's not about accessibility. These services are generally operating outside the city regulatory process so there is potential for difficulty. The best way to avoid difficulty is to call the driver as soon as you're scheduled and state that you have the animal. If there's an issue on their part, they can cancel you immediately and you'll get the next driver. what I've told uber is I'm OK with that as long as I get someone. bEats having a cab drive up, see the dog and take off which is how it typically goes here. With Uber, you rate your ride and they rate you, so since I have a five star rating I'm a good rider to get regardless of whether or not I have a dog. Uber seems to agree with me about that so far. But since the city is trying to close it down, I'm also less likely to be filing complaints and trying to work it out if I can. Using the app has been a top notch experience for me in several cities. Hi, I have had trouble using Lyft as all the drivers are busy every time I try to get a lift somewhere. So, I have not had personal experience using this yet. I plan to keep trying though. However, one of my students told me that they had difficulty requesting a lift. Something about not knowing which button to hit, and nothing able to see the phone number of the driver on the screen. She usesvoiceover. Again, I can't speak to this, because I have yet to use lift. You should look at their web sites and compare it with the taxis in your area. Here it's about 20% cheaper but I'm sure it varies. That's why taxi companies want it stopped like right now. People like the improved pricing, the reliability and the fact that you can track them with the app. I train a lot of folks who are deaf blind and it's a perfect solution for them because they can text the driver to let him know they are a deaf blind person. And of course they can use the app itself to get the ride in the first place.
