Re: Where did it come from?

Giving you something is not taking something from you, though. I don't see
that logic. If I am your neighbor, and I know your favorite chocolate bar,
and I buy one at a store, come to your house, and put it where you store
your candy, are you going to be upset at what I did? This is what Apple
did. If you don't want the free gift, don't take it. But why complain??
It just doesn't make sense.

Hi,

I think this all boils down to choice, and the perception of choice. Where
Apple took a misstep was n taking away some perceived control from the
consumer. It's purely psychological in my opinion. In many ways, being
forced to take something you don't want is emotionally similar to having
something taken away from you. I agree, realistically, this isn't a big
deal, and has little to know tangible effects. But in general, I do think
its bad form. I'm actually a bit surprised to see Apple make a mistake with
users such as this.

I mean, if they just had it as a free download in the iTunes store, and had
it on their feature page, none of this would even be an issue. I figured
the marketing people at Apple should have seen this coming.

Just my 2 cents. :)

In my iTunes I found it in the album list. This is ensuring that show

They didn't put it onto your device. You can download it or not. It's your
choice. If you don't download it, the free offer will be removed 30 days after
it was made available. No muss, no fuss, no problem, no invasion of privacy.

material on our devices! Do we own them or Apple?

  A suspect issue I think.

Music you buy is like apps you buy and it has nothing to do with iTunes.
Anyhow, if you don’t download it to your iPhone or other iDevice it takes up no
space just like an app you once bought and deleted takes up no space, but it’s
still there in your purchase history for you to download if you want it.

I found it amusing to see the schtick Tim Cook pulled with that. It was
fun, and while I'm not fanatical about U2, I'll give it a listen. I thought the
song that was performed was pretty nice. But hey, if you don't like them, you
can remove them. It doesn't count against your iCloud space, though.

You stated that if someone gave you a free CD, you would accept it
graciously. The key word here is accept. No doubt that you would, as
 would
 I. However, that is not what Apple did, What they did is more like :
 You
come home, one evening, open up your locked house, and find that someone
broke into your house and placed a CD on your kitchen table without first
asking permission to enter your house. It is not the free album that I

I don't know who Kim is and I guess this is one example where repeating
statements from others without checking results in spreading wrong
information. When I opened iTunes I did not see the album because I have
iTunes set not to show purchases in the cloud. I had to first uncheck
 that
in Settings before I saw the album at which point the album showed up, but
 I
definitely had to download it first. On my phone I also am not showing my
iCloud music and the album still is not showing. I manage the music on my
phone via iTunes and I sync selected music so until I connect my phone to
iTunes and check U2 this will not sync to my phone which means it will
 not
take up a single Bite of space on my phone.

I am really surprised how many people are upset with Apple for giving them
 a
free album especially one from a popular band. Yes, not everybody may
 like
U2, but what ever happened to you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
 If
somebody gave me that CD physically as a present I would not bite off
 their
head, but I would thankthem and if I didn't like it I would either give
 the
CD away or throw it in the garbage later. It appears that in about a
 month
this will disappear from people's accounts if you don't download it.

Hi,

I think this all boils down to choice, and the perception of choice. Where
Apple took a misstep was n taking away some perceived control from the
consumer. It's purely psychological in my opinion. In many ways, being forced
to take something you don't want is emotionally similar to having something
taken away from you. I agree, realistically, this isn't a big deal, and has
little to know tangible effects. But in general, I do think its bad form. I'm
actually a bit surprised to see Apple make a mistake with users such as this.

I mean, if they just had it as a free download in the iTunes store, and had it
on their feature page, none of this would even be an issue. I figured the
marketing people at Apple should have seen this coming.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Actually, I like the way my husband put it. It's more like giving someone a key
to your house, giving them the permission to use it when they deem fit, and
having them leave you a gift. Have you ever seen the iCloud user agreement? It
covers this situation. I don't think Apple is your best bet for privacy, unless
you don't use iTunes or other Apple services at all. I always figure that the
more convenient and interactive a technology is, the more it will affect
privacy. Windows does the same sort of thing by giving you all kinds of
software you don't necessarily specifically order.

Talking about privacy and what to download and install. I recently
help a friend to download and install Google Chrome on a pc laptop.
Next thing i know, we end up with Google Chrome all right, but we also
have Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Pictures, and
Google Drive. Not to say that very annoying Google Toolbar too. So, we
ask for 1 but have extra 6 programs/clients for free.

I think, everyone need to acknowledge that, as long as you are on the
net, there is no 100% privacy. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and
basicly you name it, they will collect some sort of user information
from you somehow. Doesn't matter you like it or not. That is just the
reality of it.

Of course, one could argue that you have more control with the Androy
platform. But, is that really the case? For me, i don't think so. And
that comes from my experience using Androy 4.22, 4.3, and 4.44
platform.

You stated that if someone gave you a free CD, you would accept it
graciously. The key word here is accept. No doubt that you would, as
 would
 I. However, that is not what Apple did, What they did is more like :
You come home, one evening, open up your locked house, and find that
someone broke into your house and placed a CD on your kitchen table

Re: Where did it come from?

2014-09-12 Thread RobH!
Ok, never had music on my device before, but found this album. I clicked
Play, nothing happened. I went down the track list, every button had a
Download Blahblahblah, so do I have to download them all before I can play?
I know it sounds a stupid question to those that do this all the time, but
I thought if an Album was downloaded, it would include the tracks already?

Please clarify, been robbed on ring tones already.

Thanks, RobH.

Don't worry, nothing was hacked. That was a stunt Apple pulled on Tuesday,
basically crediting every Apple ID tied to an iOS device with the album.
Instead of a code to download it, though, it essentially told iTunes that
everyone bought the album. It was free to everyone, and now everyone has
it in their purchase history. Surprise!

Oh, good good, now I understand it better, thanks, will go do that.
Though it didn't stop iTunes charging me again for the same ring tone when I

Re: Where did it come from?

2014-09-12 Thread RobH!
Ok, I have itin my music listing, with previous proviso about downloading
the tracks. I went to the about section in settings and it shows No music
tracks, which would be right until I download these. So most of my memory
remains. Until I do download the tracks, I don't know if I'd then be stuck
with them,... so the comment below seems a moot one at the moment unless
others that have done all this have further explanations or confirmations
and such.

RE: Where did it come from?

2014-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't know who Kim is and I guess this is one example where repeating
statements from others without checking results in spreading wrong
information. When I opened iTunes I did not see the album because I have
iTunes set not to show purchases in the cloud. I had to first uncheck that
in Settings before I saw the album at which point the album showed up, but I
definitely had to download it first. On my phone I also am not showing my
iCloud music and the album still is not showing. I manage the music on my
phone via iTunes and I sync selected music so until I connect my phone to
iTunes and check U2 this will not sync to my phone which means it will not
take up a single Bite of space on my phone.

I am really surprised how many people are upset with Apple for giving them a
free album especially one from a popular band. Yes, not everybody may like
U2, but what ever happened to you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If
somebody gave me that CD physically as a present I would not bite off their
head, but I would thankthem and if I didn't like it I would either give the
CD away or throw it in the garbage later. It appears that in about a month
this will disappear from people's accounts if you don't download it.

Regards,

Sieghard

RE: Where did it come from?

2014-09-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sieghard,

My friend, I agree with you in most aspects of your reply accept one.

You stated that if someone gave you a free CD, you would accept it
graciously. The key word here is accept. No doubt that you would, as would
I. However, that is not what Apple did, What they did is more like : You
come home, one evening, open up your locked house, and find that someone
broke into your house and placed a CD on your kitchen table without first
asking permission to enter your house. It is not the free album that I and
others object to but the way in which they delivered it.

It appears that in about a month
this will disappear from people's accounts if you don't download it.

free album especially one from a popular band. Yes, not everybody may like
U2, but what ever happened to you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If
somebody gave me that CD physically as a present I would not bite off their
head, but I would thankthem and if I didn't like it I would either give the
CD away or throw it in the garbage later. It appears that in about a month
this will disappear from people's accounts if you don't download it.

repeating statements from others without checking results in

Actually, it is more like, you have a mailbox that opens on to the shelf on
your wall. Apple placed the album on that shelf. You can take the album from
the shelf into your house, or you can leave it. If you leave it, the mail man

In this case, people are looking for a reason to complain about Apple. Their

Hi,

According to Kim Komando Apple did this but once it is in your ITunes you can't
get rid of it. And, it is taking up most of the memory on small memory IPhones.

Wow am I glad I almost never use ITunes.

I found it amusing to see the schtick Tim Cook pulled with that. It was fun,
and while I'm not fanatical about U2, I'll give it a listen. I thought the song

Music you buy is like apps you buy and it has nothing to do with iTunes.
Anyhow, if you don't download it to your iPhone or other iDevice it takes up
no space just like an app you once bought and deleted takes up no space, but
it's still there in your purchase history for you to download if you want
it.

RE: Where did it come from?

2014-09-11 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Haya,

If I understand your question correctly, like me, you want to delete the U2
album from your iCloud storage.

Well, the short answer is that you cannot delete it from iCloud unless you are
a iTunes Match subscriber. I know this sounds hard to believe but, according
to the folks at Apple, it is true.

The best we non-iTunes Match subscribers can do is to hide it from our local
devices.

If you perform a quick Google search you will find that many, many people, like
me, took great offense at Apple placing uninvited music in our accounts just so
they could manipulate release statistics.

The worst part is that we, as non-Match subscribers can’t get rid of it.

As I read on the web, someone wrote, “I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay $28
just to delete one album.”

Haya, you might try contacting iTunes directly and perhaps they’ll remove it
for you.

A friend of mine told me that, on October 14th, if you have not downloaded the
album, it should be automatically removed from your iCloud account.

When it’s all said and done, I think Apple really messed up on this; all they
had to do was to simply ask for permission before pushing the album to us. Of
course, if they had done that, my guess is that most people would have said no
and then they couldn’t call the release the largest release in history.

Just keep this in mind the next time you hear Apple boast about how much it
values its customer’s right to privacy.

Mark
