Re: Where did it come from?
Giving you something is not taking something from you, though. I don't see that logic. If I am your neighbor, and I know your favorite chocolate bar, and I buy one at a store, come to your house, and put it where you store your candy, are you going to be upset at what I did? This is what Apple did. If you don't want the free gift, don't take it. But why complain?? It just doesn't make sense. --- Be positive! Hi, I think this all boils down to choice, and the perception of choice. Where Apple took a misstep was n taking away some perceived control from the consumer. It's purely psychological in my opinion. In many ways, being forced to take something you don't want is emotionally similar to having something taken away from you. I agree, realistically, this isn't a big deal, and has little to know tangible effects. But in general, I do think its bad form. I'm actually a bit surprised to see Apple make a mistake with users such as this. I mean, if they just had it as a free download in the iTunes store, and had it on their feature page, none of this would even be an issue. I figured the marketing people at Apple should have seen this coming. In my iTunes I found it in the album list. This is ensuring that show iTunes in the cloud purchases is checked in the store section of preferences and show music in the cloud is checked in the view menu. Re: Where did it come from?
I found it on my iPhone 5s under music artists, and then the letter U. There it was the first one. Double tapping on U2, I saw the album title and a list of the songs. I could then download any or all the tracks or if I didn't want it, it would be easy enough to delete it. No big deal. I downloaded the album to see if I would like it or not. I didn't so I deleted it and thank you Apple. They could of just as easily have given me the finger. Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2014! Teenagers; Tired of being harassed by your stupid parents? There is an edit button in the music app. Also, the actions rotor item becomes active when you go to song titles, so you can delete them individually. There might be a way to delete the entire album in one action, but I haven't found it yet. Re: Where did it come from?
Just my 2 cents. :) Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On Sep 13, 2014, at 1:08 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Mark, but it's their house and not yours. Re: Where did it come from?
Actually, I like the way my husband put it. It's more like giving someone a key to your house, giving them the permission to use it when they deem fit, and having them leave you a gift. Have you ever seen the iCloud user agreement? It covers this situation. I don't think Apple is your best bet for privacy, unless you don't use iTunes or other Apple services at all. I always figure that the more convenient and interactive a technology is, the more it will affect privacy. Windows does the same sort of thing by giving you all kinds of software you don't necessarily specifically order. Re: Where did it come from?
Talking about privacy and what to download and install. I recently help a friend to download and install Google Chrome on a pc laptop. Next thing i know, we end up with Google Chrome all right, but we also have Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Pictures, and Google Drive. Not to say that very annoying Google Toolbar too. So, we ask for 1 but have extra 6 programs/clients for free. I think, everyone need to acknowledge that, as long as you are on the net, there is no 100% privacy. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and basicly you name it, they will collect some sort of user information from you somehow. Doesn't matter you like it or not. That is just the reality of it. Of course, one could argue that you have more control with the Androy platform. But, is that really the case? For me, i don't think so. And that comes from my experience using Androy 4.22, 4.3, and 4.44 platform. On 14/09/2014, Alan Paganelli alanandsuza...@earthlink.net wrote: This is all a tempest in a tea pot. Ok, never had music on my device before, but found this album. I clicked Play, nothing happened. I went down the track list, every button had a Download Blahblahblah, so do I have to download them all before I can play? I know it sounds a stupid question to those that do this all the time, but I thought if an Album was downloaded, it would include the tracks already? Oh, good good, now I understand it better, thanks, will go do that. Though it didn't stop iTunes charging me again for the same ring tone when I changed phone, same identity, just newer phone. £2.99 for a few seconds of sound, which I seldom even use. Re: Where did it come from?
Ok, I have itin my music listing, with previous proviso about downloading the tracks. I went to the about section in settings and it shows No music tracks, which would be right until I download these. So most of my memory remains. Until I do download the tracks, I don't know if I'd then be stuck with them,... so the comment below seems a moot one at the moment unless others that have done all this have further explanations or confirmations and such. I thought it worked that way too but Kim is reporting that this one is being downloaded automatically and to get it off your device you have to move it to the cloud or somewhere but you can't get it out of ITunes. RE: Where did it come from?
I don't know who Kim is and I guess this is one example where repeating statements from others without checking results in spreading wrong information. When I opened iTunes I did not see the album because I have iTunes set not to show purchases in the cloud. I had to first uncheck that in Settings before I saw the album at which point the album showed up, but I definitely had to download it first. On my phone I also am not showing my iCloud music and the album still is not showing. I manage the music on my phone via iTunes and I sync selected music so until I connect my phone to iTunes and check U2 this will not sync to my phone which means it will not take up a single Bite of space on my phone. I am really surprised how many people are upset with Apple for giving them a free album especially one from a popular band. Yes, not everybody may like U2, but what ever happened to you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If somebody gave me that CD physically as a present I would not bite off their head, but I would thankthem and if I didn't like it I would either give the CD away or throw it in the garbage later. It appears that in about a month this will disappear from people's accounts if you don't download it. RE: Where did it come from?
Hello Sieghard, My friend, I agree with you in most aspects of your reply accept one. You stated that if someone gave you a free CD, you would accept it graciously. The key word here is accept. No doubt that you would, as would I. However, that is not what Apple did, What they did is more like : You come home, one evening, open up your locked house, and find that someone broke into your house and placed a CD on your kitchen table without first asking permission to enter your house. It is not the free album that I and others object to but the way in which they delivered it. I interpreted the month's availability to mean that those who already have an iCloud account would receive it, and also anyone who signs up in the next month. If anyone subscribes after that, they won't get the album. I could be mistaken, though. Mark, but it's their house and not yours. You may have a key for your room, but there probably is something in their terms aand conditions to which you agreed when you downloaded iTunes or created your account which makes it perfectly OK for them to do this. Anyhow, I do find it interesting, I never even wasted a thought on the fact that maybe this could be annoying. They give you the album, it's there for you to download or not. If you set iTunes not to show your cloud purchases unless they are downloaded you will never even see it. OK, that's the last I have to say about it. I did download it and it's actually not a bad album. Apart from that the entire issue is about as pointless as the discussion about Apple downloading new iOS updates to your phone or the one about Apple not allowing you to downgrade to older versions of iOS. Re: Where did it come from?
Actually, it is more like, you have a mailbox that opens on to the shelf on your wall. Apple placed the album on that shelf. You can take the album from the shelf into your house, or you can leave it. If you leave it, the mail man will remove it in just over a month. No invasion whatsoever. In this case, people are looking for a reason to complain about Apple. Their justifications are extremely thin. I found it amusing to see the schtick Tim Cook pulled with that. It was fun, and while I'm not fanatical about U2, I'll give it a listen. I thought the song that was performed was pretty nice. But hey, if you don't like them, you can remove them. It doesn't count against your iCloud space, though. RE: Where did it come from?
Hello Haya, If I understand your question correctly, like me, you want to delete the U2 album from your iCloud storage. Well, the short answer is that you cannot delete it from iCloud unless you are a iTunes Match subscriber. I know this sounds hard to believe but, according to the folks at Apple, it is true. The best we non-iTunes Match subscribers can do is to hide it from our local devices. If you perform a quick Google search you will find that many, many people, like me, took great offense at Apple placing uninvited music in our accounts just so they could manipulate release statistics. The worst part is that we, as non-Match subscribers can’t get rid of it. As I read on the web, someone wrote, “I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay $28 just to delete one album.” Haya, you might try contacting iTunes directly and perhaps they’ll remove it for you. A friend of mine told me that, on October 14th, if you have not downloaded the album, it should be automatically removed from your iCloud account. When it’s all said and done, I think Apple really messed up on this; all they had to do was to simply ask for permission before pushing the album to us. Of course, if they had done that, my guess is that most people would have said no and then they couldn’t call the release the largest release in history. Just keep this in mind the next time you hear Apple boast about how much it values its customer’s right to privacy.
