IMHO, breaking accessibility for any reason is unacceptable, but developers updating the an application to improve it's appearance is perfectly acceptable and understandable. I think this is akin to Apple updating tones and text to speech voices in IOS 17. Supposedly, to go along with the redesign of SiriusXM itself, adding more channels and more “star power”, there is going to be a redesigned app. Hopefully star player will continue to work, because heaven knows what they will do with the redesign. Ron, Yes, I have the platnum account and it works fine. You simply login to your Sirius account in the StarplayrX app, and you are good to go. Are you talking about SiriusXM? If so, you can check out StarPlayrX. I'm not sure if it's still being maintained or not. I pulled it down and used it a while ago, but I ended up just getting used to the SiriusXM app. Also, note the spelling of the app, i.e. there's no 'e' in StarPalyrX. No, it receives the broadcasts that are on the SiriusXm satellite as well as additional channels that are internet-only. You can still get around the SiriusXm app. There are five buttons at the bottom of the screen in the iPhone dock positions. I didn't label the fourth and fith buttons, but the first three buttons on the bottom of the screen going from left to right are: Categories, Channels, Favorites for either channels or shows; the fourth one is On Demand. The fifth one is Downloads; and if you flick left with three fingers, you will expose the sixth button which is Settings. The first button I labeled Catigories. If you select this button, you have to flick through the catigories and double tap the one you want. The second button I labeled All Channels. If you select this button, you can flick through the headings and then flick right or left through the channels under whatever heading you want. The Third button I labeled favorites. After choosing the channel you want you can use the action button and add the channel or show to the favorites. Then use the favorites button to go through the favorit channels or shows. I've added some channels and tried it and had success. The fourth one is On Demand, where you can listen to various on-demand shows. Since I am a 60s fan, I will sometimes listen to the 60s Countdown or the TalkTalk show if I miss the live versions. I haven't played with the downloads area. In settings, you can set different preferences like if you want it to start at the beginning of a song, and other things that I can't remember off the top of my head; once you set it the way you want, you don't have to worry about it again. I will write a bit about using MySxm if you want to customize your listening to music channels at the end of this message. Here goes what you need to do with the iPhone. 1. Open Sirius Xm Radio. 2. Double tap the spot where Mail would be in the dock area or the second button from the left if using the Speed Dots screen overlay of the phone. This is the Channels button. 4. Now, you can navigate the different channel categories by heading. There will be pop, rock, Hiphop/RB, Dance/Electronic, Country, Christian, Jazz/Blues/Standards, Classical, Holiday, Kids, Family/Health, Sports, Sports play-by-play, MLB Play-by-Play, Comedy, Howard Stern, Entertainment, News/Public Radio, Politics, Religion, More, Latin, Latin Sports play-by-play. In each heading, you can flick right to find the channels in that category. If there are MLB games or Nfl games, you can get either the home or away broadcasts. As you flick, you will see the team and the score. NOTES and CAVEATS: 1. The channel numbers are not listed. You will see the song/artist currently playing by each channel. Normally, the on-air channels are listed first, with the internet-only ones at the end. Example: in the pop category, there is channel 2, channel 3, the decades channels, then there is The Love channel just before you get to the Neil Diamond internet-only channel, followed by the limited engagement channels. In the rock heading, they start with Elvis's channel 19 and proceed numerically up. At the end of the rock category are the interrnet-only rock channels like Bob Dylan's Theme-Time Radio, Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, Tom Petty's channel, Classic Rock Party and a few others I can't remember. If you start listening, there are buttons on the top for Rewind, Play/pause, Fast-forward, and GoTo Live. Sometimes, I will have to hit Play/pause if I want to navigate to another channel and can't hear Voiceover over the music. If I stop the player or put it on pause and come back later, particularly if I'm following a game, I might have to hit GoTo Live to skip the part of the broadcast from where I paused it to get to what is going on currently. Caveat 1: A couple times, when I wasn't playing an Xm show live, I couldn't get the stupid thing to activate the channel categories. After I clicked the Live button, it worked. But, that could be purely circumstantial. Caveat 2: Double-tapping the song artist/title in any of the categories when you have the channel category view switches to that station. The display continues to show all the other channels, so it is a nice way to be able to scan for songs or just to keep up with the artist/title info on your favorite channel. Near the top of the screen is a graphic that says My. Double-tapping that brings up a list of preferences for the channel you're currently listening to. Not all channels have preferences, though. On the 60's channel, and the other four channels I checked, though, you have choices: On all of the channels that have mysxm capability, the first box you get to is Depth / Popularity. This is a box you flick up or down to adjust. Higher values give more popular songs, lower values give more depth i.e. variety. On the 60's channel, the next box is Rock / Soul: The

The xm app isn't real easy to use with voice over, but, with some work, it can be done. You just really have to play with it, but, you can definitely listen to xm using it. I think the trial is good for about thirty days. I do not have SiriusXM currently. But, when I did had an online subscribtion. They do not did not stream college games online. I've verified that this information with a friend of mine who still has the online subscribtion plan as well as a lifetime radio plan. If you read on their site. It tells you that they are unable to stream college football basketball games due to contract obligations with IMG Leerfield sports which have most of the college broadcasts. Every now again a game which is broadcast on something like that College Sports Talk channel they have, MadDog radio, etc will get through the cracks. Hi Marry and Les, When I entered xm into the search field I also got 24 stations, but after a minute or so I had over 300. Probably has to do with the app lownloading the station list from xm. BlankOk, if you look in the archives, you'll find messages in more depth on this. If you want Music-only, and not any of the on-line exclusive channels, you can use Music Dock. I don't--I use the SiriusXm app from the App Store. Download it. Log-in with your username and password. You will need an on-line subscription from Xm, although they have a free 7-day trial, and sometimes they offer a longer trial period. When the app opens for the first time, it will take some time to download content i.e. the station list and probably some artwork. Once that is complete, there are six buttons on the bottom in the dock location. Only five are visible. You need to swipe to the next page to reveal the sixth button, which is Settings. On the settings screen, you can choose whether it starts playing when you open it, whether you start at the beginning of a song when you switch channels, etc. I'm going from memory here. Now, if you are on the original page, or if you went to settings, swipe right to get back to the first page, the five buttons on the bottom are to the best of my memory: Category, Channels, Favorites, On Demand, and Downloads. If you double-tap channels, it will bring up a list of all the channels. With your rotor on headings, you can see each category. Swiping right will show each channel in succession. It doesn't show the channel name, rather, it shows what it playing on each channel. I know from experience, that the Rock category starts with the Elvis channel and proceeds up from there through the whole category. The on-line channels for each respective category are generally after the over-the-air satellite stations, so for example, in the rock category, toward the end you will see Bob Dylan's Theme-Time Radio, Hall of Fame Radio, etc. If you select a channel, you will have the rewind, play/pause button, and fast-forward at the upper part of the screen. Above those buttons is where the current song title and artist is displayed. If you are buffering songs or have had it on pause, then you can hit the fast-forward button to skip to the next song. I was on the phone with xm for 8 hours trying to get my radio to be accessable and finally they said to mail it in. I got a bill for ying there rep for that long. Good luck, they finally came to my house and the upshot of the matter was I shouldn't be blind. Hi Betty, Are you talking about an actual radio as in a piece of hardware or the XM iPhone app? Buddy's message was regarding the app and while Sirius in Canada is slightly different, I assume the radios are the same and when I had the service some years ago I don't think they made an actually accessible radio although one could use the remote and punch in a channel number. I find that about half to two/thirds of apps are at least somewhat accessible. Note: I do not include games in this unscientific assessment as I expect graphical games to not be accessible. There is no actual requirement for apps to be accessible for the blind. Fortunately, VO's integration means apps developed to iOS standards will most likely be at least partially accessible. There is a radio tuner app which will allow you access to Satellite radio if you have an active account. This app is accessible, but I cannot remember which one it is. I live in NZ, so do not have access. In all honesty, the only thing you can do, besides trying to generate enough noise for hopefully convincing the company to make adjustments, is find an accessible alternative. We really need to remember that we are an insignificant market at only 0.5% of the population. Though we desire to have all apps be accessible for us, how many of us consider access for other disability populations. For instance, how many podcasts, especially those created by blind people, include full transcripts for those who are deaf? Until we all start doing so with every podcast we create so that deaf people can have equal participation, I would say we are the pot calling the kettle black. Buddy, It already is quite accessible. If you have IOS 6, you can label the bottom five buttons in the Dock Categories, Channels, Favorites, On-Demand, and Downloads. If you swipe left, then the Settings button becomes visible at the bottom. You can listen to on-demand shows, see what is playing on the different channels, etc. Yes, its not perfect, but it is a lot better than it was a couple years ago when you had to turn Voiceover off to activate an option. Donna, if you want to hear the Colts, you might want to consider All Football Radio or just the NFL one for .99. Donna and Anybody Else, You can still get around the SiriusXm app. Particular thanks to Amy of SpeedDots, which really helps in step 3. There are five buttons at the bottom of the screen in the iPhone dock positions. I didn't label the fourth and fith buttons, but the first three buttons on the bottom of the screen going from left to right are: Categories, Channels, Favorites for either channels or shows; and I believe the fourth one is On Demand. The first button I labeled Catigories. If you select this button, you have to flick through the catigories and double tap the one you want. The second button I labeled All Channels. If you select this button, you can flick through the headings and then flick right or left through the channels under whatever heading you want. The Third button I labeled favorites. After choosing the channel you want you can use the action button and add the channel or show to the favorites. Then use the favorites button to go through the favorit channels or shows. I've added some channels and tried it and had success. Here goes what you need to do with the iPhone. This works hit-and-miss, in that, it might take you a few tries to get it. First, the method, then a couple caveats. 1. Open Sirius Xm Radio. 2. Turn Voiceover off by tripple-clicking home, assuming you have that set up that way in the settings, accessibility menu for the phone. (I don't think this is necessary any longer, but I still do it out of habit.) 3. Double tap the spot where Mail would be in the dock area or the second button from the left if using the Speed Dots screen overlay of the phone. 4. Now, you can navigate the different channel categories by heading. There will be pop, rock, Hiphop/RB, Dance/Electronic, Country, Christian, Jazz/Blues/Standards, Classical, Family/Health, Sports, Sports play-by-play, MLB Play-by-Play, Comedy, Howard Stern, Entertainment, News/Public Radio, Politics, Religion, More, Latin, Latin Sports play-by-play. In each heading, you can flick right to find the channels in that category. If there are MLB games or Nfl games, you can get either the home or away broadcasts. As you flick, you will see the team and the score. NOTES and CAVEATS: 1. The channel numbers are not listed. You will see the song/artist currently playing by each channel. Normally, the on-air channels are listed first, with the internet-only ones at the end. Example: in the pop category, there is channel 2, channel 3, the decades channels, then there is The Love channel just before you get to the Neil Diamond internet-only channel, followed by the limited engagement channels. In the rock heading, they start with Elvis's channel 19 and proceed numerically up except that the New Pink Floyd channel (43) appears after the Bob Dylan Theme-time Radio internet-only channel. Note 2: I haven't been able to figure out, but I think the home broadcast appears first for the different MLB games. Caveat 1: A couple times, when I wasn't playing an Xm show live, I couldn't get the stupid thing to activate the channel categories. After I clicked the Live button, it worked. But, that could be purely circumstantial. Caveat 2: It is hard to locate the exact spot to double-tap with Voiceover off. If for that reason alone, the SpeedDots screen protector is well worth the $7 bucks. I can activate the category view using the methodology above usually on the first try now. Caveat 3: Double-tapping the song artist/title in any of the categories when you have the channel category view switches to that station. The display continues to show all the other channels, so it is a nice way to be able to scan for songs or just to keep up with the artist/title info on your favorite channel. Hi Pattie. As I've said in previous threads, you won't be able to listen to Sirius XM online without a radio receiver. This is what Sirius Canada told me. Previously, you were able to listen online without the radio receiver, but they changed their policies as of October 1. I recommend you talk to Sirius XM again because someone didn't tell you the whole deal with that. Oh, and by the way, if you're looking to have online listening with your regular subscription, that's gonna cost around $70 to $80. From the sounds of things here, the American version is not as accessible -- I am guessing the Canadian login info wouldn't work on the American app and vice-versa. One more note: I find if I wait a few seconds, using the Canadian app, it'll start playing the last station I had it on without me needing to double-tap the play button. This is upon launch of the app too, btw. One more thing, what do you mean by the tricky button? Wow that really sucks, sorry to hear it's not accessible in the states. That's ridiculous, you'd think a company as big as serious XM would have their app development streamlined so that everyone had the same thing. I'm moving my convo about it here now but, like I said in the other thread, it should be able to determine which channels you have access to via country inside the app. Honestly, if one app can be pretty much completely accessible, there should be no excuse for other versions not to be. Hi Mark, Thanks. This will help. When initially launched, the app does open in the Categories List, and that's fine. Once choosing a station, though, and then I open the app, it goes back to the last station played. That's the problem I have. If I could get the App to always start in the Categories list, I'd be set. I'll check in Settings and see if that can happen. Just search for Music Dock in the app store, without the quotations of course. You can also access xm channels on OOTunes by searching for music dock in that app as well. I was wondering if this has changed and, if not, is there another accessible app that will let you access those channels with an XM Online account? I remember there being a 3rd party app like this that was accessible a few years ago but wasn't sure if it was still available. Hi, I hve xm, and on my phone I use music dock whichis an app which helps with accessibility with xm. I believe there are some using xm for sports, etc. but I am not sure about on the iphone. I used to have an online account which was fantastic but is totally inaccessable now, though I haven't responded to the recent adds for it. I doubt it would be available on ootunes or tunein radio because of being a paid program. if that online program works wrll could you let us know?
