RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
Based on the demo I saw on YouTube, there are not default times and temps. Each menu has its own defaults. I think the easiest way to go about this would be with Aira or beMyEyes to just get the ones for what you actually make. I know she said the defaults were fine for rice, but from her description, vegetables needed to be less than the default. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Johna Gravitt Sent: Monday, March 8, 2021 12:24 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 Hi Dan, I can't seem to find a user manual online. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
There is a really great and largely accessible video demo of the coocoo cooker on Yourtube if you search for demo cooker multicooker. Gosh, she could have done just a little more and it would be totally accessible. She demos the talking menus, and you can observe that the time and temp do not talk although she doesn't comment on that. At first she doesn't wait long enough for any menus to talk, but then she does and it's quite cool. Most of the things she made could be at the default time, she thought that the vegetables were a little done to her liking and from her description, I agree. But it sounds pretty useable. Apple is having trouble with Bluetooth and some braille products too so you're darned if you do and darned if you don't on these upgrades. But I think that all in all if my Instant Pot doesn't work after the next upgrade, I'm likely to buy this coocoo thing instead rather than give these people any more of my money. Although you can press buttons and set the instant pot by hand if you know what you're doing, it won't tell you when you've come to full pressure etc. I don't like not having any info about what it's doing. My sister says she doesn't know about accessibility, but the wIfI instant pot is wonky in her view. So just some observations. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Penny Reeder Sent: Sunday, March 7, 2021 10:57 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 I asked about the app that controls the BlueTooth IP in a Facebook group for blind people who discuss cooking with small electric kitchen appliances. Hi Donna, The Bluetooth Instant pot app was perfectly accessible. The problem is that it no longer will open. As for the other one, the one with Wi-Fi, I don’t own that, so I have no way of testing it out. But the Bluetooth app is simply gone. It will not open and it is no longer in the App Store not being supported. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
It's exactly what companies want, now even large and small appliances are loaded with technology which makes products which people otherwise had for 10 or 15 years obsolete after a few years or at least many feel they then have to upgrade in order to get the latest. Of course at the same time the same companies often then talk about how much they do for the environment and recycling. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Cristóbal Muñoz Sent: Saturday, March 6, 2021 11:23 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 Yeah, it sucks. You can already imagine their answer if we reach out to complain about this development to them. well, can we recommend the newer WIFI model that has Alexa support built in? As if everyone else has the habit of replacing their pressure cooker every 5 or so years and besides, what guaranty is there that in another 4 or 5 years, what's current and cutting edge today will be yesterday's news and not worth supporting in their estimation? Once bitten, twice shy etc. That and what if you don't have or even want Alexa? Back when this Bluetooth model came out, I figured that the actual IP would outlast the app by a long shot, so I guess in that respect, it's not terribly surprising, but it's still frustrating. I am fortunate though. Yesterday, I busted out my old SE that I stopped using as my second line's phone and just use it for music streaming and other stuff like that. Turns out I've still got the IP Bluetooth app on their. I reenabled the connection with my IP and made sure that automatic iOS updates are disabled so at least for now, I'll be able to use my IP with an iOS device for the foreseeable future since I don't need that device to be current on iOS anyway, but I'm sure I'm the exception to this situation. Hi, I do not own this kitchen appliance, so I can not test my idea. And it is possible that other beta testers have thought of this-Has anyone tried using screen recognition with the app while using IOS 14.5 beta?? I'd say thanks for the update or alert to this if I was a user of the product, But if you are a public beta tester, Then I'd hope you have fed the issue back to apple regarding what is happening. But again thanks for letting us know. It could help people figure out issues when / if 14.5 is released to the world. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Sunday, 7 March 2021 6:06 am To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 Right. Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
Just adding my two cents for what it’s worth, when I spoke to Insta pot customer service, and actually ask them about accessibility issues they told me to use the Bluetooth model but then told me that they were no longer supporting it. I told them that I had purchased a smart Wi-Fi model and that app was not accessible at that time and they said they had no plans on updating it for the first seeable future, then they told me to purchase a Bluetooth one. I said to them why would I purchase the Bluetooth if it’s no longer being supported and they said because it was the only one blind people should use. I really don’t like them, or their customer service, or their business model. Just my two cents worth. My daughter will now be happy with me because she is getting my Insta pot Sent from my iPhone > On Mar 6, 2021, at 2:23 PM, Cristóbal Muñoz wrote: > > Yeah, it sucks. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
IN fact, there are a lot of YouTube videos put out talking far more extensively about beta content that I think truly go overboard, but Apple does nothing to lock those down, so a few blind people talking about accessibility issues on a list that Apple probably completely ignores isn't going to put anyone at Apple nose's out of joint. Normally, I would be saying not to disclose this information, but it is critical information that could impact the use of a product that people paid good money for, so it warrants being exposed. NDA's [was "RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5"]
So you're saying that people who actually honor a legally binding NDA they agreed to are misguided? I think you have that backwards. You may not choose to honor something you agreed to but that doesn't mean others who don't make the same decision you do are misguided. I'm also pretty sure that topics that violate the NDA with Apple are not supposed to be posted to this list, but I suppose you flaunt list guidelines and the wishes of the list owners and moderators just as you do the legally binding documents you agree to. You're probably right in that nothing will come of this, but I hope you're encouraging people to disregard the terms of their participation in the Apple beta doesn't come back to haunt this list or the future of Apple's beta programs. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Outlook -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Saturday, March 6, 2021 11:06 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 Right. Thank you Mary, I don't have this device, but I sure as heck would want to know not to update if it breaks accessibility. And, if Apple kicks someone off the beta group for something like this, then they are monumentally stupid. Hello Mary, This is a violation of Apple’s nondisclosure agreement. Though this is good info for users of this device, this is Apple Confadential Information. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
Dan, I do have one question for you. I have found out that one of the reasons it does not talk with time and temperature is due to something about the software not being able to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. My question is, if a sighted person is looking at it, do they see temperature in Celsius? Have you come up with a work around for setting time and temperature on your own or do you need sighted assistance? Thanks, Johna -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Danny Keys Sent: Thursday, March 4, 2021 5:25 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 Hi, We have the Cuckoo and I love it. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
When you use the pressure function you set it to the time in pressure, and the screen will show more time than what you set because it takes into account the time it takes to build up to pressure and the time it takes to release steam, but time in pressure will be what you set it for. For example: if you set it for 20 minutes that's how long it will be under pressure cook, but the screen may show 30 minutes because it takes into account build up and steam release so you could use regular pressure cook recipes. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Thursday, March 4, 2021 3:39 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 I looked on Amazon, and I found a review which for me, would make this thing a dealbreaker. Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
I looked on Amazon, and I found a review which for me, would make this thing a dealbreaker. You can’t use regular pressure cooker recipes with it. That’s what this guy said. The time should be the time at pressure, not the total time. All the pressure cooker recipes are based on time at pressure. So that is a showstopper, unless you want to limit yourself to whatever pre-programmed recipes are in their thing, or they might have a special recipe book which is probably not accessible. So now I’m really curious how in the heck you use this thing with real regular recipes? Sent from my iPhone > On Mar 4, 2021, at 12:15 PM, Johna Gravitt wrote: > > I understand. I had the blue tooth model and yes it was absolutely awesome. I now have the newer model and I like the device but the app that runs it is not like the previous smart cooker app. It is very difficult to operate. Most of the time I have my sighted family members to set it to avoid overcooking something. Maybe we need to reach out to the company and voice our concerns with the new app and ask that they make it more user friendly for those of us who are blind or visually impaired. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Thursday, March 4, 2021 3:12 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 CAUTION: This is an External email. I understand. So sorry to hear that. Very annoying as my Instant Pot Bluetooth cooker has been working just fine. I guess that means they’ve discarded it and we won’t see more updates. How annoying! Now I wish I had made a back up using a computer before I put the beta profile on my device. I’m sorry to mislead. The app that i used when i first got my IP included a way to contact the company. When my IP stopped working, i did just that, and they replaced the pot. Now, i don’t see any way to contact the company. Do we know for sure that there’s no accessible app for using the WIFI model? I am bummed! I depend on my InstantPot for all kinds of things, especially dry beans and risotto. Penny Sent from my iPhone > On Mar 4, 2021, at 1:35 PM, Cristobal Muñoz wrote: > > I mean... I mean... I just downloaded it from the app store. Probably back when the WIFI model came out and it was uncertain whether the Bluetooth model was going to continue to be supported etc. I just did a search in the app store and it comes up as the second or third result with like a 2 star rating. Not exactly encouraging as a simple user experience. Again though, as the smart cooker app kept going strong, I didn't bother playing with it as at that time, the app was really bad with VO from what everyone was saying. Again, I could simply be misremembering, but I could swear folks talking about how the Bluetooth model could also connect to this app somehow. This unfortunately will probably be the experience for all devices that depend on some sort of connectivity or app. The pressure cooker itself will probably last for many years to come, but how does that help us if the accessibility feature we specifically bought it for breaks because it's deemed no longer worth maintaining. Maybe someone can poke around on the IP site to get a definitive answer on this or play with their Bluetooth model, but I'm unfortunately in the middle of my work day and have already farted around enough online and don't really have time to do it myself. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Thursday, March 4, 2021 10:20 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 Do you have the newer model that works with Wi-Fi? RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
When I called instant pot for advice on their models they specifically told me they weren't supporting the blue tooth model anymore but that's the only model they suggested I use since I'm blind. I told them I had the smart wi fi one and they said that they had no plans on updating that app and the manual for instant pots actually says a person with a visual impairment shouldn’t use them. That upset me so I'm donating my instant pot to my daughter and using my new coocoo multy cooker. I realize that there are still some accessibility issues with this one but in my opinion it's much improved over the instant pot and they don't have any issues with blind people using their products. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
The difference is all the menu options and buttons talk when you press them, it walks you through step by step what buttons to push, the device itself talks, no smart apps required. The other major difference is that there's no pressure valve to worry about, it's all automatic. Sorry, just trying to be helpful. Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
Well, I have never heard of that company or that device. And I’m really not interested in making a cheat sheet. I could make a cheat sheet for this device, the only thing is the time and temperature settings don’t talk here either. So what’s the difference? I never had any problem with this IP. It was totally usable independently with the iPhone. Do you have the newer model that works with Wi-Fi? I’m just wondering how you manage to get the Wi-Fi app if you don’t have that one. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
I just opened up the "newer" IP app Remote Control for Smart WiFI and it says you can control your WiFi model via your smartphone "or" Alexa, but it doesn't mention the Bluetooth model. I just recall coming across chatter on this and other lists about this topic, but admittedly, I didn't pay much attention to it since the smart cooker app worked perfectly fine for me. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Thursday, March 4, 2021 10:00 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5 Since the Bluetooth model has no way of connecting to Wi-Fi, I failed to see how that could possibly work. RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
May I strongly suggest you look into the talking 8 in 1 multy cooker 5 QT from the company called Coocoo? This is like an instapot, but it actually talks and walks you through steps of what you need to do to use it successfully and independently. I just purchased one because I got so tired of my instapot and always needed some sort of assistance to use it. I got mine on QVC but it's available on amazon as well. There is one draw back though, the time and temp functions don't talk but the way around that is that you could have a cheat sheet of what the presets are for the functions and then you'd know how to adjust accordingly. This is also a lot better in my opinion than the instant pot because there's no pressure release valve that you need to adjust , this is all automatic and there's no need to double check that your pressure vent is open or closed. If anyone's interested in more information I'll gladly share more. Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
I just looked in the app, which opens on this phone, because it’s not on the damned beta. I don’t see anything in here that would let you write to the company or the developer. Unfortunately, I have not been able to pair this phone with my IP. Not sure why. But this is also my real phone, and I don’t want it stuck on 14.4 forever. I put the beta on my old phone, because they say if you’re going to do beta, you should do it on an older device. It was working great until the app didn’t work anymore. It won’t even open. Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5
Thanks, Penny. I will look inside the app and see what I find. Maybe I’m just not looking right on the App Store. But when I searched for “smart cooker“, I did not find that app. Maybe they just said that nobody is using it anymore, since now they have the new fancy one that’s not as accessible. Very annoying. Getting cited help to do some thing I’ve been doing ever since I bought my IP is very frustrating. Every day, it feels like they’re taking some more independence away someway or another. I didn’t know the new device worked with Alexa. But I’m not all that excited about having to have something depend on Alexa. I don’t find Alexa all that reliable. All the questions I asked that she does not know answers to, and now she’s taking two and three times just to tell me how much I have left on a timer. It’s ridiculous.
