Re: Speaker Phone with Voiceover
Hi Sieghard, I'm waiting on my reply to test this out with a friend in person. We got this to work for him a few months ago but I want to do this again to make sure we're not dreaming! :) We tried this over the phone yesterday and it did not seem to work but we did have this going before so I want to make sure Ih have all my facts straight before I write back. RE: Speaker Phone with Voiceover
OK, Cara, sounds good, but I bet you lunch next time I'm in LA that you won't get it to work. Automatic switching to speakerphone when you take the phone away from your ear does not exist if Voiceover is not running and if it worked my guess would be that your friend accidently touched the speakerphone button as he took the phone away from his ear. There might be other explanations but they would require wild speculation on my part regarding what was in your coffee that day *smile*. Sieghard, Here's a question for you though. If the switch to speakerphone is only for voice over users, then did they put in the proximity sensor for only the blind to use? I don't know of another app that uses this, with the exception of the lift to talk with siri. But iPhone 4 has the proximity sensor as well, and it doesn't have siri. Hmmm.. RE: Speaker Phone with Voiceover
Hi Tom, The proximity sensor is also important because it turns off the touch screen if you hold your phone up to your ear. This of course is also the case for somebody who doesn't run Voiceover since otherwise you would constantly press stuff on your screen with your ear and cheek. What does everybody else think, would you prefer to have to double tap on the Speakerphone button or would you prefer to keep the automatic switching as is? Re: Speaker Phone with Voiceover
How can non-VO users use this feature? If you turn voiceover off and take the phone away from your ear, it doesn't automatically switch to speaker phone. Likewise, if the speaker phone is activated and you triple click VO off and move the phone toward your ear, the ear piece does not automatically activate. Please clarify. I like that it goes to speaker as you move it away and goes to earphone as near to your face. Re: Speaker Phone with Voiceover
Hi, I have a 4S, but I just ordered an unlocked gold 5s. It's not going to ship until October, so if this continues or gets worse I'm going to have to do something about it. I'm fairly happy with IOS 7 but I really can't put up with this much longer. I would rather tap on the speaker phone button when I need it. This is something I really can't stand about the design. Even if you're phone is on speaker phone and you move your hand near the mouth piece, the phone will automatically switch back which is also frustrating. I can't believe there's still not a way to disable this. Hi Brice, Yes, I agree, at least Apple could maybe allow people to turn this automatic switching on and off in Accessibility Settings. Hopefully you will take a few minutes to write to accessibil...@apple.com and express this, I have done so once before some time back and plan to do so again and hopefully a lot of other people will join us. I also ordered an unlocked 5S on Friday, but while I had planned to get the Gold one as well I decided to go with the Black/Space Grey one again since it only showed a 7-10 day lead time and I didn't want to wait 6 or 7 weeks. Are you in Canada, the States or elsewhere in the world? Apple told me on the phone that October means it might not ship until the end of October which means I would get it at the beginning of November. Of course it could also ship the first week of October and 10 business days for my Space Grey one means it could also ship as late as October 4, but hopefully it will be sooner. I read on the Today in iOS website that 5S availability at Apple Stores around the world was miserable and some stores had none or maybe only 1 or 2 Gold 64 Gig phones. Re: Speaker Phone with Voiceover
Thanks, Sieghard. I'll write to Apple. I don't know what good it will do, but something is better than nothing. In the mean time, I wonder if I should just start triple clicking the home button when my phone rings so it won't automatically switch to speaker phone, but then I won't be able to use the two finger double tap gesture to actually answer the call if VO is turned off. I'm in North Carolina in the United States. Yep, the online orders for the gold phone slipped to October at 3:25 a.m. Eastern, 25 minutes after it went on sale. Guess who ordered his phone online exactly at 3:25 a.m.? I guess the color doesn't really matter but still, I want gold for something different. I'm hoping October changes soon and I don't have to wait several weeks. I'm also planning on checking my local store now and then to see if they have any models. IMO, Apple really messed up this launch with the gold phone. Since I purchase device only, I could always go in store and then cancel the online order with no repercussions if that option becomes available. Hi Brice, I usually have either my Jabra Bluetooth or Apple Earpods handy. I know it's warmer where you are, but here it is getting to e sweater and jacket time so quite often I have my iPhone in my belt clip and I have the earpods plugged in and the cable under my sweater with the ends hanging around my neck under the color. This is very unobtrusive and if the phone rings I just pick up the right earpiece, stick it in my ear and answer the phone with the remote. This of course avoids the problem entirely. If I do answer without headset I found it's sometimes best to do the 2-finger double tap and not bring it up to the ear right away. I often just ask the caller to hold just a second, then if I bring it up to my ear it's often better and the switching if it happens mostly happens right at the beginning. I might have even decided to stand in line to get a Gold iPhone, but the problem for me is that the nearest Apple Store for me is in Vancouver which is a 1 hour and 40 minute flight in a Dash 8 4-engine turbo prop plane or a 1,500 mile round trip by road. I might have even decided to stand in line to get a Gold iPhone, but the problem for me is that the nearest Apple Store for me is in Vancouver which is a 1 hour and 40 minute flight in a Dash 8 4-engine turbo prop plane or a 1,500 mile round trip by road. Oh well, a couple weeks of looking forward to it doesn't hurt in today's instant gratification society! Apparently the Apple Store in Sidney Australia had an 800 meter line up, ann entire half mile. Brice On 9/22/13, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hello Brice, Yes, on my 4S this happens a lot especially during the first 10
