RE: missing apps in settings
I am also totally blind, but keep in mind, it's only silent for 15 or 20 seconds, once Voiceover is on and if it's on when you shut down I never experienced Voiceover not being there when the phone rebooted. It's like turning a computer off, when you turn it back on there is no speech until Windows boots up, either. If you are worried you can always plug it in first or plug it in as I described after you turn it off as this will turn it back on and when the iPhone is plugged in there is also a short vibrate just before Voiceover comes back on. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Judy Pryor Sent: Monday, April 17, 2017 2:35 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: missing apps in settings Many thanks Sieghard your instructions are very much appreciated. RE: missing apps in settings
Hi Judy, You really shouldn't be afraid of a simply reboot by which I mean turning off the phone and turning it on again after 30 or so seconds. The turning off part is easy, you just push and hold the power button for about 3 seconds, a message pops up on the screen and Voiceover wil say "Slide to Power Off, button". If you change your mind you can just swipe right once to the "Cancel button and double tap it or, if you simply wait about 20 seconds and do nothing it cancels the power off and goes back to the home screen. Note that once the "Slide to Power Off" is displayed pressing the home or power button will do nothing, you have to double tap Cancel or wait to abort the shut-down. If you want to go ahead and turn the phone off, double tap on "Slide to power off" and Voiceover will say "iPhone shutting down" although very often you just here "iPhone" and then it doesn't announce anything further because it's already shutting down. One good way to make sure it's definitely shut down is to flick the mute switch on the side, if you turn mute on there is a brief vibration, obviously nothing happens if the phone is turned off. When you are ready to turn the phone back on after about 20 or 30 seconds (it does take at least 10 seconds to properly shut down, you can do one of two things: 1. Press the power button on the side firmly and while you don't really have to hold it down for any length of time, make sure you give it a good long press, but you can hold it down for a one one thousand count which means a second or so, then let go and just wait for Voiceover to speak, in my case it usually says "Touch Id requires your passcode when iPhone restarts" and then the keypad is on the screen. ay ". 2. You can plug the Lightning cable in, if your phone is off that will start it up again. On my 6S Plus it takes about 15 seconds when Voiceover starts speaking, but it's actually faster as visually the lockscreen with keypad is coming up already after about 10 seconds. It's sort of like with Windows, when I reboot my computer and a sighted person is watching the screen they often tell me I'm at the password screen, but Jaws takes another 5 seconds or so to start speaking. I would practice this because rebooting your iPhone from time to time is actually a good thing and can prevent issues from happening in the first place. I am pretty sure this happened after my session with Apple support. We spent a lot of time on my Macbook as most of the trouble was coming from the Mac. I did notice apps seemed to be appearing on my Mac which were apps from the iphone. I will contact Apple support tomorrow as its too late now. Thanks for your reply, will let you know what happens. Re: missing apps in settings
I have had this happen only once. This happened when I got my iPhone 6 & was installing from an iCloud backup. What I noticed is that even though the apps installed on my iPhone the ones that didn't show up in the list of apps in settings were no longer available in the U.S app store ie sluzzles & PaPa Sangre & The Nightjar to name a few. Not sure if this is your problem or not. My only 2 suggestions are 1. Try searching the app store for one of the apps that aren't showing up in settings. 2. Erase your iPhone to manufactory settings & reinstalling from an iCloud or iTunes backup. Good luck! RE: missing apps in settings
That seems rather odd. I'm guessing you already rebooted your phone? So, when you open settings, and are on the screen that starts with your iTunes, iCloud stuff, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. there are no apps listed after the Apple default apps? Did you find this while on the phone with Apple Accessibility? If not, I'd call them back. missing apps in settings
Having spent a long time on the phone with Apple accessibility because I had too much storage on my iPhone I now find that the apps I have downloaded from the App store are no longer in Settings. The apps are still usable on my phone and show up in storage. Is this something to do with the latest IOS or am I going to have to delete and reinstall the apps. With the apps not being in settings I cannot alter anything like location being on or off etc. I would very much appreciate your help.
