Epson Printer Drivers
After going on the Epson software download site I was happy to find that they have finally put on a new printer driver update for my Epson AL-C1100 (version 4)... for OS10.5 as at 20/12/07 I can only assume that other drivers are or have been updated so if anyone is waiting for an update it may be worth a look... Now if only Xerox would organize an update for my 3210 DocuPrint I wold be most happy... EYETV and ABC 2
Having recently upgraded EYETV to 2.3.2 (latest version) I have the problem that ABC 2 (the second ABC Channel) is not producing any video, only audio. If I change from another channel to ABC2 the image of the channel I was watching previously freezes on the screen but the audio is working fine for ABC2. I cannot get video at all. This never used to be the case? I am using this on a couple of Intel macs both running OS 10.4.8 both using EYETV latest version. One is using an EYETV set top box on the 24 Intel and the other is using a Twinain on the 20 Intel but both have the same problem. I have trashed the preferences and re-loaded the TV stations but this did not fix the problem. Any one else had this problem and does anyone have any ideas of a fix for this problem ? I'm missing out on a few good music shows on ABC2... Thanks in anticipation, Phil

Very sad to hear of Bud's passing. He was a neighbour of mine as well as a friend and a fellow Mac user and we spent quite a bit of time together trying to keep up and figure out the rapid growth in computer technology something that was always a source of amazement to him. A very cleaver and gifted man with a quiet demeanor. He always came to the door and said I'm so sorry to bother you but could you help me out ? Toast problem
I am having problems burning a Video TS file to a DVD-R disc using Toast 6.0.7 and now the 6.0.9 upgrade... This has never been an issue in the past and have used it on this machine for quite some time very successfully... Using iMac G4/1.25 with 1GB RAM and running 10.3.8. The problem is: I put in the Video TS file into Toast and proceed to burn and I don't even hear the disc spin up. The program says it is writing the 'lead in' for the video but no progress is made and I get an error message saying: The drive reported an error: Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03 As this information means nothing at all to me I am hoping that somewhere in the vastness of knowledge in WAMUG someone may be able to shed some light... I have tried different Video TS files and the DVD burner works using iDVD making slideshows etc so I know the drive works. Any help would be much appreciated, Phil

IXUS 430 - Date on Image using iPhoto

Sony Ericsson T630 , Bluetooth Address Book
Hi, I have recently acquired a Sony Ericsson T630 Mobile. I have used Blue Tooth and iSync to transfer contact details to the phone. The issue I have is with Company Phone Numbers (ie. those entries in the Mac's address book that are marked as 'Company') with no contact name associated with it only appear on the phone's contact list at the bottom of the list in what appears to be random order with two dots in front of the Company Name (ie ..WAMUG). I am also unable to search for a company name ie. by typing W to bring up a list of contacts starting with W would not bring up WAMUG but only peoples names? I feel I must be doing something wrong but cannot figure it out. I rang Sony Ericsson and the guy refused to believes that Sony Ericsson was in any way associated or had worked with Apple... I then advised him this was news to me and he went off and checked and said indeed they do work together but he could not give any help at all and I should contact Apple Having tried to get assistance from Apple in the past and waiting hours at a time I though I would go straight to the experts and ask the WAMUG list... MPEG2 files
I am using EyeTV400 which works very well. The thing I would like to know is: EyeTv saves recorded programs as MPEG2 files which are excellent quality but use 2gb (or more) per hours worth of recording whereas the USB version of eyeTV (not being digital) used half this disc space (eg 1gb for hour of recording) but still had very acceptable quality. My question is, once I save my recorded program as a Quicktime MPEG2 file how can I then convert into a smaller sized video/movie file so I can fit more on a DVD which I burn using Toast 6. I am using iMac 20 G4/1ghz with 1gb Ram and 10.3.3. I have the latest EyeTv400 software (1.3.5) released only today And Quicktime 6 with Quicktime MPEG2 installed. Thanks in anticipation, Phil

Mac Article Canberra Times 17/6/02...
Thought some WAMUGgers may like to see this article: (from Canberra Times, Monday June 17, 2002) Macs cheaper Here's a bit of cheer for the Apple Macintosh fans. Macs -- far from being more expensive than Windows PCs, as is popularly believed -- are cheaper to buy and run, according to an Australian survey by respected market research company Gartner. The study was conducted at Melbourne University's Arts Faculty, which has 4676 Macs and 5338 Windows PCs. It compared direct costs such as hardware and software, peripheral devices, upgrades, service, support and depreciation. It also looked at the indirect costs of supporting end users, training time and unproductive downtime. The bottom line, according to Gartner: technical support for a Windows PC costs an outfit like Melbourne Uni an average $2522 a year, for a Mac -- because the machine is easier to use and less crash-prone -- the cost is only $1953 a year. Basic hardware and software costs were actually lower for the Mac also, Gartner said. SpinDoctor to iTunes
Hi, I am using Spin Doctor 1.5.1 in OS-X to record some LP's. It does this very well. I then separate the tracks and filter as needed and save this. I can then send this to Toast and burn a CD if I want. My question is how can I get the individual tracks directly from Spin Doctor or Toast into iTunes. The only way I have done it so far is to burn a CD in Toast and then load the tracks from that CD into iTunes. I can save disk images from Toast etc but this saves the entire disk to the iTunes library and does not separate the tracks so when I look at it in iTunes it sees the disk as one entity not separate tracks for me to do with as I wish. Any ideas would be greatfully appreciated. Using a G4/867/384 -- IMPORTANT: The contents of this email transmission are confidential and may be protected by professional privilege. (please note that I started typing below a brief quote from the original message) I have been a constant Mac user since my LCII days and have purchased many Macs since... I don't regard my self as lazy or of having low intelligence. I started using Macs (and still do) because they are a machine, for the most part, I can sit down with and just start working without having to read volumes of instructions. I love this about the Mac. I also find the Mac community to be a very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable group. Even I have been able to assist people over the years. My main point is that I have asked many questions of the group over the years that are, for the experts, perhaps seen as trivial and silly things they only see them from an experts point of view rather from someone who is a Mac user and not someone who spends his life reading up on Macs and finding out exactly how and why things work (or don't). I may have been able to source information from somewhere else... If I had the knowledge of where the somewhere else is and what exactly I was looking for. This would be easy for someone who already knows. Not all of us do If a question is asked of the group and we feel it is beneath us to respond, I guess the answer is don't respond and let others who are willing to help out do so or send a quote for doing the work for them if this is your business. We are not all members of the group because there are 'experts' out there, many of my answers have come from users similar to myself. It is reassuring however to know that experts with such vast knowledge are members of the group and are will to help the Mac community out. Appleworks Database
Hello WAMUGers... I have a problem with an Appleworks database... I have a database with information in 900 records which only takes up just over 268kb. Everything is working fine other than I cannot enter any more records It just won't accept any more than 900 records which seems a bit wimpy... I can add the information but as soon as I do a sort or go to a different layout or save the file (or anything else it seems) the record I just created remains but all of the data within the record disappears? I have looked through the help file in all the areas that would seem to relate to databases and either I am missing something or there is nothing to suggest any size limit or limit to the number of records you can have. This is a problem on my Macs with 9.2.2 and previous versions of system 9 as well as OS 10.1.2 on a G4/867. I am now running Appleworks 6.2.1 but this was also a problem on previous versions as well I have privileges set to read/write for everyone and cannot think of what else it could be... Am I asking too much to expect an Appleworks database to take more than 900 records or am I overlooking something very basic here?... OS-X and Mail problems... - HELP...
Hi again, Thanks to those for there help in getting my email addresses transferred into Mail on OS-X I now have them with a bit of tweaking... I am however baffled as to why I have the problem in Mail on OS-X where when I download my mail from the server that the mail remains on the server even though I have the preference set to delete it once I have downloaded my emails... So every time I get new mail all the same old emails come flowing back again and again. I can go the iinet via the web and delete from the server via their web page but I don't want to have to keep doing it this way... I have tried everything I can think of over the past couple of days including deleting preferences and re-inputting them. Changing various settings in relation to mail and internet. Deleting my account in Mail and putting in a new one. Restarting many many times throughout this process. I also checked with iinet who checked and tested my account out fully while I was on the phone to them and all is working as it should from their end... This problem does not occur with Netscape Communicator using OS-9... But I REALLY don't want to go backwards now I am using OS-X (and enjoying it so far) PLEASE - If anyone has any suggestions of what I can try, I would be most grateful Signed, Desperate (Phil) -- IMPORTANT: The contents of this Email transmission are confidential and may be protected by professional privilege.
