Re: "Not Secure".

2019-12-14 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Tony,

1.In the Safari Preferences window, click the “Extensions” tab. Find any
unknown plugin, then click on the “Uninstall” button.
This infection can add more than one extension, it is recommended that you
remove all unknown extensions from Safari.

Known malicious extensions: MacSaver, MacVX (and variants like MacVaX),
MacCaptain, MacPriceCut, SaveOnMac, Mac Global Deals or MacDeals, MacSter,
MacXcoupon, Shop Brain (or variants like SShoP Braaiin), PalMall, MacShop,
MacSmart, News Ticker Remover, Shopper Helper Pro, Photo Zoom, Best YouTube
Downloader, ArcadeYum, Extended protection, Video download helper, FlashFree or
GoldenBoy.

2. Next, select “Preferences“, go to the “General” tab and change the “Default
Search Engine” to Google. Then, in the “General” tab, find the “Home Page” and
change it to “google.com”.

Optional) STEP 2: Remove adware with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac
If you are still experiencing issues with the pop-up ads in Safari, Firefox or
Chrome, we will need to run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. This
step needs to be performed only if your issues have not been solved by the
previous steps.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac is a powerful tool which is designed to
remove adware and browser hijackers from Apple Mac OS X.

———

You can download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac from the below link:
MALWAREBYTES ANTI-MALWARE FOR MAC DOWNLOAD LINK (This link will open a new web
page from where you can download “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac”)
One you have downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac, click on the “Scan”
button to start a system check-up.
3. When the scan has completed, click on the “Remove Selected Items” to remove
all the malware that Malwarebytes has detected.

Tony I imagine your browser is set to open at this page or your default search
engine is still set to this page.

You will be able to resolve both these by going to the settings or preferences

Re: "Not Secure".

2019-12-14 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hi Ronni

I have totally removed Malware from my Computer, but the problem still exists
at present, if I put in a search request into the “Search the Web Box”, the
‘Box goes blank and I am left with the "Not Secure-search.feelbegin.com
<http://secure-search.feelbegin.com/>”, in the top address box.
I tried to search the “maleware tips” address that you supplied but the site
"couldn’t be found at this time”. How do I remove this Not Secure problem and
what would you recommend as an alternative to Malware?

Thanks Ronni

Kindest regards

Hello Tony,
You need to get rid of this malware from your Mac!

Search.feelbegin.com (from Genieo) is a browser hijacker that hijacks your
installed web browser homepage and search engines so that it will display the
Search.feelbegin.com home page and search engine instead of your normally
configured ones. When installed Search.feelbegin.com will modify your web
browser configuration so that the homepage becomes Search.feelbegin.com.

Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server problem

2019-03-08 Thread Brian W Scott
Hi,

When I try to access the URL” fremantleports.com.au
<https://www.fremantleports.com.au/>" I get the following message with my
MacBook or MacMini but NOT my iMac..

‘Safari can’t open the page

Safari can’t open page “https://www.fremantleports.com.au” because
Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server
“fremantleports.com.au”’

I get something similar in FireFox. Google Chrome loads everything without any
bother.

Safari on neither MacBook or Mini shows the padlock/Certificate widget in the
URL for “https://www.fremantleports.com.au”.

Safari on the iMac does and has no trouble accessing
“https://www.fremantleports.com.au”.

I have 3 computers..

iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015 OS El Capitan 10.11.6

MacBook Air 13 inch, Mid 2011 Mac OS X Lion OS 10.7.5

Mac mini 2010 2.66 GHz, Mac OS X Server 10.6.8
———

I recently have had my internet access changed over to the NBN.

My iMac is accessing the internet without fault including secure sites
including “https://www.fremantleports.com.au”.

The MacBook and Mini can’t access the secure site
“https://www.fremantleports.com.au” they had no problem before the change to
NBN.
Non-secure sites load ok. they even load
“https://www3.fremantleports.com.au/VTMIS/dashb.ashx?db=fmp.public=ExpectedMovements”
without any problem.

Both the MacBook & Mini are connected by ethernet cables to the router.

I don’t suppose it has much to do with the NBN more likely something in my
MacBook and Mini needs tweaking.
The router ZXHN H268A from ZTE got a firmware update early in the set-up phase.

A search on the web finds all sorts of fixes for this problem.
Neither MacBook or Mini appear to have a Library/Cookies directory
The time and date on both the MacBook & Mini are the same as on the iMac.
All my Keychain certificates in System Roots are valid including the one
used by fremantleports.com.au which has the same settings on all computers.

I have tried reseting Safari and rebooting the MacBook & Mini.
I have tried Private Browsing in Safari and still can’t access
“https://www.fremantleports.com.au”.

I’ve tried restarting the router.

I have a wireless internet account that I use through a dongle on the MacBook I
have the same trouble trying to
access “https://www.fremantleports.com.au” there also.

What can I do to get back to accessing “https://www.fremantleports.com.au” with
Safari & FireFox?

Thanks for reading.

 that NOTHING is selected here.

If you made any changes, click the OK button and then click the Apply

Did you Reformat your Hard Drive - Partition Map Scheme: GUID Partition

Hi Rosemary,

I thought guid partition and Mac OS extended journaled were 2 different
 things, excuse my ignorance.

Yes... One is the Partition Map Scheme the other the Format.

The Partition Map Scheme for Intel Macs is GUID Partition Table
The Format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Intel Macs use GUID Partition Table while PowerPC Macs use Apple Partition
Map.

Open Disk Utility - click on the Name of the Drive in the left column (the
first icon, not the second level Volume) - then click the Partition button
you will see the 'Partition Information'.
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Down the bottom you will see Partition Map Scheme: GUID Partition Table

Re: Secure your Mac/iPhone/iPad on Public Wireless Networks

2012-04-16 Thread S Beach
Hi Ronnie et al.

This is another viewpoint rather than a criticism:

I note your comment Also another reason why I don’t use Firefox as my
Internet Browser...

It should be clarified that that *the article you referred to is in no way
suggesting that Firefox is any less secure for the user than other browsers*,
but simply that it can be used as a platform for some people who choose to
use a dodgy add-on for firefox called fire sheep. This then becomes a
security issue for those around that person who are unwittingly browsing
via an unsecured wifi connection.
Avoiding firefox as a matter of principle because it can be used this way
may be a valid choice. However on those grounds we may also choose to avoid
using cars because they can be used by bank robbers and drunk drivers.

A quick web search of browser security ratings may show any browser being
touted as the most secure on any given week... which then usually changes
in a week or two. An interesting statement was given in this article:
http://www.infoworld.com/d/security-central/test-center-guide-browser-security-250?page=0,4
(which is a little older again than the one you referenced)

*The most secure browser*

*Which of the browsers tested can claim to be the most secure? Here's the
big shocker: None of the fully patched browsers allowed silent infections
or exploitation beyond simple DoS attacks. All of the browsers stopped the
latest malicious attacks available on the Internet. Occasional zero-day
attacks could silently infect a particular browser during a particular
period of time, but all of the browsers have this same risk, and all of the
browser vendors in this review are fairly consistent in patching
significant problems in a timely manner.*

*Hence, the overall conclusion of this review is that any fully patched
browser can be used relatively safely. You can change browsers, but your
risk is the same with all of them -- nearly zero -- if your browser, OS,
and all add-ons and plug-ins are fully patched*.

(And, yes, it goes on to give an example of user activated trojans on
Windows Vista which doesn't mean Macs are immune, as we are clearly seeing
now.)

The fact that Safari is still only used by less than 5% of desktop/laptop
users (despite Mac having around 12% market share in Q4 2011) may enable it
to fly under the radar a little from both security analysts and, perhaps
hackers to some extent, but that does not necessarily mean that it is more
secure.

Anyway I love my mac but I don't like Safari much as don't, apparently,
many other mac users. I develop websites and service windows mac
computers and use the internet widely, every day.
I use Firefox mostly, Chrome quite a bit and Safari occasionally ( IE on
work computers via vmware occasionally) and have not had any security
issues with any of them.

Then again, I've still not had a security issue with firefox or chrome on
my windows pc's in 15 years either fortunately. (Let he who thinks he
stands take heed lest he falls).
Being careful and keeping software up to date are certainly key factors. In
the last few years using opendns.com has helped too.

*Anyway as I said, that is not a criticism or an argument… just an
alternative point of view.*

And Cloak does look like it could be useful :-)

Thanks Ronnie all WAMUG contributors. Keep up the good advice and helpful
dialog.

Regards

Shayne

Thanks to iPads, iPhones, and ever-lighter MacBooks, we’re doing more work
and play while on the go than ever before.
A caveat of working this way, however, is that most public Wi-Fi networks
(hotspots) are anything but secure, which means they’re prime targets for
would-be hackers, identity thieves, and general do-no-gooders.
If you’re lucky, your company provides you with a virtual private network
(VPN) for securing your Internet activities.
But if you’re like the rest of us, you need to fend for yourself if you want
to hide your login credentials, email, and other sensitive activity from
 prying eyes.
 That’s where Cloak comes in.

Put simply, Cloak is a VPN that just works. It encrypts all your Internet
traffic so other users on the same network can’t snoop over your shoulder, so
to speak. But Cloak does away with the typical VPN song and dance of digging
into System Preferences and filling in a bunch of cryptic server details and
protocols—not to mention having to shop for and set up your own VPN service
in the first place. With Cloak, you simply sign up for an account at
 GetCloak.com and install a little menu-bar utility.

Re: secure sites

2010-10-16 Thread Glenn Nicholas

Adrian,

You can implement secure payments for a business on any website using
PayPal Buy Now buttons.
1. Establish a Premier or Business account with PayPal.com.au
2. Use your account to create a Buy Now button (there are various
types of payment buttons you can use)
3. Copy and paste the button code to your website.

When someone clicks the button on your website, the actual transaction
takes place using PayPal's hosted payment service.

They don't charge a fee to setup the account, but there are fees on
each purchase (currently 2.4% + 0.30 for Australian transactions, 3.4%
plus 0.30 for international transactions).

This hosted approach to payments means you don't have to lock your own
website. That is a far more complex scenario.

Access denied to all passwords and secure notes

2010-07-13 Thread Ian Reid

Good afternoon All

Yesterday I was called away from the computer while in the midst of
making necessary changes to the User ID, account number and password
used in (rare) dealings with my stockbroker. Later, the broker's URL
was summarily closed before completing the job. Trying to restart the
process today, I now find that access is denied to every password and
secure note in Keychain.

I presume Time Machine is the answer but, before blundering into that,
could I please seek some guidance from you kind people.

You do know that Mac OS X has its own built-in password generator...

In case you don't, you can see it by going to System Preferences
Accounts and then clicking on the Change Password... button. In the
window that opens, click the key icon next to the New password
field. This little tool will generate passwords according to five
different schemes, and you can dial in the length of password you
want it to generate. This has been there since at least Tiger. Maybe
even earlier (I'm starting to lose track).

MTU settings to aid accessing secure websites

2006-10-26 Thread Tim Law
Hi,

I'm using an eMac 10.4.7 and Firefox, Safari and Explorer browsers, and
regularly have annoying time delays retrieving info from websites, in
particular secure sites.

My ISP - iinet with DLSAM - suggested reducing the Maximum Packet Size (MTU)
from automatic down to around 1000. This doesn't seem to make any
difference, nor does dropping it down to 500 or any other number I feel
like. I leave it on auto most of the time now - which I believe is 1500. I
make these changes in System Preferences, Network, Ethernet, Advanced. I've
checked the archives and setting the MTU to 1432 has been a suggestion in
the past which it is now.

The problem is that when I am in a secure site, or a members site that has
needed a log in, that I click on a link to for example go to my next page to
buy something. The browser just hangs with a spinning wheel and a message in
the bottom bar saying it is waiting for information from ... the website. If
I hit stop then retry, after a dozen or so attempts the required information
will cascade into the page as it should first time. Some sites seem more
difficult than others, but maybe it is just coincidental, as other times the
same previously difficult sites will load in a snap. Firefox appears to be
worse than Safari. www.smartsalary.com.au seems particularly problematic at
the moment.

I'm connecting to the internet via a 6 port network switch connected to a
router. Problem doesn't seem to occur, or maybe it not as bad, on another
machine using OS9, nor on a PC running WinXP SP2, which sad to say runs the
internet very nicely without any glitches. Resetting the router doesn't seem
to help.

Does anyone else have similar problems or could guess on a solution - it
gets really frustrating!

Thanks
Tim

Re: MTU settings to aid accessing secure websites

2006-10-26 Thread Rob Findlay
Have you tried just emptying the browser Caches? YASU 2 is great for doing
a clean out of all the junk browsers accumulate.
Also you could try a fixed DNS setting in your network prefs. Find out what
your ISP's primary DNS is.

Unable to establish a secure connection to the server.

2005-11-22 Thread James Green

Hoping someone can help,

Everytime I try to go to a webpage in Safari that requires a secure
connection, I get a message like the above. I tried in firefox, and
that will allow me to go to the page, but the little secure padlock is
crossed out, so the actual connection is not secure. Would this be a
problem with my network settings - I have the osx firewall running, or
something wrong on my isp's end (tpg)?

Running 10.3.9 with an adsl connection.

Hope that's enough info - any ideas?

Cheers

Well this was fixed by deleting the System.Keychain file.
It has worked but who knows what horrible repercussions this will have!!

Thanks also for your suggestion Robert.

P.S. I read a headline somewhere today that iiNet implemented a new email

Just to let the list know ...

I posted my problem on the Apple Discussion Forum and just received an
answer. This fixed the problem. So, if anyone is having this problem or
has it in the future, here is the solution kindly provided by Jeff Calebaugh

This is a frequently reported problem. Hope Apple takes notice soon.

Move the file named System.Keychain in /Library/Keychains/ folder to your
desktop;
Restart your computer. Your computer will generate a new System.Keychain.
Run Keychain First Aid (Keychain AccessWindowKeychain First Aid)
If that solves your problem, trash the keychain on your desktop.

Worked for me. Hope it works for you.

So go to Safari drop down menu and Empty Cache

 then DO a RESTART .

Be advised that Removing all cookies will require you to setup again at
 some sites

The only other thing I can think of is with Java you may need to
 clear

Also it would be good to scan for Virus etc

Does anyone have any ideas how to get this working again? Or why it
 would
have stopped yesterday given that I haven't changed anything on my

That got the scare bits running ... You are right in one way
with Safari you do not see the Bankwest Secure screen URL
and hence you do not see https
although it does show you the closed padlock .

In firefox the logon screen does show the internet address which does
start with https:

Relaxed again now

This may be somewhat more of a deeper problem than Safari. I just had a squiz
on iiNet's Network page, and there are Level 2 and 3 Faults in every capital
city bar Canberra. Not having a clue what a level 2 or 3 fault is, but I do
know that it has not only been https pages that I have had problems with in the
last 24 hours (Appletalk and club calibra are two that don't use https).

Are those that are having problems with iiNet or other ISPs?

I'm in Sydney on Bigpond Cable and have had exactly the same problem with
AppleTalk. I also can't access Apple User Group mailing lists and get some
SMTP errors from my ISP when I send mail through my own servers. Somethings
up big time.

I read somewhere today about some big problems sending to MSN Hotmail
using broadband in the US in the last 30 or so hours. Reports were that
these broadband ISP's went crazy with all these mails in their relay cues
and they have blocked both sites till it is sorted out. Perhaps there's some
connection.

Q: secure site troubles?

2004-10-12 Thread Brian Scott

Hi,
every site I try to open that needs a secure connection is giving me
big trouble

some pages sometimes load but mostly they won't and when they do load it
take several minutes making me time out at my banks site. It's only
just started

the last few days and hasn't happened before.

Where should I look to see what's causing the problem?

I'm using OS 10.3.5 and updated all software yesterday which hasn't
helped.

thanks
Brian

Secure online credit card transactions

2003-07-18 Thread Rob Phillips

Hi everyone,

looking for advice...

I am chairing a national conference to be held in Perth next year.
We are looking at allowing people to register for the conference
through a secure online credit card transaction. Are there any
organisations in Perth which offer this service? How much does it
cost?

Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob,

I can heartily reccommend WAMUG sponsor Highway 1. They do our online
payments and they are extremely professional, friendly and it just
works!

The chap to talk to (I think!) would be Gino Premici on 9488 8999

RE SECURE internet sites .. or are they ?

2002-10-03 Thread Bob Howells
Good Morning !
Is there aomeone on list who REALLY knows the facts about orders from
a SECURE site.

I wished to place an order on a particular site, filled the details and
pressed the submit
button. Immediately received a warning box that said the order was
being
placed via an email which was NOT secure.

I advised the webmaster and below is her rendition of what she was told
!

Was this a Copout by the person she asked for help...
OR, is it true.

Anybody, please

Bob

We took this up with the lady who fixed up problems we were having with
our
site because we had to change secure servers and couldnt get our order
form
to work so had to get someone in to help us.
She ended up having to do it in what they call java script and
i have no idea how to do that so she did it
and this message came up! It doesnt make sense BUT in some ways it
does, it
means that although the contect is secure on the site it isnt secure
once it
is emailed, this is the case with ALL secure sites apparently, something

which i learnt when i did more investigations into what secure sites
actually mean. Apparently it is secure when you are writing it but on
any
secure site, when you send it it is no longer secure, silly ha? This is
not
the impression that is given though by the internet companies that make
you
pay them for a secure site. So it is as secure as it can be basically,
as
secure as any internet secure site, its just that in this site the java
script makes a box come up which is very confusing and bad for
business. I
approached the internet fixit people about this and they said that it
cant
be taken off for some reason, so we are now looking into other options,
But
for now this is what we have, a very honest site!

E-mail is insecure, unless you go to some lengths to encrypt it.

Any e-commerce site worth its salt won't e-mail your credit card
details external to the company though (or preferably, even
internally!)

A 'Secure' web page means that the transaction between your computer
and their computer is encrypted to prevent the information being
intercepted in transit. It doesn't then stop the merchant from
printing out your credit card number and displaying it in their shop
window, on their web site or whatever (or as is commonly the case,
storing it on an insecure computer which is then later cracked to get
all the customer's credit card details).

Have fun,

Your computer thinks it's 2009. Try setting the time and date in the

Secure connections

2002-02-11 Thread FRANK BIUNDO
Hello all

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I am having all of a
sudden connecting to secure sites like Bank Sites.

I am getting a message that reads

Unable to establish secure connection to ...com.au.There is a
problem with the security certificate for that site.(The identity
certificate is not yet valid).
The information you view and send will be readable to others while in
transit, and it may not go to the intended party.

I am on OS 9.04 with I.Explorer 5.0 when the problem first appeared.I
upgraded to I.Explorer 5.1 but the problem is there.

Any help with this would be most appreciated.
