Kefa, Gilbert, Aldo and members,

I have just searched on the internet and gotten the information that this book
is available in English and German on sale in Uganda, Kenya and Zambia.
Unfortunately I have no specific information which bookshops in Uganda have
copies on their shelves. Perhaps by asking on the counter in aristoc or other
bookshops, we may get some answers.

The copy I laid my hands on is a very old one (with some pages missing)  that I
got from someone in Arua. I had to make a photocopy of that for myself. As
Worodria noted, evidence is systematically destroyed to cover up some of these
covert acts.

There are some criticisims you will find to Dr. Wollfs' book on the internet
(Google - Aids, origin, spread, healing). This is expected of such a sensitive
issue. To me what is striking is the references he has made to West Nile in
particular - the initial establishment of Kuluva hospital, the building of the
airfield.

Ismail,

This compelling issue you have posted has a lot of twists and cover-ups. You
will realize that while the United States in the late 1970 was the the country
with highest population with aid- especially around gay community in San
Fransisco area of California, hardly was it less than 10 years .all of a
sudden Africa became the continent with the most infected population. In Uganda
if you trace the route of HIV/AIDs, it followed the path of the Wakombozi as
the 1979 war that removed Amin.
I would think that this problem on the other side presents an opportunity for
an investigative journalism, especially for some of our journalists. I do not
know and understand the intricate underpinnings of investigative journalism but
I think such are the stories investigative journalists can at least scrape some
bottom line of the story out of which a documentary can be producedany of
the  many journalists from our area who is up to such a challenge could look
into this topic.

Dear Ismail et al.,

Thanks for bringing to the fore this important subject to the forum. I have
finally started receiving postings from the WNF (thanks for this Kiggs). I hope
I am not repeating what has already been said.

A colleague at my university last year drew my attention to this book by Wolf
Geisler and another satirical piece by the fiction write John Le Carré (titled
The Constant Gardener) in which the latter exposed Western based pharmaceutical
companies in their unethical experimentation (or is it 'acts of charity' where
new drugs are trialed on human subjects in Sub- Saharan Africa - in this book,
Kibera Slums in Nairobi). While largely fictitious, many who have read this
book
(I suggest you try reading it) have reason to believe there are striking
parallels with real life examples of drug trials in Sub- Saharan Africa and
else
where. I have tried in vain to trace the Wolf Geisler book on AIDS and
surprisingly, I could not even find it on Amazon, perhaps the largest online
bookshop in the world. I have however read the Constant Gardener and watched
the
movie as well; I say it is worth reading.

The subject of HIV- AIDS has evidently caused a lot of health, socio-economic
and emotional damage to our country and region and the idea that there may be
alternative information about causes and spread of this dreadful disease cannot
be taken lightly. I have also come across some works that link HIV-AIDS
prevalence in Africa in particular with vaccines, (the polio vaccine as an
exemplar), something I grew up hearing from my father who generally discouraged
us from getting vaccines in the ‘70s and ‘80s. My father had been a student of
a
certain Prof. JB Jelliff, a pediatrician (I think and perhaps his favourite
teacher!) in the early 1960s (at Masaka Medical Assistants Training School),
where he picked what I would describe as some cautionary tales from this
(American) professor about the dangers of medication to humans in general and
vaccines for children in particular, even more so where the constituent
elements
within the vaccine have not been studied thoroughly.

Fast forward to 2009, I came across a documentary on 'the origins of aids'
(accessible from here:
http://freedocumentaries.org/teatro.php?filmID=123lan=undefinedsize=undefined)

that I watched and duly discussed with the old man during his short visit here
in London). It was and is still puzzling to see what may have been a working
hypothesis for some professor in the 1960s perhaps underpinning some of the
unprecedented sufferings we endure today from HIV-AIDS. While I am aware that
the evidence is inconclusive, I do believe good science does not or should not
rule out alternative hypotheses if its current methods and knowledge base are
unable to solve a given problem. I hope someone like Dr William Worodria (and
others I am not aware of) will be better placed to investigate some of these
issues in the course of their doctoral research sojourn or as a postdoctoral
research agenda.

I suppose we are faced with three main issues when dealing with experiments on
human subjects and potential consequences in the future. First, our brothers
and
sisters in the medical profession need to be able to undertake research on such
issues so that the fight back or any form of advocacy against experimentation
will be based on scientific facts they themselves would have contributed to (I
am sure one or more of our sons/daughters are already doing that but critical
mass is required in this area). Secondly and closely linked with the first
issue
is a widespread awareness of bioethical issues and the need for very strict
ethical clearance before any trials are undertaken, something that is
implemented quite rigorously in developed countries. However in the face of
weak
socio-economic stature and increasingly high moral decay where we indulge more
in satisfying out stomachs and less on the general good for society, any strict
policies on bioethics may still be good on paper but not implemented in
practice. This is where the third issue comes to mind, a civil society group
that is well versed with the scientific facts and the policy framework within
which bioethical issues operate in the country such that they can act as the
vanguard of society with respect to unethical experiments on the masses. These
are things that the WNF fraternity can in the future, take up directly or
through some of the professionals on the forum who

2010-11-24 Thread burua aldo
Dear All,

I read with dismay and utter shock this article on mass experiments that have
been carried out in various locations in Uganda, particularly West Nile. The
HIV/AIDS pandemic in Sub-saharan Africa had for long been rumoured as a
preconceived idea of the Western world to hold control over our destiny. This
is evidenced by the in-human acts in the past including slave
trade, partitioning and colonization of Africa and the present day
neo-colonization through capitalism, World bank/IMF policies etc.
This article probably brings out just a tip of the maltitudes of atrocities
that our people have endured over the years, at present and generations to
come.
It is neither too late to act nor seek redress. I know many such gruesome
medical experiments in the past e.g. the Nazi doctors experiments during 2nd
world war and the Tuskegee syphilis studies in 1940's which shaped
the evolution of ethical guidelines regarding medical research on human
subjects.
I urge all of us to join hands and take this as a matter of
concern, investigate where possible and bring to book these atrocious acts of
the past and probably seek public apology or even compensation from
the perpetrators.

Thank you,

Aldo Burua

The majority of people affected by AIDS/HIV are dark-skinned people in some

On page 164, the author states: In many regions of the world, humans have been

author further states:

In Uganda, a natural experiment has occurred. The elucidation of this
distribution (Kaposi's sarcoma) presents an opportunity to discover the cause
and nature of this puzzling disease.
Uganda is particularly well suited to the study of environmental factors in
human disease.
Uganda might have been designed as a huge natural experiment.
Uganda's AIDS epidemicseems to have started a bit earlier - Uganda is
the bellwether for Africa - a case study of the future.
On the same page, the first description of the persons in Uganda in 1901 by a
British physician, Cook, was:The natives themselves are very intelligent,
clean and spendidly developed physically. Malignant diseases are however not
neraly as frequent as they are at home (Great Britain) and appear to run a
slower course.
Dr. Wolf further explains that;
- In 1936, the yellow fever research institute was founded in Entebbe, an
institution set by the British government and rockerfeller foundation.
- In 1938, a mountain road was built from Fort Portal in Bwamba region, which

Vasco,

Thank you for this response and suggesting a sense of direction. Since I posted
this on the net, I hadn't seen any response and I was wondering whether it was
a
subject members considered less important or too sensitive to talk about.

You are right, investigative journalistic approach, if well conducted to
conclusion should be able to give us more insight. Recently, I read an
investigative piece in the Sunday Vision discovery magazine about the
sophisticated military tactics the Kabalega of Bunyoro used to resist the
British for 8 years, the underground tunnels and granaries. I thought that was
a
good piece which I did not know before. Steven Candia, if you are still on the
investigative desk of New Vision, please consider looking at this.

When I Dr. Wolfs' book for the first time, it reminded me of something I used
to
year when I was a small boy growing up; there were some people referred to us
Kulia bantu. We were told not to go on the road alone or stay out too late
because of these people. I asked some elderly persons who those people (kulia
bantu) were and what were they actually going to children. Two of the
elders narrated to me, the kulia bantu would actually take children they find
lonely on the road to some distant places and remove blood samples from them.
What they did with the blood samples was not known.

This is expected of such a sensitive
issue. To me what is striking is the references he has made to West Nile in
particular - the initial establishment of Kuluva hospital, the building of the
airfield.

Thank you for this response and suggesting a sense of direction. Since I posted
this on the net, I hadn't seen any response and I was wondering whether it was

subject members considered less important or too sensitive to talk about.

In Uganda
if you trace the route of HIV/AIDs, it followed the path of the Wakombozi as
the
1979 war that removed Amin.
I would think that this problem on the other side presents an opportunity for
an
investigative journalism, especially for some of our journalists. I do not know
and understand the intricate underpinnings of investigative journalism but I
think such are the stories investigative journalists can at least scrape some
bottom line of the story out of which a documentary can be producedany of
the  many journalists from our area who is up to such a challenge could look
into this topic.

I am reading a book (the shortened version) titled AIDS: Origin, Spread and

Many members of this forum probably have read this book already. The forward
of
this book was written by Ricardo Veronesi, a professor emiritus, faculty of
medicine, University of Sao Paulo and hononary president of Brazilian Society
for infectious diseases and W.H.O consultant of bacterial diseases.

In the summary page of this book, the following are stated among others:
   1. 97% of the persons who have HIV in their bodies, were purposely
 infected
with this virus, which can lead to AIDS. They were made artificially
susceptible
for this by using controllable diseases. HIV was supplied to them in vaccines,
drugs, blood transfusions and food, by HIV containing microbes in drinking
water
and water used in swimming pools, by insects and spraying.
   2. The agents causing the AIDS diseases were mainly reasearched in
 military
service and maily tested in Uganda and Zaire. Reasearch is done under
camouflage
titles.
   3. The majority of people affected by AIDS/HIV are dark-skinned people
 in some
states in Africa, in the USA and Caribbean, as well as homosexual men and
persons using crack or heroin in some industrialised states.
On page 164, the author states: In many regions of the world, humans have
been
used as test persons and also targets for biological weapons, e.g in Colombia,
Ghana, Venezuela, .. and particularly great numbers were used in
bandundu(Zaire) and in the West Nile district of Uganda. The majority of

in the night or going to Arab stores because the Niamuniamu would catch you

Odrupele (Dufele) I found out that indeed their was a tribe called Niam Niam
during the time of EminPasha who were taken into slavery instead of the Madi,
who apparently they could not force in slavery, This is a study done by Univ.

a story / warning but most times we don't take them seriously. I think all
these things from our elders merits some reasearch.Case in point is that people
said that AIDS was brought to Uganda by the Tanzanians, who inturn   got it
from   gay US NAVYservice men who docked  at the ports there.  We shouldn't
quickly discount these Stories because some of them may have the truth tucked

Uganda is particularly well suited to the study of environmental factors in
human disease.
Uganda might have been designed as a huge natural experiment.
Uganda's AIDS epidemicseems to have started a bit earlier - Uganda is
the bellwether for Africa - a case study of the future.
On the same page, the first description of the persons in Uganda in 1901 by a
British physician, Cook, was:The natives themselves are very intelligent,
clean and spendidly developed physically. Malignant diseases are however not
neraly as frequent as they are at home (Great Britain) and appear to run a
slower course.
Dr. Wolf further explains that;
- In 1936, the yellow fever research institute was founded in Entebbe, an
institution set by the British government and rockerfeller foundation.
- In 1938, a mountain road was built from Fort Portal in Bwamba region, which
was the most isolated county in Uganda and in 1942, the rockefeller institute
was then active there.
- In 1939 - the Arua airport was constructed in West Nile without any
recognisable reason. The reason given was the beef in Arua to be specially good
tasting and was therefore to be flown to Kampala, 800 km away.
- In 1940 - the West Nile Virus was demonstrated
- In 1941 - the Bwamba fever virus
- In i944
