What 350mw card are you using? I wouldn't use anything less than XR5 or R5H
because their receive sensitivity is so much better. Plus you will use MMCX
connectors with these two cards which is going to save you a lot of
headaches over u.fl. Also definitely turn on N-stream. I had a link that
 was
bouncing around between 75-90% ccq and couldn't ever get it up higher than
that. As soon as I turned on N-stream my ccq went to 100/100%. And
modulation locks itself at 54/54 all day long.

2010-04-30 Thread Marlon K. Schafer
yeah, turn your power WAYYY down!

That'll give you a -51 signal at 4 miles. You only need a -65 to get top
speed with high availability. You'd even do well with -70.

Not sure if you can turn the cards down to 10dB or not but that's about all
you'll need for output.

I'd set the noise floor to a -75 or -80 too.

2010-04-28 Thread Justin Wilson
If the link is good I would enable nstreme. Pay attention to your over
the air rates. If they tend to ³flap² I would lock out the higher rates.
You will get a better CCQ out of the link by doing that. If it were me I
would enable WDS unless you are using the ³CPE² end as a station in router
mode. Our typical setup is WDS bridges with routers at the bottom.

I am sure there is some more but that is what is falling out of my head
at the moment.

With one radio. So if using one radio, do you add a second antenna to the
setup to give you full duplex or how are you setting it all up? I've only
seen it running with dual cards so I'm kinda interested in the single card
setup.

Re: [WISPA] MT PtP

2010-04-28 Thread Steve Barnes
I think you are talking NSTREME dual tab on the wireless table. That is for
full duplex which some love and some hate.

If you go into the individual wireless card interface there is a Nstreme tab to
enable and disable that on that one card.

From MT Nstreme pdf:

The nstreme protocol is MikroTik proprietary wireless protocol created to
improve point-to-point
and point-to-multipoint wireless links. Nstreme2 or Dual works with a pair of
wireless cards (Atheros
AR5211 and AR5212 MAC chips only) - one for transmitting data and one for
receiving.
Benefits of nstreme protocol:
* Client polling
* Very low protocol overhead per frame allowing super-high data rates
* No protocol limits on link distance
* No protocol speed degradation for long link distances
* dynamic protocol adjustment depending on traffic type and resource usage

Hope that helps

How much throughput are you getting on the 900mhz with N-stream? 10mhz and

What 350mw card are you using? I wouldn't use anything less than XR5 or R5H
because their receive sensitivity is so much better. Plus you will use MMCX
connectors with these two cards which is going to save you a lot of
headaches over u.fl. Also definitely turn on N-stream. I had a link that was
bouncing around between 75-90% ccq and couldn't ever get it up higher than
that. As soon as I turned on N-stream my ccq went to 100/100%. And
modulation locks itself at 54/54 all day long.

Re: [WISPA] MT PtP

2010-04-28 Thread Kurt Fankhauser
Yes I have used the R5H and LOVE IT. Very nice card and a good price. I
think it performs better than the XR5. However some people say that the card
burns up easily but I run them all locked at 20db power output for all the
modulation rates. I do this for two reasons. First so that the signal level
stays consistent across all the rates, and Second, if they do have an issue
with burning up, I'm running them at 1db under their rated power output so
I'm not stressing the power amplifier built into the card. Also don't ever
power them up without an antenna attached I've heard that makes them burn up
as well. I have not had any such problems at all.

I've had two burn out from the connector popping off for whatever reason. I
learned to tape them on after that. But even with that, I finally pulled
them all down. But they really do make for a great dual band card for
laptops, the R52H ones, that is. Since we run both 2.4 and 5.8 I can see
everything with them.

think it performs better than the XR5. However some people say that the
card
burns up easily but I run them all locked at 20db power output for all the
modulation rates. I do this for two reasons. First so that the signal
level
stays consistent across all the rates, and Second, if they do have an
issue
with burning up, I'm running them at 1db under their rated power output so
I'm not stressing the power amplifier built into the card. Also don't ever
power them up without an antenna attached I've heard that makes them burn
up
as well. I have not had any such problems at all.

I had a link with XR5 at each end with 2ft dishes at each end that was 18.5

What is the general or best case throughput on these radios in PTP

our primary's and if the MT's can do the job all the better!

Some people say there is 1db or 2db loss on the pigtail due to the MMCX
connector. This is not the MMCX connectors fault but it is due to the
connector being a right angle connector. I finally caught on to this when
I was testing a right angle barrel N-connector versus a straight barrel
N-connector. Anything with a right angled connector was showing a loss of
1-2db. Switched to straight-MMCX connectors and gained a couple db on all
links.

And this right angled connector loss is present on EVERYTHING from cable TV
to VHF/UHF land mobile radio's. I put a right angled F-connector adapter on
a cable TV coax once and the TV screen went from clear to fuzzy.

I won't use right angle connectors on anything anymore no matter what it is,

The right angle N connector should not be trusted unless it is an Amphenol.
Many of the imports have a ball point pen spring inside that does the right
angle.
Good ones have an actual piece of metal.

Yes I have used the R5H and LOVE IT. Very nice card and a good price. I
think it performs better than the XR5.

Ive never had a problem keeping them on, just taking them off. For example,
if having a link problem, and want to swap mPCI to see if it helps.
Thats when UFls can break, and why I prefer MMCX.

A note: the local environment has lots of noise...

All H-Pol

tower A is seen at -60, sees AP at -59 connection shows
54Mbps/4/54Mbps/4 Thruput AP to tower 6.4Mbps, tower to AP 5.9MBps
tower B is seen at -77, sees AP at -77 connection shows
36Mbps/4/36Mbps/4 Thruput AP to tower 2.8Mbps, tower to AP 2.1Mbps

Wider channels have lots of drops...

Nstream on, Polling on, CDMA enabled, short preamble

Tests run using MT's bandwidth server/client. ROS 4.6

burns up easily but I run them all locked at 20db power output for all
 the

I'm not stressing the power amplifier built into the card. Also don't

Have you used the r5h? The r52n is very disappointing.

What 350mw card are you using? I wouldn't use anything less than XR5 or

 MMCX
connectors with these two cards which is going to save you a lot of
headaches over u.fl. Also definitely turn on N-stream. I had a link
 that
 was
bouncing around between 75-90% ccq and couldn't ever get it up higher

modulation locks itself at 54/54 all day long.

I want to setup an MT point to point using two MT 411 boards, 350mw
 cards
and a 23db rootena. Distance is 7km. Is there anything I need to tweak
 or
watch out for? New to MT. I have setup a basic link and tested in the
 office.

 Thanks

For ufl use hot glue. Works wonders. Little dab around the connector
and another to attach the coax to the minipci board for leverage.

 Mmcx connector popped off???

 I
learned to tape them on after that. But even with that, I finally pulled

laptops, the R52H ones, that is. Since we run both 2.4 and 5.8 I can see
 everything with them.

Yes I have used the R5H and LOVE IT. Very nice card and a good price. I
think it performs better than the XR5. However some people say that the
 card
burns up easily but I run them all locked at 20db power output for all
 the
modulation rates. I do this for two reasons. First so that the signal
 level
stays consistent across all the rates, and Second, if they do have an
 issue
with burning up, I'm running them at 1db under their rated power output
 so
I'm not stressing the power amplifier built into the card. Also don't
 ever
power them up without an antenna attached I've heard that makes them
 burn
 up
as well. I have not had any such problems at all.
