 QUOTE from it:
 1. zope2.org
Since both zope2 and zope3 are live projects in their own right, and at
this point both have something to offer individually to the development
community and more importantly to each other, and since (probably,
hopefully) ZOPE as a brand is more important for both, why not have a
zope2.org site in addition to zope.org and zope3.org? The main zope.orgsite
could address a common vision and focus on commonalities and common
concerns, while the individual sites could focus on issues specific to them.
I have just now discovered that zope2.org as a domain name is available
and have requested it to be booked. How do I transfer it to the zope
community, if it gets booked at all?

 UNQUOTE

There was no significant response to the mail.

The domain name has since been registered and I have been keeping it booked
(not for my personal benefit -- I have not used it) since Dec. 2005. I
repeat: I am willing to transfer it to zope community, if someone tells me
 how to do it.

I just looked and for some strange reason the ZODB has grown to over
30 GB, which means it more than doubled in size since the last full
backup on August 2. Looking at the backup files from repozo it appears
the massive growth happened over the last few days, those daily
incrementals since August 2 range from 5-6 GB in size each.

I have now freed up 3 GB by deleting the remaining delta files from
the previous round of backups, but this may not be enough seeing how
fast the database is growing. Something fishy is going on.

Hi, this was caused by spamming 2 collector issues in member space, each
holding a transcript of about 1 MB and more.

I removed the issues, blocked the spamming user account and finally
changed default roles for everything collector related to 'Manager'.

- center column:
added the first paragraph from MembersFAQ to fill the space
betweem 'Zope for...' and the Zope/Plone training announcements
- right column:
added a 'Planets' section on top of the sidebar
featuring planet.zope.org and planet.plone.org
- any other planets to include there ?
changed the number of NewsItems in the 'News' section
from 7 to 5

zope.org/Wikis
- each ZWikiPage under that folder now has a message
describing its 'read-only' state and the move
to the new location at http://wiki.zope.org/...
  - the message is inserted into the
'header/portal_message' macro

We seem to have two alternatives: make planet.zope.org point directly to
planetzope.org by doing something DNSy, or alternatively setting up the
code that runs planet.zope.org on zope.org.

Michael, what kind of code is running behind planetzope.org? Where is it
hosted? What would have your preference?

It is a custom mix of unix tools, mark pilgrims feedparser module and
CMF used for the frontend and storage.

There are just 2 files changing at http://planetzope.org, the web
representation (index_html) and the RSS file (feed_rss.xml). Easiest
solution is updating an adaption of both files every hour to a location
at (planet.)zope.org -- the next zope.org will likely grow its own
planet solution...

Will add login as well. Not sure what you mean about navbars? The
navigation is up top, the black bar.

Maybe we don't have login on these pages; maybe use a different url for
'managing' the site: manager.zope.org or something which adds in an
additional skin which includes these macros. Just an idea.
I meant the bar holding the object, folder, user, workflow and global
actions, currently displayed in a horizontal bar under the header/banner
block. You can't use zope.org (plone) without the actions.

It should be fairly trivial to work these in - remember, these types of
actions are not going to be for the general user populacethus
shouldn't be a main focus for his designs INMNSHO.

Understood and ok with me. Its just that we never talked about that
solution before (i've always seen the modscape mockups as a drop-in
replacement for the current mode of zope.org operation).

I piggyback on Geoff's insightful post and say the same thing about
Zwiki. It's bad marketing for the project I'm trying to grow here,
forgetting about Zope for a moment.

I mailed Rob and Jim directly offering to help with an upgrade. They are
the only people I know who could unblock the red tape that keeps
zope.org static. No response (under their radar, I expect).

So where does this leave us ? Isn't it time to fork zope.org ? Not in
the destructive bad-feeling sense. I mean isn't it up to we the
community to get organized, get focussed and build what we really want,
prove with running code and *happy users* that it works, and then come
back to see if Zope corp. wants to point zope.org there ? I don't expect
one such attempt will be enough, there should be several. I've done it
once at zopewiki.org. I'd love to see some plone-based visions of zope.org.

May i suggest you have a look at
http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/zopeweb/trunk/project.txt ?

I'd like to invite you to join the effort - but I don't want to think
about forking zope.org and i immediately loose interest when you say plone.

Re: [ZWeb] Running zope site using ReST

2006-02-09 Thread Michael Haubenwallner

baiju m wrote:

Hi,
How to run a webstie using these ReST files ?

http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/zopeweb/trunk/

I think worldcookery.com and tiks.org are running using ReST and Zope 3.
Are we planning to use any of these?

Some thoughts on what you could do localy with the SVN checkout ::

  - just run the files through 'buildhtml.py'
   (included with your docutils distribution)
to look at the files in a browser
  - invest one hour and write a reST publisher to put some
decorations on top and bottom of the pages
ex: http://zopeweb.d2m.at/project.html
(this runs in z3, simply using the ressourceDirector directive)
  - reuse the packages the codespeak site is created from:
http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/www/trunk/

Worldcookery has the 'Page' content type which renders text, reST and
STX to html, i added a HTML pass-through renderer and could provide a
checkout of a stand-alone 'page' package.

planetzope.org is indeed a good start. Luckily Michael Haubenwallner of
planetzope is a datamunger, and is working on involving other sources of
news, such as zope related del.icio.us links.

Michael, what do you think?

To answer this (and what Tonico mentioned in his posting) i'm using
del.icio.us as a cheap way for collecting data and organizing content
from which a zope.org newsletter can be written.

[ZWeb] What's New in Zope...

2005-12-31 Thread Michael Haubenwallner
Python has a great tradition in publishing What's New in pythonX.X
documents.

Chris McDonough did that once 2 years ago
(http://plope.com/Members/chrism/whatsnew_27/) and i remember how often
i pulled that doc and read through it.

I'd like to suggest to again create such docs for zope and the most
important zope products: zope2, zope3, five and cmf.

Please join me in IRC at #zope-web to discuss the how and when.

A great new year to you all, be zoped

OK. I'm trying to get in touch with him now.

Thanks for updating the entry to the latest zope2 release.

Would you mind to change the
CVS tree (cvsweb): http://cvs.zope.org/

entry to the SVN location? CVS is not used anymore.

Thank you in advance

[ZWeb] SWRelease update version-strings

2005-11-20 Thread Michael Haubenwallner
Zope.orgs 'swpackage_view' (default view) takes all releases of a
SWPackage, reverse sorts on the release-version string and takes the
first element of the list for the 'Latest Release: ' display too.

For all of you that need to change/update the version-string of a
SWRelease without changing the objects modification date, i created the
'swrelease_updateVersionString_form' (use it instead of the default edit
action: 'swrelease_edit_form').

Hope that helps with creating better release displays
