I guess some of my writer/promotions background makes folks think that I'll
always have something to say. And then there's the line of thinking that
says, if it's already been said, if you have nothing new to contribute, keep
your mouth shut. The other week I was at James Stinson's funeral
Actually, the second Surveillance seems to be a UK Surveillance that had
their stuff mastered at NSC, the DFA Surveillance is one of those been
around, but you never heard of them till recently type of deals. UR,
Upstart, and others are very familiar with Surveillance, and all I can say
is,
It's actually called HardLife. I've forgotten the name of the guy who
is doing the vocals, but agreed it is real sweet!
His name is Ron Mitchell. Catch him live at One X on Saturday at the

Well, he's rumored to be making an appearance at the TKO event on Sunday...

Yup yup, I can tell you from a very reliable source
that HDNone is talking a load of pap. I also know a
few dj's that are gonna be there but the line ups may
change, it's still being organised, so there's no room
for speculation. Things will be clearer soon,

now! Has anybody any further info about it? Maybe Cornelius Harris?
Hopefully it is an rumour!

Not to get on anyone, but please be extremely careful about how folks' names
get used. First, while we appreciate the compliment, 2030 Grand River is
NOT the UR building. If it truly was, we wouldn't be leaving!!
As for Mike making this possible...that implies that he has some sort of

Mike did a lot of work with the group from writing, to management, to a
million other things, so yes, he toured
I remember Craig Taborn best as a member of a band called Tracy Science.
These were some of the baddest young jazz cats out there. In fact, I
remember their drummer, Gerald, uh, something or other, being ranked as one
of the top drummers in the state. I think they had tapes out, but that was
Right and wrong. It *was* a group prior to UR, but it swiftly changed to a
four man vocal house group that in many ways mirrored the Temptations (Banks
was NOT on stage doing choreographed dance steps - he was deep in UR by that
time). They toured with Martha Wash among other house notables
This Sundiata is an individual, not a group, though given his nature to be
everywhere at once, I wouldn't be surprised if folks thought he was a
group!!
The conga drummers called Sundiata? Anyone know of this because there was a
local percussive conga/ marimba group called Sundiata here in
Umar Bin Hassan of the Last Poets. Hardcore history, folks, check them out.

Michael Rappaport reminded me.
Zebrahead, if you come across it, was done here. I actually auditioned
for it but lost out due to not having any proper representation (ie, an
agent). Which wasn't so bad because by the time the film finished, my

I do think people look at the 'old days' with rose coloured specs. As I
recall it has always been the case that there were people on the scene who
were only in it for the most superficial reasons and who knew nothing about
the music, from 1988 (when I first discovered the music) right through
I think you're rightthough I'd be interested in a geneology here. I
don't remember anything like say, Get It Girl or Throw That Dick before '86

THIS IS NOT DJ MARQUIS!!!
Yes, there are two guys in Detroit named Marquis, who are in music, who have
had some involvement with hip hop, among other styles of
