Re: Sharepoint vs 4D...

2016-10-13 Thread Balinder Walia
Robert,

SharePoint is Document Management System which can be linked with MS Office
Apps. It has it's own storage and I think it using SQL. It high
configurable but still SharePoint is not a tool for writing Business
Database Applications on it's own.

Be upfront and tell them that many have tried this kind of approach before
and end up spending a lot companies money and get no where or half way
through. Also it depends on what DB does if it can be redone it SP or not.
First question is find out why they want move to SP? What do they not like
about 4D? Perhaps if you can purpose to solve that problem itself they
might consider it.

If they still want to let them try and waste money and come back to you in
few years time.

Re: Listbox cell - On Data Change - how to tell old and new values?

2016-10-13 Thread Keith Goebel
Douglas, thanks for your reply.
There is no need to trap for other events as it all works fine - as long as you
know to add code to specifically trap for On Data Change in the column object
method,
This is something we’ve never had to do before for objects you set only for On
Data Change, and still don’t for anything except selection based listboxes.
That was the reason for my headzup to others.

NULL End Point errors

2016-10-13 Thread Randy Jaynes
So I finally have an installation location where many of the clients get the
"NULL End point error dialogs” which point me to issues with the network.

The disconnect can happen anywhere from 2 minutes to 1 hour after they first
log in. After clicking OK through the dialogs and getting the application quit,
they are always able to immediately log back into the server.

This is one of our OEM clients using 4D v13.5 build, mixed machines with PCs
and a mac.

Since they first reported the problem last week, I’ve changed the client/server
timeouts to 2 minutes, and made sure all of the PCs have their NICs set to not
allow the computer to put them to sleep.

Power Options on the PCs also set to not go to sleep.

These changes have gotten 3 out 4 PCs to stabilize and no longer exhibit the
problem, but I still have 1 PC that isn’t cooperating and 1 mac.

Anti-virus on the PCs is ESET, which I turned off for the 1 that is not
cooperating, but remains on without problems for the 3 that are now working.

No Anti-virus on the mac, and I’m not aware of anything network wise that I
could tweak.

The only thing I can think of now for the mac is perhaps the client is
connecting over wi-fi? It’s turned on, but the ethernet cable is the preferred
network for everything to go out.

We’ve already checked that the mac is definitely plugged into the same switch
as the server, a 24 port D-Link DGB-1024D switch. They use 2 of these. The PCs
are mostly on the other switch. 1 of the working ones is on the same switch as
the server.

I’m out of ideas on the mac and this PC. Anyone else have some suggestions?

Thanks,
Randy

Keith C., Keith B, Chuck M, and Chip S.

Wow!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to walk me through some of the
concepts of the join table and the UI interface Mechanics.

I made it through a rough working model with your advice, now, I will go
back and do it all from scratch (a few times :) to make sure I really
got it.

I am still understanding the manual relations (as chip mentioned), and
which events to use where for totals, updating/modifying fields etc. The
drag and drop UI is a new concept for me, I had no idea...neat.

All the best.

Re: How to resize PNG images for button icons

2016-10-13 Thread Kirk Brooks
I'm going to seek to close this out by posting Miyako's method for
accomplishing my original question plus a trivial addition of my own. This
really demonstrates the power of SVG. My part is adding $2. You pass in a
picture and the method returns a 4 line version of the original for use as
a picture button. If you include $2 the picture is transformed into a
square of that size and then converted.

You can just paste this into your db now - no plugin required, only the
4D_SVG component.

  //  Pic_make_4stateIcon
  // Written by: Miyako
  // --
  // Method: Pic_make_4stateIcon (picture{;longint}) -> picture
  // $1 is a picture
  // $2 is the target size of the final icon - will be square
  // $0 is a 4 state icon image made from that picture
  // Purpose: takes the picture in $1 and generates a new picture with
  // the original image and the 3 other icon states:
  //  1)normal / 2)clicked / 3)hover / 4)disabled

C_PICTURE($1;$0)
C_LONGINT($2;$width;$height)

C_PICTURE($normal;$click;$hover;$disabled)
C_TEXT($svg;$g;$image)
C_REAL($x;$y)

  // Original image
$normal:=$1

If (Count parameters>1)

PICTURE PROPERTIES($normal;$width;$height)
$x:=$2/$width
$y:=$2/$height
TRANSFORM PICTURE($normal;Scale;$x;$y)

End if

$svg:=SVG_New
$g:=SVG_New_group ($svg)
$image:=SVG_New_embedded_image ($g;$normal)

  //Click: add more bright
SVG_SET_BRIGHTNESS ($g;1.2)
$click:=SVG_Export_to_picture ($svg)

  //Hover: add more bright to previous image
SVG_SET_BRIGHTNESS ($g;1.35)
$hover:=SVG_Export_to_picture ($svg)

  //Disabled: reduce brightness and set grayscale
SVG_SET_BRIGHTNESS ($g;0.7)
$disabled:=SVG_Export_to_picture ($svg)
TRANSFORM PICTURE($disabled;Fade to grey scale)

Re: v13 - C/S getting web server started

2016-10-13 Thread Pierre Coulombe
Aso, depending on the OS, port 0 is configured automatically for Apache server.
You have to stop that running before you can use 4D on port 80. Try port 8080.
If you really need port 80, you can stop the apache server using Terminal. I
can send you the coding.

Like the old Quikeys

Then for the most part you can define your own - even (again mostly)

I say mostly, as I have NOT figured a way to get to step into a

ctrl+l has changed, it opens "go to line…" dialog (since v13, AFAICR). It still
works when explorer is the front window.
ctrl+k opens a form _if the quotes around are selected - type ctrl+b to expand

2016-10-13 Thread Stephen J. Orth
Chip,

From the Windows command shell, type the following:

 netstat -an | more

This will show you what is being used.

Also, you don't happen to have Skype running on this box do you? The default
configuration of Skype will use Port 80, and this has to be disabled.

Re: 4D Chart for 4Dv15

2016-10-13 Thread Miguel Gonzalez
Thank you very much to all that answer to my question.

We have more than 200 graphs to be converted in about 2 weeks for
getting a new business. We are in a hurry and I don't know if that is
possible just by redoing again those graphs.

Is it easily change 4D Chart graphs using the new command in v15 GRAPH?
Has someone translated their graphs to version 15?
If that is so which approach did you use?

Many thanks again.
