[AI] Fellowship opportunity on leadership training

2019-02-02 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear list members
Kanthari International Institute of Social Change, an initiative of
Braille without Borders is inviting applications for a seven months
fellowship on leadership development course to be started in its
campus in Trivandrum in May 2019. Persons with disabilities,
particularly blind and visually impaired are highly encouraged to
apply.
Please find the details below.

Kanthari empowers social visionaries to become social change makers.
Kanthari is an international institute that recognizes leadership in
those individuals who come from the margins of society and have
overcome major adversities in their lives.
Therefore at kanthari, we focus on participants who have a passion to
create a better tomorrow and have the strength to be forces of good
rather than victims of circumstance.
During a unique 7 months training course with a tailor made
Curriculum, participants experience hands-on what it takes to turn an
idea for social change into reality.
They will be equipped with all skills required to set up impactful
projects and initiatives.
Over the past 9 years 183 participants from 41 countries graduated
which resulted in over 125 active social projects reaching thousands
of beneficiaries.
A kanthari is a plant that grows wild in every backyard of Kerala, a
small but very spicy chili with a number of medicinal values. A
kanthari is also a symbol for those who have the guts to challenge
harmful traditions and the status quo, who have fire in their belly
and a lot of innovative ideas to make a positive difference. For us a
kanthari is the symbol of a new type of leader – a leader from the
margins of society.
The medium of learning is English, so a working knowledge of the
language is essential. Basic computer skills are also required.
Are you 22 years or older and do you want to make a difference, then
read the FAQ on our website and apply via the online application form.
Do you carry a plan for social Change?
Apply now at

May his soul rest in peace. Let his family and friend have the

Re: [AI] : Gentle reminder - Request Feed-back on accessibility of online services in the Financial and Securities Market

2018-04-22 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear all concerned
I do online trading in india infoline IIFL android apps on my wife's
behalf. As per my personal experience its very much accessible.
However it might need some time to accustom with the apps which was in
my case too. But accessibility in the trading platform
www.indiainfoline.com is very poor. Interestingly the same was quite
accessible in its earlier version when I started in 2014-15.
I've not yet browse much the sites of SEBI, BSE, NSE, NSDL, etc as all
the required informations are found in www.indiainfoline.com

Thanks and regard

Uttar Pradesh's Rampur gang smuggles gold by becoming Haj pilgrims

Uttar Pradesh's Rampur gang is actively participating in a gold
smuggling racket, and bringing in gold from Saudi Arabia by posing as
Haj pilgrims, investigators have found.
"Village Tanda in UP is now known for producing gold carriers for the
syndication. These carriers are sent to Jeddah as a Haj Pilgrim and
while returning they bring back smuggled gold on the direction of
organised gang," a custom official told India Today.
On May 7, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs got a tip
from an informer that a group of 23 people arriving from Jeddah were
bringing smuggled gold with them. That night, custom officials
arrested 21 passengers for smuggling almost 6 kg gold worth Rs 1.70
crore. They had concealed 112 pieces of gold bars inside the caps of
the water bottles.
Then, on Wednesday night, the AIU of Delhi Customs arrested three more
Rampur gang members, all belonging to Tanda village, with smuggled
pieces of gold at Delhi airport.
A probe has revealed that this "Rampur Gang" is quite active in gold
smuggling racket in India. Sources told India Today that all the
accused were "Haj Pilgrims," from Tanda village in Uttar Pradesh's
Rampur district.
This was one of the rarest gold smuggling cases for Indian
investigative officers. In earlier cases AIU has arrested one or two
persons from Tanda village, but never in such big numbers.
Based on statements by the accused, investigators have found all 21
accused were recruited by one single man, who is an old hand in gold
smuggling. The accused is into supply of carriers for gold smugglers,
and charges a commission of Rs 10,000-15,000 per person, per
assignment.
"We cannot disclose the name of the mastermind behind Rampur Gang, as
the case is still under investigation. But this person was taking
orders of smuggling consignment from a few Delhi-based handlers,
especially those who are at the front end of pyramid, dealing with
jewellers and bullion traders," an official said.
Sources confirmed that after landing at Mumbai International Airport,
all the accused "Haj Pilgrims" were scheduled to board a connecting
flight to Delhi. "The entire smuggled gold was to be given to few
Delhi based gold handlers," the official said.
For further investigation and subsequent arrest of these handlers, all
21 accused have been summoned by Mumbai Customs next week. "We have
informed the custom officials in Uttar Pradesh to make a visit to
Tanda village, examine the situation and take required action," the
official said.

Re: [AI] New Railway Concession Certificate Wanted.

2018-04-09 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear all
I come across about it in news sometime in January-February. If I
recollect rightly, the major change is that the indian railway has
changed the nomenclature from viklang to Divyang in the concession
form.
But where and when it will be available in public domain is obscure.

Regards
Leikhu

I too face the same problem whenever there are two or more columns in
a page. May be once you can see by converting into searchable text in

term? We use terminologies like dristibadhit or dristihin in hindi or
other indian languages which is easily understandable from a technical

Dear list members

Though we can use Ola Cabs mobile apps there are some basic issues
they need to work on. Many important buttons doesn't have any text
alternative. Hence these buttons are only announced as tap twice to
activate. Its simply difficult to click without knowing what is it
really. Its just like clicking a lottery button.

Dear Shilpa
Very little studies have been done in this topic in general and in
particular with reference to parenting or upbringing of a blind child.
I'm thinking of writing a paper on this topic, but not purely from an
academic perspective but from the perspective of a disability activist
and personal experience of myself being a blind and counseling parents
of blind children.

Re: [AI] as bajaj fincer rejected my consumer loan

2017-06-07 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
If they have an official policy of not giving loan to physically
disabled, why they can't share it in public domain? Basically they
don't have any such policy in their rule book. They don't have the
courage to do so. Its their non official policy of relegating the
physically disabled to third class citizens.
Its high time that we should collectively hit at their backbone and
change the things forever.
My suggestion is that we all physically disabled, whoever is in need
of any finance, should approach Bajaj Finserve for the same. Myself is
thinking of purchasing a laptop. Am definitely going to find out their
operation in my city.
One can easily break a stick. But when many sticks are bind together
instead of the sticks being broken the one who tries to break will be
broken.

They denied financing me the washing machine and refrigerator. They
told me that they cannot finance disable person. Same thing I did, I
asked written policy from the person. He told me that he can’t give me
the same as it was not available with him at the moment. I requested
him to get in email from his head office and show me the policy. He
told me that he will not finance me.
I called 100 numbers after some time police came in the shop. I
explained everything to the police. The police was convince with my
arguments and told him to finance me.
I think this is not a local issue. Something must be done to teach the
 lesson to this company

2017-06-07 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear all
Of course this issue could be a local one. But I'm sure, there are
countless such unreported local ones faced by our blind and visually
impaired fellow friends. Everyone doesn't have the patience or
attitude to raise this issues.
Its time to do something to take these issues to a logical end.

Re: [AI] as bajaj fincer rejected my consumer loan

2017-06-05 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Is it mendatory to declare someone's physical disability while
applying for a loan? If so, there should be specific guideline from
RBI regarding the same because NBFCs and banks formulate their rules
as per RBI regulations.
And again, if Bajaj Finserve has a policy of not entertaining loan
facilities to the physically disabled people they must have the same
in their rule book. Please ask for an authentic hard copy.

Re: [AI] Guwahati: Manash Pratim Dutta reports in the Telegraph: TET plee to the CM

2017-03-31 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear all
TET exam was first conducted in Assam for lower and upper primary
standard sometime in 2011 where blind and visually impaired candidates
are allowed to take the same. However, later on when it was conducted
for high school and secondary standard they were not allowed to take.
The reason is best known to the authority alone. So far I believe
nobody took up the issue at any appropriate level that time.

Re: [AI] PNB denying home loan on the bases of disability

2017-03-21 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear Bhavesh
There is no official rule restraining any disabled person from
availing any financial service. But there is attitudinal rule
restraining us from availing all sorts of services and facilities.
Once I approach Union Bank of India to open a current account. The
customer relationship manager told me that under RBI rule a blind
person cannot open a bank account. I challenged and literary shouted
at her and asked her how she got through IBPS exam. The branch manager
intervened, but was not apologetic rather defending his subordinate.
Luckily I succeded in opening an account with Indian Bank.
Though I don't have any suggestion for immediate remedial measure
please write to PMO or twit to PM's personal tweeter account.

Re: [AI] Blind are useful - But Hardly Human Beings(Read till the end please)

2017-03-21 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Its nothing new that we are invited in the events and gatherings
either to sing or to sit in a corner as mere audience. I stop
attending at least disability related events where the ownership of
the occasion doesn't belong to us. Of course I, being a visually
impaired, don't mind to be an audience in a literary, religious,
academic or any sort of gathering where disability is not a theme.

[AI] Are you a Divyang?

2017-03-20 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear list members
Simply let me ask you, "Are you a DIVYANG?" If so, could anyone
explain the scientific or philosophical justification for branding us
with this terminology?
But as far as my impression goes, no disabled person is happy with
this vocabulary. Then why ministers, bureaucrats and other dignitories
love to adress us in the public domain the way we dislike? It reflects
condescending attitude of the so-called non-disabled people and their
complex believe that we don't have the right to oppose them even in
the matters directly impact us.
Love to hear your opinion.

Re: [AI] Meghalaya State Assembly: 'Opposition takes up Job quota for differently-abled'

2017-03-20 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear all
I started taking special interest about Meghalaya after personally
encountering the pathetic situation of many disabled people there.
Last July I personally approached Mr. John Leslee K Sangma, the MLA
who put the motion in the assembly for discussion requesting him to
use his authority and privilege to do justice to the disabled people
of his state. I also provided him with most of the relevant documents
which I collected through a series of RTI applications.
however the truth is that most of the politicians and higher officials
are either not approachable or indifferent to the disabled people. The
reason may be that we don't form a vote bank or we don't have any
social status so that we deserved to be listened. But I was lucky as
my wife's family have a good relation with the concerned legislator.
So we need to be highly informed and articulate. Lets use our full potential.

Warm regards

Verification by calling the blind customer from the bank sounds
practical solution. But there must be an established rule for this
which must be applicable to all the banks. May be we need to pursue
this matter with RBI, CCPD, PMO, FM, etc.

2017-03-16 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Chief minister blaming recruiting agencies for not filling up the
reserved quota for the PH very rediculous. Doesn't he has the
authority to give strict direction to the departments and agencies to
follow the law of this land? Govt of Meghalaya issued Office
Memorandum  No. PER(AR)150/88/452, dt 30/10/2006 asking all the
agencies and departments to follow to the three percent reservation
policy under PWD Act, 1995. Since then many representations have been
submitted by various PWD groups to the Govt which were never pursued
seriously. Ministers and officers don't want even to listen to the
disabled people whenever they go to meet them. What the Govt is doing
for the last ten years?

Please twitt the write-up to PMO and PM's twitter. Its really
frustrating to fight for something despite having sufficient
nondiscriminatory official provisions. I fail to get an ATM from
Central Bank though I have from SBI. Now I simply hesitant to approach
Central Bank because I know it means entering into a fruitless
altercation. And I'm not interested for a costly and slow legal
recourse.

Dear all
Of course every blind or visually impaired are not literate or tech
sabby. This is the case with the non-disabled people too. Moreover
cashless is not going to happen overnight. But there are many among us
who are familiar with cashless system and can use without any
difficulty. So the debate should be how to make the system accessible
and how to remove the administrative bottleneck and proper
implementation of the programmes and policies. Just take the instances
of denial of ATM card and cheque facilities by various bank branches.
