The license goes on the AP, so yes - it's not tied to any specific ubnt radio.
If the AP dies, you have to get Cambium to transfer the license as part of the

Re: [AFMUG] Vibratory Plow

Sometimes the missile will hammer through were a HDD will just grind away.
Rocks are bad no matter where you find them. That is why Vermeer has a monster
rock saw for trenching through it.

From: Gerard Dupont III

Subject: Re: [AFMUG] Vibratory Plow

Basketball sized limestone rocks either deflect the bit, same as a pneumatic
mole/missile, or the bit will crack the rock and still possibly deflect. It's
not that uncommon to bore half way through and have to pull out and move over
12" bc of a rock. It's easier/quicker to move than it is to try to go through a
stubborn rock.

We had one yesterday where we hit a limestone shelf and the bit got bound up
and the torque from the machine snapped a drill rod in half. I don't know what
a shale shelf will do. We haven't run into that yet.

They never seem to have that in the demonstration videos. Google fails to

We did extensive testing…

Our LM42 we bought was great with direct burial, but not good with a chute
for ¾” pipe.

It was reliable, but in harder ground it was an issue – no setting for the
angle when going shallow.

We even custom built a chute… great concept, but not practical for our
ground conditions

Single tires with good rubber is OK, duals are better for harder ground.

We went with a zahn (mini skidsteer) that is tracked and articulated.

The angle of the plow can be fully adjusted to the conditions

With a serrated blade, we can easily go through roots… even a couple inches
of frozen ground

We use a “Bullet” style to pull the conduit with a carrot or kellum grip
(Chinese finger trap)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9JhOQYxbwM

video is for a silt fence, but it gives the idea of why this works very well

A team of 2 guys can easily do 5-8 houses in a short day (conduit).

Tracks, and articulation…. Is the secret. So is slow and constant speed

Rushing the install….. results in stretched/broken conduit.

We also bought the “mighty mole” attachment for compaction boring under
cement driveways.

This wasn’t cheap, but it is very effective / clean / fast

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fGpRuNXjnM

make sure to sleeve under driveways with good conduit before pushing
through fiber or a smaller conduit where needed

For some of the bigger acreages, we pull in with the RTX1250 and use a
bullet with 3/4 conduit or chute with 1.5”

The ground disturbance is more, but doing this… it impresses the farmers
when we are “rolling black coal”

We also protyped a conduit pressurized with water and a jet where we attach
a carrot. The water helps for sure, but at some point… the added work for the
water/equipment was just a little bit too much to be practical. Another one we
looked at was sending a stream of water down the plow itself, but then we need
the water source moving… and it used a lot of water to be effective. Think of
how a big tree mover sends the big knifes into the ground easier with
water…that was the model we compared it to. Very functional… just impractical
in practice.

using this for customer drops as well as some main-runs.

I like the mini excavator attachment for the LM42, although I don't know
how limiting this will be for the machine if I'm also using it for customer

A team of 2 guys can easily do 5-8 houses in a short day (conduit).

Tracks, and articulation…. Is the secret. So is slow and

Rushing the install….. results in stretched/broken conduit.

We also bought the “mighty mole” attachment for compaction boring

make sure to sleeve under driveways with good conduit before

For some of the bigger acreages, we pull in with the RTX1250 and
use a bullet with 3/4 conduit or chute with 1.5”

The ground disturbance is more, but doing this… it impresses the
farmers when we are “rolling black coal”

We also protyped a conduit pressurized with water and a jet where
we attach a carrot. The water helps for sure, but at some point…
the added work for the water/equipment was just a little bit too
much to be practical. Another one we looked at was sending a
stream of water down the plow itself, but then we need the water
source moving… and it used a lot of water to be effective. Think
of how a big tree mover sends the big knifes into the ground
easier with water…that was the model we compared it to. Very
functional… just impractical in practice.

Any SM with firmware newer than 13.1 (or thereabouts) has a file at
http:///canopy_config.cgi?mac_esn= which
is the full configuration in XML.

You could collect the default configuration from a new SM in one XML,
and just do a diff with one collected from an active SM.

Re: [AFMUG] Escalator % on tower leases

2017-03-23 Thread Lewis Bergman
The best you are likely to get is a single escalation after term like 7 to
10 percent after a five year term.

It works a lot better for you than annual escalation. I usually won't do
those but maybe you can swing it.

I would argue it doesn't matter if your income increases or not. If the
towner owner's expenses increase or they just want to keep pace with
inflation them that is their model. I would argue that towers are alot like
annuities. The people that own them look for a consistent income that
slightly outpaces inflation.

If you can't figure out how to do the same in the WISP business maybe that
is an issue to address.

The currently shipping recommendation if you want to use all packetflux
gear:

PowerInjector Plus Sync, in combination with a Syncbox Junior Aux Port
(seems like you've already figured it out).

This also applies to the cards for the almost shipping rackinjector.

In a couple months there will also be the option of a card for the
rackinjector which does the new style sync for the 450m. Once this ships,
we will likely look at how to do this in a form factor which is better
suited for the smaller enclosures.

Also, does anyone know what model of Case Maxi Sneaker this is?

Re: [AFMUG] Vibratory Plow

2017-03-23 Thread Gerard Dupont III
Basketball sized limestone rocks either deflect the bit, same as a
pneumatic mole/missile, or the bit will crack the rock and still possibly
deflect. It's not that uncommon to bore half way through and have to pull
out and move over 12" bc of a rock. It's easier/quicker to move than it is
to try to go through a stubborn rock.

We had one yesterday where we hit a limestone shelf and the bit got bound
up and the torque from the machine snapped a drill rod in half. I don't
know what a shale shelf will do. We haven't run into that yet.

[AFMUG] Mimosa With MikroTik hEX PoE?

2017-03-23 Thread Christopher Gray
Is anyone using an A5 and/or B5-Lite with the MikroTik RB960PGS hEX PoE?

I'm debating whether to mix a WS-6-Mini with a RB750Gr3 to do a small

Thank you - Chris

The PowerInjector+Sync, the regular GigE 4 & 8 port injector as well as
the single port GigE injector will all do 2A using 4-pair powering. 2
pairs +, 2 pairs -, 1A per pair = 2A forward, 2A return.

The 450m uses "Cambium Sync" and I still don't know what the hell
that is. AFAIK, that's only the CMM5 so far. Last Mile Gear might
support it, I don't remember.

That said, I know Sean has said that his 450m's are powered and
receiving traditional Canopy Sync from a PacketFlux
PowerInjector+Sync. Problem with that is, you're interrupting
power (the sync pulse) while trying to run a 70W load (the 450m).
Forrest said he's working on new stuff to support Cambium Sync.

Probably the best option right now is a SyncBox Junior Aux. Or a
UGPS. Enable UGPS power on the Aux port in the radio, plug it in
and go. Power the radio with whatever. GigE-POE-APC and a 56VDC/2A
supply. A PowerInjector+Sync. Or Forrest's 4-port or 8-port GigE
injector boards. Or hell, even his single-port GigE injector.
Anything that support 4-pair powering + GigE and you should be fine.

Looks like the POWERINJECTOR PLUS SYNC - GIGABIT VERSION does 2 amps.

So that and a large Meanwell PSU would be one way to power 4 450M.

[AFMUG] Escalator % on tower leases

2017-03-23 Thread Paul McCall

I know the tower companies like to sneak a pretty healthy escalator in there,
based on a fixed percentage... 3%,4% etc.

Has anybody been successful getting them to change that, either lower to like
2% or go off something more friendly like the Consumer Price Index, etc. ?

You don't think it's much, but 10 years later (we've had some towers now for 15
years) it can almost double the tower rent.

Curious to see what others have been able to negotiate.

Yea, the jackasses at APS are now saying 10am. I was on the phone with them at

Writing from the perspective of a 10Gbps MMW wireless vendor - this is a very
interesting topic.
(our 10Gbps links fully available and shipping: including in 2+0 configuration
which gives 20Gbps on the same antenna using H+V polarisations. Some customers
are planning on stacking these again to give 40Gbps FDX capacity between sites).

Ideally, there would be some integration with the switch fabric for bonding.
Simplest scenario is if one link goes up/down in one or both directions; but
more subtle is if/when ACM activates, two paths may operate at different speed
(rain fade on H,V is not identical).
Some fairly intelligent IP fabric is required to do "Radio Link Aggregation"
with variable rate wireless links.
I suspect that mobile operators/vendors will solve this first; solutions for
corporates/ISPs will come along behind.

Best regards
Stephen

What happens when the topsoil contains rocks the size of basketballs?

What happens if it hits a shelf of shale?

We did extensive testing…

Our LM42 we bought was great with direct burial, but not good with a
chute for ¾” pipe.

It was reliable, but in harder ground it was an issue – no setting for
the angle when going shallow.

We even custom built a chute… great concept, but not practical for our
ground conditions

Single tires with good rubber is OK, duals are better for harder
ground.

We went with a zahn (mini skidsteer) that is tracked and articulated.

The angle of the plow can be fully adjusted to the conditions

With a serrated blade, we can easily go through roots… even a couple
inches of frozen ground

We use a “Bullet” style to pull the conduit with a carrot or kellum
grip (Chinese finger trap)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9JhOQYxbwM

video is for a silt fence, but it gives the idea of why this works very
well

A team of 2 guys can easily do 5-8 houses in a short day (conduit).

Tracks, and articulation…. Is the secret. So is slow and constant
speed

Rushing the install….. results in stretched/broken conduit.

We also bought the “mighty mole” attachment for compaction boring under
cement driveways.

This wasn’t cheap, but it is very effective / clean / fast

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fGpRuNXjnM

make sure to sleeve under driveways with good conduit before pushing
through fiber or a smaller conduit where needed

For some of the bigger acreages, we pull in with the RTX1250 and use a
bullet with 3/4 conduit or chute with 1.5”

The ground disturbance is more, but doing this… it impresses the
farmers when we are “rolling black coal”

We also protyped a conduit pressurized with water and a jet where we
attach a carrot. The water helps for sure, but at some point… the
added work for the water/equipment was just a little bit too much to be
practical. Another one we looked at was sending a stream of water down
the plow itself, but then we need the water source moving… and it used
a lot of water to be effective. Think of how a big tree mover sends
the big knifes into the ground easier with water…that was the model we
compared it to. Very functional… just impractical in practice.

twisted pairs in the phone network and placing the two wires flat next
