I've got amanda running here to Sunos 4.1.3/4 clients using dump as the
file grabber.
If you wish I can have have a go at getting the latest version compiled
on my systems. My current version of gnutar is 1.12, I can't remember if
this works with amanda or not??

Hi all,
I suspect some odd behavior on my DDS2 tapes.
can anyone give me advice about:
- how to periodically verify if my backups are good for restoring? I
understood that amverify only do consistency check on a tape but
amverify report can't be a good indicator to conclude that my backups

Amandad is not a continually running daemon. It only starts up when you run
one of the am programs. Do a netstat to see if amanda is listed in the
registered services.

You're using dump instead of tar for your backups. The exclude option
that is passed to the backup program will only work with tar.

Hello list, i'm a lil confused abt the dump and tape
cycles to put in amanda.conf. This is my situation. I
am dumping everyday, 7 days a week. The tapes are
labelled for week 1 as monday1, tuesday2, wednesday3
and for the second week would be monday2, tuesday2 and
so on. Would it be right to put

Can anyone sched some light on this matter. I've already looked into the
mailing list and found I should rewind the tape before launching amrecover,
somehow it seems this doesn't resolve this issue.

I'm in the process of converting about 400 CDs to .oggs. The destination
directory is currently approaching 9GB in size, and I'm using Amanda to
backup to DDS-3 (12GB) tapes. Given that oggs and MP3s are essentially
uncompressible, I'm getting pretty close to the limits of what I can fit
onto

It dwaned on me that this might be useful, in diagnosing my problem:

I don't think anyone knows. I tried everything also, and continued to have

Immediately after I first installed Amanda, I tested recovering.
I restored some files, and did a cmp -l between them and their counterparts
on the disk.
It's a good thing I did too, because there were random byte differences that
did NOT affect the checksums or byte counts (ls -l) of these
