Hi Pete,
Here are a couple options:
1. If your DB supports Case, you can do a set fields using SQL.
2. You can store the values in a separate form, then set the values from
that.
We use the second option, as it seems a lot easier to maintain. We've
got a form which stores the month in 4
Isn't that what your If action is for? You could have multiple AL's or
Filters for every case that you want to consider, each AL or Filter for an
individual case. Your execution order of these AL's or Filters would define
the order in which the evaluations of each of these cases should occur.

I did use what Dave described once in the past in fact and it works pretty

Just a suggestion, for security purposes just so that the value is not
stored, create the guid in a display only field and use that field to notify

It sure would be nice to have a Random function in Remedy, such as in a
set fields action, set field1 = RANDOM([A-Z],[0-9]) would set field1 to
some random character A-Z or 0 - 9. This would be great because then you
could specify [0-3] or whatever, then randomly pull an A-Z if the field1
was 0,
Peter,
Another variation on that is to use a filter on Get Entry and a
Display only field. That way the Set field action simply returns the
'Display Only' field and the filters in effect do the Case operation
to map a value of 1 to January from the record that is being
returned.
Or...

Pete,
As Matt mentions, if you are trying to convert a number to a specific
string, you can have all kinds of fun just using a single set fields. For
example, if $IntegerField$ is a number from 1-12, you can convert it to a
month with the following set fields into a string:

If you are trying to do something like:
