I have my dialplan set to receive faxes if it detects the fax tone. I use
the ReceiveFax() dialplan application which then emails me a PDF file. I
use it only very very occasionally but it seems to work. Sending fax is
possible but somehow you have to get the document into TIFF format which is

I sometimes use that in conjunction with a Cisco SPA112 ATA for sending.

Receiving faxes with Asterisk is relatively simple: you can convert the
incoming tiff document with "tiff2pdf" to an PDF document and

Nice example David !
Though, rather then removing/renaming res_fax_spandsp.so, using "noload =>
res_fax_spandsp.so" in /etc/asterisk/modules.conf would be the proper method.
(You can use "show-union" to see the

Yes. You should have absolutely no jitter issues and it should be
brilliant (assuming you never peg your internal LAN with massive
transfers that saturate your network).

What David said.
I have an HP Officejet All-in-one 6210 that I use with a Linksys PAP2T
ATA. Sometimes it works great... sometimes it gets into a funky state
where the pages aren't going through, but the fax hasn't hung up or
aborted the transmission, even after several minutes. It may be a
of alternative
approaches.
Again, thanks everyone

If your VoIP provider is setup for T.38 then you may have an issue.
For in-bound faxes you are in control: If you don't allow T.38 then it
will stay with whatever codec you have negotiated. Which should be

setup. The rec
Hi Tom
Looks like the berofix supports the T.38 fax protocol, it would be worth
investigating ATA T.38 support, I'm no expert but maybe worth investigating
more(I know g729 doesn't like to play, and even with the higher bit rate
codecs, you can have mixed results :-( )
