In some strongly-typed languages, the l at the end indicates that the value is a long.I dont know what the difference between 0x00 and 0x40 would be, in this context.

Re: Q9 Has a New Home

@Nocturnus, thanks for your expressions of concern. My father recently died of a massive heart attack, likely caused by the Sticklers Syndrome he passed onto me, so any heart problem is of major concern. My cardiologist doesnt think its the Sticklers in my case, as an echocardiogram showed a perfectly normal heart for my age. For whatever reason, I easily dehydrate, and if I drink too much by accident to overcompensate, the same heart palpitations will occur. As long as I dont become too overstressed or dehydrated though, Im told its not significantly life-threatening, but it has gotten to that point in the past, and loads of stress and hot summers make it much more difficult to make sure I hit that narrow sweet spot where things remain quiet that Ive only recently found. Theres nothing more terrifying than to feel your heart racing along at a rate youd normally expect when running ... while youre in bed trying to s
leep. The palpitations are just as terrifying though of less concern, but when your heart is beating along normally, then you suddenly feel it pause for a second longer than it should, then suddenly gives this massive thud, before returning to its normal, steady pace, only for it to happen again in a few seconds or minutes ... quite unnerving. And sadly this is only the latest in a line of increasingly worsening health crises Ive had to deal with since high school. I actually dropped out of college 4 times because of my own battle with ear infections, migraines, severe asthma, that kind of thing, and I cringe when I consider what the next health crisis might be.I know how troublesome those ear infections can be and have some mild hearing loss and moderate tinitis myself, so good luck with the battle.

Hello,It is interesting to say the least. Android has come a long way in terms of accessibility. Back when this topic was brought up, Jellybean was introducing advanced explore by touch support for users. TalkBack still struggled then and didnt allow users to select, copy, and paste text. Then, Google introduced the context menus, which improved things drastically. Now, in the latest version of TalkBack, many more gestures can be customized to the users liking. Sure there are things that VoiceOver still does a little bit better, but Im not complaining. I use a Droid Turbo daily to do the things I used to do on an iPhone and I enjoy the extra benefits of having a more flexible and powerful device.

Re: Adventure To Fate : Future Apocalypse (upcoming iOS game)

@Touchmint, very awesome! nothing encourages me to play a game more than having great atmosphere an descriptions, indeed I can think of several occasions Ive played games where the battle system etc is rather lacking just on strength of their atmosphere and text, so to get both is great.@Cody, no, you wont need to play battle arena, however it is a pretty awesome rpg in its own right with lots of strategical fights, different class combinations and replay options. Youd be missing out on not trying it, particularly because there is no knowing when future appocalypse will be ready, (you cant rush these things). Another thing to bare in mind is even when Future appocalypse is finished, its not just a remake of battle arena, but will have a completely different setting and its own gameplay style, for example as Touchmint says above, Future appocalypse wont be having race/class combinations, just ifferent classes, and
of course it wont have the dungeon type setting, after all its not just an expantion and remake of battle arena, its going to be very much its own game. So, Id still recommend giving battle arena a try.

Yep, lack of native mac games is certainly a factor and is another reason I want to keep a windows machine, sinse its not really system for games, browser stuff not withstanding. Interestingly enough, I know there are those who cry Give us cross platform or give us death! but even as far as graphical games go, Ios is still far more popular than mac for developers for some reason so I doubt this will be changing too much in the future, although if it does Ill still of course have a mac myself, interestingly enough though, Entombed ii will have a mac version as well as a windows one.I have unfortunately realized that sinse Ill be leaving for a week and a half at aims music school a week next Wednesday, getting a mac now might not be such a good idea, sinse while I could likely get one delivered this week, Ill then be buggering off for an extended period not long after, and coming back utterly and completely shattered, so I dont want t
o start to get used to using the thing, then leave, come back feeling very dead (a week of solid singing will do that to you), and have to pickup again at that point, Id be better off just having a clear fortnight or so to tinker with the mac I think. So, itll probably be waiting until the end of August.

@san since the intraduction of the new speed system, thrustors are completely useless so dont worry about them. Also, ive largely fixt up at least the main bits of autopilot not slowing for destination, if it spins around in a circle, reduce your engine speed to 1. Ill have a go at trying to fix more of this once I get up but you should be good to go for now. For thoughs of you wundering why this new system was put into place, because ive received multiple complaints about how the old system was sluggish unresponcive, and how the acceleration even at fast settings didnt work since you were going so high, this is why thrustor power got intraduced. This new system is designed to not only make you go faster, but to ease up on acceleration while providing a more easyly operated system. Just give me time to sort out the bugs with it, and youll have much smoother starship control by the time im done. Also, for thoughs who tried the s
peed system this morning, try it now, I made several coordinates changes which revampt the speed system, so now a flight from 0 0 0 to 4100 4100 4100 at transwarp takes only 3 minutes like its ment too. Enjoy!

My oppinions are not without base though, you have my word on that. Had I not seen many JAWS users at work with their PCs, myself included, I would not be making such statements. I can say that, because there were tons of browser based games that I played back before I switched to NVDA that I had built configuration files for with JAWS, and one of the things that turned me off most with NVDA was that many of the options available in what is now the JAWS settings center or whatever that thing is called now and which previously existed as the configuratio

We are, habitual creatures at best, really friggin lazy at worst, and I think the best example that I can use to prove that point is both windows and Linux communities. Features were added in that would benefit everyone, not just a select few. The voice of the community as a whole seemed to matter, not just the word of those who had been tight with the screen reader for years on end. Re: What do people believe when it comes to religion and or spirituality?

Hi Bladestorm,As for the Mahdi, I believe he is true and will come. Jesus will not be a lesser prophet, he will be the Caliph. Regarding Wahabis, not all of them are like that. There are good and bad ones amongst them. What you said can bear some weight. What I mean is, there are people who do claim to be Mahdi. Its not only from the Wahabis, but all across the Muslim world. The guy goes on Tv and essencially claims to be Mahdi, thus leading people astray. The thing about death really comes about the verses that deal with the kafirun disbelievers. In arabic, kafir has two meanings. 1. Too disbelieve, 2, to knowingly cover up truth with falsehood. So you could have a friendly kafir. What these extremist Brothers and Sisters dont really realise is that if Allah allowed men to marry Christians and Jews, why would then he allow us to kill them without provication accept for our conceived ideas? Whats also interesting is that Allah says regarding Christia
n and Jewish women, nore take them as secret concubins. So it is clear that once youre married with them, they have the same rights a Muslim Wife would have. Now there are several reasons why this ignorance exists, and has lead to the growth of organisations like Isis.1. Islamic websites. There are really bad ones out there, like Islamca, that promote this sort of thing.2. Parents. It is the responsibility of the Mother and Father to educate the children in the religion, although most of it is best to do by the Mother since the Mother shares a connection with the child that the Father does not have, therefore she can understand her child better and adapt her teaching. Unfortunately, parents sit 24 7 watching Tv,, not praying, and let their children get to their own devices, which, as anyone knows, is bad parenting. Tv should only be watched for a bit.3. Family influences. The thing about this kind of family is that they indoctrinate children
with these damaging beliefs from a young age.4. Ignorance. People dont read the Quran properly. You cant just understand the Quran by reading it. And thats with any religious book. You need to read a comintary. For the Quran I suggest read Tafsir Ibn Kathir, its online and free of charge and very good. Ignorance also means making the wrong sort of friends, whom can influence the person. What these Muslims dont realise is that Abu-Talib, the uncle of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W, was a non believer, yet the Prophet S.A.W loved him.Hope this helps. Remember, it wwould better to ask a good Sheikh such as Sheikh Hasan Ali. They know the Quran better than I do and I only know some of it, so I dont want to say the wrong thing. If you live in the Uk it would be easy to attend his lectures provided theyre not too far away. Check his facebook regularly, he regularly posts where his new lectures
bsp; will be. Additionally, if you want to get in contact with him, ask Ebrahim collige (just type it into google.) You might be able to contacct him through Hikma online. Dont expect an immediate response because these institutions are quite busy. And the staff may be on holiday. Give it a few weeks before resending the email and hopefully theyll reply.

Re: Audio Interfaces and Systems

I think that having things change pitch would imply a slope, but yeah it could use some additional information. The players footsteps when they walk could really help provide information on the kind of ground their walking on, like slopes, rocks, etc. But thats something to consider later.Listing the current sounds and things to assign them to is a good idea, right now there only seems to be straight on/off blinking, what about including tones that are a more gradual pulse? So you could have Fast Blink, Slow Blink, and Constant Tone, with possibly a Slow Pulse and Fast Pulse, which could help flesh out the number of surfaces that can be represented. One way to let players know about the ceiling or other extensions off screen would be to clamp a square/tone to the edge of the screen, so if a ceiling goes off to the left, the tone for the ceiling would be locked at that point on the left until you reach its edge or opposite endpoint.

Your heart then sinks because you are a jaws user, or super nova, or window eyes, but the program will only run if an NVDA addon is installed, and running. Yes, NVDA is free. but that would mean youd have to learn to use a whole new program and system just to play the game. I really dont think that would be fair at all, and this statement is coming from an NVDA full time user. OK, we use instnat translate and such because we are used to it, but Im not talkinga bout that. Im talking about launching the app only for it to say you must have NVDA to cont
inue. Now that would be very very unfair.

Re: DeathMatch, a new beginning

Greetings! You asked, so I delivered, for months, youve delt with the old speed system, the old clunky system that made you rely on thrustors to increase your speed. But now, no more. Intraducing the new speed system, with smaller numbers, and faster speeds. To clairify, for exampple, 10 is now lightspeed, 20 is now transwarp. Transwarp is even faster than before, so enjoy crossing huge distances. Acceleration is now not nearly as annoying as it was before. Key in a speed, and enjoy as you reach vast distances. So yes, no more increasing speed to 10, and having to use thrustor power. Enjoy!

Re: Q9 Has a New Home

GeneWarner, 4 years ago, I was in and out of the hospital with heart troubles, thats where Ive been, thats why I wasnt able to buy the game. I played Swamp avidly and had to give that up too, all my novel writing, fishing, everything. Its only been recently that my health has improved well enough for me to get back to the point where I can sit in front of my computer for long enough of a time to sit down and play a descent game. And Im not so upset over Philips decision, though I think a little extra forethought upon his part couldve avoided this mess (he couldve found an alternative vendor to have sold the rights to or stipulated in the sale of rights that it continue to be offered as a stand-alone product), its more Bryans attitude that seems to be the problem to me.And thank you for proving my point, you werent around when Freedom Scientific was breaking federal antitrust laws and was getting away wi
th it, and all of the avid Jaws users pretty much laughed in the faces of those of us that disliked FS practices. I was around when they filed lawsuits against Gw Micro over placemarkers, trying to claim they stole the idea. I was around when they tried to force Himms to pay an exorbanant fee to get their Braille Sense drivers included in Jaws because Himms distributed with Gw Micro. Im sure other screen reader users here could flag other examples Im either not aware of or have forgotten where FS tried to bully their competition clean out of the market. And no, Window-Eyes has been around much longer than just 9 years. I started using Window-Eyes in 1997 or 98 when version 3.0 came out. And where are the Window-Eyes users and its just the NVDA users complaining? Havent you read a single post Ive written. Im primarily a Window-Eyes user, NVDA is only a secondary, back-up should I have reason to use it. Dark is a Super Nova user, and he&
#039;s thrown his two cents worth in on this thread. And yes, companies try to destroy their competition, but there is one problem with that, most industrialized countries, especially the United States where FS and Gw Micro/ASquared are located, have anti-trust laws to prevent monopolies. FS got away with their attempts to flagrantly violate those laws because of people like you defending them, because FS knew Gw Micro didnt have the kind of resources to fight them in court constantly, and because most of the governmental agencies here in the U.S. had contracts with FS to supply their blind users with Jaws exclusively. Im lucky that I lived in one of those few places in the U.S. where Jaws didnt have a lock on government contracts, so when I discovered that I didnt like Jaws, I had a chance to switch to Window-Eyes. Now that NVDA has come out though, FS has competition it cant handle, simply because its free and offers most of the features t
he expensive screen readers offer. So no, this isnt an NVDA-only complaining session. And for my part, even if Leasey were a Window-Eyes only or NVDA only platform, Id still have a serious problem with this for all the reasons Ive explained in all my prior posts. Jack referred to FS being the Rockefeller of the screen reader market, perhaps you should actually look up Rockefeller as Jack suggested for a little historical context to anti-trust laws. The irony is Microsoft was being threatened with anti-trust break-up at the same time FS was pushing in fact to try and become one, and nobody lifted a finger to try and stop them, until a non-profit organization came along and released a free screen reader that stripped FS of some of its clout. No, I dont particularly like NVDA, which is why I dont use it as my primary screen reader, but I give the developers loads of credit for single-handedly ending FS domination over the market, to some degree
  at least.

that is odd, because I just finished the game again yesterday and didnt get any errors while being attacked. Are you using shields or any other defense items? And I wish there were checkpoints as well, but after you figure out its attack patterns you dont really need them, and most of its attacks are audible pretty long before they reach you so gives you plenty of time to dodge.

If you however have a bank account and paypal Id strongly suggest you get in touch with choiceofgames directly, both because I think you can use paypal on their site, and because Im fairly sure that you could arrange some sort of paypal transfer for the games on Ios with them. Also, I know that sinse Credit cards are difficult to get in India as well, Grryf uses apple points gift cards. I dont know much about this system as its not one I&

Ah, well to be honest if i want to know the time I just check the status area clock with dolphin curser, or better still just, you know use my talking clock or my talking watch or something that actually tells the time . As to chrome, well I really dont care or see much advantage to the thing, right now Im more concerned over whether a mac will do what I want, which it sounds like it probably will.Supernova sometimes displays clickable object on clickable text, but as you said it often does not and is a case of just clicking, puppet nightmares was pretty dire until I worked out this problem. Mouseovers are again something else that comes up in web games a lot, especially mouseovers that exist on clickable elements. For example puppet nightmares again has mouseover information for pretty much every single thing on the battle screen from named atta
cks in the log to the names of the participating creatures. I didnt realize how to access this until I found the right ctrl f5 (or right ctrl delete), command to position the mouse pointer at the dolphin cursers current location and leave it there while I went off and read the screen. It also comes up in various parts of core exiles, and in blood wars where its necessary to read the various xp requirements to level, indeed mouseovers seem increasingly common in web games, especially for information or explanations. So, glad to hear mac has this level of mouse control, sinse it is definitely something Id miss.

Supernova was by far the most technically literate of all the Windows screen readers. Those were happy days indeed, that I used Pegasus Mail as my email client which nobody else could touch. But times change and I think the need of a screen reader to be competent far outpaces any philosophical desire. The ideal is that which is both, of course. OS X comes close, but Apple would never concede any accessibility outside of its APIs--not yet, anyway. Fortunately, they dont concede an awful lot of much else, either, which means many Mac apps (those bought both from within and without the Mac App Store) basically just work. This is similar to iOS (except you cant buy from outside the store, obviously).

If the elements on those pages are displayed as tooltips, Then VoiceOver will automatically put them into the control as a help tag. Mac help tags work exactly like iOS hints do, so you can have them spoken automatically or not, but also you have a hotkey to read them even if you have auto reading help tags turned off. Help tags also often help you label buttons in somewhat inaccessible apps, if you ever decide to do more than just web browsing on the mac.On that note, one resource you have on OS X which should make finding straightforward download links much, much easier is the macupdate site. Its sort of like the mac app store, but predates it by many years and also includes all of the apps that you need to download from elsewhere, which is most of the interesting ones. So, its an app directory where you can read descriptions, review apps and so on. Its actually the place I check before checking the mac app store if I ever need something, because it also
includes app-store only apps as well.

I find that VO has easier commands to manipulate the mouse and other cursors. In OS X, there are 3 cursors. The first is the keyboard focus which is what moves around when you tab or arrow or switch applications with command tab. This is the default system cursor that anyone can use. Think of it as the standard keyboard focus in Windows. The second cursor is the VoiceOver cursor. This is a cursor that you move around the screen with VoiceOver commands. Think of this like the NVDA review cursor. I think it may be the SuperNova cursor, but I dont know since I have not tried Supernova. Unlike the keyboard cursor, the VoiceOver cursor can read everything in the window including chunks of text and splitters. Again, this is the virtual screen reader cursor. I would compare it to the Jaws cursor, but I think thats just the mouse pointer. Someone feel free to correct me if im wrong. I am not very familiar with Jaws. The final cursor is the mouse cursor or mouse pointer.
This is the standard mouse cursor that moves around when you move the mouse. VoiceOver has commands to move these cursorsto one another. VoiceOver also has a feature called cursor tracking. This means that the Voiceover and keyboard cursors always follow each other. If you move the keyboard focus using tab, the VoiceOver cursor will move to the new point on the screen as well. The same is true of moving the VoiceOver cursor. THe keyboard will move to the spot the VoiceOver cursor landed on. You can also set the mouse behavior. Now ApplePay provides an alternative at some venues too, including HungryHouse most recently, and that also removes some of the risk. But its still right royally messed up.

Re: Mac questions

Supernova was by far the most technically literate of all the Windows screen readers. Those were happy days indeed, that I used Pegasus Mail as my email client which nobody else could touch. But times change and I think the need of a screen reader to be competent far outpaces any philosophical desire. The ideal is that which is both, of course. OS X comes close, but Apple would never concede any accessibility outside of its APIs--not yet, anyway. Fortunately, the dont conede an awful lot of much else, either, which means many Mac apps (those bought both from within and without the Mac App Store) basically just work. This is similar to iOS (except you cant buy from outside the store, obviously).

I use shields for the bird_ball attack and usually to its charge. Ive had it error when Ive jumped and it hasnt been using the electrical attack and again it was to my left.

So, glad to hear mac has this level of mouse control, sinse it is definitely something Id miss.

Re: Q9 Has a New Home

Nocturnis, I can respect where youre coming from. There are many users who rely on things to the extent that they dont want to go outside their comfort zone. I used to be that way with NVDA a bit, until I realized I was losing nothing and gaining a great deal by making the attempt. Im still a Jaws user but I agree with the state of its progress, so Im not what one would call a loyal Jaws user. I use it because I like how it works, and because Im used to it. Concurrently, I use NVDA for certain things when either Jaws wont work or when NVDA is just better across the board. Generally I think Jaws still has a more robust feature list, and the way NVDA displays the net is still a hangup for me, but its personal preference at that point.I went and had a look at Leaseys pages last night. Theres actually a page now which lists programs you might want if youre a Leasey user. Fubar, the media player you mentioned
, was noted, and so were things like Skype, Chicken Nugget (which I dont use as Im not on twitter), Spotify, Audible, etc. As such, I saw it making reference to other programs, and when I saw Fubar I was sort of pleased. Again, I dont use it, but I know its usefulness. In any case, I think Leasey is a mixed bag. I dont think the hype should be as big as it is, and I absolutely loathe the advertising strategy being utilized, but I do think that some people can get a lot of use out of it.You know how when you were using Jaws, you might turn graphics off, or you might disable headings or tables or whatnot? Or you might change Windows 7 so it acts more like the classic windows xp? Youre changing the way something works out of the box, so it will suit you better, and I personally think theres nothing wrong with this. Same goes for installing jaws scripts to use Skype (another beef with NVDA, by the way, I cant seem to make it work with
skype...maybe I just dont have the right add-on installed. Leasey basically customizes how you interact with your computer. Instead of you going digging for stuff, it just makes things easier to get at, for the basic user anyway. For the more advanced user it has more flexibility.I wont be using it, but I can see the good it may do if forward thinking really continues being used in its execution. All this is a huge digression, of course. I can respect where youre coming from without agreeing with you all the way. I think the main thrust of the topic has been lost, and Ive contributed to that, so I apologize.

A question about the library example in BGT

2015-08-02 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : gamedude via Audiogames-reflector

A question about the library example in BGT

So I originally posted this topic on the Blast Bay forum a while back, but it appears as though no one seems to know the answer. *shrugs* I decided to see if anyone else would have any sort of ideas. So I was wondering if this value given in the DLL library example:const int win32_mb_icon_information=0x0040;for the flag of what type of dialogue message should be shown by user32.dll was converted? When I looked around on the Microsoft website, I found this value for the same type of dialogue box:0xL; If the value was converted, I would be interested to know how the conversion was done. Assigning the above value to an integer in BGT returns a compilation error. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Mac questions

Supernova actually doesnt work by reformatting web pages as I said, its much more physical movement although columnization is something that you can play with online or off it, one reason it works so well with smugglers, indeed the keys to jump between headings, edit areas and such are comparatively recent additions and even then are pretty physical in nature, eg, its easy to check what is above or below controls and move round a page etc. As to the mouse curser, actually mouse manipulation is not instant. The virtual focus can emulate mouse movement, controls and clicks, but where you put the mouse curser is up to you. So, Vo having several cursers makes sense to me, thanks for the explanation. Ive actually noticed the weerd object flicking on Ios, and found it a wee bit confusing, though thats not what stops vo on Ios being convenient, mainly its the fact that for some reason random stuff, even perfectly normal stuff like lin
ks dont display on Ios (perhaps to do with the screen), and because for some strange reason buttons such as the submit post button on this forum wouldnt work, (I tried using my Iphone to post while I had no pc but had to giveup), however Im fairly sure both of those are Ios specific an possibly related to the screen size too so would not translate to the mac. As to Mac aps, well I will probably want a youtube to mp3 converter, and I might end up getting vlc for convenience, though in general aps on a mac are something Im going to worry about later, especially because I know other than web games games are a none starter on mac, (I believe there are if and mud programs but I might as well keep to those on windows), at the moment internet navigation is as I said my primary concern an the reason Im likely getting the dam thing.

And every business will do whatever they think they can get away with towards that end. Exactly. Difference is fs just keeps diggin, diggin, diggin, with no end, like some politicians do all the time. Apple did some pretty disgraceful moves, trying to patent touchscreen technologies so they could destroy android, sony etc, but later realized it was both futile and not fair play so they were humbled to end their rampage and pay fair which, despite copying a few features here and there, have been a lot more tolerable towards its competitors. Hell, they even plan to release Apple Music to android! So you can tell they are humbled by their competitors, and vice vursa. Fs is the opposite. They keep finding holes to dig, and ways to squelch their

Xbox One: Console and Controller guide

2015-08-02 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Articles Room : Sightless Kombat via Audiogames-reflector

Xbox One: Console and Controller guide

***This guide is currently under construction, with the console sections to be added later as well as everything being gradually tidied up***an introductionMicrosofts Xbox One had a tough launch period, with kinect launch titles like fighter Within being panned by critics. However, its been a long time since the console first entered the market and now it is still a viable alternative for blind and visually impaired gamers, in spite of its relative lack of playable games (at least for the former demographic). This article aims to demonstrate that the consoles accessibility, whilst not in line with PC standards at the moment,is at least a true testament to the legacy set by its predecessor, the Xbox 360, released back in 2005.Microsoft accounts and gamertags: debunking a few myths of sortsGamertags have been around as long as XBox Live was in existence. They are what your friends and other gamers know you by in online lobbies and the like, unless of course you choose to share your real name with your friends - a privacy related debate that I wont get into here. However, when setting up for the arrival of my Xbox One, I had a few burning questions that I thought other people might benefit from hearing answers to.Can I have an alternative email address for my gamertag?Yes you most certainly can! This question stems from the fact that the only information I could find about Gamertags was to do with Microsoft accounts. However, when youmake your microsoft account, you can actually choose to use an alternative email address. Just enter it in the box and itll work, there shouldnt be any issues. Can I use SmartGlass without having the console to pair it with? How much functionality will I getout of the app?Definitely. You dont actually need the console for SmartGlass to work. Just sign in with your details and you should be good to go!Can I cue downloads before I get the console so that I can get things going as quickly as possible?Yes you can, although what actually happens after sign in is currently uncertain, I will update this section once I know more.SmartGlassWhilst Xbox 360 SmartGlass was a bit of a pain to get working, it did a couple of interesting things that were quite useful, not least of which was allowing you to launch games from a windows 8 compatible device without even touching your controller. The Xbox One counterpart, a separate app in the ITunes App Store and on Android, is a whole new way of looking at the features of the 360 version. It has several useful features including being able to watch game DVR clips while on the go, viewing in-game help manuals and, perhaps most useful of all, allowing you to purchase items (only free ones have been tested) directly from within the app.***More information to be added***The ControllerThe Xbox One controler, hereafter refered to as the controler, is similar to the xbox 360 version. The Xbox button has been redesigned into an interesting raised circle of sorts with the logo imprinted into it, which is a lot less strange than the 360. Actually, Im going to spend so much time comparing the two that Ill give my first recommendation about this part of the system: if you can, try one. If you do try one, try it with a game you know. The controler itself is well built, as youd expect from a first party product. The buttons are responsive (including the Dpad), with the analogue sticks being smooth and precise. The triggers, whilst evolved from the X360 equivalent, are still as sharp as ever with the only minor point being the new bumpers.Where you could previously press the bumper anywhere along its length to activate whatever function the game ties it to, those on the next generation controler are more finicky. Whilst not unusable by any means, they require an element of practice to master, with not pressing in on the edges being the best way I found of making them do as expected. The play and charge kit controllerThe play and charge version of the controller, unlike the standard wireless controler comes with two important things: A lithium-Ion (LI) battery, allowing for long-term recharging without using large numbers of double A batteries, in addition to a micro USB cable.Opening the boxBefore you get access to your new controller, youll need to open the box. To do this youll need a pair of scissors to cut the tape then youll pretty much be ok, or at least you should be. Things are packaged in an orderly fashion, with the usual instructional manuals and such included as well.Inserting the LI BatteryThe battery is a kind of long, slightly squashed close to cylindrical shape, like those featured in the 360 version, with a couple of small redesigns. You simply slide off the back pannel of the controller (which takes a while to get used to, not that youll do it that often with the play and charge version), push the battery in so that the small contact inserts into the whole in the controller. Then you push the other

Open Broadcaster Software

Open Broadcaster Software

***Disclaimer.***If this article contravenes the rules of the forum, moderators please let me know***End of disclaimer***Ive been using Open Broadcaster software for a while and Ive seen many blind and visually impaired users have trouble or just be almost intimidated by the interface. Therefore, Ill try and give what tips I can here linking to information that I find useful etc. This wont probably turn into anything, might not even be expanded beyond this point, but well have to see. This article is designed to help those wishing to stream games, whether they be audio games with graphics or mainstream content, with the assistance of a screen reader, highlighting pitfalls and interesting quirks that might be encountered.Things youll needThe software, found here:Download OBS(note:
Its good if you have both 32 and 64 bit versions of OBS on your PC, for reasons that Ill go into later)A desktop or laptop running an os listed in the system requirements. Windows 8.1 will be used in this example. If you feel the need, a screen reader. NVDA will be used in this example as it is the only one that has been tested extensively with twitch and OBS.***Information*** although other screen readers may work, results may vary.***end of information***If you wish to stream your games, youll need an account with a service such asTwitch.tv, found hereStreaming is not necessarily the main objective this tutorial, just an added step if people want to try it.If you wish to capture gameplay from a console, youll need a capture card/device.
The example used here will be theElgato Game Capture HD.If you wish to commentate during gameplay, some kind of microphone. Whether thats a voice recorder, headset microphone, or USB audio device, it doesnt really matter. Set up proceedures may vary for different devices, but a USB microphone will be used in this example.***commentary may not even be covered, but its a possibility***For those of you wanting to make sure your stream is of the best possible quality with your set up, having a sighted friend/person who is able to check your stream by visiting its page is helpful. This is especially true for individuals with no vision whatsoever, as the stream might sound fine but the video might have blocky frames, where movements look very stiff and juddery. There are those who would
say that it doesnt matter, but if you personally want the best looking stream, run a few tests just to check whenever you change things.A word about screen readersOBS is one of those programs that requires a bit of getting used to. One of the most important things is that you cant actually right click in the boxes (for adding sources and such), you have to use mouse keys (NVDA+left Mouse to root the mouse cursor to the box, then right mouse to get into the menu, e.g. the source menu).Speaking of the source menu, Thats probably the only context menu youll need to use. The program is, apart from the above minor inconvenience which is just that at best and irritating at worst, fine with NVDA.Initial SetupOnce youve installed OBS (which is relatively straightforward if youve used pretty much any other windows installer), take a look around the window. Youll see that things
can be navigated pretty much with tab, shift tab, and space/enter.If you want to set up OBS for streaming with a service like twitch, Id recommend this guide, found on the twitch help page.A couple of notes about this guideIts not exactly up-to-date, from what I can gather. There are boxes missing in places where it says there should be boxes, and the networks tab isnt actually able to be altered, as far as I can tell. However, if you just work around those small quirks, the guide gives you all the information you should need.Bitrates: The recommended bitrate is 3000 KBPS - around that at least. This is way too high for most people, even twitch partners. After I did some initial tests and reading on various forums and such, I discovered that around 1800 or so was good for my specific setup. Id s
uggest tailing it back to around 1500/1600 kbps, and then seeing what results you get and running tests. Its fairly obviously designed for people who arent visually impaired (note the use of screenshots that dont have alt text), but its easy enough to understand with a little patience. The settings dialog is activated by a button in the main window, which can be found by using the tab key. Alternatively, its probably easier just to use shift+tab and go over to it.Ive never had a need for scenes in recording my gameplay, I just select a source Ive added (by right clicking as explained above in the sources list and go to the global sources submenu. If you want to add a global source for later use, you can go to the global sources button in the main OBS window and when the dialog appears, click add and follow the instructions.(Note: game capture is generally reserved for applications (audiogames with graphi

Adventure at C: Stage Builder Manual

Adventure at C: Stage Builder Manual

Hay all.Ive put together a manual for the Adventure at C stage builder. It was going to be packaged with the next version of AAC, but as their is not going to be a next version, Ive decided to place it hear so all can read it.Stage builder manualby Threeblacknoises, with some additional material by Aaron bakerPlease note: to build or edit a custom stage, you must have beaten the game on the file you are trying to build a stage on.To play a stage, you just have to beat the intro level.Getting to the stage builder menu is easy, just press shift s while in the in between levels area. From there select any of the three options. This documentation will cover stage creation, which in turn, covers editing stages.Playing a custom stage is just like playing a normal stage. In order to take advantage of the stage builder, you need to have a folder called stages in the same folder you are running aac.e
xe in.This is where AAC will look for stages, and also where it will save stages to.If you havent modified the AAC folder, this folder should already be where it needs to be, and should also include files called example.stg, and neoexamplestage.stg.The game doesnt save stages in the folder you place it in, because the stages folder needs to be quickly and easily reachable, so you may copy and paste files to it.You may store custom music and sounds in separate folders, as long as they are located in the main Adventure at C folder. You, however, cannot add folders beyond the main folder. So you cant make a folder called music and place folders in that one called main music and boss music, for example. In this example, the main music and boss music folders will be ignored by AAC, and you will only see OGG files located in the music folder.Note that all music and sounds you add to a custom stage will become part of the
stage file, and thus be encrypted so other people cant get access to them.Because of this, their is no need to distribute music or sound files with your stages.Creating your stageWhen you choose build stage from the stage builder menu, youre presented with several prompts designed to prep your stage for building.First, you must decide how big, or long, you wish your stage to be in tiles. Each tile is one step your character can take. This is represented by a number between 100 to 5000.Please note: you cannot change this later.Next, choose your background music.AAC has 4 built-in tracks, but you can add your ownIf you wish to add your own music and sounds, youll need an ogg encoder, as Adventure at c only excepts OGG files and doesnt support mp3s at all.if you select one of the built-in tracks, youll be taken directly into builder mode.If you choose to use custom music, youll
first be asked where you want to get your OGG file from. This must be a folder located within the main AAC folder, You cannot pull music from anywhere else on your PC.Choose a folder from the list provided, or choose to get an OGG file from the main Adventure at C directory. For more information on ogg files and how to encode them, check out Custom music and sounds.Once you choose your background music, youre ready to start building your stage! Please note; under no circumstance can you make a stage with no background music. If you wish for your stage to have no music, you must create an OGG file called silence, and choose it at the background music prompt.Once your stage loads for the first time, youll be asked if you wish to create a randomly-generated template to build your stage on.If you say yes, AAC will place random obsticals in your stage, and your stages name will have (Random) added to it to show tha
t you had help creating your stage.Even if you remove all randomly placed obsticals, the game will still add the (Random) suffix to your stages name each time you save it.Learning your building environmentWhen your stage first appears, its just an empty road of tiles that sound like the ones youve been walking on throughout the main adventure. But an empty stage isnt going to impress anyone, so youll need to start adding stuff to it.The stage builder consists of two modes, the builder mode, where you place viruses, items and obstacles, and the play test mode, where you see how your stage is working. To switch between modes, press f5. Builder mode is the default mode of operation. Most of the following controls are self-explanatory, but the ones that arent will be covered in separate sections.Builder mode controls:F5, switch between modesL: sets the starting location.Space: sets the end of level square or unassigns it. (when play testing, the end of level action(s) will not happen. You must play the stage for them to actually happen.C: checks your location.M: changes the tile you are standing on to a different tile.Shift+M: Brings up the tile creator.Control+M: lets you place a tile within a desired range.I: places an item.E: Places an enemy. Xbox One: Console and Controller guide

***This guide is currently under construction, with the console sections to be added later as well as everything being gradually tidied up***an introductionMicrosofts Xbox One had a tough launch period, with kinect launch titles like "fighter Within" being panned by critics.

Tips and Tricks for KoDP

Hello!Im playing through King of Dragon Pass and I was wondering how other people approach the game. So far Im still climbing the learning curve and my first run through has been less than savory lol.One thing I was a bit confused about was the random event that required you to go places and it only gave you a vague direction. The one in particular I dealt with told me I had to go find some ancient kingdom to the northwest. Would I just explore randomly in that direction or is there a special map icon? I got a little confused.

Re: Q9 Has a New Home

as much as I agree with jean, I think we need to stear this topic back to q9. A lot of nvda users are claiming that they are better than jaws users, and are making fun of those jaws users and claiming that nvda is the best screen reader. I, as a 12 year jaws user, find this attitude to be offensive. I would ask people to please calm down, and consider those jaws users who might still be comfortable with jaws, and not poke fun at jaws. Now, lets get back to the topic at hand.

Re: Q9 Has a New Home

@JaydeAnd I, in turn, fully accept and respect your statements regarding this issue. If you want the honest truth, I wouldnt be surprised if there are people who use NVDA primarily on principle alone rather than set of features, because yes, you are right, NVDA just, isnt JAWS as far as functionality goes, precisely the reason I keep a coppy of JAWS on every machine I use. While I find NVDA snappier, more responsive and less of a resource hog with all of the features I would normally need, JAWS does get me out of sticky situations at times. At the end of the day though, I find myself rooting for the underdog, because I guess thats just the kind of person I am. lol@jsymes,Thanks for sharing post 137 with us all; its always comforting to know youre not alone and that there are others who face somewhat similar battles to your own. While I certainly hope that whatever it is youre actually dealing with
gets better and I do not hope to minimize the severity of your situation, I myself have had to give up more intense audiogaming in the past year or so owing to ear related issues. In fact, at present I am currently dealing with an ear infection, and that is always somewhat terrifying for me, given that it was multiple ear infections that have done away with most of my left ear. What with this one being in my right one, and my right one being the ear I now rely on most, the importance of not taxing myself could not be clearer to me. I miss swamp, miss RTR, miss audioquake, miss judgement day and many, many others that I once played that required a good ear and fast reflexes, but my ears have to come first.

Re: Change.Org Petition Against Samsung

I know Im revising an old topic, but, @Visigoth: The reason Apple doesnt want you to see the inner-workings of their system. Apple doesnt design their products with techies in mind at all. They design their products primarily for people who are looking for somethin, whether it be a computer or iphone, just to get their stuff done. So, they limit off the inner part of their devices so as to protect users from screwing things. Nice idea, but it also locks the techies outa the inner-workings of stuff unless the jailbreak. This doesnt really apply for the macs, cause you can easily get past it with sudo, but not with ios.
