Re: Discussion about Blind Accessibility - the next steps?

I guess you could consider it a kind of reverse Spectrogram. It usually processes images in pulses which can either be processed very quickly or slowly, depending on the users preference. In this particular use case though I expect a toggle for a single sweep or continuous play would be preferable because of the interference it would cause with the ambient audio cues and beacons. Overhead can be a bit of an issue though without some optimization, the process can usually only handle low resolution images in a timely fashion as a result and typically has to downscale, the vOICe for example can handle a max resolution of 176x144, my own usually hovers around 64x64 or 128x128.As I mentioned my Audiocraft prototype has a working binary demonstrating the concept, I also have a minimap implementation with my [AudioRTS] demo. I'm not sure if its suited to a fast paced game though,
it may depend on the rendering speed. I think something like navigating spaces in games like Gone Home, SOMA, or other slower paced games might be more suitable. Also keep in mind though that Peter's also planning to deploy this for people to navigate in the real world as well, so there may be some practicality to the idea.

Some people have already asked about weapons, i'm looking at implementing galactic network terminals again for this perpice. To get variants such as Bill and George, copy the variant files from the more variants.zip file to espeak-data\voices\!v, and then import the registry file that is for your platform.

Okay I know I'm a trifle late to the party on this one since the game went a bit wonkey on my old machine, but I do like the idea of another rpg, indeed I've been trying to play rogue likes for years and not found a good way other than angband, supernova and large graphic tiles. I've downloaded the windows ful version from the first post but I'm not sure what I'm doing. I couldn't find a readme in the program folder. by hitting random keys did manage to start the game and get speech, however I can't find any help files to tell me about key config, either for speech or the game. I know in most roguelikes the slash or question mark is usually the help key, however when I press that I see text on the screen but espeak won't read it.Some help on getting started would be great since a bit of poking around does suggest this is probably an amazing game and just my cup of tea once I can get into it.Oh and yes,
I realize that I could probably find the answers in this topic, --- but come on, I'm lazy . Also if I am to make a database entry for the game I'll need to include some information on how people can get up and running with it.

So if I have this right, what he's doing is each snapshot he's converting each pixel into essentially an amplitude value, and x denotes timing and y denotes pitch. I also imagine these snapshots make a lot of audio noise so they have to be toggled on and off? Either way it sounds like an interesting navigation tool.I actually probably could translate that into game maker, overhead permitting lol. Well, probably not panning unfortunately since GM's sound engine sucks. However I think with commercial games in order to implement this snapshot system a separate mask would need to be implemented, along with whatever collision masks are there. It would be really intriguing to have a 1st person game take place with this sort of navigation but I don't know how efficient it would be for something fast paced. I don't think that emulating how a person looks around will be helpful though, but rather emulating an image that represents hazards, safe areas,
enemies ect. but that's just me, maybe you know better.Going back to relational maps, I think the most effective use of this snapshot system would to use it as sort of a map that can be accessed at any point; this removes the noise level problem as well as allowing a player to essentially "glance" at their immediate vicinity. This solves the distance problem but idk if it helps in fast paced scenarios. I mean fill me in here I'm learning a lot lol.

While your there you could also grab a free copy of The vOICe, which is a mature implementation of the concept.I've also translated some of those examples into Python, which you can find [here] and [here], and my [Audiocraft] prototype has a working implementation with included source code. What it basically does is take a 2D images RGBA data, multiplys the data with a waveform, and Sums the array along the Y axis into a 1D array for playback in an
audio buffer. The result is that a pixels position is plotted via time from left to right, and pitch for up to down, mapping the relative topography of the image.

Re: Discussion about Blind Accessibility - the next steps?

No worries, finding a job right now isn't exactly the biggest concern; I'm already content with my current employment. If you're interested in having me work with you contact me privately via email; this was more about assembling a team or maybe a github project; although it doesn't help I'm talking about 2 simultaneous potential ideas. I never heard of Peter Meijers, looking into it. So let me get this straight; what it does is it renders essentially a sound map (similar to a bitmap) and then plays a sound that's essentially a compilation of that? I assume that this has to be triggered by the player, similar to a sighted player flashing the map so they can see their relative position. How is the sound generated, I'm interested in learning more.looking into him I should really get into contact with him at some point lol!In regards to microbraille, I mean it's possible. The thing is though manufacturing the dot mechanism
I don't think should cost that much tbh. They're just rods with rounded ends that are cut to be a certain height. They would fit in a shaft. You could have a mechanical component moving them or even other possibilities. I don't think it would cost more than $1 a dot, at least on a manufacturing scale. Consider that the dots are technically part of a larger mechanism that likely trims some of the costs as it gets larger; but I don't think designing my own pins would be particularly difficult or overly expensive.I'm not sure why you're claiming the firmware would be comparable to an LED watch. I was thinking more of a phone-sized device, but potentially thicker for the braille mechanism. Input would be handled through buttons that input braille one at a time, and also control buttons that control the cursor position. The output is either through TTS via speaker/headphones or braille output, and basically the UI would be a series of menus. Possible
that you could even build games on it maybe? LOL. But it could take notes, make do stuff like have a calculator or even store notes or something. The idea is that this isn't a tablet so much as it's like a strip with some buttons on the bottom to control input. I think something this simple could reasonably be built under $500, possibly $300, but I don't know what the cost of building the software would be. I haven't built something like this before so my estimates could be totally wrong but I don't really understand the problem.Question, is Discord accessible? I might create a blind accessibility development channel, that might be a good idea. https://discordapp.com/No drama though, this would be 100% development based

I assume that this has to be triggered by the player, similar to a sighted player flashing the map so they can see their relative position. How is the sound generated, I'm interested in learning more.In regards to microbraille, I mean it's possible. The thing is though manufacturing the dot mechanism I don't think should cost that much tbh. They're just rods with rounded ends that are
cut to be a certain height. They would fit in a shaft. You could have a mechanical component moving them or even other possibilities. I don't think it would cost more than $1 a dot, at least on a manufacturing scale.I'm not sure why you're claiming the firmware would be comparable to an LED watch. Possible that you could even build games on it maybe? LOLQuestion, is Discord accessible? I might create a blind accessibility development channel, that might be a good idea. https://discordapp.com/No drama though, this would be 100% development based

Re: What audio information would help you in the real world?

Hi.One thing I have seen at ICC 2015 is a belt looking like, well, a normal belt tied around your waste. it has I think 6 vibration motors at different positions build into it so it can give you feedback on what's around you.You also have a head mounted camera which you tie with a strip round your head, a bit like the helmet light if you know them, with that it also can detect hanging objects like low branches, overhead signs and other things hanging round there. It was still a proto type and some major features were not ready, for example the device needed quite the big batterie needing to be carried around in a backpack which would be not ver'y efficient.I dont know who is developing that project, but it was quite the promising start.Greetings Moritz.

2017-02-17 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : alec via Audiogames-reflector

Re: operation redspot. The final debriefing.

First I am going to say this. I'm blaze on the game. I'm an admin, an RTU member, and proud of both things. I will try to voice my opinion without restating what others have said, but as I agree with them, it's almost inevitable. I will start by admitting that although I'm good, I'm not excellent. Most of my teammates are able to kill me when we both have default stats. All of my kills, however, come from being good, not from collecting or cheating. Some of you may recall that a fair number of the times I've logged in, I do it just to take my anger out on a few people. I don't even stop at the base for items. Why waste the team's resources when I'm just going to die anyway. I kill a few people, some guy gets smart with a shotgun, ouch, I'm dead, just like anyone else. I didn't have any shields or items, so because some guy figured I didn't have much health, he whipped out his most damaging weapon, took a shot and nailed m
 e. It's all about skill guys. Let me use this example to prove it. I'm not making this up.A guy asked me if he could join the RTU the other day. I'm not sure why he asked me. I'm not the leader after all. Anyway, I sent this back to him: "Give me one good reason why you would make a good RTU member." After having a good think, his response was something like, "I have items to protect the base, and I can fight well." "Let's see about that," I sent back. Here's how the fight went.First fight: 150 tiles away, I fire grenade 1. Miss. grenade 2: ping. Grenade 3: ping. Splat. Dead.At this point I sent, "You don't have items because you're dead, but I'll give you another chance to prove yourself."Second fight. 150 tiles: grenade. Ping. Grenade. Ping. 100 tiles. Grenade. Ping, grenade. Ping. 50 tiles. Grenade. Ping. 30 tiles. Rocket coming my way. Move to the left. Rocket dodged. Tar
get centered. 10 tiles. Shotgun drawn. Shot, shot, splat, dead. "You can't fight," was the message he received upon reconnecting. If that account doesn't prove it, I don't know what to tell you guys. Would an item collecting drone know that firing rockets at 30 tiles and standing there waiting for them to hit is bad? Would a cheater be able to dodge said rocket, slide in and murder so easily? If I was cheating, I would just walk up to you, not worry that I'm being hammered in the face by a million shells and grenades and tase you right dead. Actually, scratch that, I wouldn't even be able to catch you because I wouldn't know how to track properly, and yes kids, there is a proper way to track. And speaking of item collecting drones, a person with no skill who just collected items for hours wouldn't live long enough to deposit anything of use in the base, especially with the dramatically increased player base where you can't be an
ywhere, except maybe in the underground, without having a player 130 tiles away from you or less. Now, let's talk for a bit about why everyone's base keeps getting destroyed by us. An example I will use is Mr. Jason Blaze who, despite being a pretty decent player, decided it would be a good idea to announce on public chat that he was about to create a base. Does that sound like a particularly good idea? Nah, didn't think so. This is an FPS we're talking about. There are no laws, strictly speaking, so people can just destroy whoever and whatever they want. So saying you've just created something that could make you powerful is like inviting the entire game to kick your ass. Since he hadn't yet created his base, I just happened to be the only one who took notice of this, so naturally I chased him down and took care of him before he got to create his base. That took the skilled use of a bike, knowledge of the ledges and towers of the map, and very goo
d tracking skills by the way.Now you might be thinking, "The game tells everyone you've created a base anyway, so couldn't they just kick my ass anyway?" Aah, but you're wrong. If you're scared of being found out, think carefully about the name of your base and its location so people won't find it right away, and you have a chance to get powerful, especially if your team is small. That leads me to my next point.Where on the bloody fields of redspot did people scavenge up the idea that bases are a solo thing? Everything about them screams "TEAM PLAY!" You can't collect enough bitcoins to buy anything useful without help, which means you'll never be able to fend off the hoards of irritants shooting your treasure with their pesky weapons. And since it's just you, you can't fight 10 people by yourself, which means sadly for you, the work you just spent on your base will be gone in a matter of minutes all becaus
e you didn't find a few people to help you. It even says in the readme, which I helped write by the way, in case anyone cares, "Bases are a new feature to encourage TEAM PLAY in RS." I remember about a week ago, when the update was first pushed, there was a team called RTR that dominated th

I get the pun stop bots screen, and regardless of what answer I put in, it kicks it back as a wrong answer. For instance it can ask me for the name of the site, I put the right answer in, it reloads the page with the same question and acts as if I never answered the question. Can you guys take a look at this please as it's highly annoying to have to fight through this every single post.bEDIT: Okay, that's just weird, there's absolutely questions that are broken in the stop bots thing, that's for sure but why is it flagging every single post I do as a potential spam bot post? I even got the page when opening a new tab to check new posts in the new releases forum, does it think I'm trying to throw spam posts out there or something?

Lol you guys are funny, I don't know what up with blind gamers are taking games as a part of their life. All the problems and complainings I sau, simply was cause of this reason.Ok, connar or whatever your name's, my life you don't ever have a hand on it. it's my chois if I dicide play red spot the whole month, or get away from it. Yes, I've a life and studies. don't tell me when, of course you don't know cause when you logging you see me on, while other times I'm off for 12 hours. Anyways leave us in the topick! I've a question here, what's the aim of rs? I guess is to kill and not get killed. I won't say RTU's good or bad, but it's a team. Any one can make one like it. for the point of good players, this is the challenge. For god sake tell me! how are you going to destroy a base with a grenade launcher, while I'm hitting your back with the sword. This's what players do, they don't get strong no
; they just die and come back. Also if I see claymors in the entrence, why will I keep  going and dying in there. If I were you, I'd think for an other solution. Now people will say ok we're trying, but you kept blowing our base, let me tell you, and I'm going to make things strait about admins as well, some of players are saying admins are moving their selves, don't know from where the smartness came to my computer to do something which doesn't exist totaly. Admins can just ban people, nothing mor and probably something less. k, we were talking of bases, pritty sure noone will believe me in this, but we can not find other bases all times. One kept standing three days til I found it yesterday; thus, If you know how to hide your base, believe me, you have time to power up, because we won't find it that fast. The bases topick is a good meel to talk about for a month or so. what will be the next? oh this reminds me how some players were complain
ing about someone having over 100 kills. Unlike mr connar said, I never, or let me just say it we never reached 200 k as you're tranna believe. The max of my health I always go with is 10 k til 20, with 40 shielded shots, or even less. so don't put your brain in a hard exam to think of what we're doing, just ask me, or the dev him self, he'll tell you even how the code of the game works, oh I believe he did already. when you were putting some crap down of how the item_grabbers work. So please make sure from your info, then post it down, else you'll be just a lyer.didn't meen to be harsh, but if someone is beeing with me, why would I care? leave you guys, going to my unevercity to live my personal life, that mr connar said I don't have.Greetings.

Smoke-j is right on ce, though it's worth noting that most npc missions do have text about who your doing them for and why, they're not just "I want 50 barrels of oil taken  mars by 10 tomorrow" to Sryth, again I noticed the pvp thing as well. Very depressing saying that the game used to be all about the solo questing. I suppose the adventures thing is my own fault, since I was still plaing the character I started in 2004, however I did find that the gm's way of increasing difficulty by just throwing bigger stuff at you and then making the only way to progress through that stuff to buy weapons that cost real world money was definitely not fun. It's possible the balance got a tweak, mostly I think because some of the prices of those weapons in real world cash terms were getting stupid. say that is one area where core exiles is also amazing, in that the stuff you can buy is generally not stuff that will the game or stuff you a
ctually need for more than convenience.Ce also encouraged player gifting too, by giving players who have! bought an item the same item to gift to someone else, I used to run competitions from my settlement for new players to earn engines and fuel tickets and such.

Re: operation redspot. The final debriefing.

I have just spent an hour writing this post. It is about 11 KB of text. I am telling you now, I shed my professionalism completely. I give opinions that may be sort of harsh. I try not to say anything however, unlike you guys, with out the facts. I try not to assume. For me, this is how this drama ends. I'm pretty sad, honestly, if I can be truthful. People claiming I use give commands and cheat, people thing I'm lying about our base getting destroyed? I guess this world just will never be a fair place to live in, I'm honestly sad to be a part of it sometimes. Very sad. Here. Let me give you the knowledge needed to defeat us. And you may understand what we mean. I hope someone succeeds, so people can no longer say I'm lying. Steps follow. 1. Get a base set up. Use an invisibility shield while your making it, call it a weird name, put it at a very random looking location, don't post about it, be sneaky. The RTU can never find it if you do
that. Use an invisibility shield when ever your near it, be it entering, or exiting. You can't just track a base, there is no way. Next, spend a long long time collecting. Like at least 6 hours. When you get bitcoins, spend it on item grabbers. Then you will grab more bitcoins. Spend them on grabbers. Just get as much shit as possible for a while, making sure your base is strong but unfindable. Once you feel your ready, here is all you have to do. Get as much health as you can to survive as long as possible. Eat all of your food, take all of your antibiotics, all of your poison drinks and stored health and well, every health item you can. Maybe even save a few bitcoins to get like 300 food, wait till it is all cold from the fridge and eat it. You will need a lot of health. Then, once your ready, find one of the entrences. all you have to do is use a bike. They will make you fly past the claymores before anyone can set enough off to damage you much with your loa
d of health. You can't use a bike when coming threw an entrance, so walk threw, and quick face north and ride the hell away from the entrance before we can kill you which with your health level, should take like 50 claymores or more. So your passed the entrance. Your in the tunneled area. Now, the biggest reason for you needing a lot of health. You need to zoom near our bases location on your bike. Of course, barricade bombs. Well, riding a bike gets you passed some of them. When your at our base you will be forced to set some off, the ones you can't quickly ride passed, but once done, your at the base, good job! Now, you have a couple things you can do. For example, use empty gas cans to steel as much gas from the generator as possible. Then, if you can figure out the lock picking skill, you could lockpick your way into the base, steel all the food and all the shit there which would give you a hole fuck load of stuff, Then use a store quadded sword as much as you can unti
l you blow up the base. There you go, you fucked over the RTU's power. Not our spearet, we will maybe come back, but there you go. Of course there are guards, but if you have some skill, you can gas and kill them, because you should, at that point, be a walking base. The base machine gun could be a problem, but you can just use gas cans and steel the power. So, there you go. No more excuses of us saying figure it out, I just gave you 1 possible strategy to own our power source. And, there are plenty of others. You may not need to be skilled, but at least dedicated to the task to do it. Ware there's a will, there's a way. And now I must say a couple of things. I must make a couple of complaints. After all, that is all that's been going on in this topic, so I must make a few of my own. I think I am in titled to this, right? Well, here goes. I feel as if all you guys want this to be handed to you. Just like all the games that you say can't get paid (not j
ust from me), from all the cheats you must obtain , All the strategy you feel you don't need to learn, on and on. I feel as if a lot of you expect everything to be given to you that is not in the physical world. I am sad that anyone ever released a free game. I really am. ok, they are no ware near mainstream games, not mine nore any ones, but you still have to purchase them for like 60 dollars be it online or at a store unless you go down the cracking root. Everyone scemes to comply with that. You purchase your food, your drinks, your digital recorders and mixers, your trips to the arcade or the fair, Your movie trips, You have to purchase all that. But then as soon as you enter the audio gaming world, your just expected to work for a year to make a game that's free. It could be the best game ever, but as soon as you give it a price tag, it's just not worth it. It's not up to me what you guys think is worth, but also not up to you to try saying as fac

Re: I miss Hearthstone...any replacement?

@Caccio, actually we have several sports management games, though probably nothing as complex as what your used to. If you go to www.whitestick.co.uk, you will find several accessible sports management browser games including the popular hattrick. As to actual audiogames, most sport games we've had have been more a matter of playing than managing, though some combine both. Still if you search by genre on the database you'll find several pages for sports games, though I admit I am no expert in this genre since sports isn't really my thing. As to the games discussion, firstly what is this about a game being "dead?" If a game is out there, known about and people can play it, why is it considered "dead" if it's just a finished project? I played a few rounds of jim kitchin's golf game the other day, to check my new computer  working and for a sense of the familiar.
Those are games that certainly won't be getting any updates, but did it stop me enjoying the game?Ditto with esp pinball classic. As to the general discussion about"what people want" Really as someone who has been part of this community now for a worryingly long time, also I might say as someone who pretty much has had! to play nearly everything (to add it to the database), I find these  sorts of discussions rather amusing. People are always saying "Oh if we had game x, but people aren't interested", and yet eventually game x, or at least something in the direction of game x comes straight along. Heck I remember the days when we were lucky if we saw one new release a month, and you probably could count the number of people  developing audiogames without taking off your socks. I do agree with David about setup, however I don't think the answer is saying "Well  tough luck people you need to work harder!&
quot; "accessibility" means as close to equalized effort in playing a game as a sighted person. With advanced fallen worlds, if the game had been running longer, I'm fairly sure people would've requested fixes to make the browser navigation easier, heck I was slightly involved in that myself. Look at king of dragon pass and the adventure to fate games as examples of highly complex titles where that process occurred, not to mention lots of browser games such as drakor, core exiles, sryth, kingdom of loathing blood wars and probably even more that I'm forgetting. Generally speaking if a game is somewhat accessible, eg, readable text, none readable graphics, and you can contact the actual developer who make the game (not just some publicity department who handle things for their corporate masters), you'd be surprised at what a little gentle back and fourth and a few polite requests can accomplish. I don't think this would be possible wit
h hearthstone, since again getting to talk to the people who make the game would be too difficult, and also it's likely that the  framework of the game using canvasing or graphic text or something else that is death to screen readers so it couldn't be made accessible without a rewrite, but I'm fairly sure an indi developer with a ccg will turn up soon, and probably one with a more friendly interface, and more friendly developers .Same is likely true with the Japanese games, although the issue there is one of translation, not screen access,  the easier something is to run, the more people will try it. As to muds, I do agree that there is  a split between those who always want sounds and music, and those who can cope with just text, however generally when people have grown up a bit, you find people appreciate the complexities of a g
ame more than the bells and whistles. It's no different after all to the graphics hype of the sighted world. Heck, I can think of people on this forum who are now playing muds and if games and browser games, who wouldn't have even considered them a few years ago, simply because they've grown a little wiser and have a more educated pallet. I think my attitude to where audiogames are going has rather changed simply due to being able to take the long view. there is no denying I have! seen major advances. No, we don't have audio skyrim yet, but hell, a few years ago we didn't have audio pokemon either.

Re: Discussion about Blind Accessibility - the next steps?

I don't really want to send this thread off on the braille display topic at the expense of the main one (considering that innovation in braille is apparently stubbornly resistant to assaiying), but... Yeah, I'm all for more information displayed at one time.As regards portability, I currently have a 20cell PACMate which is an unwieldy monolith. About 3 weeks ago I saw a 32cell Braille Edge which is smaller in every dimension, possibly including width since the PACMate displays are designed to be interchangeable so a 20 is only marginally less bulky than a 40. ... I want that Braille Edge. Oh, I am glad I have _something_ to use as a notebook that's more portable than a Laptop and more longform-friendly than a phone/tablet/touch screen in general. But something less likely to break under its own weight would be great, and I'd be gaining 12 cells! The problem seems to be an engineering one. How do we cram more moving parts into a tiny space for the smallest price and best quality possible? ... And then get it manufactured and developed and distributed for a reasonable price while still paying the talents involved who could be making much more at Google? I mean... I'm sure two-line displays exist. I've never seen one, but I think I've heard of one...To make a visual comparison, I'd much rather read a novel on one of those monochrome amber / green monitors from the 1980s than on a calculator, but a Nintendo DS would still be an improvement, and a Kendel would beat all of them. What we currently have is the calculator. There are some full-screen devices out there which a whole 3 people seem to have access to, off somewhere in Japan and Korea and Bristol, and while I'm not sure about the DV2, comparing the other two to monochrome monitors is being a little generous, from the sounds of it. The Braille Tablet is the holy grail that everyone is questing for. Occasionally someone will write an article about something in more of the DS category, but those are less substantive than the seemingly mythical fullscreen devices. So, if you want to aim small, and can come up with a way to make a nice not-too-thick rectangle-thing for roughly the price of an iPhone±$250, that's mostly unexplored territory.Ah, wait! You know? I have been thinking that smaller braille devices would be good. Not for reading sentences or code, but... you know those things they call braille watches that are really just watches with the hour marks embossed and the hands exposed (does that seem like an iffy design to anyone else?)? While I'm sure 5 cells wouldn't fit very comfortably on the wrist, and people are mostly dropping watches in favor of phones (or Apple Watches) these days, it seems to me that little things like watches, digital thermometers, etc are being completely ignored in favor of the much more exciting book-reading devices. And I wonder... is that a gaping hole in the market that might actually go somewhere (especially if this was 1993 and these could be made relatively non-bulky)? Or is it being ignored for reasons other than the attention to bringing down the cost of line displays and trying to come up with viable page displays?I mean, if it's $1/dot, a 20cell display costs $160 to build. I think it's more than that--let's go up to $5/dot. So $800. A watch would really only need 32 dots (you'd want a colon and maybe AM/PM, but those don't need whole cells dedicated to them). We can probably cut that in half, since the numbers only take up a maximum of 4 dots. At $5/dot, your braille watch costs $80 to build, and is no more complicated firmware-wise than an LCD watch. You could probably even come up with some tricks to take advantage of the fact that there are 6 unused dot combinations to reduce the cost, and also it'd only need to refresh once every 60 seconds, and 5/6 of those refreshes will only update the last cell, and 5/6 of that remaining 1/6 only update the last 2 cells. So, yeah, I like the idea of tiny braille devices (Microbraille?), just not so much for text or illustrations, and more for unadorned numbers and such.

Re: I miss Hearthstone...any replacement?

As for your discussion about the differences between sighted and audio game-world and gamers, as an ex-sighted, and currently audio gamer myself, I must say both sides are right. There indeed are game genres audio-games lack of, and primarily not due the impossibility of "too-demanding" game-production, or audio-adjusting/adopting them, but more due the overal lack of the gamer-community's interest. For example, Football Manager was one of my all-time-favorite game, which I regularily played since 2007, by buying its newest release each year, so the last one I could still play (for a while) was Football Manager 2016...I highly doubt there exists ANY sport-manager genre game for audio gamers, which I, as a great fan of generally all sport-manager games sincerely regret...since I know of the total lack of the interest for that game-genre, I haven't even tried to ask audio-gamers-community about them. And just think of it: sport-manager type s
imulations are usually text-based games, mostly featuring/consisted of mere options, settings, statistics, and plain-text only, except the played matches, which can easily be commented verbally, since even in" sighted" manager-games there usually exists a written match-commentary, (check the Football Manager series), so all their elements could easily be transformed into audio (verbal) forms instead, or just be adjusted/adopted to screen-readers.So creating/developing a sport-manager game, or evenmaking an existing popular game like Football Manager audio-playable, would definitely not be a too hard task for audio-game developers, if only there would exist a significant/considerable amount of interest for it...

Re: the Helen Keller Conspiracy

A child's ability to parse thoughts coherently is directly tied to the sorts of language and material around them.Keller obviously had a high reading level at nine, so her ability to express herself linguistically was similarly advanced, plus of course, it's likely that reading and writing were her mane modes of _expression_, there not being too much by way of sign language around then. Though equally bare in mind there was a lot of shlock around then too, (they didn't call them penny dreadfuls for nothing), so undoubtedly Keller's coherence wasn't just a reflection of her time, she did actually have a brain (something I do approve of).

Re: Monthly Chat February 2017

Well I'm not sure on brecksit, but as far as graceless goes, I have the series but haven't listened to it yet. Worlds indeed was a giant promo, but I was just downright disappointed  with the ending. To have three promising a huge confrontation with interstellar evil and basically to find their last spaceship with a flat tire was down right irritating! then again, this isn't the first time that doctor who has promised and not delivered in the epic department, though I do find it disappointing when it happens in the audios since generally I expect better writing quality than that. I enjoyed the first three series of graceless, so we'll see where four goes. I thought the principle of two ditsy ladies with nearly ultimate power having random sister bitching sessions about the same dude across all of space and time was both amusing and a good story, though I don't really know how their going to write themselves out of series three's good ending. summerfield isn't my favourite bf series, mostly because so much relies on continuity with the novels it's hard to get into or who half of the cast are, and things suddenly change for no reason. Iris Wildthyme is sort of hit and miss. When it's on it's really funny, when it's off it can be irritating as sand paper underpants. Sadly the first pilot series one they did was very much the latter, but seasons 2 nd 3 improved things no end. Four however basically retconned the near total destruction of the universe in season 3, and also had no pander dam it! I also have to say Iris, or rather pander  responsible for one of my favourite phrases, namely the idea of giving someone a punch up the hooter! .Well yessterdan I utterly failed to do the stuff I said I'd do, but on the plus side I did get to play a lot of crazy party and had a great evening with one of my friends, albeit both mrs. dark and I crashed rather early due to unexpectedly strong cocktails and a very large Mexican meal .I will say it seems odd going back to a place where they know meby name and where I've been roughly once a year or so for the last fourteen years where I first went as a student, now going with my wife of all things. Really, the thought of me having a wife still seems totally bizarre, bizarre! heck, the shear unlikeliness of us getting together and the amount of romantic clichés we went through, it feels like my life has become  an extremely! shlocky film .Well that's enough of that, especially at four in the morning.

Re: I feel like college is changing my friend

(I'm going to read this post in three years and cringe, I just know it.)I submit that religion serves a purpose completely independent of its truthfulness (after all, there are many religions out there which contradict other religions). There's this saying that there are atheists with a God-shaped hole in their hearts (#notAllX). There's always this talk of "find your passion" and so forth. Time after time, it's found that people function best with community and when doing things to help others. These are not strictly the providence of religion, but some of them--Christianity in particular--have certainly gotten better at it than most substitutes. Then we have culture wars and morality debates and everyone telling everyone else why they're wrong, which we'd have without religion because we'd still have politics. And we'd have it without politics because we'd still have clans and tribes and subdivisions and families
and cliques. The big three evangelistic religions--Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism--did an interesting thing, by filling that need in such a way as to transcend national and ethnic and tribal divisions. They did it so well that they've remained recognizable for longer than most empires. And yet they are three and not one, and but three of many. One can't really run a supposedly democratic republic and with one made law above all others, unless it's just that homogeneous a republic. You can't really have "kill the infidel" as a policy in a world that is overwhelming majority infidel by the same reckoning. You can pull a Tokugawa and go full isolationist (and literally send ninjas to sabotage Christian rebellions, because that happened. It was one of those "Hey, I'm Jesus's brother!" groups that has a nasty habit of springing up when Christianity reaches a new place and doesn't immediately catch on.), but th
at isn't going to work so well with post-war America. (By which I mean post-World Wars. American isolationism worked well enough, right up until it ended. That is not a genie you can put back into its bottle without the past century of advancement collapsing. Some might say that this is a good thing, and a techno-economic collapse would put civilization back in position to be more accepting of religion. To which I say that a god who can't withstand Twitter is hardly a god at all.)Also, Nocturnus's talk of  a democratic constitutional republic devolving to legalism hits the nail on the head, religion aside. That problem transcends political divides.Though I kinda imagine it has to do with the arcs the pendulum has made since Communism became the great boogieman of the 20th century. The Pledge of Alegance having God inserted, then made a ritual in public events and places and schools... to unmask Communists. (Not that there weren't Soviet spies al
l over the place in the 1950s.)Then came the 60s counterculture. Which devolved into the 70s. Then the reaction to the 70s brought us a dramatic reduction in crime, gains in economic prosperity, and MS DOS. And lots and lots of mass media paranoia about every little thing. Entertainment kept drifting one way, culture outside of Hollywood and the Ivory Towers drifted another, the Cold War came to an end, and the guard rails keeping the pendulum from going wild fell with the Berlin Wall. And here we are. Escalating nastiness on all sides.Where is God in all this?Well, the nuts in charge of fighting Communism back in the day tried to shove him down everyone's throats in the name of fighting Communism. At the same time that an enormous technological / economic / etc, etc boom hit the world. Everybody has been overreacting to everybody else ever since. Not that people weren't before, I suppose. But we probably wouldn't be having this conversation if not f
or the Red Scare. What to do? Well, since blow up the world and start over is not a viable option (even if we had a Deathstar, a portal to an uninhabited Earth, and a team of well-vetted pioneers ready to do the job), I'm kinda running out of ideas. But if we could all just agree that people can think very differently from us and not necessarily be stupid/evil/immoral/whathaveyou, that would be a start. Do not just read the previous sentence and think "Yeah, ! Stop acting like we're evil!", for that would completely miss the point. Remove the log from your own eye before removing the speck from your brother's.

Re: Discussion about Blind Accessibility - the next steps?

My own work's mainly been with Peter Meijers image to sound rendering, though mostly with image mapping lately in regards to paint software. My audiocraft prototype utilizes a simulated depthmap of the 3D environment for taking snapshots, I had considered adding solid colored textures as well so users could adjust the filtering to identify key objects like switches, doors, hazards, enemies, items, etc. I had also applied a compass style tone system for tracking the players viewing point and position of the reticule when moving around and looking up/down, and was going to add proximity audio cues to objects near the reticule, along with footstep sounds based on the material surface.Combining environmental audio cues and beacons with the capability to take snapshots of the immediate area could potentially help provide some overlap in sensory input and better assist with navigating environments, well 3D ones at least.

I never used a penny of my own money, so capitalizing on any bonus gold, or packs was a must, so me pretty much having a secondary deck of the same class was out of the question. I do remember my warrior rush down deck, that i stuffed minions in it that could attack as soon as you put them on the field. then my weapon rogue deck, that had perfect senergy with my minions and weapons playing off of each other, giving each other boosts in attack power. then there was my shaman deck, all all different types of toadum cards that would pretty much always have a minion on the field, keeping my defenses up at all
times, good times. as for the yugioh mud, when you download it, simply open the folder, hit the letter m until you hear much client, there are like 3 different files with the name, hit the second one, press enter a couple times, then you will be inside the mud, it will tell you how many players are online, then go from there.Sorry, it seems that I haven't used accurate enough expressions.Namely, I had all together only 6 custom decks in Hearthstone, (never bothered with the original ones after earning all their cards), so I actually had no custom decks for some hero-types, I choose to make 2 only for mage, which I called my "primary" decks, while the only ones I constructed for hunter, druid, rogue, and warrior, (so only one deck for each), I called my "secondary" decks, mostly because I created them round 2 weeks later than the2 mage decks, after realizing all the disadvantages of using only 1 hero-type in the game. And
despite trying to keep them as truely "secondary" ones, so round 5-6 levels lower than mage, they still often proved more efficient and successful in PvP than my 2 "primary" ones.EDIT:It semms I will need a "step-by-step" instruction or guidance with that Jugelo called game, meaning one like:Step 1: download the Jugelo mud from "here".

And just think of it: a sport-manager type
game is mostly featuring plain-text only, except the plaxed matches, which can easily be commented verbally, since even in sighted manager-games there usually exists a written commentary of matches. (check the Football Manager series)So creating/developing a sport-manager game, or evenmaking an existing popular game like Football Manager audio-playable, would definitely not be a too hard task for audio-game developers, if only there would exist a significant/considerable amount of interest for it...

Re: operation redspot. The final debriefing.

Hello,I typically dislike posts such as this that only seem to point out unfavorable results or an unfairness towards the original poster. However, this time, I find myself unable to ignore the obvious unfairness that exists between players who seemingly spend a lot of time perfecting their game play and those who just want to log on to play a few good rounds of killing other players. I am in total agreement with connor142's comments regarding the path that this game is taking. Sam, I just have to tell you directly that your games are quite fun to play. STW is a game that one could spend hours playing. And Redspot... Well, when I heard that a game like this was released, I was simply excited to get on and play a few friendly rounds of virtually killing other people. Unfortunately, justifying the RTU or whatever it's called is simply not a good approach to maintaining or growing your player base as a whole. Perhaps you couldn't care less what happens in that r
egard. However, as another post already indicated, if you continue to reenforce a single-group domination tactic, you will undoubtedly lose players. At first, gradually. And then, before you know it, you and the people in this so-called group will be the only ones on the map. This whole situation has "slippery slope" written all over it! As to the others maintaining a similar opinion to connor142, all I can say is that we, unfortunately, have no say in the matter. At the end of the day, this is Sam Tupy's game. If he chooses to enforce this approach to gameplay, noone has the right to tell him otherwise. Obviously, expressing such an opinion is a reasonable way of letting him know your discomfort with the whole matter. However, I don't see this changing anytime soon. It's just too bad! Again, I really enjoyed playing the game. However, I don't think I'll be opening it anytime soon either. I wish the best to you Sam.Thanks.

Once you're logged in, assuming you're using bash as your default shell, when you hit backspace, if you're logged in correctly, you should hear the 750 mhz console beep. If not, rince, wash and repeat the login process. Once you're logged in, type in the following: su -c "systemctl start espeakup", type in your root password, and give that enter key a wacking it'l never forget. If you're using sudo to make root things happen, it's sudo systemctl start espeakup. If you're using debian from the age of the dinosaurs, which uses init.d scripts, instead of systemctl start espeakup, it'll be /etc/init.d/espeakup start. For installs where you set a root password, it's su -c "/etc/init.d/espeak
up start", and for our friend good old sudo, it's sudo /etc/init.d/espeakup start. In case there's a bit of confusion, for sudo, you use your user's login password. I'm also pretty sure that with certain versions of debian, regardless of init.d or systemd, the init.d method should always work. hth

smoothgunner wrote:ya know, I never had secondary decks. I liked to use all of the classes so I wouldn't get bored with just using one most of the time. plus you know they have the daily challenges that forced you to use certain heros so you can earn extra gold. I needed all the gold and dust I could get to strengthen my decks.
And
despite trying to keep them as truely "secondary" ones, so round 5-6 levels lower than mage, they still often proved more efficient and successful in PvP than my 2 "primary" ones.

Re: the Helen Keller Conspiracy

In Australia, all students must take standardised tests in spelling, grammar, punctuation, reading, writing and mathematics when they are aged approximately nine, eleven, thirteen and fifteen. The tests aren't used to show the intelligence of the students, but to compare teachers across different schools and in different areas. A report published recently shows that, although the level of difficulty of the tests remains the same from year to year, each year, the average results are dropping.

Re: Discussion about Blind Accessibility - the next steps?

I've talked about some of my ideas with Aaron Baker; he's pretty busy these days but he's said before it would be awesome to have a joint blind-sighted team to build a standard accessibility engine.TBH my idea isn't really the best out there and I know Aaron at least and I'm sure others have developed better systems as well. Here is the basic model of what I use in Colors:Global:A toggle for accessibility mode turns on and off most of these features. Actually, in Colors, the functions are still executed but the game doesn't use the TTS script if access mode is off. In actual implementation it would connect to the screen reader instead of the TTS engine. Furthermore, if this toggle is off, accessibility objects are essentially ignored.Menus:Each menu option has a set of strings associated with it that provide more information. For example, on an item menu, there is a set of functions that return the strings for things
like quantity, name, description, stat boosts ect. Each of these menuoption objects in a menu can be associated with an element in the visible menu. In addition, the menu as a whole also has its own strings to be read. These are all mapped to normally unused keys while accessible mode is active. This allows for most visual information to be accessible by selecting the correct menu option, then reading off what data you need with a single key press. This is really easy to implement honestly and basically is a specialized version of the standard accessibility interface used with most computers, although using the game's standard inputs instead of tabs.Navigation:Navigation is more difficult. TTS assistance includes reading off the coordinates of destinations, reading off your own coordinates, reading off the terrain and reading the current room (location) you're in.Obviously navigation requires sound though. First, a 3D sound engine is implemented,
however, this works in 2D by collapsing the y axis. The listener is attached to the player, and as the player moves, you can hear objects in the distance come closer or further away depending on how you move. Furthermore, your player makes steps as they move. Each step creates an echo that you can approximately hear where collisions are. If you get close enough, you will hear a proximity sound in the most recent release. Finally, a marking system allows you to drop down audio markers so that a player can listen to the sounds and form commonly traversed pathways easier. Please feel free to add any suggestions. I've been building this in game maker of all things haha, so I probably am somewhat limited in scope.TJT - What makes you prefer a long display to a short one? Do the short displays update automatically? I'm trying to think of a way to basically compress the display in a way that doesn't distract the reader. The idea behind what I want t
o build is that the braille display moves for the reader instead of vice versa. However, if a reader feels more comfortable moving their hand, this solution wouldn't be ideal. While having a long display is easier to read, it's also much harder to carry around and it will be more expensive to produce as well; the goal is to have a very cheap (not so much that it falls apart of course lol) and portable device.

I've been building this in game maker of all things haha, so I probably am somewhat limited in scope.

Re: Discussion about Blind Accessibility - the next steps?

Just a thought: if you want to build a braille notetaker, please do not make one of those ones that has tiny displays, or at least give customers the option of having larger displays. I like longer displays (32-40 braille cells) because it provides more continuity for reading. Also, studies have shown that longer displays generally lead to faster reading speeds.

Re: Phone number varification in games

Actually there's been reports that Facebook does sometimes listen in. Ever wonder why the app asks for access to the microphone, even though it's the messenger app that you do voice calls/voice messages in?Also, they probably do sell the data, at least the textual stuff. It's called data mining and this is why Facebook is free. Marketing companies will pay big bucks. But to be honest I just say I'm blind and hang up on them if I ever get calls from call centers lol.

Re: Careers for blind gamers

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but getting stable income as a gamer personality is extremely hard (blind or not) and honestly unless you're willing to dedicate a lot of time and resources into things like production and have a very personable, charming personality, it's not gonna happen. I think a lot of people my age have tried this, myself included. For example, have you tried recording yourself while you play a game? If you sound like this: https://youtu.be/6XUR9_7_VUwthen you might as well pack up. Hahaha, that's what caused me to bail from the scene. One possibility that might work is you might be able to build a youtube/twitch persona around the fact that you're blind, but in order to keep a sizable audience, you will have to find games that are more popular, so then you'll probably need to play far less accessible games. But if you've got the personality, the time and the ef
fort needed to try it out, then go for it, I'm not gonna stop you lol.

Here are 2 easy things to implement that would solve this problem while still keeping the integrity of the game as it is now.1: bases are limited to 10 health.2. You cannot buy item grabbers at the base computer so you actually have to go out and run items like everyone else who doesn't have one.

Re: I feel like college is changing my friend

@turtlepower17, Exodus, CAE_Jones, daigonite, SLJ and others who wonder why God is central to this discussion:A nation that was founded on Christian ideals is going to be biased toward Christianity.  America was once such a nation; it modeled its constitution and its pledge of allegiance to reflect upon these things.  It was understood that even those who did not entirely accept the concept, idea or even the existence of God were respectful of those who did.  without getting too political, acting like I actually know all the answers or continuing to cram my worldview down your throat, Franklin was asked after the revolution what it was precisely the people had become.  They had no monarch; they had no overall consensus of governing body.  His response?  "A Republic, if you can keep it."Liberty lives in the hearts of men and women; while it lives there, no constitution, no law and no corts are needed to sustain it.  Should it die there, no constitution, no law, and no corts would be able to save it.  I submit to you that the spirit of liberty has died in the American heart and is now substituted by the spirit of legalism, the same kind of legalism we supposedly want to avoid that interestingly enough is said to come from the bible.  We strike bills down on their lack of unconstitutionality, wage war on power through social media and protests while ignoring that power is still winning, and forget that success is determined by character, not calculation and competing self interests.  Leadership no longer has character, business is unethical and science, as far as I can tell through my studdying it has no human value. If you are now or are considering being a parent, think about what you want your children to have... I want my children to have the best I can give them.  As they grow older, I hope I can give them more freedom; I hope I can trust them to conduct themselves with responsibility, as members of society who can be counted on, respected, liked and even sought after for advice and help.  That freedom requires something called virtue. And where does virtue come from?  Once again, without turning to the bible as we Christians might normally do, let us turn instead to Aristotle, who suggests that virtue is habitual and that the good life is a life of mindless routine.  To simplify, the only way one becomes virtuous is by being instructed by his parents or legal guardians to do so.  While this is in essence more than likely going to lead to a bunch of children with good behavioral habbits, Aristotle takes it further; he suggests that to truly become virtuous one must not simply model those habits but stop to think about what is and is not moral, ethical and pure.Suppose I ask you to take some time to think about the greatest, nicest, most wonderful person you know.  Are they well respected?  Are they liked?  Are they contagious?  Are they captivating?  No no no; I'm not talking about celebrities... I'm talking about the nicest, most wonderful and greatest person you know... Personally!  Your mom?  Your dad?  Your brother or sister?  An aunt or uncle?  A spouse?  A friend from highschool?  Perhaps you haven't talked to them in years but you still think about them?  maybe you even envy them to some extent and wish you could be like them? Can you think of anyone?  if you can, ask yourself what it is that makes them such a person.  While you might possibly list material things, more than likely what you will come to is tied in some respect to their upbringing.  Who were they raised by?  Catholics?  Mormans?  Buddhists?  The Baha’i writings say that universal benefits derive from the grace of the Divine religions, for they lead their true followers to sincerity of intent, to high purpose, to purity and spotless honor, to surpassing kindness and compassion, to the keeping of their covenants when they have covenanted, to concern for the rights of others, to liberality, to justice in every aspect of life, to humanity and philanthropy, to valor and to unflagging efforts in the service of mankind. It is religion, to sum up, which produces all human virtues, and it is these virtues which are the bright candles of civilization.  this is such a strong belief that, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook who once called himself an atheist, now believes religiosity is important. As a Christian it is not my religion that concerns me, but my relationship with God.  I do not do what I do out of demand but out of delight.  it isn't a ruleset; it's a combination of reason, rationality and faith, the last of which, can only be freely practiced and expressed when one is free to practice and express it.  My goal is not to condescend, to judge, to condemn, to impeed or to be an obstacle to anyone in any way.  As a Christian who trys to be loving and compassionate, however, a strong believer in life's value and the worht of humankind, both things I did not truly possess before, I do
