Talking of in game currency here not real currency. And yeah if it becomes a problem, there will be a policy I can almost guarantee it. The reason is that the money you get is a lot and really helps you get established, also we want to test your metal in a way, see if you are going to be able to do bigger things down the road, if you can't get past quest 1 without help, then that's most likely not the case. Reiterating from earlier posts, Flux is not a game, it is a sandbox where we simulate many things, curious about what that truly means, then feel free to connect and check it out. I will also repeat that Flux will not be a fit for all.

Just saying, but if I ever get into this game, and I'm thinking about it, and I'm good at questing...If the developer doesn't want quest info shared amongst players and would rather players discover secrets on their own, it'd probably be best to make an actual policy regarding that. I do not like elitism in any way, shape or form, and when I figure things out, would be more than happy to share the information with other players who are having trouble figuring it out, for 100% free.Not really a fan of the type of manipulative playstyle where players are either locked into solving quests on their own with no help at all, especially if they're required to progress, or players want some kind of reward from the one they assist for their help. Yes, I've pulled myself up by my bootstraps and figured out a lot of quests on games that others have not, but I figure other players want to enjoy the quests and storylines too, not to mention the poten
 tially great rewards. Apparently there are other muds that agree with me as well, since games like discworld and 3Kingdoms have relaxed their qinfo policy in favor of a more social and fun atmosphere that doesn't smack of elitists and special privaleges for the few who can discover them.

We've always lacked for players to be honest, because Flux is so different, out of a hundred, maybe 1 would stick with it for a while. So we never really had the problem of players spilling the beans to other players. If you try it and I am online, I will answer general questions if you have them, however, if you want answers that cross the spoiler line, I am going to have to take some of the booty from ya. Oh, about half. Those quests in the caves are the easiest ones, but each one does give you hints in what to look for, how we do things, subtle hints though they are. You actually don't have to do them, they are just a good idea because they give you a nice chunk of cash to get started with. We do have game of the day, which is a small challenge to find some sort of ledge, crevice or sort and traverse it to get to the cash inside. It changes once a day, but you need higher stats in order to perform actions like climbing and stuff like that, so there you would probably 
 need money first from quests in order to train up in the Academy.

I've done a few quests on this game before. They were quite interesting, although how far are players allowed to go in order to help with specifics? I'm getting stuck with the Frandum quests that others just seem to blaze through. So, often times while I request this game, and Frandum is actually the game I've been looking for for a while, and I've just gotten back into it, I have trouble with quests I shouldn't have. I had to get help with that number quest in the house, for example. Even after being told what it was, the order was a bit scrambled in my head, even when I try to put the sequence of events in order in my head again.Even though I'm talking about a different game with a large quest focus, Frandum will probably be the same for me. I'm pretty sure I quit last time because I had trouble with one of the quests in that cave where you first start. The first quest I came accross, anyway.I'll probably try again, since I
 39;m getting bored of constant grinding all the time.

Flux is not the sort of place that caters to sound pack creation and design. Apart from the fact that it is a sort of ever growing and ever changing canvas, if you like, it is the sort of place where simulation abounds. If someone were ambitious, they could certainly create one, but that doesn't mean it will stay current, as we expand and build new or modify existing areas, and add new features, the pack would need to be maintained. I for one do not like to use sound packs, however I do see where they can be beneficial, even enriching certain environments. I have been on MUDs where I will use a pack, and MUDs where I would not. Flux is open ended except in one area, that it requires you to use your mind. In part, this is due to said open ended nature, that meaning we have no linear A to B to C progression. The player can not only choose what to do and when, they are expected to do this on their own. Of course, we do help, but stop short of the spoiler line.We do have q
 uests that make sense to do them in a series, but I see nothing stopping you from doing them out of series if you really wanted to, of course, you're going out of your way by doing so. They also teach concepts you'll need in order to succeed in Flux. We do have combat, however it is not a main point of the experience, and it is ongoing expansion and reworking at this point. So, you could create this pack, and then 6 months down the road or even earlier, functions would not be working since we would have changed things.It's not just for that reason though, Flux is more of a sandbox, we do chat there, we do have social hangouts, and we do allow RP, however we are not RP focused in any way. Flux is a large playground, we sim a lot of stuff from mining to stocks to orbital mechanics with planets that actually move. Thus, since we are a MUD where the power of the mind is what we really seek, I feel sound packs are not going to be a good fit. Intellect is what we
 9;re after, not drones.Now, that being said, I do have sounds in my Flux world file. They are notifications of certain events, and that's essentially it.

Flux has a number of 'events' that fire off automatically, especially in outdoor or caves areas. some of these can be delayed. While some might enjoy the use of sounds like a creaking door or the howling of the wind. the timing of such a thing might not be in sync with the rest of the system, as most of these have a delayed start.The bigger issue for me, is that a text based MUD relies on its descriptions and messages relating to sound and other things going on. This is much like a book, where your mind fills in the blanks based on what you read. forcing an exact sound, rather that whats in your imagination, is like the movie directors version of a book, rather than yours.None of my active players have said that soundpacks of any sort would help. as the descriptions are rich enough where they count.

When it comes to the new space exploration we're talking about, buying a shuttle will be useless. A standard class shuttle has impulse only speed and cannot venture beyond the soar system it was bought in. To truely visit other worlds will require what is known as warp or hyperdrive ability, it just too far at sub light speeds. Consider this, even earths nearest neighbor is 4.3 light years away, and even at 90% the speed of light, its close to 5 years of travel time.Most of our new star systems are going to be 20 to 50 or even a 100 light years away. This means joining the crew of one of the big ships, that have this warp or hyperdrive ability. its not somewhere you can go on your own in a small 10 by 10 sized space can.Now, given that, there are plenty of specialized duties aboard such ships. Stellar cartography, spectral analysis, habital zone analysis, security. and many more.In short, these new abilities are cooperative efforts over many people.

I told you what I can tell you, where, that's for you to find out. Flux is a game of exploration, have a walk about and see what you can see. We don't generally give away information like that, however, if you wanted to pay a substantial amount of Fluxbucks, I might be persuaded to help, however for that inquiry, see me in game. I am Brendt.Flux is an open ended MUD, so things like this can occur. We have devices that form an agreement between two players, each player would have to sign at each step of the agreement, then a price is reached and then at the final step, the money is deducted from the buyer's account and credited to the seller's account. I could also take you on a little space tour on my multi-deck starship, for a modest fee. Antimatter doesn't grow on trees, and if it hasn't been made clear by now, we sim everything here. So it is all accounted for behind the scenes, even if the player doesn't generally see this taking place
 .

First thing first, you need money. A good place to start are the quests. Once you have enough, before you will be able to fly, you need training up in pilotage, so you need to take the courses in the Academy. Then you will need 10 million fluxbucks, that is gonna take you a while to get my friend, so yeah. You are gonna have to do a lot of activities, like GOTD, scav hunts, etc.We do have shuttles that are free to use, but still you will need the initial capital to pay for your lessons because you will not be able to fly without some pilot training.

One of the newest ideas is space exploration, but in a new way. We've always had space areas and planets to go visit, but this is more along the lines of going to an uncharted or un-explored sector and scanning for suitable stars and potentially habitable planets around those stars. If good planets are found, a team might even go visit it and see if there is some civilization down there.This would add to the Flux Universe in general, as new planets and systems are added. A feather in your cap, to be sure, if you were part of a team that found such a place.We have a couple of large ships suitable for living on and performing such missions. Seeing is believing!

Pub Crawls and other social eventsThere are some fantastic places to hang out, Although they are few in number, compared to the rest of the system, they are very highly embellished. Both indoor and outdoor, they are everything from bars to campfires. There is always lots to do in these spaces, besides just hang out and chat. Exactly what can be done, varies by each place.With this in mind, some way of relating how to reach such places will be revealed inside the sytem, as the journey is very much worth it.  One of the best things to do in Flux is hang out with others, and watch what they are doing, as the multi-user environment is integral to the design.I wont spoil such places with the details of what can be done, but there are many, depending on the area.  These special hangouts are the best of the best of places to go, and have been designed for many, not the lone wolfs. Some less common events include the Fluxian Nobel Prize awards, which 
 is presented in the Towne Hall, about once a quarter. These are given for those that have come up with ideas that are implemented for all to enjoy. Some of these include things like the stock market, or real time cooking of food, while others are for other types of enhancements.   Centauri

Recent ChangesA lot of toys in FluxWorld are designed to encourage people to explore and look around and they are rewarded pretty darn well for this.  Unfortunately, some see fit to use this like a 100 bazillion times to make cash, which was never the design goal. Its not a cash cow, its a reward for trying something new.Because of this, many of these toys will now record when each player last used this particular device, and its use time will double for each use, per player, per day. This means about 8 times max per day, not 100s, and even 8 is a lot, and may change, as doubling per day can be changed to quadroupling inside the code in one spot. Depends on the abusers.Question for the community, why do people have to abuse a system and beat a feature to death? Do they think thats how you make money? Is it because they find such a thing the easiest? Lately, I spend a lot of time programming out cheaters and abusers from doing things like this, and I only p
 ut it in when I see severe abuses, there never was such things when everyone 'played nice'Some are intimidated by the sheer size of FluxWorld, so many things were put in place to encourage some exploration, apparantly, some are too easy, as they just do that all day long.The goal of Flux is to try a bit of everything, not do one thing a 100 bazillion times, its not a grinding machine.   Centauri

Flux EnhancementsA series of new changes are coming, some brought about because of the Hyperloops, some, just because changes make life interesting and different.One of the newest changes is the ability to co build an area with other players.Typically, in a MOO type system, only the owner of said object or room, can modify that object. With co build, people can work together to add to an area, change descriptions, seating, noises, etc. This does include adding new rooms and exits, adding to the overall structure.The power of this ability is unheard of as far as I know, as I have never seen this on another MOO, ever.Imagine being able to work with others to develop a whole city, and while working some corner of it, being able to fix things on the spot, rather than having to tell the project owner to fix so-and-so, because you cant. Of course, this does assume that the people on the project understand the ultimate goals, so they are working for 
 the same end result. This really comes to light when people look around at something others have built, as the primary builder might not have noticed something that someone less familiar with that particular place will see immediately.In these bigger social type interactions, communication is key, so that the end goal is realized with a minimum of fuss.  Perhaps a few are delegated to the major structure related to rooms, exits and directions for an area, while others are slated for filling in some details, perhaps the local virtual seating for a room, or noises (which can be time related).I have tested all this with my alts, to be sure the minimums work, tho it might take some minor tweaking as issues come up.An interesting concept to ponder, to be sure.  Centauri

are you connecting at school or work? if so, that could be the problem, they could be preventing you from connecting, forcing you to use a proxy server instead. As long as you have internet, and you put centauri.servegame.com in the host field and you put  in the port field, or, you're using a command line client, in which, I would assume you know how to use it, there should be nothing stopping you from reaching the MOO. I am there every day, most days anyhow.So, lets try to trouble shoot this, are you on a windows, or mac machine, if windows, do you use NVDA, if so, do you have NVDARemote, if so, I could help you. You're from indonesia, right? You would have to have it speaking in English, because I'm a monolinguist to the core... haha.Certainly, there is no reason you couldn't reach the MOO, unless, as I have pointed out, you are attempting to connect from school owr work.

Updates for Mid 2016Many new things are being added these days, area expansions, new vehicle types, etc.  The nature of a few devices is getting more realistic, like repairs to devices which power the electrical grid. Some now require replacement of parts, though this does pay better because of the extra effort.Changes to planetary conjunctions for more awareness of the outer planets, in addition to the local moons, is also in effect.  There are getting to be more places to see in space and on other worlds, and new ways to get around on those worlds.Another big change is the concept of being able to co-build. Typically, on a MOO, a single player works on a build of an area,  because they own it, and no one else except the wizard can make changes to those areas.  With co-build and projects, this can now all be shared between players, building rooms, describing them, changing messages, noises, virtual seating, exits, etc can all be shared betw
 een an authorized group of people. This type of functionality is unheard of in MOO, until now. I dont want to post any spoilers, so there are certain new changes I cant discuss, but good things are happening all over.   Centauri

Mid April, and some new thoughtsGiven some recent talks about RPG, and wanting to do something different than just grinding away doing the same old thing, a few concepts come to mind. One is that for each type of sub-plot or set of actions, the system might remember what you've done, and act differently because of past actions (like a thief or robber is scorned by others).This would vary greatly by sub-plot, of course, as some actions in one aspect or area, while not acceptable in polite society in some places, is perfectly acceptable in others (like the rough and tumble wild west, compared to a victorian era polite society)In particular, I can think of a few places in Flux where such actions could be recorded and things might play out differently for you, depending on what you've done in the past. In the case of magic, and casting spells, this is already done, but it could cover many more areas in general.This does bring up the question of on

This post will deal more with things to do, not necessarily sim related, AKA, things for players to do, and the implications.I do continue to have a few players that love to hang out, and explore many aspects of flux, however, I have noticed that some love mindless grinding (what i call very repetitive actions to earn cash)Given this, as the overseer of the universe, I want to serve both camps, those that want to earn money, and Flux needs, of getting real work done.  In order to do this, grinding should have a greater purpose in the grand scheme of things, so labor at a production facility should actually apply value to something needing to be built. transport of materials should facilitate a needed function of building things elsewhere, etc.Because of some of the bigger plans, there will be a need for working, transporting, and generally adding to the overall l
 abor and work done. In addition, some of this will be both dangerous and costly. transportation, in particular, is subject to pirates, and other cargo losses, the price to be paid for a good haul, you might make it, you might not.There are, of course, safer things to do, as always, like gathering up cash pouches, or rune gathering, etc. Some choose the high risk / high reward path.Things always change and evolve, and this will never change, no matter what else does!

What is a Virtual RealityI wanted to talk about this subject, mostly because some assume a VR must always be a 'game' and this isnt always the case. Virtual reality is exactly that, its a virtual way to explore some aspect of things that cant be done, like space travel, or mining asteroids, or throwing people into a situation and seeing how they react.FluxWorld has always been my space sim. How much lunar mining will net me lots of aluminum for building? How much oxygen is left over? What elements are left that could be considered waste?What other elements to I need to recombine with the existing to make other needed compounds.This did eventually lead to deeper questions, like how much will it cost? Both in energy to produce these things, and in money to mine, refine, process and sell or use.Then came the question of energy itself, how can it be produced? How many ways can solar, hydro, nuclear, etc be used. Can it be stored, if so, in w
 hat ways, which is one of the reasons for anti-matter production, the most compact type of stored energy known. An entire US aircraft carrier which in todays terms runs on some 800,000+ HP using 8 nuclear reactors could be run for 20 years on just 2 kilograms of anti-matter. (I did the math)Then came the matter of making food for the people, lumber for building, and things like that. More simulations. Growth of various animals, growing of trees and timber prodcution, growing of food and its processing, storage, etc.There is also the movement of the planets themselves, which can be seen in outdoors areas and the two moons of Flux, Indari and Menoa goes through phases and positions throughout the day and weeks, and they are not the only ones that move, almost all of them do.All of this is not to say that Flux is strictly a scientific endevour, but that is its heart. Flux changes for the last quarterI havent posted for a while, mostly because a number of features and concepts have been worked on.  For one thing, there are more planets, and solar systems to visit, and some things that go along with this. Getting to other solar systems in itself is a bit of a cooperative effort, given that most of the smaller ships dont have the capability to reach systems light years away. There are a few larger ships though, fitted with cargo bays, shuttle bays, crew quarters, transporter rooms, etc. A home away from home, if one wishes, while travelling.Other aspects are building up or joining or being coerced into an alliance for space battles (just in time for the new release of Star Wars, though this was indeed a coincidience)Of course, FluxMain always continues to change, as areas grow and new features are added. One of these has to do with GridSpaces, which divides a room into x,y coordinates of some rather large dimensions for 
 various things, like tank battles and a few other experiments.Another aspect includes some hidden back ways around, if you can find these, hint: think about old subway tunnels, or sewage access, or even spaces between the walls, etc.There are now more social hangouts, mostly around the various campfires, with places to sit, toast marshmallows, make smores, etc. Some of these have other unique features, and Flux is never lacking a place to get a beer or other drink, and they continue to grow and expand.After visiting a number of other MUDS, to see what others do, I can tell you this, Flux is not a grind away at gathering resources, The focus is more on understanding the variety of what the system has to offer, not some mindless gathering of something as busy-work.  As such, it probably has a very limited type of person that it appeals to, but for those that do like what Flux has to offer, its quite rich. The best of the best over time even work with me to de

ChangesA lot has happened in the last month! Whole new areas opened up, and automated cruise ships to take you around to various piers on various rivers, depending on which ship you board. A new command to know when a ship will return to that pier. The ability to see these ship schedules from the MP.In some work with the baby cores, a Looking Glass device to see the other side and converse with and see things on the other side. Object passing to the other side is also working in a limited basis.  Global chat is passed to all connected systems.An IRC device is being tested that can connect and sit on a specific IRC chan and rely messages back and forth.More space areas added and some new types of space (at least as far as what it looks like).Some more ANSI eye candy for those that can see it.Some special work on production areas, with new features there.Addition of weight for objects and containers, for more realistic VR, and to

UpdateApartment setups and rents are done, as are some interesting Residences with street addresses. There are also some other places to park when you connect and disconnect.There are also quite a few places in the outdoors with campfires or firepits, with places to sit, play, socialize, etc. Some are easy to find, and some will take some wandering. These major social hangouts include places to lay down a tent or just a sleeping bag, but the campfires themselves are the best part of the hangout, and youd have to see one in the evening or night to appreciate it. There are usually unique things near each one, whether that is a rope to swing on to land in a pond, or rocks to climb down and do some spelunking into caves. Some might have natural hot springs, others might have trees to climb up into and hang out in the upper branches.Other areas are being developed which include more beach by the Sea, along with more wooded areas and even a fairly good sized m
 ansion, a bed and breakfast, of a sort.As always, wandering is a good thing, and you never know just what you will find.

Right peeps, this means that while youre getting a hang on the world, You dont have to connect inside the visitor center. You can rent an apartment, once this is all together, and set your home to that. The rent is gonna be far less than buying a place, so easy on the old billfold while youre training up. You wont have the full functionality of a home, but once you start playing with things and get your first increase so you can build, then you can give up the apartment and work on your house.

More New FeaturesPeople have expressed an interest in having a place to live, and although you can buy, there are now provisions being made for apartment rental, fully furnished, for a far less amount than buying would cost. This reduces the need for having the full builder status, but at the disadvantage of not being able to change absolutely everything in the rental. You would still be able to change each rooms description, add seating, or more furniture at your own cost, but not have full access to a few of a rooms features, due to the fact that you would not truely own it. It should work nicely for most that are occasional visitors.The building of residential houses are being worked on in some other areas, for those that dont like the idea of living on Condo Ave, although these are purchased properties only. Another type will be some cabins in the woods, and perhaps some beach houses.The concept of gathering rocks and wood for making a campfire is a
 lso being worked on. Although we have some permanent campfires already, this allows the players to set one up almost anywhere in an outdoor area.

Teaching and growingSome of the players, after learning the ways of things, want to make an imprint on the world, by expressing their own creativity and style. This means creating new things, containers, pets, swords, etc.I have no problem in the mentoring of those wanting to understand the deeper aspects of MOO. I have also been training my longer term players in how to evaluate others work to this end as well.Given that a MOO is generally driven by creative messaging that is triggered by actions done with objects, learning the customization of messages within an object is usually the first steps one takes to making awesome things.An example here explains things best. A player wanting to build something, decided on a Pirates Chest, and this had many messages in which to customize and make an interesting container, apart from the default. When you try to pick up this pirates chest, and it is locked to the location it lives, you might see, Arr matey, yer
  not allowed to pick up Daveys locker! but another message, an o-message meaning what other people see, might say %N tried to steal Daveys locker! where %N is substituted with the players name. Another set of messages have to do with opening and closing this container. if opening the container is locked, the open_failed_msg might be: You cant open Daveys locker without the old worn sea key, and the o-message might be %N tried to open Daveys Locker, but didnt have the key!This is a short example as to the deep world of whats possible.I have helped people learn this part to make very interesting things, once they get these few concepts. Its pretty much required to know this before having a room of your own to live in, because these basics are sorely needed to make a very custom place to live which has many, many messages.

New player training has been changed slightly, for those either new to all MUDS, or just new to FluxWorld itself. Mostly it is designed help you along with basic commands of say or emote, then progressing into @gender and setting your description, then on to other basics like picking up or dropping things. Beyond these basics, there now exists a $missions device. This allows you do do some specific things in the main part of fluxworld, again, mostly as practice, as these are things youll see others doing anyway, and can learn from that.

New FeaturesIf you venture far enough, you will find a place with surfboards, and a way to use them. This includes getting in the water, paddling out and actually catching the wave and seeing surfing messages. You can also wipe out, depending on your skills. New FeaturesIf you venture far enough, you will find a place with surfboards, and a way to use them. This includes getting in the water, paddling out and actually catching the wave and seeing surfing messages. You can also wipe out, depending on your skills. The biggest problem I have is that when I type L thing if there is an item called mysterious thing in the room, it says there is no thing here. This happens a whole lot with items, and makes things very, very frustrating. If I want to look at something, I usually use the noun, not the adjective, as saying look mysterious even with the at the sounds awkward at best, and no one wants to have to type look at mysterious thing or look at mysterious-thing if the items are one of those pesky items that are hyphenated as so many of the fluxisch lvocabulary is. Working with items and all is probably the only frustrating thing about this game. And um, the bats in the first quest killed me, and there is no breather unit thing for exploring that thing that wants you to go underwater. Yeah, I need help.

Id say in general, youll either come to enjoy Flux, or you wont. But, once you do a bit,, if you can become aclamated to its ways, youll just keep coming back for more. And in that case, you would just have to type l mysterious, the reason l thing wont work is because thats just how the matching is done. If it bugs you that much, again, maybe Flux isnt for you. There do seem to be people who just keep coming back, and then there are people who just cant get the hang of it, or have other issues with the way things are done. I can only wish you good luck in figureing it out.

In the case of mysterious thing: Here is the desc: You see CoffeeTable (with mysterious thing and Hot Potato on it), LightSwitch, shoebox, Stage, FluxNews, Forest Picture, Wall Clock, and Flux Radio here.Since it is ON the coffee table, you have to type L mys on coffee, as its not just in the room, its on the coffee table. This would happen if an item was inside a container as well, where you would have to type look item in container.MOO does NOT accept using extra words, like look at the or things like that. each object can have a particular preposition for its commands, like get obj1 from obj2 or put obj1 in obj2, etc.

The StepsLife in Flux People start as complete newbs, knowing nothing, or any places, or what to do, in the beginning, its all about learning the ropes, and how the place works. They learn to operate objects, find things, explore, build up money and stats. This can take about a good 50 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. its a good long stretch, and usually quite an enjoyable time. About the time they max out stats, and have seen 500-1000 rooms, and done all the quests, its time for for advanced things: setting up their own puzzles, ideas about quests, food shops, areas. Flux is all about learning and growing, and once a person gets past the daily things, they understand the Flux Way, and will have ideas of their own. Once a person moves from the day to day activities, to wanting to add to the world, and add their own personal touch and submit ideas, there are provisions for this.  For the very advanced 
 people, there is the ARB, Nobel, even BFAD (Builder For a Day) These high-level, supervisory roles will keep the advanced people engaged and interested.It just how the general flow seems to go. Centauri

I would encourage anyone who likes a challenge to try out the game, Ive been around now for 2 months and 1 day and Ive always found things to do. This MOO does fit a certain personality though, you need to be able to think outside the box, to want challenges, like to explore, and so on. If you want linear gameplay this isnt for you, but I think a lot could enjoy FluxWorld, I certainly have.

Space ExpansionAlthough FluxMain is large, and there is much to do there, I have been asked about the places to visit by venturing into space.In answer to this, the two moons Indari and Menoa have been expanded, as well as some other moons around gas giants.In addition to this, some remote solar systems continue to be worked on. Getting to these is difficult and requires a ship with warp capability, as sub-light speed would take far longer than most of you are willing to wait (seriously).Whats different about these other star systems is that they orbit stars of different types than most are used to. One is a hot blue giant, another is a red dwarf. Suffice it to say that the orbital data and even colors of the plants are different in these places.Of course, you just never know what might happen in space, or when going to another world.

New features and thoughtsMeteors now randomly land around FluxMain (other planets to follow), and they can be mined. Along with this is a Mining Supplies store, which includes your very own OreBox and you can optionally buy a pick-axe, shovel, and sledgehammer (each gives you more ore on a mining operation, and these 3 tools are additive to that total).As some have noticed recently, there was a change to mining. Mostly this change was going from some random number from 1 to the maximum allowed, to using a bell curve so the numbers are centered on halfway between 1 and max, but with a good 30% variation.Also in the works is something similar to crafting, but which I have used to create the L5 station itself: the construction device. This will allow for gathering the materials over time as needed for real construction, from the portland cement for foundations, to the I-beams, to the transparent aluminum panels for windows. This device does all the math, and calc
 ulates both volume and surface areas for rectangles, spheres, cylinders, cones, etc.Another item on the list is gardening plots, which I used to own exclusively before last night, although small, they will allow for growing limited amounts of your own food. Expect some evolution in this process, as only the farming plot itself has been changed so far.Another whole line of thought is what to do about food on other planets outside the Flux system. I dont expect them to have the same exact food we have on FluxMain.The other planets are getting worked on, both inside and outside the Flux system, although this is going to be slow going, as most of FluxWorld will involve Fluxmain itself. I wont spoil whats coming, but just know that whats in space is going to get more interesting.As always, I talk often with my players, and see what they like and dislike, and what they might want to see. Something I have noticed about people that come and go, is they expect instant gratification, whether that involves training up almost instantly, or doing some advanced things right away. To that, I say this: Flux has a feel to it, and a certain timing, which runs on a more relaxed pace. You cannot just join, do everything, and be done with it in a few hours or even a few days. Some things happen over quite a period of time. It takes time to be familiar with the flow of things, in order to appreciate things like the conjunctions of the two moons, or meteor falls, or the rise and fall of the stock market, or the changing prime interest rate which can affect many things. Beyond this are even longer term things, the growing of the food, the height of the trees for harvesting in the forests, the accumulation of wealth.This is not to say that there are not things to do. In fact, some have told me there are almost too many things to do, and distraction can be an 
 issue, as they look for one thing, and are teased by something else to go get, and then something else, and can forget what they set out to look for.To that I say, keep your eye on the immediate goal, but be aware there is always things to do, places to see, bots to learn things from and converse with, and something else to go onto next.

Hehe, Great job!, and the fastest ever to see so many places in so short a time! No help from me even. Quite an accomplishment to find over 1100 unique rooms in less than a month.On another note:There is now a real-time PNG map that gets updated on the web, although I am not sure how many here can see it. It was a long term goal of mine. Something else to cross off the list.Things are constantly changing and being enhanced, or expanded, or new ways to do things found. Just since the beginning of this thread, crafting has been implemented, along with some other interesting features, and of course, all the work to make things nicer for screen readers.Not sure where most of the initial 60 to 70 players wandered off to, but they are always welcome back to see whats changed.

There were a lot of ways to do this, but a player and I had been discussing it, and we have a method of grabbing real-time internet data, and pulling it into Flux for various types of information, like Flux News, #1 was the TMC ranking in real-time (voting changes this).We can pull anything really, from RSS feeds, to anything else one can imagine. given the bandwidth of a standard HTML page, there are some tricks under the hood to make this as thin and efficient as possible, but the end result is some real-time data from the Earthers!We could pull current metal pricing, or Earth news (via cnn RSS) or who knows what, its just an option.Yet another way that Flux is always evolving.

Actually, on the subject of ships and subs, we are working on an option for picking the type of boat, how big, and whether its a ship or sub, then calculating the materials needed, engine size, etc. A lot like crafting, but for ships, as some have expressed interest in building them that way, there will be time and effort involved to do that, of course, although most of the work is mine in building the hull estimator, and providing other such facilities for using the raw materials, and doing the actual calculations.The player wanting to build ships would get requests from others about how big, and would then produce it. I suppose anyone with high enough skills could build one themselves, but for many, its easier to buy, and let someone else do all that work.Also in the works is the ability to build an aircraft from the kit of parts in the hangar, pay some amount for the kit, then build it, and get a plane that way.

Minor issue - its fixed though.Things do happen on occasion, especially if I make a new change, until its shaken out. at least its only one object type at a time.I do put a fair amount of time into making sure things run smoothly, and I do see all tracebacks, and I get on them.Its just the nature of a changing place, to keep things exciting and different.

Crafting continues to be tweaked (as it is a rather new feature) and some other interesting surprises have been added. Working with some of the players always results in changes and insights. Some of the existing issues (as far as I know) are that people seem to be a bit confused on what to do as next steps, perhaps expecting to be led along from A to B to C. Also, things dont get *VERY* interesting until you have trained up, which does take time and effort. That part does seem painful and slow, but its really a rite of passage, and would lessen the efforts of existing players if changed.As always, I talk to to the players, and discuss many types of things, from existing features, to new potential areas or things to do, and how to make it fun and interesting for all, from the brand new player just logging on, to the person thats been there 6 to 12 months, and is still looking for things in the advanced core.This thread is as much general information to all, as it

labor in a production area does require some skills, so thats not for brand new players. I would say that the things new people can do for money are finding and picking up cash pouches if they can find them, or even trinkets that can be turned in. They can chase and capture one of the catchmes, they can complete a scavenger hunt. Rune Gathering is yet another way. All of these things are meant as incentive to encourage exploration and getting to know the areas.Mining is the hardest work there is, and doesnt pay particularly well, but it doesnt require any skills either. One other option available to brand new players, and is meant only for training, is getting a student loan. It does charge interest, and does expect to be paid back, but its an option.

Lol. From what I can tell, this is slowly proving to be interesting. Just one thing, forgive me for missing the stocks in the main area as I rushed off to level up. I guess I got so used to the area ruffly remaining the same that I just checked to see that I went where I thought I went. LOL. Most of the buildings are in enclosures, or are underground.Some of the faraway planets might have what you are looking for, and we can talk about transporting vehicles, but there is much to be done in the local system.Your shuttle, like any of the rest, can go farther than you think, as you will discover.There is both ship to ship communications, and a global system for talking, Although I dont point this out right right away, it is available. See me in game for details.Building for yourself is possible, but not just anywhere. Usually, someone should be buying, modifying and working with objects simpler than rooms and areas, to gather the needed experience with the various customizable messages that objects have, as rooms have many, many settings which are possible. This includes vehicles, as they are portable rooms, things like seating
 , details which can be looked at, and other features.As far as what to charge others, its like anything else: what the market will bear. One person may only be willing to pay a 100 for a short trip up a river, while another might be willing to pay far more, especially for some space destination. At some price point, a person would be more willing to learn how to operate a vehicle themself, than pay someone else. This is what the open market is all about, the prices are somewhat set by what people are willing to pay and receive, for goods and services. The rockets you mention are specifically for Space Transport of materials into space, and are not really made for people to travel in. Watching a launch, when they happen, is interesting though, and can be seen from many places at once.

I have been asked a few times, what is the goal of this game? Well, the goal is to enjoy and have a deeper understanding, but given that initial question, I began to ponder it a bit. Although Flux is not really a kind of place where you do x then y then z in some particular order, as there are so many things to do, that I did create a mission list of some basics. These dont pay, they just prove that you did some specific action somewhere.Some people do want to specialize in some aspect: mark in transportation, for example. I think he means transporting others, not materials, kind of a guide around the areas. lillia has expressed interest in selling things to others, and some want to get into energy production.Since I fully support an open commerce model, you have to ask yourself this one question: what can I either make or buy at SPAM, something that other people want or need? This can include such things as weapons, armor, clothing, jewelry, a custom food shop, 
 or information.The social aspect has barely been explored so far, and with that, people talking and finding out what others might want. It could be something like, show me the cool places to visit, or, how do I complete this quest (though it might cost you part of your reward for hints).This business aspect is in addition to the normal easy ways to make money directly, finding cash pouches, catching one of the catchmes, completing one of the scavenger hunts or Rune Gathering, or the Game of the day (GOTD).I guess the point I am making is you have plenty of things you can do, although a decent understanding of Flux is needed first, before you try more advanced things, to understand the flow of things, and thats usually half the fun, learning how things work, and why. Im sure people will come up with things that I havent considered, either because they have seen it on another MUD, or its just something they like to do. I do listen, and some features
  have been added as a direct result. Crafting was one of these.Final Note: it seems that once a player has seen about 500 to 600 unique rooms, they have seen enough (although still only 33 percent), to really have a feel for things. At this point, a player begins to understand Flux at some level. It is at this point, that people really seem to enjoy the deeper aspects of it all. I do still ponder ways to keeps things interesting for brand new players, in addition to keeping the intermediate and more advanced people guessing.Dont be intimidated by the size of the place. If it was small and easy, youd be bored in a few days and wander off. Flux was designed to keep you busy for years, a little bit at a time.

I am mark on this mud. I am planning on offering a transport service to get people from one place to another, but I currently dont have everything yet that I need to offer such a service. For example, I will need to know the area pretty well. My first thought wasnt really acting as guide, but it is clear that if I do act as a guide to newbies and the like, then I could in fact have a number of people of whom I could sell my services to later on in the game. I will clearly have to deside when to start charging and how much. I will not know that until I can see how the whole money systems of the game is structured. After all, it will not be werth my time to charge an amount that no one can pay nor a cost that is so low that I can not pay all cost involved. Oh how I would love to have a yot to take people around on, but I am not at that stage yet. LOL. Ashame right? I am at the point of what do I do next stage per say. I need to make sure that I have a good enough fluxbuc
 ks coming iin to pay for building up my stats and skills for now. So far, the first few quest has helped with that. I am trying to also get up enough to buy some of the different vehicles I want. It looks like I would need 1500 to cover the start up cost there. Some of what I am trying to figure out is, how do I transport a plane from one plannet to another? If I buy a sea going ship for the main flux world area, is it stuck on that plannet or do I go and load it up in to a space ship of some kind? Do I have to buy ships and planes for different plannets when I arived at those different plannets? When I buy my first space ship, will it beable to go farther than the shuddle crafts that I can use from the main spaceport we all start at? Is it safe to assume that we dont get comm units in this mud? Also, will each of us at some time have a chance to build an area in the mud, and if so, what is taken in to account when they are or are not given that chance? I have also seen so
 me rockets. What sortof make them different then the shuddles? LOL. Sorry for all the questions. I am just really getting started. I guess I should go grab myself a plane and go explore the areas I can fly to. LOL.

Hello all,I started playing the game a few weeks ago but I never got around to posting on here. This is actually one of the most interesting MUDs ive ever playd. It is quite unusual,, of course, since all the actions you can do are not presented to you in three or four help files when you log on for the first time, as many other muds do. To unlock the full potential of the game you actually do have to explore and look at everything you can. Like Centauri told me once, if theres an object, it usually means something. The fact that the description for an object might be uninteresting or that it doesnt have a help file doesnt mean it couldnt have an interesting bit to it. Again quoting Centauri, you can only get to about a third of the whole mud on foot. This is one of the very few muds in which exploration is truly the most rewarding activity if you look hard enough. Dont underestimate the world just because the main promenade area is only a
 bout 20 to 30 rooms. Train up your stats a bit, get to know the basic systems by walking everywhere you can and maybe even taking the maglev, and slowly start wandering further as you find out more ways to obtain money. Lately the game has been expanding a lot thanks to Centauris hard work. There is much more to the game that you can initially see. Of course, I will not spoil any of the stuff I found out, which is probably not much, as Im still in position 6 in the explorers top ten.I highly encourage anyone who sees this thread to join and see for themselves. it is hard to explain anything without spoiling even minor details which could ruin your experience. For those like me who are tired of todays MUDs (hacknslash or futuristic space-based), this is nothing like that. Its got a little bit of everything, and loads of other uniqeu things I have never seen on any other MUD. Also, the fact that the main admin takes the time to mentor every new player hel

The crypt typically gets many people. Part of the puzzle is figuring out what needs to be done there, using examine here will help.The actual trapping itself is not part of the crypt, but because the room the crypt is in, has security to not allow entering it except by valid exits, and out from inside the crypt is not one of them.That part of the puzzle is a kind of: you must go forward, because you cant go back sort of thing.

Due to player requests, and some study, crafting has been implemented for weapons, armor and clothing. Depending on skill, you can make things slightly better than the system generated defaults, but the real creativeness lies in the descriptions, especially for clothing. The other advantage is selling such things for money, rather than just creating them for yourself. As far as detail and gathering of materials, this is done already for metals and cloth, in other ways, and not directly a requirement of crafting just to obtain materials. There are interesting choices, of course. Do you make armor from a titanium alloy, kevlar, nano-poly, carbon fiber, leather, or one of the other available metals (like brass, copper, iron, etc)Clothing can be made from cotton, wool, denim, leather, flannel, polyester blend, nylon, rayon, etc. Any material can be made, we just need a request for it, and the time it takes to produce it.On another note, I have been asked many t
 imes, so what do I do next here? it seems some are confused by the fact that there is no set theme other than this is a futuristic space based world. The answer, of course, is there are many things to do, and that depends on what you like. There are many interesting things to do, but they all rely on a person exploring and finding the objects to interact with. I cant exactly say go to x and do y, as this would ruin the surprises that are Flux. As those who have taken the time to dig have found out, the deeper you dig, the more you realize how deep some things go into detail. The whole food processing, animal raising, and timber are a part of that. So is the fact that mining is only one step of many to produce exotic materials that are used elsewhere. But that is enough hints for now.

I earmarked this one back when Sterlock first mentioned it and decided to give it a more serious go today sinse I fancied dipping my toes in a new game.Well Ive been trying this one, and thanks to some kind words from centauri I got through a good few quests, though actually once I realized that a lot of the special directions are of the type go x I didnt find them too bad. Other activities I tried a scavenger hunt and have found one rune, I also briefly tried combat though dont have the stats, other things like mining, fishing, more exploring etc will likely wait, its really quite unique to see a mud that is so based on just wandering around and playing with what you find rather than being a hack n slash. Ill be interested to see what other activities occur to me. once I really get out into the world, sinse thus far Ive sort of confined my activities to the promenade and the caves involved in the first few
  quests.

Greetings. Im becoming a regular on fluxworld to. Fighting always pays good if youre willing to take the risk of fighting creatures higher in skill than you. Ive enjoyed fishing and exploring the underwater areas. Most of all, Ive enjoyed the afterlife. Although the afterlife rooms arent very big, just 1 or 2 rooms, from an rp prospective its fun to spend time there. No Lord Jehovah or Lord Lucifer yet unfortunately but hopefully theyll enter fluxworl soon. Havent gone into space yet but I will in time. Tried my hand at fishing and labor to. Havent tried growing things yet like beans and other vegetables but Ill try that in time. Right now, Im trying to find more ways to make money because I pay people a lot especially when they give me things I want or take me places I want to go. I heard that some of you were having trouble with money, so Ill just say that quests are a good source. Keep in mind that you dont always get notifyed that you get money. Make sure to check with either money or cash, both do the same thing. Also, most rewards are given in gold, which needs to be exchanged for fluxbucks at the bank. Syntax is exchange amount currency for currency. EG, exchange 500 gold for fluxbucks. Hope that helps.

Well, Im officially stuck between two rooms in the first quest and cant go anywhere. Im in some pool and it says something beckons deeper. Ive tried everything I can think of, but cant do anything but go back and forth between these two rooms. I thought this game seemed really interesting, but theres just not enough to go on. Ive wandered aimlessly, cant find any cash, and Im not sure what the goal is. But Im now stuck in this quest with no way to get out. The home command doesnt work. Any suggestions?

Ok, Im trying this now, and Im totally confused. I just dont know how to get started. I went into the newbie area, did a couple of simple training things, then got stuck in a room that just said you see nothing special. So, I bypassed it. Found an academy where I learned one lesson and then ran out of money, so not sure how to earn more. Found out where the quest room is, read about the first quest, but Im really lost. One of the best ways to make money starting out is to just explore around, pick up the cash pouches you see. As far as quests, go to the caves and look around the first room. Everything you need for that quest is in that room. Remember that exits are not restricted to directions, words can also be exits.
