I received the speakers yesterday night, and first thing I noticed is
build quality - considering I wasn't dealing with my $3K Revel
monitors, but rather with $350 supposedly toys - I was simply amazed.

There are a few small-footprint Class D integrateds like the Bel Canto
S300i which are pretty good.
In my small office system, I use a Squeezebox to drive a Zhaolu D2.0
DAC (from Hong Kong), then the Bel Canto Pre3/S300 to drive a pair of
Focus Audio FS-68SE.
(disclaimer: I'm a dealer for both
I currently run an SB3 into the Bel Canto S300i out to a pair of BW
705's in my home office setup and am very pleased with the quality of
sound. I must note that the office is fairly small and I did add some
acoustic panels in key spots to help.

For exactly the same objective (small system for bedroom) I have ordered
the Audioengine 5 speakers that were repeatedly recommended in another
thread. I am very curious about the sound one can achieve with active
speakers these days, and beyond that I want to research an audiophile
system setup
are any of the active speakers using the icepower modules?

active speakers marketed as kewl iPod speakers
There are powered monitors made for every price point. Like any speaker,
they're all different. If you're in or near a large city you might be
able to find a pro audio shop that has a variety. If possible find
Genelecs' line of powered monitors, the JBL LSR series, and Blue Sky.

In my home office system I have SB3 analog to an Arcam A32 Integrated
and Monitor Audio Silver S6 speakers and I think it sounds pretty
sweet. I got the Arcam for $1200 used on Audiogon and the MA's were
demos from a local dealer for $750. I have had a lot of luck with used

office or bedroom. I want it to cost as little as possible, but not
less - it's got to keep audiophile-standard. :)
I see it as little DAC, integrated amp, and good cost effective
