Ignore me and the dates. I pointed out the baptism date for some silly
reason. Bill sent in the correction. Thanks, Bill.

Cory G,
The child's parents are Manuel de Souza and Antonia de Medeiros. I can't
read the date because it starts on the previous page. It's much easier to
post the link/URL from the CCA so we can compare the writing to the other
pages if the need arises.

That one is pretty clear. What do you need help reading? You didn't say.
You can find a word list, paleography, and what to expect in a record on
the Azores Genweb here.

Patricia S,
Good luck! By searching all the siblings, you got the mother's full name,
increased your reading ability, and found out that priests sometimes have
too much vinho at a baptism!

Thanks Cheri,
I did as you suggested and looked for siblings. As it turns out, it appears
that Manuel b. 1852 was the youngest child in the family. He had an older
brother, Manuel b. 1842, plus two sisters named Rosa and brothers Antonio
and Francisco. Now I'll have to look in Obitos for the fir
Patricia S,
Good job translating! Now for your questions.
1. Are the names of the maternal grandparents missing? I can't find them.
Why would this be?
Yes, the names of the maternal grandparents are missing. Maybe the priest
had too much vinho. :)
2. Were the godparents literal children or w
According to his marriage record, Manuel Amaral, age 26, native of this
parish, son of Manuel Amaral and Maria Rosa, married Maria Rosa Francisca,
11 Nov 1878 in Nossa Senhora do Amparo, Algarvia, Nordeste, Sao Miguel.
Searching the records for 1852 there was only one person who seemed to fit.
I need help with names of the freguesias that the parents are from in this
record.
Here is what I have:
Lourenco Henriques native of freguesia Nossa Senhora ??? of villa ???
Francisca Rosa ??? Ribeira Grande

Hi Margaret,
Thanks, for the translation. It seems interesting that the godfather was
the holy spirit. I don't think I have seen that before.
Also, his full name does list Coelho as his last name from his marriage
record, but not his baptismal record.
Does anyone know how common it is to lis
