OH, just found out that this was due to a run in which the catalog was not mounted. Sorry for the confusion but I haven't realised that till now. But on the other hand the problem may be caused by wrong authorisation for user bacula to the bacula database. I can only access the database with user root NOT bacula. -- Erik P. OK, I tried your suggestion and got: [erik@Erik-PC ~]$ pgrep -lf bacula-dir 4226 bacula-dir [erik@Erik-PC ~]$ netstat -an |grep LISTEN|grep 910 tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:91020.0.0.0:* LISTEN tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:91030.0.0.0:* LISTEN I suppose this is correct. Regarding tcpdump I have no idea how to use it. I have never had the need to use this tool before so I have no result from it. systemctl status for mariadb.service, bacula-dir.service, bacula-fd.service and bacula-sd.service show all services running correctly. Oddly my old desktop which is at the same level as my laptop is running the same software and does indeed do backups flawlessly. Diagnosing bacula has become a nightmare :-( -- Erik P. [Bacula-users] Issue with tray-monitor of 9.0.6.
Tried to run tray-monitor with my newly installed bacula 9.0.6, but it ran into an error with the following textbox: Error parse_conf.c:1104 Keyword "Password" not permitted in this resource. Perhaps you left the trailing brace off of the previous resource. Debug -d 100) produced the following output: [erik@Erik-PC bacula]$ bacula-tray-monitor -c tray-monitor.conf -d100 "sni-qt/9588" WARN 19:32:06.939 void StatusNotifierItemFactory::connectToSnw() Invalid interface to SNW_SERVICE tray-monitor: tray-monitor.cpp:282-0 configfile=tray-monitor.conf tray-monitor: tray-monitor.cpp:135-0 reload the configuration! And at last a dialogue poped up apparently with the purpose to run a configuration of the tray-monitor. AFAIKT this dialogue is not described in the bacula manuals. The config file is the same as used on version 7.4.7 which did not cause any problem. [Bacula-users] Issue upgrading to 9.0.6 from 7.4.7
My installation is the following: Fedora 27 fully upgraded mariadb-10.2.13-2.fc27.x86_64 bacula-director-9.0.6-2.fc27.x86_64 I've just upgraded Fedora from 26 to 27 which also did an upgrade of bacula from 7.4.7 to 9.0.6 and therefore I ran update_bacula_tables with success, so everything should be OK. However, when I attempted a backup I got "ERR=Field 'StartTime' doesn't have a default value". I have been warned that such error might occur and did the following afterwards to try to correct the database: 1. Stopped bacula 2. dropped the database 3. created the database 4. imported the catalogue from the last backup 5. updated the tables 6. started bacula Did again a backup but the error was still there. I think it should be possible to add a default value to the 'StartTime' field but since I no nothing about sql programming I am unable to fix it. I hope someone on the list would tell me which commands would do the trick. -- Thanks in advance. [Bacula-users] How to upgrade to 9.0.6 from 7.4.7
I am running fedora 26 with bacula-7.4.7 and if I upgrade to fedora 27 bacula will be upgraded to 9.0.6. I understand that the database structure is changed so that I need to run an upgrade script to the old database. Is there anything else that needs to be changed? For example to the various .conf files? I am asking because I want to do the upgrade with as few changes as possible. Any refinements and use of new features could then be introduced at a later stage. -- Thanks in advance Erik -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot ___ Bacula-users mailing list Bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/bacula-users

Hello everybody, I would like to express my gratitude to all you nice guys who so patiently have provided many good advice. I really do appreciate your effort. However, no matter have good these advice were I have not been able to get bacula going on this system. I do believe that I have issued all necessary commands and scripts more than once and that they should work. The problem lies probably in either mariadb or the database files which probably are corrupt. I have not given up but I will concentrate on getting mariadb correctly installed and see if this approach will be profitable. -- Erik -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot ___ Bacula-users mailing list Bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/bacula-users

[Bacula-users] Can't run bacula any more.
I have retired my old desktop and moved my programmes including bacula to my laptop. Since I have been running bacula successfully for many years I thought it would be piece of cake to install bacula on this other box. But it turned out not to be so. I am running linux with fedora 25 on both machines, and I've tried to keep the new installation as close as possible to the old. Bacula is installed from the dnf repository on both machines and is version 7.4.5-1. I am aware that the bacula files from fedora's repository are "infected" with postgresql, so I have changed them to default to mysql. [Bacula-users] Building bat.
I have a correctly working bacula version 7.4.4 which I installed from the fedora 24 repository. Bat, however, does not work properly since it fails restoring files. I have issued a bug report to fedora's bugzilla to no avail. I should like to build bat separately without having to build the rest of bacula.
