Thanks Wolfgang,

The problem faded away after a couple of hours. Apparently it was some
left-over from a
total restore job performed the day before. Everything is OK now. It looks like
I'll have
to wait 2-3 hours if it happens again. I was not prepared for that.

I'll take your advice and look into migrating to postgresql.

[Bacula-users] Issue with newly installed 11.0.3

I have just installed bacula 11.0.3 from fedora's repo and now my usual backups

failing with: Fatal error: Cannot find previous jobids.

It looks like a catalogue failure or an error when accessing the catalogue. Is
there

After a number of failing attempts I finally found the solution in the
following series
of commands (all run as root):

systemctl stop mysql.service
systemctl stop bacula-dir.service
systemctl stop bacula-fd.service
systemctl stop bacula-sd.service
dnf upgrade bacula-*
alternatives --set libbaccats.so /usr/lib64/libbaccats-mysql.so
systemctl enable mysql.service
systemctl start mysql.service
cd /usr/libexec/bacula
./update_bacula_tables mysql
systemctl enable bacula-dir.service
systemctl enable bacula-fd.service
systemctl enable bacula-sd.service
systemctl start bacula-dir.service
systemctl start bacula-fd.service
systemctl start bacula-sd.service

And now bacula 11.0.2 ran without any problem. the update_bacula_tables mysql
took about
15 minutes.

[Bacula-users] Unable to upgrade to bacula 11.0.2.

2021-04-30 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I have originally installed bacula 9.6.5 using the fedora repository, so I did
an
ordinary upgrade using dnf upgrade. The upgrade ran without any indication of
failure but
bacula turned out to be broken. I must add to the info that I am running mysql
in the
flavour of mariadb. Mysql was up and running and so was bacula-fd and bacula-sd
but
bacula-dir didn't start. I thought I had to upgrade the catalogue, so I ran the
script
update_bacula_tables but it failed:

Is this a packaging error that should be reported to fedora or have I
misunderstood
something?

I have now downgraded bacula 11.0.2 to version 9.6.5 and now bacula runs
flawlessly as
usual and since I don't need the new version that much I can use the system as
is without
problems but of course I'll like to have bacula upgraded for safety reasons.

OK, so I went ahead to update bacula from 9.6.5 to 11.0.2 and now my bacula

Just to be sure you advise to delete them from the pool first and thereafter

I have 3 files marked error which also exist on the physical volume and I have
3 other
files also marked error but which do not exist on the volume.

Is it safe to remove the ones for which there is no corresponding file on the
volume and
then perhaps just marked the remaining 3 used?

I don't like to have errors on the catalogue.

My setup is two systems. One is running Windows 10 and the other Fedora 32,

no problems doing backups and restores but when I run bacula-tray-monitor I can
only
monitor Linux client. The bacula-tray-monitor.conf is rather simple and I cant
see that I
should be missing anything. The config file is as follows:

Monitor {
  Name = epo-mon
  RefreshInterval = 5 seconds
}

Client {
  Name = ullapc-fd
  Address = Ulla-PC.epolan.dk
  Password = "76nCDXqlMZ/mU7LkMqfwyr4eKGB1ln1OgKtPpoZt5mxN"
}

Client {
  Name = erikpc-fd

  Password = "76nCDXqlMZ/mU7LkMqfwyr4eKGB1ln1OgKtPpoZt5mxN"
}

Storage {
  Name = erikpc-sd
  Address = Erik-PC.epolan.dk
}

Director {
  Name = epo-dir
  address = Erik-PC.epolan.dk
  Password = "xGQd+b22P5rzX9espVGUetBjOrX8czfvzRqQ1cEwz0FT"
}

ullapc-fd is the remote Windows 10 client and erikpc-fd the combined linux
client and
server. ullapc-fd is the client that can't be monitored.

Any thoughts?

Problem was incorrect dir.conf. I had created to restore jobs in the dir.conf
for two
different computers and it turned out that bacula picked wrong client IDs and
the
restores either hang og exit with error. Removed one of the restores and am now

[Bacula-users] Baculum installation issue.

2020-02-26 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I've decided to install baculum but the installation description points at
<http://bacula.us/compilation> as the first step and this page cannot be found.

How do I start installing baculum.

[Bacula-users] How to restore using BAT?

2019-12-19 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I have been unable to restore files using BAT but using bconsole I have no
problem
restoring.

The problem occurs when I have marked some files and pressed GO. The BAT window
shows
which files have been selected (marked) to be restored and then nothing else
happens. I
assume I'll have to issue some sort of command but which one? Or is my BAT
incorrectly
build?

I am using bacula 9.4.4 installed from fedora 30 repository.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on what might be wrong.

Re: [Bacula-users] bsockcore issue. (SOLVED)

2019-12-18 Thread Erik P. Olsen
It turned out NOT to be a bsockcore issue but rather an issue with
grant_mysql_privileges
launched on a bacula database created by mariadb.

Adding: dbname = "bacula"; dbuser = "root"; dbpassword = ""
to the Catalog directive made bconsole and bat killed the issue. I wonder why
this has
happened but I run safely with this change and leave it up to someone with
knowledge
about sql commands to sort the issue with grant_mysql_privileges.

Re: [Bacula-users] bsockcore issue.

2019-12-17 Thread Erik P. Olsen
Mojn Alf,

[root@Erik-PC ~]# grep dbname /etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf
  dbname = "bacula"; dbuser = "bacula"; dbpassword = ""

As f as I know this is the way it should be but see what I get:

[root@Erik-PC ~]# mysql --user bacula -p bacula
Enter password:
ERROR 1044 (42000): Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'bacula'

However:

[root@Erik-PC ~]# mysql --user root -p bacula
Enter password:
Reading table information for completion of table and column names
You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A

I tend to believe that grant_mysql_privileges is failing to grant user bacula
the
required authorisation. I wonder if it is possible to repair this situation but
I know
nothing about how to do that with sql commands.

Re: [Bacula-users] bsockcore issue.

2019-12-16 Thread Erik P. Olsen
OH, just found out that this was due to a run in which the catalog was not
mounted. Sorry
for the confusion but I haven't realised that till now. But on the other hand
the problem
may be caused by wrong authorisation for user bacula to the bacula database. I
can only
access the database with user root NOT bacula.

Thanks, that could very well be it:

[erik@Erik-PC ~]$ mysql bacula -u bacula -p

[erik@Erik-PC ~]$

But then:

[erik@Erik-PC ~]$ mysql bacula -u root -p
Enter password:
Reading table information for completion of table and column names
You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A

Re: [Bacula-users] bsockcore issue.

2019-12-14 Thread Erik P. Olsen
OK, I tried your suggestion and got:

[erik@Erik-PC ~]$ pgrep -lf bacula-dir
4226 bacula-dir

[erik@Erik-PC ~]$ netstat -an |grep LISTEN|grep 910
tcp0  0 0.0.0.0:91020.0.0.0:*   LISTEN
tcp0  0 0.0.0.0:91030.0.0.0:*   LISTEN

I suppose this is correct. Regarding tcpdump I have no idea how to use it. I
have never
had the need to use this tool before so I have no result from it.

systemctl status for mariadb.service, bacula-dir.service, bacula-fd.service and
bacula-sd.service show all services running correctly. Oddly my old desktop
which is at
the same level as my laptop is running the same software and does indeed do
backups
flawlessly. Diagnosing bacula has become a nightmare :-(

2019-12-07 Thread Erik P. Olsen
Further to this issue. I looked into /var/log/messages and see when bacula-dir
is started:

Dec  7 11:04:00 Erik-PC audit[1]: SERVICE_STOP pid=1 uid=0 auid=4294967295
ses=4294967295 msg='unit=bacula-dir comm="systemd"

Dec  7 11:04:00 Erik-PC bacula-dir[1196]: Database=bacula User=bacula
Dec 7 11:04:00 Erik-PC bacula-dir[1196]: MySQL connect failed either server
not running or your authorization is incorrect.

TERMINATION
Dec  7 11:04:00 Erik-PC bacula-dir[1196]: Please correct configuration file:
/etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf

I suppose this is what's causing the bsockcore error later in the process but I
fail to
see what is wrong with bacula-dir. If the problem is file permissions how can I
see what
they should be? A pointer to where this is documented is highly appreciated.

[Bacula-users] bsockcore issue.

2019-12-05 Thread Erik P. Olsen
Running bconsole I get the following error messages:

bconsole: bsockcore.c:383-0 Could not connect to server Director daemon
192.168.1.45:9101. ERR=Opkobling nægtet
bconsole: bsockcore.c:196-0 Unable to connect to Director daemon on
192.168.1.45:9101. ERR=Opkobling nægtet

Error message in English says Connection denied.

What can cause this error? Is there better way to diagnose what's going on?
It is a one box system created to test 9.4.4. Any thoughts?

It has turned out to be a hidden unsupported untexted option that appears when
you
right-click on the menubar. Two check boxes appear one of which is prechecked
and cannot
be unchecked, but when the other is checked the taskbar appears and disappears
when
unchecked.

Is this a feature that has been forgotten by the programmers and has been left
halfcoded?

In the manual on page 16 (pdf version) a configuration overview is shown. Right
below
the figure there is an unresolved reference to a more detailed description.
Where is this
description to be found?

Also a $HOME/.bacula-tray-monitor.conf should be found. I don't have this file

realise that it may be due to a packaging error by fedora, but is it possible
to find
this file elsewhere, perhaps on the internet?

My resource looks as follows:

Job {
  Name = "RestoreEpohost"
  Type = Restore
  Accurate = yes
  Client=epohost-fd
  FileSet="Full Set"
  Storage = FileStorage
  Pool = Files
  Messages = Standard
  Where = /backupdev/bacula-restores/epohost
}

What I am missing from your resource is basicly the bootstrap line but looking
in the
main manual this should not be needed. Next thing missing is the Schedule line
but I
doubt this is critical again it is not in the manual example.

[Bacula-users] Unable to restore files using BAT.

2018-03-20 Thread Erik P. Olsen
OS: Fedora 27
BAT: bacula 9.0.6

When attempting to restore a set of files using BAT I get a correct build of
files and
the process comes to the point where BAT states (twice!) the number of selected
files.
Then nothing happens. I assume it expects some command to actually run the
restore but
which command? No matter what command I issue it says invalid.

How should I proceed from there? Or is there a way to get some sort of debug
list to
document the failure?

[Bacula-users] Issue with tray-monitor of 9.0.6.

2018-03-18 Thread Erik P. Olsen
Tried to run tray-monitor with my newly installed bacula 9.0.6, but it ran into
an error
with the following textbox:

Error parse_conf.c:1104 Keyword "Password" not permitted in this resource.
Perhaps you left the trailing brace off of the previous resource.

Debug -d 100) produced the following output:

[erik@Erik-PC bacula]$ bacula-tray-monitor -c tray-monitor.conf -d100
"sni-qt/9588" WARN  19:32:06.939 void StatusNotifierItemFactory::connectToSnw()
Invalid interface to SNW_SERVICE
tray-monitor: tray-monitor.cpp:282-0 configfile=tray-monitor.conf
tray-monitor: tray-monitor.cpp:135-0 reload the configuration!

And at last a dialogue poped up apparently with the purpose to run a
configuration of the tray-monitor. AFAIKT this dialogue is not described in the
bacula manuals.

The config file is the same as used on version 7.4.7 which did not cause any
problem.

Can someone perhaps explain what's wrong?

Thanks a lot, that did it! I added the statement to my.cnf assuming it will
stick
forever. I didn't check sql_mode because I don't know how to do it. But I
suppose it
doesn't matter now that bacula works as a dream :-)

[Bacula-users] Issue upgrading to 9.0.6 from 7.4.7

2018-03-18 Thread Erik P. Olsen
My installation is the following:

Fedora 27 fully upgraded
mariadb-10.2.13-2.fc27.x86_64
bacula-director-9.0.6-2.fc27.x86_64

I've just upgraded Fedora from 26 to 27 which also did an upgrade of bacula
from 7.4.7 to
9.0.6 and therefore I ran update_bacula_tables with success, so everything
should be OK.

However, when I attempted a backup I got "ERR=Field 'StartTime' doesn't have a
default
value". I have been warned that such error might occur and did the following
afterwards
to try to correct the database:

1. Stopped bacula
2. dropped the database
3. created the database
4. imported the catalogue from the last backup
5. updated the tables
6. started bacula

Did again a backup but the error was still there. I think it should be possible
to add a
default value to the 'StartTime' field but since I no nothing about sql
programming I am
unable to fix it. I hope someone on the list would tell me which commands would
do the
trick.

[Bacula-users] How to upgrade to 9.0.6 from 7.4.7

2018-01-27 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I am running fedora 26 with bacula-7.4.7 and if I upgrade to fedora 27 bacula
will be upgraded to 9.0.6. I understand that the database structure is changed
so that I need to run an upgrade script to the old database. Is there anything
else that needs to be changed? For example to the various .conf files?

I am asking because I want to do the upgrade with as few changes as possible.
Any refinements and use of new features could then be introduced at a later
stage.

Sounds good. I've installed boss-report.pl, ran it afterwards and it
created after a short while the xls report - but alas - libreoffice
wouldn't display it, so unless some other spreadsheet program on linux
will display it it is totally useless.

Hello everybody,

I would like to express my gratitude to all you nice guys who so patiently have
provided many good
advice. I really do appreciate your effort. However, no matter have good these
advice were I have
not been able to get bacula going on this system. I do believe that I have
issued all necessary
commands and scripts more than once and that they should work. The problem lies
probably in either
mariadb or the database files which probably are corrupt.

I have not given up but I will concentrate on getting mariadb correctly
installed and see if this
approach will be profitable.

[erik@Erik-PC ~]$ mysql bacula --user=bacula

In my script the lines are:

use mysql
grant all privileges on ${db_name}.* to ${db_user}@localhost ${pass}
${ssl_options};
grant all privileges on ${db_name}.* to ${db_user}@"%" ${pass} ${ssl_options};
select * from user;
flush privileges;

Ups, I now see that a semicolon is missing after "use mysql".
I'll add it and rerun the script:
Oh it won't let me do the "use mysql;" Access denied.

These are the first few lines:

[root@Erik-PC bacula]# ./grant_mysql_privileges
Created MySQL database user: bacula
ERROR 1133 (28000) at line 2: Can't find any matching row in the user table
HostUserPasswordSelect_priv

And this is the last:

Privileges for user bacula granted on database bacula.

Did a check of my running bacula system and it had exactly the same
messages - without failing. So this has nothing to do with the failing
system.

Yes. The big thing is how to fix it. I have reinstall mariadb, dropped
the database and reran the scripts from /usr/libexec/bacula to no avail.
Last efford will be to remove mariadb and install mysqld instead.

mysql -u bacula

gave:

So apparently the scripts did not create the bacula database. I'll have
to see why that happened.

If I add -d1000 to the bconsole command I get a few more trace lines
which show that bconsole does connect to the director daemon. For
example it reads the director password from the daemon and later issues
the misleading message about not being able to connect. Apparently it
refuses the connection because the director is unable to access the
database. That leads to the second problem you mentioned. I'll look
into that and get back with what I find.

I appreciate the information you gave because I know next to
nothing about sql databases.

Hello Kern,

I've read the manual numerous times and followed the instructions again
and again.

works OK, so I assume everything is OK with the database and the access
privileges. There seems nothing I can do other than continue taking
backups from my old desktop which for other reasons is not advisable.

bconsole: bsock.c:203-0 Current 192.168.1.36:9101 All 192.168.1.36:9101
bconsole: bsock.c:278-0 Could not connect to server Director daemon
 192.168.1.36:9101. ERR=Connection refused

bacula-dir, bacula-fd, bacula-sd and bconsole are all installed on the
same system and firewall is set to open ports 9101-9103 for all
including mysqld.

What's so strange is that this system on my new laptop is a clone of my
desktop on which I have no problem running bacula. Only difference is
the IP-address of the director. I currently can't see any way to get
bacula to work on the new machine. And there is no help from the
manuals. Too bad.

No, I don't have /etc/bacula/setup on my system. I used the scripts
in /usr/libexec/bacula but maybe in a wrong sequence because I had to
redo some of them.

Thanks Simone,

I'll look into all your advice as soon as possible. I've gone back to
do backups with my old retired machine since I can't be without backups
too long, so I'll wait till the coming weekend to work again on the
problem.

And I'll not touch my selinux setup. If a programme doesn't work with
selinux it won't be installed on my system.

Thanks Josip,

1. ldd /usr/sbin/bacula-dir|grep libmysql
libmysqlclient.so.18 => /usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.18
(0x7fa905d81000)

2. The symlink points correctly which it didn't in my first shots :-)

I don't think there is any dbpassword. I tried to copy as much as

It's definitely not a selinux problem.

I have tried again. Dropped the tables and made (make) them again just
to be sure there is nothing incorrect in the tables. Testing bacula-dir
gave this time:

I noticed "Access denied for user ''@'localhost' ...". Where does this
user come from? Isn't that the reason for the failures and if it's
true what can I do to correct it? Also "Initaddr 0.0.0.0:9101" looked
strange.

Thanks for your advice which I tried both with and without arguments
and it apparently connected correctly - at least I got a welcome

Hello Kern,

I have main.pdf downloaded and I believe I have followed the various
steps in phase II to the letter. I have come to the point where I need
some tools to diagnose what is wrong. I am pretty sure that the problem
is due to some sort of security settings in the mysql database but I
am not able to see what that could and the manual has not been to any
help in that respect

That's interesting. I assume you mean DirAddress, FDAddress and
SDAddress. I don't specify them since the manual says they are optional
and I haven't had any problem so far by omitting them. Do you mean to
say that they are now mandatory? Or are you referring to something else?

[Bacula-users] Can't run bacula any more.

2017-03-05 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I have retired my old desktop and moved my programmes including bacula
to my laptop. Since I have been running bacula successfully for many
years I thought it would be piece of cake to install bacula on this
other box. But it turned out not to be so.

I am running linux with fedora 25 on both machines, and I've tried to
keep the new installation as close as possible to the old.

Bacula is installed from the dnf repository on both machines and is
version 7.4.5-1. I am aware that the bacula files from fedora's
repository are "infected" with postgresql, so I have changed them to
default to mysql. To the problem:

bacula-dir, bacula-fd and bacula-sd start correctly but testing the
directory yields:

[root@Erik-PC bacula]# bacula-dir -t -d10 -c bacula-dir.conf
bacula-dir: dird.c:208-0 Debug level = 10
bacula-dir: dird_conf.c:1958-0 runscript cmd=prune expired volume yes type=@
bacula-dir: dird_conf.c:1958-0 runscript
cmd=/usr/libexec/bacula/make_catalog_backup.pl MyCatalog type=|
bacula-dir: dird_conf.c:1958-0 runscript cmd=truncate storage=FileStorage
pool=Files type=@
bacula-dir: dird_conf.c:1958-0 runscript cmd=truncate storage=CatalogueStorage
pool=Catalogues type=@
bacula-dir: dird_conf.c:1958-0 runscript
cmd=/usr/libexec/bacula/delete_catalogue_backup type=|
bacula-dir: dird.c:969-0 Could not open Catalog "MyCatalog", database "bacula".
bacula-dir: dird.c:974-0 mysql.c:265 Unable to connect to MySQL server.
Database=bacula User=bacula
MySQL connect failed either server not running or your authorization is
incorrect.
05-mar 11:58 bacula-dir ERROR TERMINATION
Please correct configuration file: bacula-dir.conf
[root@Erik-PC bacula]#

I don't see this on the old machine which works flawlessly.

I do hope someone will be able to pinpoint what the problem is or
perhaps give me a clue on how to diagnose it.

Thanks in advance,

[Bacula-users] Building bat.

2016-10-31 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I have a correctly working bacula version 7.4.4 which I installed from
the fedora 24 repository. Bat, however, does not work properly since it
fails restoring files. I have issued a bug report to fedora's bugzilla
to no avail. I should like to build bat separately without having to
build the rest of bacula. Is that possible?

[Bacula-users] Bacula has stopped taking backups

2016-08-09 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I run linux (fedora 23) with bacula 7.4.3 and have suddenly today run
into a problem with taking backups of two wireless clients, one linux
and one windows 10.

Error message: bsock.c:107 Could not connect to Client: erikpc-fd on
Erik-PC.epolan.dk:9102. ERR=No route to host

Running bconsole with debug output gets: console.c:328 Got poll BNET_EOD

Any idea what the problem could be?

I have reported this bug to the fedora bugzilla (#1182722) Jan. 2016
because I use bacula from the fedora repository and it was at some time
suggested by Kern to be a packaging problem. I install this morning
bacula 7.4.2 just to find that the bug was not fixed in this release.

If it is that difficult for the packager to fix it I hope someone from
the bacula team would help him.

[Bacula-users] Tray monitor issue.

2016-05-24 Thread Erik P. Olsen
I run bacula 7.4.0 on linux distro fedora 23 and when I run the tray
monitor I experience - besides it being extreemely slow - that it
displays in the bottom of the window: 1999 Authentication failed. It
apparently does not affect the process, tray monitor runs to completion
without any other failures.

What's going on? All credentials are apparently OK.

More info:

Tried bconsole and it does restore correctly so I assume it's a bug
with BAT. Tried again with BAT to no avail. The first error message in
messages.log is:
