Nobody criticizes you. We are helping the project by maintaining packages of
latest versions which includes bug fixes and features not availabe in first
major release.

True. But I guess we agree that this is a pretty unusual policy.
I can't remeber any other project doing it this way.

I did not mean to criticize you. I just tried to explain where the

Please read precisely.

"Initial major releases are available on download.bareos.org"

Also, the first sentence on download.bareos.org says:

"We publish binaries for the first version of each major release"

So we provide packages to the community for our major releases.

Right, MAINTENANCE packges are only available to subscription customers, but we
do provide packages
for our major releases on a yearly basis.

This is the way that we provide packages since bareos exists, so we did not
change anything there
and it is not correct that we "stopped" providing packages for the community.

It would be nice if people would show the same dedication in helping the
project as they do in
criticizing that there is something that they do not get for free.

Probably from your own web site?

[1] reads:

Maintenance releases are, as source code, available to
everyone. However, as packages (from a repository), they are
only available to subscription customers on
download.bareos.com.

So if packages are only available to subscription customers, this
obviously means that they are not available to community users.

Or am I missing something?

2017-06-19 Thread Daniel Tombeil
Hello,

I realized my testcase using the bareos packages provided by Debian 9 Repos.
They are quite current and work fine. Also it was easy to build backported
packages for Jessie based on the Stretch sources using one existing Jessie
backport. So I can use great features like "client initiated connections" also
on older Jessie nodes. But have a shiny new backup server with Debian 9 and its
full security support span.

[bareos-users] It is not possible to install "Bareos" in the latest version of Debian 9 (Stretch)

2017-06-19 Thread Ian Malo
With the latest version available I get many problems, such as the following:

apt-get install bareos bareos-database-mysql
Leyendo lista de paquetes... Hecho
Creando árbol de dependencias
Leyendo la información de estado... Hecho

instalado
  Depende: bareos-client (= 16.2.4-12.1) pero 16.2.4-3 va a ser
instalado
 bareos-database-mysql : Depende: libmysqlclient18 (>= 5.5.24+dfsg-1) pero no
es instalable
E: No se pudieron corregir los problemas, usted ha retenido paquetes rotos.
